We visited the McRaven home for their 7pm ghost tour on a Saturday. Bought in 2015 by the Reed family after sitting vacant for 7 years, it is clear that the McRaven house is cared for very lovingly by its new owners. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was happy to answer questions and share his personal experiences. He thanked us for visiting and supporting the house, which is arguably one of the most historically significant buildings in all of Vicksburg. We highly recommend a visit to McRaven, and we will be back for the history tour soon!
First I want to say Daniel our tour guide did an amazing job telling the stories and the history of the house. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and engaging. I am very impressed with how well kept the mansion is maintained. I definitely plan on coming back. So we just got back to the hotel from the haunted McRaven house tour and my sister noticed dark marks on her legs that we thought was dirt. After trying to rub it off weve realized theyre bruises. During the tour she kept feeling something touching her legs.... Im not superstitious usually but
A beautiful home that is absolutely alive with history, antiques and spirits.I took my daughter and a group of her friends to tour the home on a Sunday afternoon. While we were taking the tour, a cabinet closed and then opened on its own. A girl in our group was touched by something, and the only boy in our group had quite a fright that raised the hair on his arms while we watched it happen. The history of the house alone is worth the price of admission, and the house is full of beautiful antiques. If you are passing through and have an hour to spare, this is a must see attraction.I will definitely be returning to McRaven for another tour.
An awesome experience! We did the haunted tour and it was fantastic! Our tour guide was REALLY good and a wonderful storyteller. She was also dressed in period costume, which was an extra-special touch. We enjoyed it so much, that we plan to return for an Investigation. We’re not from the area, but it would be worth the 4 hour drive. Book this tour...you will not be disappointed!!
The Mcraven house is truly a unique, historic house. The original structure was built in the late 1700s by a highwayman who used it as his hideout, robbing travellers on the Natchez Trace. After his death, the house was sold, and the new owner added on to enlarge the house in the early 1800s.When that owner died, the house was again sold, and the new owner added on to the front of the house again, this time in a fancy Georgian style. Each time the house was added on to, the older parts were left as is. This leaves each part of the house as a time capsule, with the oldest part still with its original plaster and blueberry color. This house is definitely haunted, and we experienced some unexplainable things while we toured the house. Our tour guide (Jessica?) was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient, answering all the questions we had. We really got our moneys worth, as our 45 minute tour took nearly two hours (questions and ghost hunting). We had a really nice visit, learned a lot about Vicksburg history we didnt know, and had some pretty awesome ghostly encounters. The grounds are fascinating also, and we had a relaxing stroll, exploring the place where soldiers were camped, wounded, and died (the gardener still finds bones). The house itself is beautiful, unique, and lovely. This tour was a complete delight!
Just did a virtual tour with Daniel as part of a virtual conference and it was wonderful! He was very thorough, a great story teller and made the house really come to life. Lots of great history in this house and Daniel was sure to tell it all. Will definitely be making a trip to Vicksburg in the near future to visit this house in person. A must see if you are a history buff.
Fantastic time, McRaven House Ghost tour. Fascinating place. No visual ghost encounters, but there was some creaking on the stairs behind me when no one was there, and one creepy image in one photo. The house and it’s history is what made it fascinating. Understandable why National Geographic called it the “Time capsule of the south.” Great time for our family. Thank you, to our host Daniel. He did a great job.
Shawn the guide was very nice and informative on the tour. 10/10 will go again. Very spooky stuff! And the history behind it all is very worth it.
We did the paranormal tour. Its worth the money. The history is amazing and the house is truly haunted
Be sure to take the history tour as McRaven has a lot of gorgeous antiques. The haunted tour at night is an absolute must. Learning about all the people who lived in the house and the friendly and mischievous ghosts who haunt it still today.
Daniel was a great guide. He did a wonderful job at explaining everything and answering all of the questions I had. I had an overall fantastic experience and cant wait to do the ghost experience.
This tour saved Vicksburg for us. We were only here for one night on our way to Florida. Most of the town closed at 4, the battlefield was only half open, the restaurant the employee from the tourist center recommended was extremely overpriced and the food was horrible. My wife and I are very interested in the paranormal so we were really looking forward to this stop but were reluctant after having a bad experience with literally everything else in town. This home honestly lives up to its name and reputation. John was our guide and he is very knowledgeable and an excellent story teller. The home has a very creepy vibe and you can feel the heaviness in some rooms. We caught several images on camera that we didnt know until later that night. Including shadow people. All around, this is an incredible place, an incredible tour, and we are planning a trip back with our entire family next time. It made us decide to give the entire town a second chance. So stop reading reviews and buy the tickets.
A very interesting building and museum. We enjoyed our tour tremendously. Stephen was knowledgeable, personable, and made the tour extremely interesting. I highly recommend visiting if you are ever in Vicksburg.
Forever enjoyable! Would do the tour again. Steven was very knowledgeable in the history of the house and property. Thank you so much for a chance to go back in time and enjoy the little things.
Very interesting tour of three different time periods of the house.
Fascinating! Intriguing! Beautiful! Ourparty of six, ages 19-63, just completed the tour and loved it! Our guide, Jessica did a wonderful job, replete with vivid stories and enlightening explanations, of ushering us back through more than 220 years of the McRaven Home’s history.By all means, go! This is an experience that promises to please...!
Actors and actresses worked hard to make the experience a good one. It was short, but we did have a door close on its own a cabinet door in the little girls room...it was kinda funny cause everyone just acted like nothing happen and my wife was looking the other direction. Then at the end the gift shop lady asked if anything happened and everyone was like nope...I then said ok am I the only one that saw the cabinet door close? Then everyone laughed and was like OH yeah that did happen!, my wife was like what??? Lol
Had great time! So much history and definitely feels creepy. Tour guide Stephen was very knowledgeable. I want to come back for the ghost tour!
Went on the history tour at 1:00 pm which was led by Danny. Very informative and great tour. Returned for the 7:00 pm ghost tour led by Daniel. Thoroughly enjoyed both tours. Learned so much about the house and the past owners. ****
Got to take both the history tour and haunted tour and they were both great! I personally preferred the history tour with Stephen, we got lucky with my boyfriend and I bring the only people on the tour. Stephen was very informative and really took his time, witch was super nice! Got to take pictures and I caught an orb taking the history tour. What’s cool about it is I got a live picture so I was able to determine that it came out of no where. Unfortunately I didn’t release till we left. Big thumbs up to Stephen and Daniel for telling the amazing history!
Shawn (sp) gave a delightful tour. What an interesting home. We didnt experience anything paranormal but it was still very enjoyable.
If youre into paranormal stuff, then here ya go. Really cool spot. My sister was a tour guide there years ago, and its just as haunted now as back then.
John, our tour guide, was excellent beyond my words. To our thinking this was the best tour of the mansion homes.
My daughter & I tremendously enjoy history & learned a lot. It was fascinating & a must see in my opinion. These gems are rare & I’m thrilled someone cares enough to try & keep these old homes up. Fascinating & I would have paid more to see it.
We did the candlelight tour....Great cast tells a haunting history!!
The McRaven Tour Home doesnt open until noon on Sundays so my husband and I were unable to actually see it. Other pictures I had seen online were a little misleading, I thought the house itself could be seen from the road but I was wrong.
Informative tour with very knowledgeable guide Caitlyn. Saw many period items, some owned by various owners/residents of the home. Saw the 300+ year old magnolia tree. Great tour!
My husband and I had a great time on the ghost tour. Jessica is an excellent guide!
First of all I want to say that the haunted ghost tour guide was very good at his job! He walked us through the history before the investigation begins. Once again, great job! Now, once we got to the investigation, it was absolutely horrible! I’ve been on several paranormal investigations which involved tour guides, but this was heart breaking. To start it off, we had to sit in the floor! COVID-19 is alive and well! And yes, it can be contracted by the bottom of someone shoe. Facts! This was nasty and the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever experienced. I’m not trying to knock what they’re doing, but I’m hoping to shed light on the things they shouldn’t do. Sitting in the floor is not safe! Secondly, I noticed that the tour guide was trying to make ppl participate in speaking out loud in trying to communicate with the spirits. I understand the techniques, but not everyone feels comfortable speaking in a room full of ppl. This causes discomfort and uneasiness. Now let me go back to the COVID-19 risk again. They were providing snacks and beverages for everyone, but they just left the food out to be exposed to germs and bacteria. One man was coughing over the table, no face mask. Ppl were touching the exposed food, no gloves. Ppl were digging in the cooler, no gloves. This all may sound like I’m just trying to bash the staff at the Mcraven house, but I’m not. I’m in hopes things will change for the best. Have the staff pass out food and beverages with gloves and face mask on. Let investigators free roam. Split them up of course, but let them investigate half their time on the lower level and then swap the groups up halfway in between. I do believe there are spirits roaming, but I couldn’t stay to get evidence of it. I left in the middle of the “investigation”. I have been everywhere from Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum to Waverly Hills Sanatorium. No, I wasn’t expecting it to be as gut wrenching as these types of places, but I was expecting it to be more protective of ppls health and let investigators investigate.
We had a great time on the ghost tour. Jessica was a great tour guide.
Pretty cool stop for some local history.
We visited during a small reenactment. My little one was able to light the cannon! We only toured the grounds, not the home. The staff we talked with was informative & gracious. I thought the wrought iron gate was interesting for its uniqueness.8
The home is well preserved. Our tour guide Emily was very informative. Her welcoming personality made this a pleasant experience. We learned a great deal about the time periods during which the house was built, Vicksburgs history, and other fun facts. Im glad we decided to stop by. We did not have any encounters but we plan to visit again.
Just had a great tour on the history with Steven, such an interesting place!
This was a wonderful experience! Our tour guide Daniel was extremely knowledgeable about the property and was also very helpful. This tour is well worth seeing!
Took the tour 3/10/20. Enjoyed hearing the history. Daniel was an amazing guide!! And Ms Mary let us know her presence. Will be back one day!!!
A must-do when you go to Vicksburg. Lovely grounds and home, one of the oldest structures standing in Mississippi, 1797. Very nice tour guides, and they let you ask questions. We want to go back and do the ghost investigation! We did the History tour and the Haunted tour.
Great tour & the guide was fabulous! Even the kids (9 & 10) enjoyed it.
Daniel was an excellent tour guide, very unusual and beautiful house and a very informative tour. Would highly recommend it! As quaint as it is macabre.
What a blast!! And my sister and I had two spookies touch us!! No fooling!!!! The actors were very good! My only critique is the lighting with the stairs -- I have astigmatism and the lanterns they use are LED, which do more harm than good for people like me. It is still DEFINITELY worth the money!!
The McRaven Tour Home was great! Nikki the tour guide answered all of our questions without hesitation and we even had a spirit interact with us. Highly recommended!
Beautiful preserved Southern home with a fascinating history. John, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and I learnt a lot about the way of life during the Civil War from the information he passed on. Although I did not see any ghosts, I can imagine how many spirits must roam this home. Well worth a visit.
Our tour guide Sean was fantastic!
Full of mystery and authentically furnishings. You can feel the time warp around it.
Loved it!! Dani(Rhonda) was awesome. She answered questions and talked with us about visiting Vicksburg and where to eat. Lots to see. Ms Mary was really busy trying to close the door to hide her personal items.
Jessica our guide did an awesome job explaining and sharing the story of McRaven Home.
A bit cheesy but good fun all the same. Listen closely and you’ll learn some things about the area and its historical significance.
Daniel was a great tour guide, very informative tour. 10/10 would visit again, it is a marvel in historic preservation and it is a quaint as it is macabre.
Fascinating building with three time frames and original possessions intact, incredible tour guide. Dont miss it! Were so glad we did it.
Went to the McRaven home for a tour and to our surprise we were the only ones there. Our tour guide Nikki was very friendly and knowledgeable about the property. It truly is a time capsule of construction practices through the eras. The antiques were beautiful. My husband also enjoyed sharing his historical knowledge. Too bad we werent able to make it back the next day for the reenactment. We would have loved that. We definitely recommend this tour for anyone visiting Vicksburg.
Very cool. Hopefully youll have a good group. Ours had too many giggling females. We may go again another time and hope for a better group. Awesome house. Creepy. Cool stories.
This is a must see in Vicksburg and I captured orbs in 2 of the videos I took!!! Thanks for the personal tour
This tour was outstanding, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I learned more at this location than I did at any other place in vicksburg. We are leaving town before the ghost tours or we would be back to take it as well. I made sure not to leave without a t shirt for my fiance and myself.
This is the best tour Ive been on. I certainly recommend this to anyone from Vicksburg as the history of McRaven is specific to the history and founding of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The tour guide, John, was exceptional! At night you can take a ghost tour rather than the historical tour thats offered in the daytime. The daytime rate to tour is $15.00 per person. It is well worth the cost. Thank you McRaven and staff. Its a memory and experience I will forever remember.
Our guide was very well informed...We enjoyed the experience, definitely go back
Very interesting and educational! We loved our visit!
The McRaven home tour offers a substantial amount of history delivered through entertaining storytelling. We took the haunted tour in which a tour guide, dressed in period attire, took us through the various rooms of the home which were built during different historical periods. The stories were more than just ghost stories because they incorporated historical information without overwhelming the guests. The rooms are also beautifully decorated, and we left feeling that the experience was well worth the cost of admission. Considered to be the most haunted house in Mississippi, a tour of the McRaven House is a worthwhile experience when visiting Vicksburg. Nikki was an amazing! Great tour!
John took us through the House. He knew every detail. It was amazing. Mary even said hello to us. So many wonderful artifacts. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you John from the California couple.
First, our guide was Amber Lyn, and she was wonderful! Very knowledgeable, and happy to answer all questions. We did have strange happenings at the house. A door in the parlour opened, and a cabinet door in Marys room kept trying to close. Also, I kept thinking I heard another tour group somewhere else in the house. It turned out we were the only group there (4 people including Amber Lyn). I mentioned it to my skeptic husband after we left, and he admitted he had also thought another group was in the house with us.Haunted stuff aside, the history of the house is fascinating. If you get a chance to visit, I highly recommend that you go.
I dont believe in ghost and this didnt change my mind....BUT....it was fascinating, fun, and creepy as hell. Cudos to Daniel. Great story teller.
Very informative and our tour guide was wonderful!
Daniel was a great host
Yo, that Daniel tho...hot stuff. Plus he gave a great tour
First toured McRaven about 15 or 20 years ago. Just took the tour again yesterday. Loved it! We live in Vicksburg, so when we have guests with limited time we have a hard time deciding which of the many attractions to show. Now McRaven will definitely be a main attraction! It is a historical gem.
Felt uncomfortable while there my daughter took pictures, and we looked at them later we could see orbs floating around in the rooms freaky!!!
Great place! our tour guide Emily, made everything into a interesting story!
Kylie and John were really nice, honest they were in very good detail. They were nice and new all the answer to all our questions. I loved the McRaven tour, the old pictures and furniture. It was so fun and my family had a very nice and wonderful time.
Katline and Andrew were excellent guides for history and ghosts
One of the best pre civil war homes with sizzle
Just finished our tour. So much history. Thank you Daniel for your knowledge. Love the stories!!
We went there today with Daniel as our guide - he was great! I would definitely go back!! There is a lot of crazy energy there!!
Loved the tour, the home and the guides. Definitely will go back and highly recommend
Me, my wife & son and his friend who are both 14 years old went to the McRaven Tour Home in Vicksburg, John was our tour guide and he was an exceptional guide that told us all about the house it was an interesting tour, learning all the history. I believe in the paranormal I have even seen them before but here at this home I could not believe a spirit pressed on my shoulder & blew in my ear it scared me so bad I almost ran out the room,me who is never afraid got the chills this time. I have never been touched by a ghost but I did this day 4/20/2019. Exceptional place to go
Daniel was amazing! We enjoyed it.
I wanted to thank the tour staff for an awesome, informative evening. The stories of the history of both the home and Vicksburg were interesting and just the right amount of spooky for my kids.
Its a wonderful history lesson. It had a charged atmosphere and the staff was friendly.
It was a great experience on both tours! Nikki and Daniel were great guides!
Excellent tour guide VERY informative. Best so far in Vicksburg.
This was a really awesome experience and our tour guide Kaitlyn was amazing! I would definitely go back!!
Our tour guide was really amazing. I had my son with me & hes not too big into history, but our guide put a hint of humor in the history. My son loved it. I really enjoyed the house and the grounds. Kiley was a great guide, she was very well spoken and was good at keeping my son interested. 10/10. Will have to stop by again next time we are in town.
Great job Daniel!
Cool and creepy. Well worth the visit!
I highly recommended a guided tour of this beautiful mansion. Jefferson, the name of our our guide, was very knowledgeable and really fun to walk with. The upstairs master bedroom above the Foyer is so haunted!! Will recommend as often as I can!!
I went and took the tour. I loved it and Daniel that did our tour was awesome. He really knew his history!
Authentic historical house. Definitely worth checking out.
$15 per adult is too much but a great tour. You park at the bottom of the house and walk up a path to the door. Our guide was great. I recommend if you like history or old houses. We went right after Christmas so decorations were up and it was cold and quiet. We got a tour right away. It was memorable. We even witnessed ghost activity! I dont know if a young kid would like the tour, but adults will.
The guides are knowledgeable and make the tour interesting!
Sooo worth it!!! Loved having the opportunity to tour the home and grounds. Our tour guide was awesome - very knowledgeable and interactive. We even had a supernatural encounter with one of the ghosts and got a good scare out of it. Kid friendly during the day, would be interesting in visiting the night/ghost tours. THANK YOU FOR LETTING US TOUR!!! Will be visiting again :)
The haunted tour was great! We even got to meet Mrs. Mary....great history in a beautiful house. Caught a couple of orbs in the pictures. The costume of our guide was great. I loved the experience, I reccomend McRaven to anybody who visits Vicksburg!
We took the haunted house tour. My family and me had a blast. The staff was great. The stories really held your interest. The McRaven House is spooky at night. Great tour.
You park at the bottom of the house and walk up the brick path to the door where staff greets you. We did the history tour and went back later for the haunted tour. Our guide was great very friendly and knowledgeable. We got a tour right away. It was memorable to say the least. Highly recommend stopping and taking a tour.
Loved the history of this house. Tour was awesome. I would recommend this place to everyone who is visiting Vicksburg.
This was the greatest experience I have ever had! My husband and I enjoyed every second of our tour!! We can not wait for our next trip!!!
This home and tour were beyond amazing!! Whether you are interested in the history or the paranormal, you will enjoy every moment!!
Started off the tour by getting scratched by something unknown and unexplained. The history behind this house is amazing and the paranormal activity is a bonus. A true haunted house. I loved ir!
Go take this tour! My husband and I took the haunted tour and it was so much fun! The tour guides were so informative and took their time. They answered any questions we had and just told story after story. The house by itself is something to see, even without all the ghost stories and history. But if youre into history and ghosts, this is definitely the tour for you.
Had the most amazing time and experiences. Brittany was so knowledgeable and polite and a pleasure to listen to. I could have listened to her talk all night long. I highly recommend going for yourself and seeing the Mcraven Mansion. Its truly an amazing place!
This was a very interesting tour and our tour guide Brittany was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and friendly. I will definitely be back for a ghost tour in the future! If you are into history or architecture, this is the best place to visit!
We did the tour first had dinner- then the haunted tour later. Super impressed with the tour! We had the most friendly knowledgeable guide ever- she was super sweet. The haunted tour guide- no! She used weird voices and touching and stuff! I was more afraid of her the paranormal. Words like “ come my child” while touching their face- um no! I’d do it again defiantly - but hopefully not with her!
