Its just a mound of dirt with a view into the canyon.Evil Knievel was awesome though!I mean who in there right mind would look at this River/Canyon and think.... I want to jump that? What a brave man!
Oh my goodness, this was an exciting stop on our trip to southern Idaho. My husband was so looking forward to this and he walked up the hill that Evel Knievel rode up on. He was very excited. Very very windy that day so we didnt hang around too long. Not that there was a lot to see, but it was just exciting that Evel Knievel had been there. Highly recommend!
Love this spot. Running up the over look is a great cardio enhancer. Watching the sunrise or sunset is spectacular too.
We got some advice from the guards at the Shoshone Falls how to actually drive right to this spot on the back roads. I thought it was just cool to say we have been here. The views are spectacular. I wish I could have seen Eval really take off. Too bad the parachute released too early. I think we may have made it across to the other side....no parachute needed. ha haa!
Omgosh! So far one of the highlights our 1st trip to southern Idaho! My husband was elated. He walked to the top of the hill. Very very windy that day but he just had to walk to the top! It was so much fun.
It was cool to see! They didnt have a plaque or anything which is why Ive given it 3 stars. But it was fun! It was super windy when we went, so that made it even more cool. Imagining the crazy stunt that happened there.
Its cool that the launch point was preserved as a piece of history. Evels stunts happened when I was too young to grasp what was going on, so I was glad to learn the details now!
Search for 2501 Hankins Dr. N and keep going till the road ends. A quarter-mile dirt road to the left takes you right to the ramp. Really enjoyed reliving an exciting old memory of Evels jump.
The jump site itself isnt much to see but the walk to it is fabulous. The scenery of the canyon and the tranquility of the country atmosphere (while it lasts) is amazing. Unfortunately home construction is starting soon and some of that scenery will be gone. Its about a mile walk from the parking lot but its an easy walk on an asphalt walking path. Stay on the path though because both sides are private property.
Amazing! Hard to find, we had to ask the lady at toll booth at Shoshone Falls for driving directions. Found it right away then! Worth the trip....and what a view! Google maps needs to get this location updated!! (The State just recently purchased the site from private parties) Absolutely no complaints!!!!
My photos from 1974, as a dumb college kid, with poor quality Kodak camera, but I was across the canyon. I saw launch, parachute come out, Evil fall to shore, rescue boat pick him up, and head down river. September 8, 1974. The appearance of a telephoto lens is actually me putting my camera up to my binoculars eyepiece hoping for the best.
Its kinda cool if you know the Evel Knievel story. You can basically drive right to the place, although Google maps wants you to walk.....
Place of history, but not much to look at. The canyon as always has a lot of majestic beauty though.!
Amazing views, and this guy was crazy. Insane to think someone launched themselves off this ramp across the canyon!
Cool place to go if you are in the area site seeing
Husband was the happiest man getting to see this.
The spot that Evel Knievel attempted to jump the canyon. Its a very fun walk trail to get out to the spot, well worth it for sure to see the history in front of you ... Not to mention you can climb to the top of the hill and see what he saw before he left over the edge.
Its kind of cool if your hiking on the trail by it. I wouldnt go out of my way to see it. Just a mound of dirt with a plaque on it.
Not much to see, its a pile of dirt. Just kind of one of those things worth seeing just so you can say youve been there.
It is great to have this piece of history still standing. But this landmark is on private property and the owner has requested several times he doesnt want people traipsing throght it for a glimpse of the dirt ramp.
Well worth the walk! Such a beautiful area and a different vantage point for the canyon.
This was so fun to go see. It was a little hard to find, but worth it!!
I remember watching this jump as a kid, so I was amazed that it is around still. Its a great side trip from visiting Twin to stop by and share some history with the family.
This place is great for the view at the top. The mound itself isnt that good looking, but it is the amazing history around the place and what happened there that make it worth traveling to.
Cool little piece of history, well kept and clean. Great place for roasting after a morning exercise.
Very cool but it would have been nice to see more information at the site.
Nice paved trail to get you to the launch site, with views of Pillar Falls.
We didnt realize you could drive to it... We walked 2 miles one way on a very hot day. Better signage and info for visitors.
Great place to visit
Hard to find not much to see.
The beauty is truely amazing. Well kept secret.
Absolutely fantastic place to visit!!! First one gets to see what Evel Knievel built to attempt to go across the canyon and then there is a WONDERFUL trail to see the beautiful canyon and Shoshone Falls. This is a must visit site!
It was a little hard to find! Google Maps takes you on a little Goose Chase! But after asking a Local, I was pointed in the right direction! They dont like to advertise the access to it, due to surronding private properies. It was a great experience though!
Cool place to visit and wonder what Evel Knievel was thinking when he said he would jump the canyon.
It was ok
Excel tried to jump snake river. Twinn Falls is an interesting area.
It is a 1.3 mile hike from the Shoshone Falls State Park parking lot. The monument itself is interesting but the views are the best part. There is also an informative sign at the monument that talks about the jump and Evel Knievel. Make sure to bring a water bottle if you hike to the monument.
Its a great trail to run, walk, ride your bike. Beautiful views and quiet.
This site could be developed so more people could enjoy it. There is an empty field and fences in front of the part that could be a parking lot. The only other way is to walk the trail. There is no mention of the site that I saw. It is if the town was not aware that the Smithsonian channel is showing the site on Aerial America Idaho. We attempted to find the site and had to go to the Welcome Center for a map to the site. It was a map to the near by falls and the staff wrote directions on the falls map for us. GPS kept taking us on routes a car couldnt get to.
Nice walk, if you start from Shoshone Falls its very steep. If you go off of pole line road its easier. Both are over a mile. Not alot to see, just a dirt hill with a sign. But the trail is beautiful canyon views and Shoshone Falls
Great trail for a casual stroll! Beautiful scenery
It was quite a trail hike but well worth it.
Lots of potential here once the city has money to do something with it. Great views of the canyon. Midpoint between trailhead and Shoshone falls.
Nice sign with information. Big dirt hill for running up and down. Road to drive there isnt in best condition. Can also reach it walking on nice trail.
Beautiful trails and river! Lots of wildlife.
Very cool place to visit.
What a blast ! I sure would like to know what happened to the Michigan Bickers, we were pepper sprayed then taken to jail . But in Twin Falls, the People and Police were as nice as could be, two thumbs up for Twin Falls Idaho ! I love that place, made front page alongside of Evel Knievel when some maniac in a jeep past our campsite, the Jeep had a Corvette Engine . flipped over backwards at the top of a huge steep hill, I was lucky, a guy from Mass. was taken into surgery, his spleen was removed . Two Others were knocked out when they got on the back of the jeep just as he pulled a wheelie . This was at a fire where people would douse the back wheels of there bikes in Gasoline, we left after a guy and his bike were doused in Gas, jumped and exploded, but everyone there was fearless and put him out, no damage, the bike looked a bit toast . One hell of a time, That Rocket almost hit us, we were on the cliff, screaming at Evel not to get out, he almost did ! Great Time .More should Post, a beer truck was stopped, all beer was passed out to all the maniacs camped by the Falls . how many are still alive ? Misfit Nation, Bickers wore Colors and there were no fights !
They have a amazing trail that is wheelchair friendly that leads to the ramp and past other picture perfect views, take water to drink it is a long paved trail.
Dont follow Google maps. Its ok no big deal.
Life can be great!!
Just seeing where he made history was way cool. Im a big fan.
Fun little walk. My grandson (15) loved it!! Very interesting.
Beautiful area!
Great place to take the kids...everyone loves Evel Kenivel
Out in the middle of a community. Sadly I think it is mostly forgotten. But a fun trivia story.
It is a mile or so walk from the closest parking lot. But the path is new asphalt and is an easy walk to the site. Do keep pets on a leash as in places it is a straight drop to the bottom.
The only thing left is the dirt stage but still an interesting place in history.
Great view of the Snake River and canyon ftom the top of the jump. Good photos of the bridge, South Hills, and valley scenery in the distance. The access road was recently closed, but may reopen for better access to families.
Awesome historcal place
Just a mound of dirt.View of Shoshone Falls was worth the hike. And the only reason Im not giving it a 1 star
Loved it
An amazing experience
Currently accessible via Shoshone Falls trail however, hopefully, within the next year (2017), the trail will be completed from Community Center Twin Falls and heading east all the way to Shoshone Falls. (The trail is complete, you can now go on the trail from visitors center to Shoshone Falls past Evil Knievel’s ramp, great job MaVTEC)
Needs more green! But the walk was great.
Very interesting bit of Modern History.
Interesting history and nice views, but it’s basically a mound of dirt. Go to Shoshone Falls a little farther down the path.
Its a long walk but worth it!
This is the place where Evel attempted the jump...or rather the rocket bike fly over the canyon.
Great hiking/biking trail from Shoshone Falls along the canyon rim.
Epic views
Evel was a childhood legend, icon, and hero. The fact you have to do a 3 mile round trip hike makes the site even better.
Beautiful! I wish I could have seen him jump. It is massive!!!
Very cool place to visit
We need a restroom by Evil Knievel,..I hope they can build one.
History attempted but unfortunately not completed due to a mechanical malfunction not of Bobby Knievels doing, as it was reported. Evel was a total badass and needed a wheelbarrow to carry his balls around in! Much respect to the man who single-handedly created extreme sports. Although he passed away in 2007, he is still missed tremendously. Rest in peace, Robert Craig Evel Knievel. Still riding a Harley-Davidson XR-750 and still impressing everyone in Heaven True American Hero!
Amazing to stand on a piece of Knievel history
Fun piece of history. Enjoyable trail
Picturesque. Amazing to look across the canyon and think of jumping it.
Love the new path to Knievels jump!
Great nostalgic history
Beautiful walking trail with gorgeous views.
Great walking trail great sights!
Different...like wow cool
Loved it
So much fun out here walking around
