Great shows! Comparable to shows whose ticket prices are considerably higher. A friend and I split a subscription, which makes bring a subscriber even more affordable. We also very much enjoy the post-performance discussions and strive to attend those whenever our schedules permit. Also, we use the nearby valet parking -- as subscribers, we get a coupon that gives $5 off the normal fee, which we then give to the parking attendants as a tip. And, finally, there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance -- hooray!
Saw a fascinating and moving play called The Agitators about the decades long friendship between Frederick Douglass and Susan B Anthony. It was my first time to The Atlas and it did not disappoint. The show was great and the facilities are very nice. The picture is of an after show discussion with the Artistic Director, Playwright and Directo.
This center houses several theaters in the beautifully renovated old Atlas Theater. In keeping with the buildings past, the theater still hosts the occasional movie, to include old silent films with live accompaniment.Mosaic Theater Company is the resident theater group which presents numerous plays throughout the year.Including the main theater, there are at least two other smaller theaters in the Center. These host other productions to include Prologue Theatre and childrens theater productions.Getting to the theater by public transportation is relatively easy by way of the H-Street Trolley from Union Station or a nice one mile walk from Union Station. The trolley runs about every 15 minutes. Parking is limited in the area and strictly enforced.
We had an amazing show that did little skit pieces through the halls, like an orientation to the show. Fantastically done! The venue isnt one of your opulent types, more high school feeling. Great fun, very easy to reach from the street car.
Nice set of theaters with an organic, neighborhood feel. Friendly staff and clean facilities. Comfortable chairs and temperature. Not a fan of the service fee per ticket when buying as a bundle. That may prove to be cost prohibitive to some. No dedicated parking and street parking is limited. No local metro but streetcar stop is across street. Overall pleasant experience to bring local acts to the stage.
Beautiful Venue for live events. Its intimate but the seats are very comfy. They even host weddings
I took my daughter to see Gumdrom and Mr. Squeakers in December and Mouse on the Move two weeks ago. Both shows were great, my daughter loved them. These performances are meant for children 1-5 years of age. Mouse on the Move was very interactive and allowed the children to be part of the show. I highly recommend Atas Performing Arts Center for childrens theater.
Lovely, modern performance space with a great cafe. I would have given it five stars, but the parking was a bit challenging.
Ive gone here to see Step Afrika several times! I love the intimacy and engagement of their performances. This theater is perfect for newcomers and patrons of the Arts a like!
Went to see Musa & Sheri in the new world!!! Tickets cost $25 a piece. The play had very relevant subject matter and the seats were perfect!
We saw She Kills Monsters. Stage was very intimate. Production was phenomenal and very immersive. Parking was a little difficult, I would search for a Garage in advance if youre uncomfortable with parking on a busy street.Overall, would definitely do it all again!
Great play! Loved the new Renovations. But IT WAS WAY TOO COLD! Everyone was complaining. It made it difficult to enjoy the play.
This is a really great center. I grew up in the neighborhood and am glad to see a wonderful place such as this center. Im happy to see that it is flourishing.I saw the play Fabulation and it was fantastic.
I really enjoyed it the people there was nice they had a good band that but they just ran out of food by the time I got there
Saw Twisted Melodies and it was wonderful, planning on seeing it again before it leaves. Theater is comfortable and staff is pleasant. Wonderful evening.
Really nice place. That was my first time going there. Performed there last night for Artallnight. Loved the vibe!
I dont think that there is a bad seat in the Lang Theater. The Mosaic production of Fabulation was fantastic. The only downside is parking.
Quaint venue with above-average performances, but Twisted Melodies was exceptional...a must see for Donny Hathaway fans! Technical glitches with production logistics cost it a star...Arrive early since convenient parking is not easy to find.
Thank you Atlas for giving my daughter the opportunity and freedom of expression through dance.
My 1st experience there. Attended a great show at the Mosaic Theater. Check out its list of diverse forthcoming shows. Youre sure to find something different, interesting, worthwhile, maybe even exciting...
Wonderful performance space. Parking can involve a long walk. Park at Union Station and take the free (so far...) trolley car, which stops 100 feet away.
Saw Hooded here and the show absolutely amazing. Felt every emotion you could feel while seeing this show. Pretty nice theatre. Served beer, wine and snacks. The area (H St. NE) has tons of restaurants nearby to enjoy some grub before seeing a show here.
Spacious venue with different performance rooms. There is a small Cafe with wine beer drinks and snacks at somewhat reasonable prices. Ticket window is just off the front door and they usually ask for ID at will call.
Magnificent theater venue. Small and Not a bad seat in the house. Many restaurants on H street to dine before performance. Took free trolley from Union Station. Wonderful evening!
Small intimate theater! Great production of, Twisted Melody! I will return!
I went to see the a trio of short plays by Samuel Beckett. It was one of my best theatrical experiences as my artistic vision is very close to that of the playwright, and thus I am thankful to be introduced to the works Beckett this way. Nanna Ingvarsson—two-time Helen Hayes Award winner gave us a superb performance. There were only less than 20 seats in the black box and I was in the front row, so the experience felt extremely intimate and immediate.More details of the show review is below.---http://atlasarts.org/event/scena-theatre-the-beckett-trio-copy/Everything is cut down to the essentials. Humans and set are one, not in the sense that human is reduced to object, but in the sense of oneness. Lighting dimmed slowly from seeing all stage to a slice of a part, the person, the bust, a slice. A frame of darkness.Darkness is a friend. Darkness etches onto humans in space. Human lives passing, rocking away, rocked off in front of my eyes ...Spoken words of Beckett rekindles my senses to appreciate the beauty of the English language.
Enjoy the show there very intimate theatre
What a nice place, they provided a wonderful experience for the children when we visited. The lobby had extra things set up for the kids to do while we waited for the show to start and the people helping out are very nice across the board. The performance area was good for sound and views, though it probably depends how its setup, I was happy through the whole show though in our case.Parking can be hard to arrange and may require a good walk if you want a protected lot, but often you can park on the street near by for free. The neighborhood is safe in my experience but its understandable to want the protection of an observed lot.Great show, great time.
I love the atlas theater is a always a pleasure to visit and work here.
Great theater space! Ticket prices are not too astronomical like most other venues in this town, and the concession stand has some nice options. I look forward to the next play I will see at this great H Street NE theater.
This is a beautifully renovated historic venue for the performing arts, featuring well designed performance spaces and a highly professional and welcoming staff.
The renovations are very well done. The performance space is intimate. I liked the way Step Afrika used every once of the space for their holiday show. Very nice way to envelope the audience in the experience.
Twisted Melidies was exceptionally brilliant in creation and production and performance! I was at HU with Donny and his singing at the fraternity circle on campus. Beyond that continued fan and have most of his albums in my collection. Thanks for bringing the production.
Just saw another great show at Atlas. This time it was Silence, by Pat Kinevane. On earlier occasions, I have enjoyed a spot- on production of Happy Days and a decent Salome, and Matt Alber in concert. Atlas is a place one goes for the irregular, off beat, and irreverent. Its a truly important artistic resource for DC, and should be enjoyed by all, much more of the time.
Second show at this venue. An interesting collection of theatre shows and opportunities for local artists/companies to host productions/perform. I saw Oh God, which was pretty good play, even though I wasnt wowed by the acting. I would check out other plays by the same company.
Nice local theater with amazing performances! My husband and I saw The Agitators last weekend and loved it! The play was really moving and the talented actresses and actors left us both in awe. Their expressions, tone, movement, chemistry - everything was on point.Since the theater is small and stadium style, theres no bad seat in the house! I prefer to sit near the aisles, so I can get a little bit extra space. The seats are comfy, but cozy and may rub elbows with your neighbor. There are no cupholders, so just be a bit careful with your drinks. The show was 2 hours long with a 15 min intermission.Theres a cafe where you can wine/beer/cider/hard alcohol for $9 (theres no stocked bar) as well as light refreshments like chips, candy, nuts, etc. My husband and I spent more on drinks than our tickets. The $25 tickets are a steal! We easily found parking a few blocks away otherwise the valet is $20.The theater is conveniently located next to a bunch of great restaurants and bars. My husband and I grabbed a quick lunch at the vegan eatery, Pow Pow around the corner and went over to the Greek tapas restaurant Sospeso after the show right across the street for some drinks and apps. Both were great options! So glad I discovered this local theater, looking forward to coming back and watching more jaw dropping performances!
Twisted Melodies the one man show about the demise of Donny Hathoway was one of the best productions Ive ever witnessed!!
The Atlas is a beautiful, spectacular venue which offers great shows, concerts and events (I think it can be rented for private affairs). Like the Kennedy Center and Arena Stage, multiple shows can occur simultaneously. It’s hard to imagine it was once just a neighborhood movie theatre. The seats are sure a lot more padded and comfortable now .
The venue was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. I loved the Step Afrika show. I will definitely attend more performances at Atlas.
I saw Sing to Me Now in Lab II at the Atlas PAC. This was the first time Id ever been to this facility, and it was a great experience overall. The center has multiple theaters, so it can be challenging to a first-timer to locate the correct one, especially when they are all running shows on the same night.
Saw a great new indie movie, but the theater was butt cold.
Decent theater space for smaller productions. A very small concessions area sells snacks and alcohol for the usual markup. The theaters are on the small side creating a fairly intimate setting for shows. My limited interaction with the staff didnt leave me with the impression that many of them were organized or fully with it, but the experience wasnt all that bad.
Excellent production of Marie and Rosetta this evening. This real adaptation is truly worth an afternoon or evening out. Full if history and fabulous music.
Saw Twisted Melodies! The theater is beautiful, comfortable, and the staff are courteous.
Went to see a production of Native Son. Amazing performance and the theater itself is new and beautiful.
Complex includes theaters and offices. Home of Ari Roths highly regarded Mosaic Theater Company. Many good restaurants right nearby. Can usually find free or inexpensive street parking within a few blocks.
One of my favorite theaters in the city. They offer such a wide array of performances, with so many opportunities to view them. The staff is always super pleasent and accommodating. The performances are usually done well. Great theater!!!
Great place to enjoy music, dance, and theater!!!
Technical problems caused our play to be delayed. Twisted Melodies was fabulous!
Enjoyed......Went to see the play, Twisted Melodies.
Transportation is tough. Not much parking,Bus is the best. The venue has great, affordable entertainment of all kinds, opera, jazz, dance and more. Usually worth the effort.
Nice atmosphere. Just arrive early for parking
Great venue, great show! We will be back soon
Atlas have some wonderful shows at a very reasonable price
Purchased a ticket. They cancelled the show. When I inquired about a refund, they refused to give me one. Their next idea was to offer me a gift certificate worth 50% less than what I paid for the ticket. Horrible business ethics. Use your money to go see better shows at better venues. This was even after I made a donation.
Ticket staff we very rude and not knowledgeable of the shows being done. We at least thought they would know the neighborhood and surroundings. This too was very untrue.
I loved that play so much.
Very nice atomphere, private saying.
The shows here are wonderful. However the parking is awful in this part of town.If you can take public transit, do it! If you have to drive, just allow 45 minutes to find a place and then walk. Seriously. The good news is that the shows are worth it.
Artistic vibe, no parking, good rates for performances. Very diverse. Good variety of productions. I have never seen a performance here that I did not like.
I saw a performance of 1984 here and it was powerful and extremely engaging. we ran into the actors at a nearby pub. I was skeptical before but this place (and 1984) sold me on the theatre
I love this venue. Its very local to DC and is always highlighting local artist. Its also in a part of town that isnt visited by tourist much, but still has a lot to offer.
Pizza, subs and French fries do die for!
Great little place. The people are always friendly, and the pie is always fantastic. Perfect spot to visit after a show at Atlas next door.
Carefullly curated politically astute plays shown in a historic setting. Love it!
Love their theme to empower the community. They have multiple stages and different types of performance. Its a little out of the way, but there are many great eats nearby.
Wonderful theater company in there second year of production. We have gone to all the shows in the first two season and have enjoyed all the plays. Put it on top of your theater list to go see a show soon. You will love it!
Great location. Plays are awesome!!
Theater that has its things on social justice, you do not want to miss:only because it figs up your want to think brain, without a Google, Wikipedia, Yahoo, apple thought
Fine, well renovated local theater together with its physical features, but parking was nearly impossible. Also, trends more toward experimental theater. Not my thing.
The agitators is an excellent play. Its definitely a must-see.
Nice place with a very wide artist variety.
Great productions for all ages, right on H st in great neighborhood surrounded by great before or after theatre drinks or dinner venues. Parking ... meh. Find an alternative to driving.
Enjoy the music play very educational
Great shoes and professional staff.
Twisted Melodies was a great play
Great preferences and friendly staff that offer excellent customer service!
Enjoyed GMCWs production of WORKING. Twice!
It was a great show, Soonee or Later
Love it, cultural heritage, Latin root. Que viva la Bomba y la plena!
The Atlas Performing Arts Center has been transformed into an attractive and pleasant place for theater. In addition, parking nearby was relatively easy, and there were plenty of options for a quick meal before the show.
Saw a female plena group (Puerto Rican resistance music) and they were AMAZINGGGGG. The theater is beautiful and sells snickers and candy bars like its old skool, which I love. Been coming to this theater for many many years... its a DC treasure!
A beautiful performance space. Easily one of my favorite places now to see a show. I went there for Sonic Circuits and the staff was friendly and the space was beautiful. The place is a pleasant surprise, and I can see why it became the anchor to the H Street/Atlas District.
Beautiful inside and out, often has a lot of interesting events happening and is right next door to a dance studio
Saw a great play Marie and Rosetta, nice venue, great sound.
Good set-up. Community-oriented. Fair prices for refreshments. Great productions - moving and thought-provoking.
There was no A/C for the event that was hosted there and 2 stars is the best I could do. Also, the acoustics in the room werent very good.
I went to The Atlas for a Christmas Party this time, but Ive gone to shows there and they are r great and the concession stand has great service.
Loved the beat-boxing dads!
It had a nice theatre, and seemed like a bustling cultural center with several interactive art pieces in the lobby area and live jazz artists. It was very crowded on the Sunday evening I was there. It was a little dirty while I was there, but that was probably because of the salted winter sidewalks outside plus the high volume of people.
Two intimate theaters. Eclectic dramatic content
