The tour last one hour, but arrive about 20 min early to view a short video summarizing Wilson’s life and presidency. A knowledgeable docent leads you through the sitting room, dining room, bedrooms, and kitchen. Artifacts, furniture, and portraits are explained in each room. Be sure to check out the interactive room at the end where you can sit at a desk or couch and try on spectacles and hats while posing with a phonograph and old telephone from Wilson’s era.
Highly recommend paying the $10 Tour, $5 for students. They give you all the details that you wouldn’t know without the tour.Tours are self-guided.Garden open, weather permitting. The President Woodrow Wilson House offers an intimate look at one of America’s greatest Presidents, statesman and Nobel Prize winner. View authentic objects from the White House and elaborate gifts of state. This Embassy Row house is a living textbook of “modern” American life in the 1920s from silent films to flapper dresses and zinc sinks.
We happened to stop by right before they started a conference on the 100 year anniversary of womens suffrage rights, but they were very accommodating and gave us a tour anyway. Bonnie was an absolute delight. Extremely sweet, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. By far my most favorite place weve visited on our trip to DC.
We visited here last summer it was a great place to see if you like history and historical places this a must place for you to visit. The staff great the tour was very good, a great place for people of all ages.
Could not wait for the next tour. Every hour on the hour had the opportunity to look inside very good assortment of his furniture and the story behind it. Next time I will stay longer.
The tours run every hour on the hour. You get a genuine look at Woodrow Wilsons house, almost everything is still there from the 1920s. Tour guides are very helpful and knowledgeable.
I really enjoyed touring this house. They didnt manage the group size well so that is my only negative feedback and why the 4 stars. 28 people is too large for the space. The tour is by staff member only and on the hour for an hour (20 min. into video). There is a free Mallows Bay exhibit which was a bonus and interesting. This is not great for kids. Or, I should say, not great for kids that are not well behaved and cant listen to the 1 rule. DONT TOUCH ANYTHING...........
I visited with my family and enjoyed the tour.We have been to 28 Presidental homes, libraries and museum s. Hopefully will see 4 more this fall .all are worth the effort and more Americans should go You learn so much more about these people and the times they lived in
Do not leave this off your tour. If you have to choose between this and the Anderson House down the road, this is the one to visit. It was interesting with a very well informed guide willing to discuss critical points and detail. Recommended.
I have visited twice and love the house! Everything is pretty much as it was when Wilson lived there. Intriguing and so interesting.
Woodrow Wilson home is such a beautiful hidden jewel in Washington D.C. I live in N. VA and have done almost everything in DC. I wanted to try something different and chose the Woodrow Wilson home. Their website is not the best, but WOW the home and tour is spectacular! The home is 11,000 square feet and 90% of the furniture and artifacts are original. Beautiful paintings, art and decor. The tour is an hour long and includes a short introduction video about Woodrow Wilson. The home takes you back to the 1920s and is just amazing. I would even go again. I will definitely take my next out of town guests here. Parking was great too. I went on a Sunday and parked literally right in front of his home.
One of the best historical sites I have visited. The experience was unrushed and intimate, with very helpful and attentive docents.
Great and interesting historical landmark. The staff is kind and the guided tour very pleasant. I had a great time and I recommend the visit!
After having been to numerous presidential homes, I can honestly say this is one of my favorites. The house is located near the historic embassay row and the walk to the house was interesting on its own. And then there is the house. First off, there was no else besides my family and I at this historical gem, so if youre looking to avoid the tourist traps and see some history, this is your place. Like I said earlier, I have been to many presidential homes. Most of them contain reproductions of house items or just period pieces. However, in this house almost everything is original, including the pen Woodrow Wilson used to sign the WWI declaration of war. The tour was interesting and informative and I came away with a new respect for Woodrow Wilson. Id recommend this for anyone interested in Woodrow Wilson or history.
Hidden gem in the heart of DC!
We received a group guided tour through the house. The guide was extremely well informed about Woodrow Wilson, his two wives, and of course the house. The house is fully furnished with Woodrow Wilsons actual furniture, and looks just as it was when he lived there after his presidency. We learned so much about this president, his times and accomplishments. The house is beautiful, and as others have said, it is in a beautiful neighborhood.
My husband and I took an educational tour of Wilson House through a Groupon offer. The Wilson House tour was wonderful and well worth the small fee charged.I should note our tour guide was informative, polite and provided terrific insight into the Wilson era.Thank you President Wilson for serving our nation.I have included photos of my husband standing in front of the Wilson House, a selfie of me and my husband at the Wilson House, the Wilson House kitchen and a variety of other Wilson House gadgets.I also want to note that Amazons Bezos is building a custom home next store to the Wilson House. Now that is some expensive real estate.Cheers!XO
The guide was very interesting to listen to. Had good stories to tell. I would recommend this tour. It is in a beautiful neighborhood.
Amazing house amazing tour, very detailed The staff is super friendly and helpful. I wish it had access to the garden. Keep it up !
Well preserved home that offers a unique view into Wilsons life. Definitely worth a visit
Wilson was a ... problematic president to say the least. But a fascinating snapshot of American history and a fascinating house.
I went here and Woodrow Wilsons ghost fingered me.11/10 -Robbie Rotten
