I forgot how beautiful and peaceful Oxley Nature trails are. I actually planned another hike here next week. Whats great about these trails is they are short and flat so any skill level can go including children. Go as far as you want, the escape route is just around the corner.
Various environments to trek through (woodland, lake, marsh.) Not unusual to spot wildlife. We glimpsed a red headed woodpecker, a heron, a ribbon snake, a duck, and some egrets. Ive previously seen deer and once a red fox. Trails can be confusing. I havent found their maps the best. That said, its well worth a look. Empty your bladder first because you wont find an abundance of potties in the woods!
Very sweet and informative woman at the front desk and she gave us advice and recommendations for trails and places to see some beautiful sights.
Volunteer and staff are very helpful. Center is nice, very interesting. Trails are well maintained and marked. Maps are very good, plenty of wildlife for the whole family.
There are lots of different trails and nature to see. Its beautiful! I was thankful for the info center and gift shop. They had maps.
So many small connected trails let you really customize your hike! The terrain is flat, but with the fields, bog, lake, and forest it is still varied. The boardwalk over the bog and observation tower overlooking the lake were so great for kids. Almost all the trails are unpaved, but many are graveled and/or packed enough to work well for strollers, especially jogging ones. The Woodpecker trail is particularly low-lying and prone to being muddy, so thats one is not very stroller-friendly.The nature center has restrooms, exhibits, and a shop. The staff helped guide us to the most kid-friendly spots. We were able to see so many kinds of wildlife even on a short hike! Fawns, orb weavers, herons, egrets, turtles, and more!
Love this place! Its my go to to relax and let nature be my medication.
Great trails, usually quiet. Nice peaceful place to get away for a bit.
Beautiful park. More like 3.5 stars because the amount of trash everywhere is a disgrace. Also tons of Gypsy moth nests which are terrible for the trees. EDIT - 2.5 is more like it considering the drug addicts I just saw in the pavilion
Very nice trails. Easy relaxing hiking
The trails were great. We didnt get to as many trails as we wouldve liked due to this being a last-minute decision and not having the correct shoes for the terrain but the kids still enjoyed running around in nature. The Nature Center provides a great area for children to learn about the park. We like museums and our kids loved drawing pictures.
Wonderful place. The two volunteers were so helpful and I voting they assisted in what trails were best and what was manageable in the cold and muddy conditions that mother nature has developed and helped map it all out for us. The bees were cool to see with the kiddo as well.
I love Oxley. I’ve loved it since I was a child. Oxley Nature Center is a phenomenal location for hiking, classes, and just generally appreciating the outdoors. It is one of the most relaxing places to be. Its insane that you can feel like youre in the middle of the wilderness but still inside the city. Also, it’s massive! “804 acres of property with almost 11 miles of walking trails.” There are a lot of trails everywhere and the scenery is better than expected. I’ve never gone and not seen some sort of wildlife – deer, beavers, armadillos, owls, storks, etc. There are easy trails, medium trails, difficult trails, etc. You can walk for hours, should you choose. The trails are shaded so summer time hikes arent going to be too hard on you. This places a hidden gem in the Tulsa area. The nature center itself is nice. They offer classes and guided hikes for kids. There are a lot of benches to go sit and relax, a beautiful lake to watch the sunset, and all sorts of different biomes! You’ve got swampy wetlands, grasslands, forest, a river (bird creek) – Oxley has really got it all. This place deserves a visit and your attention. They definitely need more support – more people in Tulsa need to visit this location! Get it popular! It’s really, truly an absolutely wonderful place to be. You can be alone with nature, and feel down to earth. Or bring some friends! Great trails for jogging as well, if you’re a runner. Extremely educational.
It felt like we were way out of the city. There were many trails to choose from, and a nice indoor area to see some cool animals. We took a stroller and some of the trails are very bumpy, so be sure to stick to the paved ones.
Great place to hike.. No pokemon go stops
Beautiful trails and an informative visitors center w/helpful volunteers and staff. Some of the trails are a bit secluded and you many even see a few deer as I did! This place is a true Tulsa gem and must see!
Went with a field trip. It had been raining but we had a great hike. The inside of the center is interesting. We didn’t see any animals, our group was too noisy, but we enjoyed seeing the bees and checking out the things inside the nature center. Looking forward to visiting again in the spring.
Ive been going to Oxley for more than 30 years. Its nicer than its ever been and worth a visit.
Great trails for hiking with the family
Oxley is a great place with the right weather. Lots of life and tails. It can feel like tot are alone or there even though there is the occasional other visitor. Close but quiet. You really cant rate nature. However, for this visit, some of the trails were a bit flooded and muddy and un like usual, no one let us know so we ended up cutting through rough thorny brush.
The nature center itself is nice. Its pretty small but I wasnt expecting some large facility though. Its got some neat displays and their beehive is pretty cool. There are a lot of trails behind this place and the scenery is better than expected. The trails are shaded so summer time hikes arent going to be too hard on you. If youre into nature there are a decent amount of plants and animals to see along the way. Id recommend this to anyone in the Tulsa area that wants a new place to hike
Had a great time here. The hiking was very peaceful. Saw a HUGE great blue heron.
Its always an adventure hiking with the kids... Lots of things to discover..
Great place to go walk in the woods with no bikes or dogs.
Cool place to walk around and explore. Their are plenty of different trails to go on.Inside the nature center there are quite a few exhibits to read and understand as well as many animal pelts. There is also a guide inside for any questions.
Wonderful nature center and beautiful park. Staff and volunteers alike are passionate, fun people with lots to share. A must-visit in Tulsa!
This place is great!
Lovely trails and the center was nice. Friendly staff. They have wonderful nature books for sale in the gift shop.
Excellent place to walk through and see nature that has not been to Disturbed. Weve been out there a few times cleaning up peoples deposits that they leave us but we want to keep it clean and wonderful for other people to enjoy
Lovely place to go walking and sight seeing
Lots of trails! Saw four deer on one trail.
Although small, very fun place to explore with others. Had fun time here and got some nice photos as well.
This places a hidden gem in the Tulsa areaMy three and five year old boys and I loved it! Just the perfect size for me and my kids lots of walking trails that cover a small area. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Good place to go to get away
One of my absolute favorite places to visit in Tulsa Oklahoma. Larg brown bears, they also have a super cool beehive that everyone needs to check out
Went on the full moon hike this month it was great!
Great Nature Trails our family is excited to be here!
Oxley is one of my happy places. Its kind of amazing that you can be completely alone and feel like youre in the middle of the wilderness but still technically be inside the city. And its free! The last time I went, I saw a group of five deer, an armadillo, and a lot of evidence of beavers. They also have a decent bathroom, a water fountain, an educational shelter, an observation tower, and a building with some educational exhibits. Its also nice that the trails are open pretty late, even after the building closes. My only minor complaints are that the bee colony is so close to the back door, and there isnt any obvious signage when a trail is flooded.
Was alright trails didnt see one bit of wild life tho
Always a nice place to get out and take a walk on the woods. Everytime I come out here I see something cool.
First one out after it snowed...just beautiful
Friendly people and great to stop at, nice gift shop. Five stars if they were to do more than a regular mower wide path to the bench sitting under the tree. That part doesnt look too welcoming. Has some trails that would look great to hike through. We went after it rained so they did mentioned it would be probably too muddy.
Lots of wildlife, even though spring hasnt started yet
Beautiful even before spring! Excellent facilities!
Quiet little lakefront nature center in Mohawk Park. New to me, but hadnt been there for 60 years!
Great place for alone or family
Pretty place but horrible staff. We went here for a field trip and the kids got yelled at for doing nothing. The mean old ladies here ruin the whole trip. You’d think working at a nature center would relax you but apparently not.
Great hiking trails
Beehive is awesome!
Nice hiking, some trails get totally flooded if rainy
Wonderful, well-kept nature trails! Great interactive educational exhibits. Always a peaceful, chirping walk thro woodlands, pond life, birds galore & so much more. Nice gift shop!
Great place to take a walk
Did one of the monthly child and caregiver class. Very informative information for the littles. Walk at end was nice. Trails are very well marked. Center itself has looks to explore, touch, and hear.
A wonderful place to commune with nature .
My husband and I love going there to feed the fish and turtles.. We love going on the nature walks. It is so peaceful out there.
Love it we go several times a year
My sons school had field trip here & I was one of the chaperones. The kids absolutely loved there! Parking is limited but doable by parking alongside the road as you come in. The building is filled with nature facts & exhibits, the kids favorite was definitely the bees! Getting some fish food from the machine is highly recommended, lol, the kids had a blast watching the fish, turtles, & geese jump for the food. The trails are a little confusing but we found our way. It had rained & one of the trails was completely mud, but there were plenty of other trails to choose. We saw deer, snakes, flowers, ponds, birds galore, & fish. Definitely a fun day out in nature!
Great variety of environs, well kept paths and a well staffed center
After going to Turkey Mountain for several years this little hiking spot is A good change. When you first get there there’s a building that is the nature preserve and inside they have a lot of fun interactive activities in this place for kids. my son who is almost 3 years old loved it and from that nature preserve you can go to several different trails the whole area is awesome very well kid kept you can tell that they care about it.
Good place to be alone and experience nature.
Had a great time! The trails are fairly well kept, marked, and very shady, and there were lots of them! We saw lots of wildlife and butterflies! Great place for short hikes, or you could go for hours!! Totally recommend!
Fun trails
Absolutely beautiful park to hike or take photos!
Is it a nice hike but when its tick season be where.
It is a fun and beautiful place.
Always a wonderful experience. Tread lightly and dont be too loud - you dont want to scare away the wildlife. The full moon walks are fantastic!
Worth Visiting and Supporting!
Going back for pics soon. This is a wonderful quiet place for nature lovers. Amazingly, I dont think a lot of people know of it because its never packed with people like most other outdoor nature centers that offer trails and such!
Good place to take a nature walk
I got to chaperone my sons field trip here and its amazing!
A great place to take the family for some exploring
What a great place, especially this time of year. No flys, or ticks, nice weather, and beautiful spring blooms.
Beautiful trails with abundant wildlife. We saw deer while going on our adventure. The trails are wide enough for two to walk side by side in some places but others one can barely pass by without brushing against branches, importance of that later. There is a pond, swamp, field, and wooded area to look through. Bring bugs pray when you decide to go. This would normally be obvious, but we forgot ours and created quite the tick collection. Bug spray is not always necessary unless passing through brush...which we did. All in all a good trip, just dont Foret the bug spray like I did.
Love this place
A great place to walk trails and see deer, opposums, raccoons, blue herons, Canada geese and lots of other birds and animals. The Nature Center building has informative displays, trail maps, a gift shop, and a place to sit and watch wildlife from indoors. The people there are friendly and helpful. A fun place to take the family.
Cool place. Found a Caterpillar.
I love this place. Everything is beautiful, wildlife abounds. Check it out if you love nature!!
When you go here you just lose track of time and feel totally relaxed. Walk a few trails, watch the wildlife and identify some birds. Also the employees here are AWESOME and very helpful. A+ place!
Decent trails to take walks or run in.
For being free to the public this place is a great. The staff was super informative and very nice. Great place to go and clear your mind or for a day date or to take the family to.
