This park floods a lot, so it is full of pot holes and mud. I took my dog walking near the small pond but it was full of red algae or something that made the pond red color. I ended up going towards the west end of the park and finding a nice sandy area along the Sangamon river. There is a concrete ramp down to the beach area. The river was pretty shallow here and was perfect for letting my dog off leash. Only a few other people out. I felt pretty safe since the Springfield Park police were out walking the trails and pulling people over.

This is a very beautiful nature park. They have mudding trails, hiking trails, and a boat dock. No public restrooms. No benches. No playground. River shore walks. Lots of natural plants and animals all around. If you like hiking in pure nature this is the place. You can let your dogs run off leash here!!! That is awesome!!

I know the weather has not been good but the road in this park is hazardous. Also trucks and 4 wheelers have torn up. The signs say no atvs but I see them all the time. The other day a truck went flying around me through the mud and covered my car and windshield with mud. He thought it was funny

Riverside Park is our favorite place to let the dogs run. There they dont have to be on a leash.
