An incredible place! Highly recommend for anyone interested in history of the region or the paranormal. Cody is a great host and very knowledgeable about the history of the house and grounds. Josh gave us a wonderfully informative tour before our overnight investigation. Cant wait to come back.
The history of this home grabs you from the moment you step onto the curved path leading to the front entrance. Walkway stones etched with names and little details offer a treat to read and reflect on before you even reach the store. The gardens are dedicated to various things: tea, for example, and one specifically to Grace Sherwood. Strolling around the large home offers a nice view of some local history and peering in the windows is fascinating. And this is just the grounds! Definitely pay them a visit!:)
Loved it!! My husband and I, along with our son and his family, were in Virginia Beach on vacation, and we were told about the Ferry Plantation House. So glad we decided to visit there and take the tour! The two ladies who were our guides were awesome!! They were so informative about the house and its history and former owners, while being utterly engaging with their humor!! Totally made the tour a real delight. Even our 6yr old grandson enjoyed it. Cant encourage people enough to make a visit here and take the tour. So interesting, so informative, and SO enjoyable because of these ladies and their dedication to what they are doing here!!!
I have been curious about Ferry Plantation for a while and am so glad I was able to come for the Christmas open house. It was lovely and everyone was so friendly and enthusiastic about sharing what they know about the house. I will be coming back for events in the coming year!
It was a little confusing to find it but we got it! This place was cool. Once you walk inside you could feel how different it was. As me and my family were on the second floor and no one was on the first floor. We heard a door close! Felt like an animal was around our feet. But it was a cool place to see and know about.
Does any paranormal activity happen there during the tours?
Im sure it would be really cool if it had been open when it said it was. I wanted to see it so bad. And we drove pretty far to come see it. Their site said that they were open, but when we got there they werent. No sign on the door, nothing.
Make sure to call and check open hours. Google made a mistake on this one. Went ahead and walked around the very small property on my own since closed. Its ashame thw city has built houses right on too of this historic landmark. Really takes away from the value historically with paranormal advertising on the doors. Seriously.
Paracon was a great time! The home is beautiful and the guides and the best! Very cool and hot, if you know what I mean
Tour guides are so informative and lively. The history that is here and the fact that they have worked so hard to preserve this place is amazing. Everyone should go!
Great place with lots of history. We did sense things several times during the tour, Thank You Gerry for the very informative tour.
Had a great time during the Christmas Carol presentation.
This place is fantastic! The tour was interesting and the tour guide was very entertaining. The tiny gift shop is so cute and has nice items.
Wonderful place to visit. Excellent tour guides, very interesting .
Just left and cannot WAIT to come back to a Friday night fright night ! This might be my favorite plantation tour I’ve been on. Josh was nothing short of amazing in teaching us all of the history that took place on these grounds. I wish I took more pictures I just can’t get enough of this plantation! I’ve been dying to come tour it all year and I’ve finslly gotten my wish and left very VERY pleased! Thank you again ! If you’re reading this and haven’t gone yet you are missing out !!!!
Absolutely love this place. So much history and their Fright Nights are a lot of fun.
Nothing but great things to say about this place. Brennan gave an amazing tour, and his enthusiasm and excitement about the history of the house was contagious. He was able to answer all of our questions, of which there were plenty. Ill definitely be telling my friends, and coming back again.
Paracon 2019 was amazing and Im looking forward to going next year
Amazing experience, learned a lot of history, excellent tour guides. Worth the time & love how the money is a donation for the place . Definitely worth coming !!!!
Closed for renovations. Couldnt see anything but the outside of the house.
I loved this museum, it didnt feel like a museum it felt like me at a friends house, but also the stuff there was mind blowing
A treasure in a sea of suburban mediocrity! This gem of history stands as a pillar of historic knowledge to humanities dark past. The spirits of the long buried still roam the hallowed ground, making themselves known to the unsuspecting visitor of this aged dwelling. The conversant guides are a wealth of knowledge and stories. A foray into the haunting history of this fascinating estate is well worth the journey.
Really enjoyed myself it was pouring down rain on our ghost tour but we still had an enjoyable experience staff members are great
The tour was awesome very informative and interesting. The guide sorry I forget her name has been there for 22 years as a volunteer and could answer every question but one and I ask alot of questions.
Informative, but only open 3 days a week for tours
Great piece of history!... Thanks to all the volunteers that keep the place going!
Amused by the negative comments by the one who could not find the house and those who felt nothing or saw nothing. I saw a door open by itself, heard the footfalls of children on the third floor, and experienced an intense reaction under the magnolia tree. Crossing the threshold from the jail to the living quarters aroused a historic feeling or aura, a complete turn from lightness to not so light. I researched the history of the place first and remained open to whatever could happen. If one is respectful and mindful of the other world inhabitants, the tour will probably go well.
Very nice restored house with many artifacts from the Victorian era. Tour was great, we learned a lot about the history of the area and the day to day life in the house. Tour guide was amazing, knowledgeable and charismatic. Some practical info: admission is 10$ for adults and 8$ for students in a cash box/cc in gift shop.Place is completely run by volunteers.
Its amazing that this house is tucked away far in a neighborhood and right in other folks back yard. Too bad development had to happen. There is some amazing historical facts to this house. My only advice would be is to take your time in and around this house!
Very friendly tour guides and informative. Nice little store inside the house. Very old and historical in the middle of an upscale neighborhood
Very informative. Loved the guide. Check out the 300 year old Magnolia tree.
Very interesting and informative. Tons of history in one location. Learned many new things Ive never heard about before from the tour and guide. If you love history and enjoy holding it in your hands this is a must. Third courthouse in US but the first brick one. Supposedly haunted...
Cody was fantastic, great knowledge and interesting stories.
This place has a lot of interesting historical value. My tour guide Jerri, took her time and was very informative. It is 10 dollars per person, and the tour lasted over an hour. It is posted as being open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10-2. The tour is run by volunteers. If you like American History, I recommend it.
This place is fantastic! Our tour guide, Cody, was great. The tour was over one hour long and very interesting. We will definitely be going back.
Fun your, very homey and informative.
The plantation house is closed yet again. We came on Thursday just before 1pm. It says it closes at 2pm and the last tour is at 1pm. This place seems never open. We werent the only ones here.
Loved my experience there. Such history. They have done a beautiful job restoring this property. Cant wait to go again.
