Ive been coming to this park since I was a kid, and it is a very nice park. But, the past three times Ive gone there Ive been made very uncomfortable by weird old men intruding on my space and was effectively forced to leave. It has made me not want to come back to this beautiful park, and it has made me wonder what kind of horrible creeps women have to deal with on a regular basis. Wish something could be done about it, its a public park where lots of families and people come to walk there dogs and its terrible what it seems to have become.

Love the trails and would give it 5 stars if they actually took care of them. So many have been washed or eroded from rain. All the wooden walk ways are broken or almost unwalkable due to not being taken care of.

There are many trails to hike. However, there are no maps and the trails are not marked. There are a ton of bugs. There are trees down on the trails.

Trails are over grown. Trees down on paths/foot trails. Very poorly marked trail. They have a nice color coded maps, but no box to get a trail map. A few cans of spray paint would be great

Cozy little park to wander around in. There are some small cliffs for climbing by the river. The trails can be quite rough and are often flooded after a big rain. I actually prefer the rawness of the trails here to those in over-managed parks. Would not suggest going here in deep summer as spiders build web gauntlets across the trails at regular intervals.

One of our favorite places to go in the area! I come from the west where hiking and nature trails are everywhere, carpenter park helps me feel right at home! Dense forested area with mild incline for a more hike- like experience. There are many trails to explore, and many that go along the Sangamon river. There are also many unique and gigantic trees that make you think you are not in Illinois. If you need an outdoor excursion, go to carpenter park!

My family and I have loved carpenter park for over 50 yrs. It will always be one of my favorite places in the world. I have never been apprehensive walking alone until the last couple of years. Too many weirdos hanging around trying to meet others. You never know what your going to run into on the trails. People doing things they should not be doing in public parks. Also dogs running loose and horses leaving their calling cards for people to step in.

Beautiful trails, I dont recommend bringing your dog during the warmer season because tick levels are so crazy that tick repellent barely works.
