If you are looking to be taken back to an era where modern machinery and technology wasnt a thing. To where people thought about how to get there next meal vs how to find a place to charge their phones, then you want to come here. Situated on a single lane road, in the middle of hill, this beautiful house will take your breath and wonders away.If you are coming off of S High st, you hang a left onto main and follow it up passed the church. You will see it located to the left.Once inside you are greeted by a friendly young gentleman. He will explain to you about the house and the different rooms that are located inside of it. He suggests turning around and starting inside the gallery and following it through to a room with more artifacts including shells, tools and jewelery. Once you are done there you can head upstairs to watch a historical video about Maui and the people of Maui. While also checking out some of the other things it has to offer. You continue your way up the stairs and reach a bed room. The bed inside the room is a beautiful framed bed. It has a stunning pink and white blanket on top of it. The thought of it being woven in those days is truly amazing. There is a dresser and a few other things you may want to look at. You will be really taken back.Upon leaving the Bailey house you can go check out the canoe and surfboards located towards the side of the house. Keep following it to the left and you will see a very intriguing ledge with some rocks nestled in the back. Beautiful flowers cover the property as well as a few nice photo opportunities. This was one of the coolest things we did on the island yet. Myself, Im a history geek. So being able to step into a house that was made brick by brick, board by board is truly breathtaking. If you are looking for a truly unique place in Maui to visit, or a quiet romantic day with your partner. This is really a spot to go.Ps. Make sure you get there relatively early. It get busy, fast.
This museum has the 2nd largest collection of artifacts in Hawaiʻi. Itʻs a great place to stop by, learn about the sacredness of Mauiʻs history and to see the relics on display.
This was an afternoon well spent!! Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour more of a conversation with all involved. the artifacts were very interesting and the history of the culture as well as the history of the Hawaiian territory becoming a state is fascinating. We highly recommend a visit!!

This little museum was quite a surprise. Large collection of pre-contact Hawaiian artifacts. We had a great tour guide named Zach. Knowledgeable and very friendly. He definitely has the ALOHA spirit. Worth your time to go and see this little gem on you way up to Iao park.
Great historic place. Great volunteer staff
Im so glad I stopped in here. The staff are obviously passionate about the history and culture of the Islands and eager to share their knowledge. The displays are informative and interesting. Do take the time to watch the video they have playing on the second floor. Its a perfectly informative piece about the relations between Hawaii and the US, delving into their cultural revival and desire for independence. They have a great assortment of books and local crafts for purchase.
It was a nice place to visit and see some of the history of Maui.
Fun little museum, probably my favorite of the four on the passport. If you like history this place has it. Would museum again.

Such a fun visit and the perfect place for a rainy day. The volunteers here were the sweetest and we learned so much about Maui and Hawaiian culture. Our trip wouldnt have been nearly as fun without it.
If you love history this is a must see. Buy the group package and youll love it even more.
A must stop if youre a history buff... the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds are nicely kept and the artifacts are very interesting.
This is a small historical gem in the old town of Wailuku. When you come to this place its like going back in time to win do Europeans first settled into Hawaii.
Im so glad we visited this museum, I learned so much!
Very good. But no air conditioning. Expensive. Some staining. Dog hair on bed cover.
Personal guidance provided great insight into Hawaiian culture and history.
Small local museum. Has some very good displays. A bit political on some areas.
Discount for Seniors so only $5/pp. Yes its small but staff is knowledgeable. One must see item is the Hawaii annexation video that tells the story of how the US government permitted the installation of a government run by and for the sugar plantation owners. This video is available for purchase.
Lots of historic artifacts here. Great place to educate ones self of the post contact of the pakeha settlers.
Was very nice and casual short stops that are not to far apart.
This place has very kind people and the history of the items and art is great. I could spend hours just looking at all the cool artifacts there.
Very interesting and nice visit. I learned alot!
Great local museum. Not in the mainstream tourist path - which is what made it better.

Good place to get some local history instead of the usual touristy things.
Very beautiful and full of history.
Lots of historical information given. Front staff was knowledgeable.
Hawaiian History. A smallish building housing artifacts.
We got access with the Maui Value Pass, otherwise it costs $7 each (Jan 2016). The Wikipedia page tells most of whats here. It was a boarding school for girls for 10 years or so (1837-47), then it was Baileys own home after he bought it from the Hawaiian Crown in 1850, and he lived there about 50 years. There are 100 exhibits of Baileys landscape art, otherwise its a mishmash of exhibits from about that era. It was pleasant, but small. We saw no evidence of how it was used as a school. We saw the canoe, Dukes surfboard and the Kamapuaa statue, but none of it seemed particularly remarkable. The volunteers/staff werent very knowledgeable, or maybe we visited too near closing time.Much more interesting was the garden park further up Main Street in Iao Valley. Great picnic stop. Some locals came around with gigantic car stereos, I had to turn on the car alarm until they would go away!
A great place to visit and learn something new
Great place to learn the history of the people of HI.
Lots of history of the Hawaiian People
Great shopping, largest selection of Hawaiiana books on the Island, the cutest feather themed holiday ornaments
