Be prepared to take a seat. Your kid will have a field day running around this massive playground. The water works are not running (water fountain included) and keep an eye out for sticks and large rocks the bigger kids like to toss them around. Also, beware of the swing set. As soon as we walked in a little girl about 1 was knocked down. And then 3 more in the 2 hours we were there. This place has maybe 6 basketball hoops and 3 or 4 tennis nets. Great place for a picnic or just to tire out the kids. Parking available is a mega plus.
Cool park in a great location. I love walking/running the track, but there is an outdoor basketball court. There is also a pretty big swimming pool, a decent sized gym and different classes inside the center.
Wonderful park and rec center in the neighborhood, good splash pad and playground equipment for ages 4-10. Nice tennis courts, indoor pool and gym facilities. Walking track and plenty of space!
I have not had a chance to use the recreation part of the Aquatic Center but it certainly looks nice if they have everything there and it seems to be so well kept up one day maybe I will be able to do something they are other than swim because it most definitely is inviting..WARNING: Please dont wear a nice swimsuit to the pool. The chlorine in this particular facility will RUIN it on the first day.Others have complained but nothing has been done about it.If you call DPR they wont help you either. It is your fault, yeah they tell you they get these complaints all the time.
Awesome playground for kids! Tennis courts were busy.
The pool is very nice. The track course is well kept. Usually clean and a great place to vote but try to vote early. Employees are usually very friendly. I have not been to the fitness room in awhile but not good. That may have changed. Good luck!
It was wonderful to see my gran interact with other children. The playground was nice and clean. However no sprinklers were on for the children. Overall we had a great time.
Great location. Even better during the election, staff was exellent..
Spray park, indoor pool and very fun playground. Issues with the pool closing when it gets too hot/humid.
Great space to walk and run, play basketball. Tonight the 0arks department had an outdoor movie set up.
Surprisingly few turkeys or thickets but an absolutely lovely park
It’s a wonderful playground it’s provides fun all year long . It’s in the same place as the community center and indoor pool in Brookland DC . Has a huge area for entertainment. Tennis court and community garden.Spray park in the summertime . I had enjoyed this place with my kids and every time we like it more. Beautiful . I wish that the vandalism would end it’s a incredible space unfortunately not everyone respect it. I have found a lot garbage and graffiti.
Breast Cancer Balloon Release was an excellent event to attend.
The Rec Center was nice. The people who work there were very friendly. I was impressed with the pool, although the water temp was cold. The hot tub however was perfect. The pool environment was clean and well lit. I enjoyed it. My only concerns, how often do they clean the locker room floors and shower. With all the diseases these days, those areas need to be mopped several times a day to control foot fungus. Also, I noticed early stages of mold growth on the shower walls. In the pool, the perimeter drain area for the skimmer and near the steps are dirty. Need cleaning. Other than that, I will go back again next week. Sometimes, its the simple things that help prevent illness.
My experience with the recreation center is currently limited to the pool where my son goes for swimming lessons, but it has almost completely blown away my expectations. This center is clean and well-staffed with mostly friendly workers that almost always pleasantly greet us when we come in. The temperature inside is the opposite of whatever it is outside, meaning that it’s comfortable. The whole place reeks of chlorine, though, because of the very large indoor pool. The pool itself is big, clean, and safe with a number of lifeguards that are watching from their perch and others in an office close by. They all have been very attentive, never straying from their mission. There is a wonderful kiddie pool section with a spray tree so the tots can have some fun, and the entrance to this pool is a slight slope that allows kids to get in at their own pace. Within this area is the spa, which is often used and seems to be pleasant. The kiddie pool feeds into the larger pool through a narrow channel with the depth slowly increasing, giving parents and kids the option of how deep they’d like to go. There is only a couple of feet of water in the kids area, and the channel to the bigger pool area goes to 4 feet before you’re free and out in the main pool. The lane lines are tight and properly maintained, keeping swimmers from drifting too far and hitting others or moving into shallower waters. The pool is heavily chlorinated like all public pools, and the pool enclosure is very warm and humid. The pool is not hot, and my little son is chilly when he’s done with his lessons. You’ll sweat if you’re sitting out of the pool in anything more than a t-shirt and light pants. There is a very loud hum present, making it hard to talk to others around you.The locker rooms are large and clean, with nice showers to help you rinse off all of the chlorine. In addition to the swimming pool there is also a large basketball court area with clean floors, a small gym with well-kept equipment, a billiards table in the lobby, and other rooms that I have yet to explore. There’s also tennis courts outside. This is a really nice community center that you should definitely visit if you live nearby or have thought about coming!
The pool temperature is set @ a reasonable temperature most of the time not freezing . The hot tub is comfortably hot . Kept clean. The showers in the Ladies locker room need to be cleaned more frequently. The recreation center has been very beneficial to my present health issues. Its affordable,Its FREE $0 Great hrs.
Native. Ive been going to Turkey Thicket my whole life
Always great people and looks nice when I go take my children there.
Friendly, low key, accepting. Feels like family...as Ive found with many DC rec centers.Modest gym: clean, bring your own mat if you need one. Rarely busy; ALWAYS kind and friendly.Pool: 4 lap lanes, 25 yds. Rarely busy during weekdays. Plus huge space for exercises etc. And a super hot tub.
This is my neighborhood and the rec is great, community-oriented and comfortable. I like to see people that look like me in a neighborhood that has drastically changed over just a few years. It’s nice to see the children and the programming they have for the children after school. The rec is the only part of this area that hasn’t been gentrified.
Nice pleasant place to walk when families dont bring their children out to ride bicycles by you knowing that the area is small barely enough room for three people to walk on; with bikes, it becomes very miserable when that happens if forces you to leave.
Turkey Thicket Rec center provides all that an urban areas facility can provide. The staff are friendly and most helpful. They seem to genuinely possess a positive attitude and ownership of the facility. Unfortunately as with most government ran facilities, they are woefully neglegent with repairs, maintenance and landscaping. Even simple repairs and upkeep. However I would happily allow my child to partake in the programs that Turkey Thicket.
The spot to be BASKETBALL PLAYGROUND tennis court, track field even to watch basketball games
Always clean, safe and a great place
I am using the track there to walk....so far it has been a pleasant experience.....
Turkey Thicket is a nice quiet recreation area and it nice place to go swimming and jogging in the community
A very well kept park! Good space for adult games and also has a okay area for kids. In the summer it was water features. The rec center has a pool that is free to DC residents!
We always have an amazing time at Turkey Thicket! The splash park right next to the playground area really appeals to my 4 yr old grandson. He likes to do different things and gets bored easily. But he never gets bored at Turkey Thicket.
Play ground and small water park for children, and parents can cookout, you must bring your own grill. Other than that its nice, swimming pool in recreation building.
Wonderful place for the children. My great grandson celebrated his 2nd birthday at the little water park. Everyone was so nice!
I go there often to walk on the track outside, today I walked on the treadmill indoors, loved the solitude.
The senior aerobics class they have scheduled 2hrs 3x/week really punches us other community Brooklanders in the gut. Most of us working class DCers like to exercise before we head off to work. I don’t understand why this group can’t meet around noon or at the crack of dawn instead of messing over the rest of us tax paying citizens. This is a HUGE inconvenience and I know I’m not the only one who feels it.
I enjoy going to the pool which is always clean and staffed with friendly lifeguards.
I really like this place. My wife and I come here for Tennis as much as the schedule allows for it. There are 6 hard courts that are well kept and usually have a spot open. In addition to the tennis courts, this joint has a ton of other free recreation activities that are a great resource for the community. Its a great use of our local taxes.
I love all the activities they offer there for adults and children I would recommend it.
Great for the kids..play structures.. pool and water park..well maintained PAR course for adults also..as well as sports complex
First time utilizing the facilities!
I love walking my students here. Its the perfect park with play and water area.
The chlorine was off the charts!!! Other than that the staff were nice. The atmosphere was very nice as well. I will take my family here through this summer.
It is a excellent recreation center for all age s
Great spray park outside. Someone hit my car in the parking lot thought.
Great morning walk.
Coach Enoch is a fixture at the Turkey Thicket tennis courts. Hes always willing to work with anyone to help improve their game. James is another fixture when it comes to various pool activities, making himself available during hours that most other places are not. Its instructors like these who make Turkey Thicket a wonderful place.
Turkey Thicket is a very impressive facility! There was a lot of activity indoors and outdoors when I took my granddaughter for her swimming lesson. Outdoors, adults and children were on the track, either walking or running. Theres also a large playground area. Indoors some teens were in the gym playing basketball and as we were leaving, I noticed that same recreation area was being used for an exercise class. People of ages were there enjoying the facility.
The outdoor track has been recently repaired. The tennis courts are always full, and the inside swimming pool is the same. Plenty of room for parking!
The rec bathrooms are dirty never have tissue nor paper towels. The workers at the front desk are rude and make there own rules.
Enjoyed senior line dance Xmas party!
Birthday party at the splash pad a perfect! Only thing that could have made it better was some more shade!
Looks really cute & interactive. Has something for Ppl of all ages ect. Great community resource
Went to look at room for rental. Its was awful.
Love it goes there all the time but do have problems about the pool not opening. I will make it my business for all of us to group up and see whats going on and talked to the mayor about this
I love it. I get up early jog and take a swim before7:30 am and at work by 9am
Atmosphere is great
Excellent boot camp! All levels of abilities, all ages are welcomed and encouraged.
Safe fun place for toddlers to play very diverse
Absolutely love the splash park addition.I love taking my children here
The indoor pool is always shut down when I get there. But we enjoyed the water park instead :)
I love it. It’s perfect for kids and adults
This pool is very nasty they don’t clean the locker rooms the staff are very disrespectful I went one day to have fun and they tried to put me out for using a pool noodle I was slapping the water with it the life guard on duty said he didn’t wanna here the noise and I’m sitting there like what in the hell I then grabbed my items and stated to the lifeguard I guess y’all didnt wanna here them kids that drowned in that pool either
This is my favorite Rec center, great pool staff, clean lockers rooms & hot water, a nice gym to play pick up basketball, a workout gym as well, a outdoor track and a kids splash park. A tennis court with lessons and Summer camp for kids
Great staff, classes star on time
The playground is beautiful and spacious. The spread out nature of all the activities makes it a little hard to keep track of a group but all the exits are upwards from the park a bit which makes keeping track more manageable. The splash pad is a tad worn down and all the spouts arent fully operational so that can be a little frustrating for bigger kids but if fixed the splash pad is huge and will be amazing.
My family and I were there this past Saturday and we had an amazing time. From the splash park to the pool for our age range: 3, 5, 13, 20, 22, 24, 36 and 61 it was nonstop fun! I highly recommend it.
Great playground, clean and well-equipped with splash park.
Normally pretty empty aside for a few seniors or ppl in the lanes. Summer is pretty packed on the weekends with families but always enough room to enjoy yourself. Nice staff. Clean. Overall always a great experience.
A lot to do on the playground. Spacious, seemingly well maintained. Great for all seasons, but especially Summer!
Great walking track with exercise stations. Huge field for baseball or soccer, swimming pool, playground and much more. Plenty of parking. Lots of areas for activities. Clean and well kept. The energy feels good here.
Nice lively place to bring your children and grandchildren
Public.. Bit dirty.. Kids from middle school come over but no problems just loud.. Pool and the hot tub are great.. Treadmills stay busy
Staff is friendly and the pool is usually clean. Dressing rooms could use some work.
The hot tub is amazing anybody have arthritis or trying to get well from a injury this is the best place Washington DC you are free your District of Columbia resident I dont know how much more of these if youre not this was really a good place
Bathrooms could be a bit cleaner but great place.
Clean fun. Indoor pool is mostly clean. Hate the over whelming smell of chemicals
Great playground for big and small kids. Lots of variety. Also has spray section in the summer, tennis courts and walking track, well maintained.
Love the park a lot space the kids to run.
Im really enjoying the aquatic exercise classes here. The instructor at the 9 am class gets 5 stars. The facility is nice but the womens locker room needs some love. Put some draining mats on floors, clean more I think I saw some mildew The staff is nice and helpful.
The playground needs some repairs and the older youth dominate the play space that should be for younger children. The content of their conversations is concerning considering the little ears. This is one of the better DPR facilities however.
Good exercise programs.
I started working out in the fitness center and I noticed its very limited. Also there is usually a line for the exercise bike and it needs to be regulated. A sign in sheet for the equipment would be helpful. Ppl hogging equipment and letting who they want to let use it versus being fair to the next person who was waiting. Everyone should be able to use the equipment and facilities like any one else without having to deal with rude folks. Also it was 11 a.m. and no one was at the info desk. Very unorganized
I received helpful information on senior programs, especially water activities.
For once a very smart lady answered all my questions and with a great smile. Thank you. I hope to see you again.
The bathrooms are FILTHY!! Even though the structure that you see now is less than 15 years old, the center is not large enough or really equipped enough to hold certain and beneficial activities that could positively impact the community. Also, the restructured the track & made it worse. Why renovate/remodel the track when nothing was wrong with it and not expand the track lanes?!?! Piss poor planning.
I can really get a good jog in around this track. My daughter enjoys the playground and in the summer, the splash park ( very small) is a bonus for her
It was my first time visiting and I enjoyed it.
Love the place but directors for tennis are not the best
An awesome family place
Amaaaaazing rec. Love it all
Fun park for all ages. Even though my son is under a year old I enjoyed talking him here and went down a slide with him.
The Staff welcome me and was very helpful. The Pool and Hot Tub Spa was clean and great. I highly recommend visiting!
REMODELED & CLASSY...
Very nice rec center. A little smaller than some good pool
Nice indoor pool for kids and adults and jacuzzi
