This is an amazing place if youre a nature lover. I was happy the minute I walked onto the property. There was something beautiful around every corner. Great walking trails and lots of places to sit and relax. Perfect place for pictures. I loved all the signs telling which way to go to see all things in park. Not to mention the butterfly house.... OMG!
This park is a family favorite. The seasonal plants make every trip a treat, and certain seasons will bring water fowl in with their newborns following them around in the grass. The butterfly house is small, but wonderful to see, with the individuals who run it being very kind and dedicated to it. There is plenty of wide open space to lay out for a picnic, play ball, or just run. The main trail is paved and well kept, with small play areas for the kiddos along the way. I havent been to the Japanese Stroll Garden next door yet, but Ive heard great things. If you are looking for something fun to do on a nice day, come here.
Really nice park. Very large. Only complaint is that there is no security. A row of cars I knew personally got broken into. I can understand not being able to monitor that much land consistently. Mostly clean. Highly approved park. Nice for dogs, too.
Nathaniel Greene/Close Memorial are one of my favorite greenspaces in the city. Its obvious that the caretakers really care about what theyre doing and as a result, the park is always beautiful. Its a peaceful place with lots of walking trails, but also benches in a lot of great shaded areas to sit, and a ton of just grassy areas to spread a blanket and chill out.And even in fall, the park has its own mysterious beauty as fog rises from the lake. Just gorgeous.
Very pretty and there is lots to do for the family with playgrounds everywhere and it is part of the Greenway trail. (I think thats what its called) you can rent an electric wheelchair or borrow a normal one. There is also a cool butterfly house but I suggest that you go during the spring or summer. The fall has more monarchs and cocoons. Great place to feed and watch geese and ducks too.
The park is set up perfectly with the trails and playground sets. The butterfly house is the best part for me but there is plenty of open space to walk ride bikes explore the gardens are well maintained and gorgeous. If your going through Springfield this park is definitely worth the stop. It has clean restrooms and a gift shop and conference rooms I nm needed.
The Butterfly House is so interesting and educational! The docent shares info, and there are lots of photo ops. The Park has many lovely flower beds, walking/biking trails, a lake with geese. The Japanese Stroll Garden is serene and beautiful. A fun playground, too. Lots of space to socially distance.
My daughter introduced me to this park and my goodness I cant say enough to express how beautiful this park is. It has to be one of Springfields best kept secrets. I had never even known of this park before the day she invited me to meet her and my 3 grandbabies there. It was the perfect getaway especially during covid 19.I will go back many times theres so much I havent seen. From the butterfly house, the old homestead, school and church plus the many donated gardens of flowers along the trails. A place to feed the fish in the lake. A water fountain for the children to play in and cool off. Statues playgrounds and so much more.Every inch appealing to the heart and eye.
Serene and positive environment to walk or relax. Great spot to walk alone or with others. Positive people and never any drama. Great lake and water/flower spots.
Beautiful property with multiple playgrounds for the little ones with nice trails and beautiful plants, trees and flowers to look at. Highly recommend. The Japanese stroll garden is worth your time
Beautiful park with amazing scenery. Great place and setting to do a photoshoot. Recommended
Love this park, and the amazing flower gardens! The way the seats and benches are arranged around the trail(s) makes it so walkers with physical limitations can sit down and catch their breath at various points in their walk. Lovely!
It was so lovely just to sit in my car and enjoy the afternoon sun watching the people walk/run by.
One of the best parks in Springfield! A bike trail runs through it as part of the Greenway trail system. They have a butterfly room and several small playgrounds along the trail. Tons of Pokémon stops as well if you are into that!
This park has a wide variety of botanicals and nature to see. It feels safe and is clean and well-kept (for the most part-bathrooms in the pavilion are often dirty). The pond loop in Close hooks up to the Ozarks Greenways trail system and makes it easy to get a lot of miles, if thats what youre after. By FAR the best park in Springfield and my favorite!
Love their spicy chicken sandwich. Fast and very friendly service.
This was my very first date with my boyfriend. Weve been dating for 2 months. He saved my life. I love him so much!
Beautiful park. It has many places to sit and enjoy the scenery. There are gardens and ponds and geese, there is places for children to swing, slide and run. The paths are smooth for walking, biking or skating. It has two parking places also. I cant wait to go back because this park is huge and I know I have yet to see the whole park.
I go here a lot but when I was little I would go here everyday. It made me happy when I was 4 and it still does now and I´m 10 almost 11.
This park is so beautiful and well maintained! I always appreciate the love that goes into making this park one of our top destinations for long walks!
This place has beautiful walking paths, a butterfly house, different themed gardens, an old school house and a small lake. Very nice place to walk or just relax!
This park is spacious with many unique features to stop and see, including butterfly house, botanical gardens, Japanese garden, and historic prairie village. There are also several playgrounds. Everything is pretty spread out, so come prepared to walk! The park is free including most of the “extras”; the Japanese garden does cost a few dollars. Maybe I am spoiled from living in cities and traveling so much, as I expected a little more from the place. That said, this park is an incredible gem out here in Springfield, Missouri!
Always a beautiful time at Nathanael Greene. There are a few great trails, for a variety of different occasions. There are walking trails, bike trails, and a few moderate hiking trails. In my opinion, this is one of the best parks in the Greater Springfield area. This park has playgrounds, things to climb, a butterfly house, a botanical garden—which is a must see—a great lawn, various flower gardens, a couple streams, a small lake, various memorials, and history museums. This park really does have it all! If you have not been there it is a must see, during any season. For those who play PoGo, this is the best place in Springfield to play. For those who enjoy Geocaching, this park has a few really good spots! They also have areas available to rent for parties and events and a community center that has space for meetings and indoor events as well.
Best Park I. Springfield. Most Beautiful for sure.
Pretty, nice and peaceful. What is the best thing about it is the plants. They are beautiful and they didnt have a thing to say!
Beautiful gardens, cant wait to go back in the spring
Huge park. Landscaping done by master gardeners. Huge variety of tree species. Beautiful gardens to admire as you stroll the many miles of trails throughout the park. By far the best park in town.
Ive always loved the park, its beautiful and nice to visit but there was this one rent-a-cop there today making everyones life miserable. It would be better if that jack-hole went back to Mayberry or found a good job working from home and left all the families in peace.
The Japanese garden is $4 per person and worth it if you appreciate scenery. There rest of the free park is really nice as well. Good place for a BBQ!
It so green and beautiful. Japanese Gardens were my favorite!!
Love to walk there around the lake, see turtles, fish, ducks & geese. The scenery is pretty with flowers in different places. They have nice play areas for children. Just dont appreciate people riding bikes & skateboards on walking trails.
Great outdoors! Scenery, playgrounds, butterfly pavilion, picnics. Just great.
Extremely pretty, small and nice butterfly house with an attendant to provide information. I always enjoy the Japanese stroll gardens, and was happy to explore the bigger lake for the first time a couple weeks back.
Large, well maintained park with many varieties of gardens. Ive been visiting this park regularly for several years. Has a visitor center, trails along the water, and a lovely Japanese stroll garden (requires a small entry fee). Highly recommended.
Very nice park and garden with wide open spaces for frisbee or a picnic. Long scenic paths for walking or running, and beautiful selections of plants. Great place to relax on the weekend. No entrance or parking fees. Make sure to see the butterfly enclosure.
Great place to relax, walk and enjoy nature. The butterfly house is awesome too!
Absolutely beautiful place. Nice trails with a safe feeling. Little bridges and secret gardens. Including water falls.
So many free gardens full of beautiful flowers. Lots of areas to have a picnic. A butterfly house for children. Great place to fly a kite. Lots of trails good for walking, biking, exploring. Fun place to spend the day, with a very nice visitors center.
I always enjoy coming here! The fresh air, meeting new people. Bringing my son to play on the playground. In the fall I enjoy seeing the beautiful colors of the leaves and in the spring and summer the flowers and gardens are just beautiful! Its a great place to go for a picnic or work out. Go for a stroll an enjoy the park! Im sure you will enjoy!
Wow what a fantastic place! The gardens are gorgeous and everything is beautifully manicured. There is so much to see and so many peaceful shady spots to relax and enjoy the scenery. The Japanese Stroll Garden is worth every penny of the $4 fee it is incredible.
Literally the biggest park Ive ever seen. Clean. Amazing gardens.
Plenty of Pokestops and Gyms. A great way to get steps in while also getting new Pokemon
So many things to do for all family members, great place to walk and just get fresh air. Plenty to keep kids of any age occupied and happy.
Great location for any outdoor experience! Its a very large park, with a variety of locations to play and relax. Fields, trees, creeks, and meadows, all rolled into a single park for the enjoyment of nature. Definitely recommend for walking, picnic lunches under the trees, playing games, and whatever else you love to do outside
This park is beautiful and so much fun.
Love this place.. kids always have a blast. Lots to explore.
Beautiful beautiful garden, very good job Recommend to take a break from stress and life whit some cold drinks in this nice park.
Wonderful gardens to walk in or sit and read a book.
I had a photo shoot by Jen, owner of Simply Taken Photos. We met up at the hostas garden around 7pm... a perfect time, i.e., not too hot, etc. Jen was very professional, yet personable. Lovely place for photos and/or a family stroll.
Just beautiful, nothing else to say, people need to check this place out!. Mui
We came specifically to visit the butterfly garden and were happy with what we saw. The two staff were helpful and full of information.
Beautiful park and lots of trails to walk, playgrounds for kids. Cant say enough about how great this park is, make sure to visit here!
Usually a lot of people there. A very beautiful place to vist
We chose to get married in front of the waterfall in the Hosta garden. Its perfect for a small wedding! Nice and shaded, intimate setting.
Its a Beautiful park to walk in an look at flowers an all the Gardens ️
Beautiful place and well worth the $4 to tour the Japanese gardens
Excellent place to take your family, enjoy a long walk on the trails while enjoying nature and many of the well kept flower beds and other arrangements. It is also a great spot to play Pokemon Go!
Amazing beautiful place so relaxing
There is a nice trail to walk if you just need to get out and enjoy some fresh air!
Great park in Springfield! Beautiful and scenic with ample space for picnics, throwing around a frisbee, and lots of other outdoor activities!
Love love love it perfect place for pets and kids. Or if you just want to walk around and smell the flowers. Tons of different types of play areas for kids with educational designs and signs. Plus if you play Pokemon go. It is a definate place to hit. The amount of Pokemon. Different types all over and massive amounts of poke stops. Its all around just awesome.
Very peaceful and beautiful! Also just $4 a ticket. Not too bad. Was there for about an hour.
The trails are kept clean and the scenery is breath taking. My kid loves to walk around and play at the few natural play grounds along the trails. Very family and kid friendly.
Spacious beautiful park with endless walking trails. Lots of dogs, walkers, flowers and trees and a beautiful lake.
I absolutely love this park. I go here every chance I get. It is one of my very favorite parts about living in Springfield. However, I always wonder why there is no food or drink available. Either in the big building or maybe even food carts or anyting. What a missed opportunity for making money and making the park better. It would be great if we could get an ice cream or something. Also my only real complaint is that the bathrooms are always nasty. Which is so weird because the park is kept so nice and that building is so nice looking but the bathrooms are absolutely never cleaned it seems like.
This park is beautiful and Huge with so much to offer. If you are a pokemon Go fan its like a gold mine.
Always a nice walk with plenty of benches to relax and watch birds, squirrels, fish, or bugs.
It was a magical place. I reconnected with an old friend and it started pouring. Unable to find a tree to block the heavy downpour we just continued to walk. Then the hail set in, so we started sprinting the trail so we wouldnt have to workout for the day. Finally, after navigating through the rivers of rainfall and ice stones we made it to the car absolutely soaking wet. Tunred the heaters on the car to full blast and chatted it up in the parking lot for a couple hours. It was a great experience.
The park is beautiful. There are so many different gardens, pond. Great for kids. Also has the Japanese stroll Garden which is a must see.
The best place in Springfield to play Pokemon Go. The whole park has plenty of walking paths, photo ops, pokestops, and gyms. Soooooo many locals players around. You can come here any day alone or with a friend and you are bound to have plenty of people to raid with
My fiance proposed to me in the hosta garden. I will always hold this place dear. It is gorgeous.
Nice walking trails. Clean. The demonstration gardens are great.
The park is always clean and beautiful. It has walking space and playgrounds for all ages plus a beautiful butterfly house and educational post along your walk.
The fact that this place is free and close to home is amazing. My son and I killed a few hours here. We (he) pokemon hunted around the pond while I got steps in. We stopped by the butterfly house and saw some caterpillars, cocoons and butterflies. We also took a break and sat down at the farm house. Before we left, I sat in the playground area and watched play for a good hour or so. I will say that you should watch out for goose poop. I didnt realize I stepped in it until I smelled the smell of something smelly at home on my left shoe.
Good place for graduation party. Being everything is closed down
Love this place. The best when its almost dark and nobody is there.
C awesome place to take kids especially if they want to enjoy nature especially the better flies
Beautiful and serene. Perfect place to stroll, and then sit with nature.
Beautiful walking trails, gardens are spectacular, playgrounds, benches, shelters. History right there as well. Great day outside.
Love the park! Best one in Spf! Plenty to do and see.
The gardens are beautiful and well kept. My favorite Springfield park by far.
I wont give it a bad review because that would be a lie if I did. I just want this park to myself is all!!!
This is a phenomenal park. The grounds are pristine. There are markers for many of the trees and plants.
Beautiful quiet and calm as usualI truly miss being able to go there frequently.
Beautiful Park. First time there and didnt see nearly all of it.
We went to the Japanese garden part of the park. While it is a pay part, its nice because its less crowded. Its incredibly relaxing to sit and listen to the water and just zone out.
Great park with so much to do and look at.
Its was so fun and interesting. Everything was so realistic and the people there were absolutely so wonderful we had a awesome time
Nice park. Well landscaped. Lots of walking trails. Will visit again.
Love this place! Its always so beautiful! Doesnt matter the season, there is always something cool to do or see it. Photos from the Japanese Garden.
Always a great place to get away or just relax. Theres plenty to do here and quite a few festivals are held here throughout the year so that livens things up as well
Pokemon Go Galore! Enjoy spending hours on end getting pokemon and items left and right! And its beautiful to boot! Family friendly or maybe fly solo! You cant go wrong wandering for hours looking at the beautiful greenery and butterflies! I can spend a day just walking around enjoying the fresh air and Pokemon Go stops!
Gorgeous day for a stroll in the Gardens, lots of people allowing annimals to deficate without care- step carefully!
Beautiful park in a great location. Lots of paths and trails. There are several playgrounds spread throughout. There is also a pond and several pavilions. And to top it off there is a nature garden.
