This is a great performance space for local theater and shows. The location is intimate since you sit very close to the performers. The sounds was good and even though we were toward the back of the space, the acoustics were clear and sharp. My only concern was about the parking because it is sparse. We arrived thirty minutes early for the show and still had to park two blocks away. Be sure to arrive early for prime parking!
Excellent venue. Plenty of off street parking. Great performances.
the play. Had a part in it myself.lol) got th meet the actors and actresses. So much fun. And you can volunteer.
The place was easy to get to with the street parking. A cozy place to watch a play
Had a great time. Street pkg ok. Been plenty of times. Easy & no problems.
Great venue and excellent show! I definitely recommend going to see any play here!
Very quaint and every sest in the house is a good viewing seat.
This is a hidden gem. Cant wait to go again.
Wonderful play. The acting was amazing
I went to go see a great play call Dew drop which was amazing the cast was great i would recommend it if u can check it out
Amazing experience! Very quaint and cozy location where no seat is a bad seat. Street parking is a bit iffy, but overall a nice venue.
Intimate and enjoyable productions at a facility that provides excellent and accessible on street free parking.
Local theater is a jewel and the Anacostia Playhouse fits the bill. This is the place to see local theater and original works. It is in SE DC, on a parallel street to Martin Luther King avenue. The playhouse also has programs for children. If you like unique, original enjoyable small theater, this is a place to go. It is also handicap accessible and walking distance from the Anacostia subway. Explore and enjoy!
Excellent black box community theater. In house playwrights/producers/stage management, sound engineering. Sound and lighting, professional staff.
Excellent show. Black Nativity
Hidden gem. Small theater in a historic place! Ive seen 3 amazing plays here over the last 2.5 years. Staff is friendly, restrooms are clean and will call is always quick and easy. Student, pay what you can and group discounts are offered. Street parking is never a problem but I would arrive at least 30 minutes before the show to get a good seat.
The cast did an amazing job
Enjoyed Jackie Moms Mabley play presented by The Essential Theatre!!!!!
It was truly AMAZING!! American Moor featuring Keith Hamilton Cobb was OUTSTANDING, I enjoy all your production Anacostia Playhouse never lets me down!!
Nice gem in Anacostia, bringing an opportunity to experience the Arts in SE DC. The layout of the performance hall is very small and intimate which at first seems too close to performance stage but as the show continued gave an up close feel that helped me to get lost at times in the story line and made the experience more personal.
Nice comfortable. Nice and talented people.
Nice venue and nice seating arrangement. Show was nice and I will definitely be back.
Excellent, intimate venue. Second time here, and enjoyed each production immensely.
Great Plays and wondful inviting environment
Im never disappointed by this theater. They always have great plays at great prices.
It was wonderful. I truly enjoyed myself. Looking forward to the next season.
Cute theater hidden in Anacostia. Street parking only so get there early to secure a close spot. Great productions, cant wait to see what they do in their permanent space.
Great setting for excellent drama. The Events is a wonderful play
Very nice little theatre. This is my first time coming here since they relocated and renamed themselves from H street Playhouse to Anacostia Playhouse. I went to see a pre-screening of American Moor and i loved it. If you havent been here you definitely need to try it out.
Excellent play!-Blood at the Root
The performance and cast were A+, and Im absolutely planning to return. Its slightly out of the way, but theyve done a great job adding signage to help find it.
Great theater with a friendly, local feel
Excellent performance
Great addition to ward 8
Such a fantastic little theater! I went for my first time to see the show, Dontrell, Who Kiss The Sea (May 2015), and was absolutely blown away! The theater is small and in-the-round, but it works so well and creates a lovely intimate setting for each performance. The acoustics are fantastic as well! Its clear they put a lot of thought into the design when building this theater. They also offer reasonably priced refreshments as well as beer and wine (which you can take in the theater). As for logistics, Id advise driving or ubering if possible. There is plenty of street parking. Its a good little hike from metro, but do-able if you had to. The seating is first come, first serve, but there isnt a bad seat in the house, I promise.
Nice place
Love this place! It has the most amazing performances.
Comfortable, intimate and friendly atmosphere! Great for theatre and social gatherings!
I went for a very amateurish play. The actors were good but the budget has to be very low to be performed here, in my opinion.
It was the best I wanna go asap again
Went to a play. Friendly folks. Clean bathroom. Very involved in the community.
I have seen a lot of powerful shows here.
Intimate theater. Limited on the street parking

A diamond in the rough...
Learning experience
Stage was small awkward and weird. Concession was makeshift and sort of ghetto. The show that we went to was okay.
Very small theater. Limited parking and seating.
