If you just like to walk in the woods its a really nice time. Easy walk, easy trail, hidden gem for the area.
This was a new place for me to trailrun. Only a couple miles from Buck Creek on Old Columbus Rd. It was quiet (only 1 other car there and we never saw anyone). There is a map at the entrance but not really trail marks. But the trails all circle back around, so it kind of works either way. Total trails approx 2 miles. Theres an old cemetery in the middle from the 1800s. All of it was nicely maintained. We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem that I had no idea about!
Nice walk in the woods. Old cemetery on trail. Watch for tree roots on the path.
Visited twice and each time saw new and very unique flowers along the trail. The part through the forest to get to the fen is boring and overgrown with invasives and the first time we were starting to get disappointed - but the fen itself is an absolute marvel.
An ok walk but the biting flies were so bad! I was chased out by them; they were relentless and made the experience far from enjoyable. I may try it at a less buggy time like early spring.
A true hidden gem! No, really - I grew up just down the road and has no idea this was here. Lovely, well-maintained trails through densely wooded and swamp/meadow areas, including a boardwalk. Great for hiking and for wildlife, especially birding. You feel like you are quite a long way from any city, even though it is actually very near town. One star removed because there is no sign visible from the road to identify the place (just an opening in the trees behind a small unpaved parking area) and there are no trail maps. Its impossible to get seriously lost, but in a couple of places you may find yourself backtracking on a side trail or access road.
The trail is nicely maintained for the short distance we walked. Its a gorgeous wooded area with a wide variety of plants to observe. There were a lot of different bird songs to enjoy, as well. Unfortunately...we forgot insect repellent, so our hike was cut very, very short. We will definitely go back sometime when we are better prepared. It was a, blink and youll miss it situation with the entrance, but that kind of adds to the appeal of you are looking for some solitude and tranquility. Its definitely worth the drive, but dont forget the bug spray!
The cemetery has the first Tuttle that came to Clark County in 1806.
Super awesome! All paths lead back to graveyard. Didnt try the inter-something-named path. Will be back! Well maintained!!!
Secluded, mysterious, and gorgeous. Feels like a somewhat transformative experience to be here. I think itd be a cool place for an old school picnic!
No pets allowed. Address took me to the wrong spot.
Nice paths, wear old shoes for the boardwalk if it has rained lately, old cemetery,
Such a beautiful place that feels isolated, but its very close to home. The lovely trail leads to a small cemetery from the early to mid 1800s. From there you can follow the trail to steps that lead to a boardwalk through the fen.
Very interesting little place tucked back in an area you wouldnt expect. Be sure to walk all the way back to the early 1800s graveyard and the boardwalk!
Peaceful
If many people are present, parking space is limited. The area to park is unpaved and uneven. Though parking is mediocre the trails are well kept and scenic.
Beautiful walking trail!
Great place to go
This is exactly what a Nature Preserve should be off the beaten path.
