Want to watch a movie with your friends during the pandemic? Rent a screen at The Loft! We recently did this with a group of friends and it was great! Setting it up was easy, staff was great to work with, reasonable safety protocols in place, and if you split it with everybody, the cost is reasonable. Great way to support a local business and do something fun during the pandemic.

We rented Screen 1 last night for a small group of cousins to watch an old Bogart and Hepburn movie. The theatre was spotless, the employees were wonderful, everyone practiced social distancing and mask wearing. I took some snacks and we bought wine and popcorn at the concession counter. So fun and different, all of us enjoyed every minute. Thanks for great entertaining idea! We love The Loft!

The Loft is a Tucson treasure that sadly, many local Tucsonans take for granted. Where else can you grab local eats and drinks and watch the latest, cutting edge films. Not to mention their virtual reality experiences! Nowhere else but The Loft I tells ya.

Showing older and Indy movies normally, they also host a number of events like sing a longs, director Q&As, etc. They have lots of documentaries and local stuff and foreign and film festival items.Beautiful theatres, very comfy. The Loft is an oasis in a desert of thoughtless entertainment. Youll always find some form of community involvement because they ARE the community. Independent movies, theme nights, film festivals, free screening in the park, documentaries, sing a longs, movies with live accompanied orchestral, costume contests without it being Halloween, free kids movies during the summer, concessions from local businesses. I could go on and on. They show Labyrinth and Princess Bride once a year for the love of God, do I have to say anymore? Because they love our community they stayed closed during the pandemic and opted to offer movies via streaming, they just recently opened to show outdoor screening only ( I went to watch Peewees Big Adventure. Ya, I know). If they arent screening something thought provoking, or an old B movie, or cult classic, or Live action Rocky Horror Picture show, its something equally as heartfelt and intentional. It is a community funded theater and that shows in everything they do. The movie goers are just as interesting and diverse and the films they show. It truly is a privilege to have The Loft to enjoy and call my own.

The loft has always been a staple of my movie going experiences in Tucson. Its a classic theater and originally the largest Tucson. I enjoy many of their movies. I keep looking to their monthly newsletter new and interesting to choose what I might like to watch. I also appreciate that they have major Motion Picture releases occasionally, along with the documentaries, Classics, foreign films and other unusual films that are their bread and butter The new 70 mm projection system in theater 1 is amazing. Two of their three theaters are wheelchair accessible, and I appreciate being able to track which movies are in which theater on their website before I go there. I enjoy eating the Frescas pizza slices that they sell in the evenings.

A classic - geared toward the dedicated cinephile This small, older, unique theater brings both off-the-beaten-path independent, foreign, short and quality popular films to a Tucson that doesnt appreciate it enough. It was my guilty pleasure in college 30 years ago as Id use my lunch money to slip away between classes to enjoy a matinee. I dont have to sneak away or skip lunch anymore, but I sure do love an afternoon movie at the Loft.Over the years, this non-profit arthouse theater has expanded their portfolio by organizing gatherings, adding club memberships, supporting special events, regularly showing science and journalism films, sing alongs and Oscar watching parties, and the Loft Film Festival. I dont need an excuse to go, but Im happy that every time I do, Im supporting independent film and keeping this treasure in Tucson.

It consists of three theaters. The main theater has recently been updated and is comfortable with excellent viewing and sound. The upstairs theater show some wear and tear. Its smaller but still an enjoyable venue. The one negative side is there is no sound barrier from the downstairs area, so when the large theater empties out or open for a show, you can hear the patrons downstairs. Prices are good and they serve adult beverages. They do not show new releases but a huge selection of classics, cult classics, documentaries, indie films, and weekend cartoons. A great theater that with a little more support, to continue upgrading, will get my fifth star.

I’ve been to The Loft dozens of times and usually have had a good time. A few times the audience had been so loud and obnoxious it detracted from the movie, but that just happens at public movies sometimes.Recently though I went to a Mondo Movie night for a date with my boyfriend on what appeared to be a quiet night. After getting drinks and food in an almost empty lobby, we went to sit in the theatre. We had been looking forward to this movie for a few weeks. To our surprise, the theatre was PACKED with rowdy patrons, with maybe four visible seats scattered throughout the theatre. It was a chaotic scene. When we went back to the main counter, we let the employee know that we had come to see a movie together and we weren’t able to sit together because the theatre was nearly full. They informed us they would give us our money back this time but not before making it very clear that TECHNICALLY there were still several available seats. I told them I thought they should let people know if the theatre was filling up and their answer was basically that they were giving me what I wanted so what was the problem? Clearly the problem was that I don’t want to plan a date night at a theatre weeks in advance only to be casually sold tickets to a overly-full theatre. The only thing we could have done was come earlier and found a seat somewhere before the rest of the raucous crowd showed up, but honestly that movie experience sounds miserable. It was an incredibly condescending way for that employee (Candace) to handle the situation and although I’ve had many interactions with other employees over the years (exceedingly friendly ones) this altercation left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth. I can see why some people would enjoy coming here, but I don’t think this is the kind of place I want to support anymore. After spending over $20 on snacks and drinks, the least they could do is simply give us our money back, without trying to make some kind of point about their policies and theatre seating logistics. They made it sound like this is something that could happen again, and next time they may not give our money back. No thanks. I’d rather watch a movie literally anywhere else.
