West Maui Forest Reserve

The Waihee Ridge trail is roughly 2.1 miles of continuous uphill hiking. Its a great workout and there are no difficult or dangerous technical climbing sections. Your legs will probably feel it by the time you get to the top but it is well-worth the view!

The beauty of this forest reserve is stiffling, this unblemished piece of Maui seems to beat at its own drum away from the crowds of kehei or Lahaina. You can actually hike up into the clouds, this experience was once in a lifetime and it was an honor to have it.

Enjoy this beautiful hike with gorgeous views of mountains and the ocean. You may need to be moderately fit to do the hikes, so come prepared. Bring lots of water and snacks. If you like clear views target earlier in the day. But if you like to see the mysterious foggy experience go in the afternoon.

This is a beautiful hike along a lush mountain ridge with excellent views of the surrounding verdant canyon. There are a few impressive waterfalls that can be seen from a distance. We hiked after a rain and the trail was a bit muddy but not overly slippery with hiking shoes. The advantage of the rain was that we were able to witness a large double rainbow at the top. Dont get discouraged as the first part of the hike is VERY steep up a paved trail. The trail levels off after a short bit and is much easier and more scenic following the initial challenge. We very much enjoyed this hike and would recommend it as moderately difficult.

Excellent 2.5 miles hike up the Waihee trail, well maintained trails, and its free. Beautiful views.

Iao National park is definitely a must see.if you are in town. It doesnt take up a lot of your day. About 20 minutes from kahului airport and I would say on average people would spend about an hour and a half hear if you stick to the main foot paths. We decided to keep walking up through the brush and along the stream. We walked about a kilometer up the path but I feel like you could get the same view of the stream most of the way up. Still good fun to have a little hike though! You can swim in the stream if you want to in some spots that dont have as much current flowing through.

The zip lining was awesome at Kapalua Ziplines. The guides and operators we all extremely nice and really went the extra mile to make the experience quite amazing. The side by side ziplines we something we had never done before. The staff made you feel very comfortable and even displayed how to cut a pineapple properly. Thanks for the memories Kapalua Ziplines!

This is some breathtaking part of the world folks. Cost of entry is likely a nervous significant other in the passenger seat. The road get single-car wide along cliff edges where, as the driver, you cant tell how far that drop is. Youve seen pics of like, South America, those crazy roads with the busses and the cliffs? Like that, but little to no traffic. Clockwise keeps you to the inside of the lane. At night, you can see oncoming headlights which is helpful, but you miss all of the wild wild views. If you rented a suburban, youre gonna have a bad time. The locals drive as if they know the road, so be ready for that. Very few (reasonable) areas to stop and take pictures beyond the ohai area, due to the road itself. But man. Its cool.

I’ao Valley is a must-see for both tourists and locals on Maui. Parking in the lot has a small charge, but most people park alongside the entrance road for free and the park itself is free to enter. There’s a beautiful lookout of I’ao Needle, a rock formation, and a river path that follows the I’ao stream down below. This path goes quite a way out past many good swimming spots. Highly recommend for people of all ages!

Nice trails. Some of the trails to the valley are blocked due to downed trees from rainfall. It was a beautiful area

If you love trail.. this is quick one to see the valley and sea. Parking space near the entrance is limited. As the trail doesnt take more than an hour, waiting for 20 to 30 minute at the gate will get you the parking spot as others leaving.

Beautiful views but not a hike for the beginner..very very steep 90% of the hike and very slippery coming down

A must see attraction for anyone who is visiting Maui. Theres so much to see here. Make sure you dress warm if youre coming up early in the morning or in the evening.

Tropical Hawaii as advertised. Strenuous hike, large elevation changes over short distance profile. Amazing vistas rewards.

Great hiking trail, fairly easy to find. You definitely want to park at the regular lot and not the over flow lot. The overflow parking is a good mile away from the trail. The trail starts fairly difficult, but that part only last a couple minutes. Once it levels out it is a great trail. Highly recommend if you are looking for an over all easy hike, but definitely do on clear days.

Such a fun hike! Started at the lookout point amd headed in the canyon along a dirt path. Swimming holes with a rope swing, great views and lush jungle scenery. Lots of birds and guava trees along the paths. Unfortunately did not make it to the cliff at the end because it was getting dark. Some climbing involved which adds to the experience!

Was excited to do this hike as I was on the Lahaina side of the island and it said this was only 16 minutes away driving, but when we followed google maps it led us to the dirt road that was restricted with a Do Not Enter sign. Don’t follow google maps directions as it’s a dead end.We ended up driving further to find a local to ask where the actual entrance was, and she said on the other side of the island :/

A must visit for anyone coming to Maui. Majestic and as close to FREE as any Maui attraction is gonna get.

The views are spectacular. Expect rain and hot temperatures, as well as slippery walking paths. There is a parking lot right at the trail entrance.

What an amazing place to fully experience the Maui mountains. This beautiful landscape hides river pools and more. Unlimited exploration, you just gotta go off the beaten path.

Amazing adventure to be had by all. We had the entire reserve to ourselves. Very scenic, lush landscape with easy to follow. The hike into the first waterfall was about two miles, maybe less. We ventured down a small tributary that did not look like it had much to offer, we could not have been more wrong. Twenty minutes into the offshoot, we found another gorgeous set of waterfalls. Well worth the time and effort.

Magical place. Beautiful and picturesque as you see in movies (i.e., Jurassic Park) wall of tears, beautiful valleys, and tallest cliffs all in one sacred place. Highly recommend. Only accessible through helicopter as there are no ground access to these places.

Got to go hiking here with my wife and good friend. It was a lovely experience and very quiet. We even met a local woman who was doing some work in the woods and was very very knowledgeable and very friendly. This place is spiritual and magical.

Better be ready for a workout, cardio and calves. Views are epic. 15 minutes to first view, 5 more to platform, then if you want to go the rest of the way, you can post your experience. Ive heard good reports from people who went to to of trail. Its nice in the clouds.

It is a nice place to visit and see nature, but the true experience is off the beaten path, either up through a beautiful stream or through a mountain hike to the peak. Worth it

Worth the hike. Hop the fence at the top and do it. Bring water. Lots of water.

A fun trail to walk even in the rain! We used a Hiking app to log our travel. A couple of notes: If you come when its cloudy prepare for it. Less clothes is best or the poly type. Rain coats are too warm and tennis/sneaker shoes will get water soaked. Saw a couple of people with thong sandles. Dont even try the trail with that footwear. There was one port-o-potty that needed a good cleanup. A big distraction.

Very nice stop to view some great scenery. The history is pretty cool and makes you appreciate the Hawaiian culture more.

This is a good place to do hillhiki g and look at lava formations.There are no pu lic restrooms and limited parking on residential streets.Wear good shoes with ankle support.

Sheer beauty, mountains are amazing. A few waterfalls here and there. We hiked up and had lunch up top. I would definitely go again.

There is a border that u are not to enter but visitors dont care and they trash the place. Belive me if locals enter they have permission. Dont get me wrong there some dumb #&# that go there but at least they get lectured later on. The view up there is spectacular. Plus it is a bit cooler then in town. Also bring lots of water. Also whatever you bring in please take it back with u. And no just take things that no belong to you unless u have permission. If this place get trashed does it stay beautiful?

West Maui mountains are a different world, the landscape changes with every 100 feet in elevation. A+ hiking and mountain biking.

Wet, muddy, and too difficult for person with bad knees. Go when it is dry and hasnt rained a lot.

Slaughterhouse beach in June is shaded and has wave height good for beginning boogie boarders. We had the beach to ourselves, mostly, until 10am

Looks spectacular from above...must visit this island soon.

KAPALUA ZIPLINES IS AWESOME!

This was a great place to hike and walk around. Everything is so beautiful.

Covers quite a few sites with good views and hiking trails. From southern side it always appears beautiful view coz mostly seeing colorful cloud on top of mountains. Very often rainbow decorated the mountain when view it from south. Sceneries are very impressive.

The life of the land is perptuated in righteousness.
