My fourth trip to Virginia, different times of the year, different years, and this place is ALWAYS closed. My daughter lives in Virginia Beach and has never caught them open so she can see the inside of the house. Do not waste your time coming here!

Visiting VA Beach on vacation and wanted to check out the local history and this place is a gem! They offer an hour tour, with a 7 minute video introduction and a room of artifacts either before or after the guided tour. Our tour guide, Elizabeth, is a lovely woman who has a great sense of humor and a wealth of information- you can tell she loves history and she is great at answering the questions youre thinking in your head! The staff is friendly, the tours are well worth the 5-7 dollar fee, and I definitely recommend this one (and Im sure the other tours related to older homes, grouped with this one on the website, are worth it as well)!! Also you can explore the grounds when the tour is done :)

Our group attended the ghost tour, an interesting perspective on possible hauntings at the house. Unfortunately, it wasnt very scary! Adding a few dark pics for perspective.

Great learning experience about local history. Lead off video is better than most historical background videos. Just enough humor to keep it from being too dry. New museum is very well done. Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the house and the Thoroughgood family history.

I grew up in this Neighborhood in the 60s. As kids we rode our bikes all around this brick home during the daytime hours only because We were told that sounds were heard coming from this house at night. Im sure that mystery has long since been resolved and im grateful that they are trying to preserve it and its history.

A great historical site. You get to watch a video first and then you get a tour of the house. The tour guide was very informational and you learn a lot of interesting facts about the place. There is also a museum at the visitor center.

Oldest house in Virginia beach Adam Thoroughgood, originally settlers from England around 1680 dont quote me on that - off by 30 years according to the photo. If you like a bike ride now is the time with all the dogwoods and azaleas in full bloom. Ride down Thoroughgood lane.

Was closed when we stopped by during a bike ride. Looked in the windows and it seems like it contains period furnishings. Garden is a bit lacking, but it is nice and quiet there. Will visit again when it is open.
