Very nice museum. I enjoyed very much. There exhibits were cool, interesting to look at and easy to engage with. It was also nice because its not very big so you can really see everything and when you leave you wont feel like you missed anything. Teenagers and adults would probably really like it. Little kids will like some of it. Its a great place to spend a morning or afternoon in.

The exhibits in the museum are pretty good. The layout is pretty simple. There could be a much better focus explaining the progression of policing over time. The experiential parts of this museum are excellent, namely the dispatching center and especially the training simulation center. The biggest downsides of this museum are the entry fee which is very steep and the store which has gouging prices. The training simulation by itself may make up for the entry fee, but there is no way I could justify the store prices.

The National Law Enforcement Museum is a mostly-underground facility located adjacent to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DCs Judiciary Square (400 block of E Street, NW). The museum covers American law enforcement through interactive exhibits, historical and contemporary artifact collections, with a dedicated space for research and educational programming. It officially opened on October 13, 2018.The architect for the museum is Davis Buckley Architects and Planners, the firm that also designed the Memorial. Plans for the museums exhibitions include permanent galleries and one changing exhibitions gallery. The design of the permanent galleries was first undertaken by Christopher Chadbourne & Associates of Boston. When that firm closed, the design effort was completed by Studio 647 of Washington D.C. (exhibition design) and One By Design of Gloucester, MA (graphic design). Media elements were produced by Richard Lewis Media Group and Donna Lawrence Productions. The exhibits were built and installed by Design and Production Incorporated of Lorton, VA.

Long but useful. First, this is not a Smithsonian museum so it isnt free. No big deal. The building is great and beautiful . One problem is that its quite small. Only the 3rd floor has anything. (1-entrance and security, 2- ticket sales, museum store, snack bar, bathrooms 3-actual exhibits. It has some cool stuff but there were lots of interactive stuff so you can listen in and use. This seemed like it was a waste of money since there wasnt much to do, but the gift shop is pretty good. Best part was the shooting simulations. I told the gentleman I really wanted to do it but he ended up on using kids for the 4 volunteers. That sucked. It would be nice to let more people take a turn but I didnt have time to wait for another one before I had to leave. The GREAT part of it was that it gave the volunteer cops a chance to see just how quickly things can go downhill and I feel that will show both the volunteers and the audience what police do on a daily basis.

All about law enforcement tools, analogies, videos, statistics, analysis of few past incidents, some sample trial cases to be solved, sample forensic/weapon identification, real display of a police car with explanation of control, lights and sounds, role of police dogs, sample jail, a movie on law enforcement officials! Interesting. The museum is situated in the DC judicial district amidst courthouses and law firms, so theres a certain poignancy to it. But its also well off the main tourist traffic routes, and seems under-visited. Given the technological sophistication, cost, and polish of the presentations, I would also wager that its overcapitalized. More employees milled around than visitors during our time there on a Sunday afternoon over a holiday weekend. I gather from press reports that if the museum is not in a state of receivership, it may at some point be. The spaces are large and open, the exhibits thoughtfully arranged and presented, and the overall theme a laudable one (to the fury of some commentators, the basic presumption behind the place is that the enforcement of public order is a positive social good, and that the story of law enforcement in America is one of fundamentally good, well-meaning people performing a tough, compromising job). Some of the artifacts were damned cool (J.Edgar Hoovers desk and chair...wow!), but given how deeply, broadly, and sometimes tensely policing is woven into the history of modern America, they were surprisingly thin. My teenage son participated in an armed tactical decision-making scenario conducted by an experienced trainer, and came away impressed and very thoughtful about what it involved. That alone made the entire visit worthwhile, but I can understand the gripes by some in this review thread about the high price of adult admission. In another community, in a different town, a museum like this might stand out. But the tourist market in DC is crowded and high-quality, and a place like this needs more downmarket appeal. Were I running it, I would collect more swag and fill the place with stuff - more actual historical gear, perhaps, preferably attached to lurid narratives - and perhaps go edgier with deeper, more extensive looks at especially controversial moments. Im writing this on MLK day, for the love of Pete. No tour of policing in modern America - no matter how fundamentally positive - is complete without a picture of Birmingham cops putting the dogs on black citizens. Most thoughtful, intelligent people like being intellectually and morally challenged - at least within limits - and they like museums that make them think.

We also visited the smithsonian museums during our visit to DC but there is something so much more touching and inspiring about the exhibits here. My husband is a police officer and I have always had respect for law enforcement and the military and reading the stories accompanied by the exhibits was just so inspiring. There is also a great gift shop here and the two women working there at the time were so kind and personable. There is a charge to get into this museum where as the Smithsonian is free but knowing my contribution helps keep this amazing museum running as well as a portion going to the families of officers is absolutely worth it.

A nice museum about the history of American police. It’s small, just one floor, and mostly interactive - a lot of video simulators of American police everyday work, as well as simulation of 911 call center. But the best part of the exhibition is the real police car where you can actually seat. Also the staff is very friendly. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the price of 22$ - in my view, 15$ would be ore reasonable since the museum is not that big. But the good thing, that maybe because of the price the museum is empty (at least on Saturday it was so), so you can enjoy all the exhibitions without crowd. Definitely worth to visit!

Sadly, this museum has already defaulted on ALL their bond payments after being open just a short time! In fact the investors seem to have been scammed! They were lent over 100 million dollars by investors (just regular common people who tried to support this project) and they refuse to make their payments as they claim they have no money and not enough visitors coming to this Museum. They need to close this facility, sell the building, pay their investors and move on. It is obvious to everybody that they are failing because the museum is not worth the high price of admission, especially with all the free Museums in the area. Even worse is the poor example that is being made on behalf of our fallen officers. These officers deserve better than to be a part of such a failing organization. An organization who believes its ok to borrow/take 100 million dollars to build a facility and not pay back their lenders/investors who believed in them and gave their support. In fact many of these investors were families, relatives and friends of these same Fallen Officers and heroes that the Musem was suppose to honor! I welcome this Museum to respond to this post!

They particularly enjoyed the 911 call simulator and Take a Case simulations. They also loved sitting in the police vehicle, watching how K9 dogs are taught/raised, seeing how SWAT cases play out, and following (virtually) a suspect. The tour was not great. It offered little you would not achieve by simply walking around and, more frustratingly, the tour guide was not prepared. She read directly from a printed script and, when students raised their hands and asked questions, she became visibly annoyed and (more often than not) could not answer their questions. We will be coming back, but we will forgo the tours in the future.
