My parents took the kids and I on the 3 hour trip and we had a blast! It was so fun, the scenery was absolutely gorgeous and we loved hearing all the stories about things and places were were going by! We did this for my 4 year old son, cause hes been such a good boy and he LOVES trains, but we all enjoyed every minute of it. The staff were all very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. The drinks and snacks were only a dollar a piece and kept our bellies full. We cant wait to go back and take the longer trip! Thank you all for making our trip an amazing one, we throughly enjoyed it and had the best time!
The staff was so nice. Made it a very enjoyable train ride. Cant wait to do it again.
Great trip I would highly recommend it. If you are looking for the old time train experience this is one of the best. I have been on there trips several times and it never disappoints
I am very grateful to have a railroad 70 miles away from me, in Arkansas, and not owned by a big corporation. I love the new railroad crossings, especially the ones that include a sidewalk/trail gate! Kudos to them for installing these at some crossings!!! I also love the fact that they tell us stuff about the area we are in. I enjoy the normal train rides (kind of), but not the annoying ones. I also enjoy seeing the train go by when Im in transportation.Currently, their rides are just okay. They are slowly getting better, but they need to change some things before they can become good.1. They have giant, concert-style speakers in the passenger cars that are zip-tied to the carriage racks. Since they are inside these cars, they blast sounds out, no matter what volume they are at, which bounce off the walls. Because of this, they produce ear-splitting sounds, even when not at high volume! These need to be replaced with NORMAL speakers in the ceiling that are made for indoor use or buy railcars that already have speakers built into the ceiling, like everybody else!!!2. It would help if they played music on the normal rides, but it cant be country, bluegrass, or christian music unless they play 1 pop song, 1 modern rock song, 1 old rock song, and 1 alternative song along with it. This is called a mix of music. Everyone loves mixes because everyone gets to hear something they love! NO KARAOKE!!! PERIOD!!!3. The singing (caroling) on the Christmas train NEEDS TO STOP!! It is very annoying and it feels like they are slapping every customer in the face!!! Normal Christmas music playing on the speakers is fine too, unless Polar Express is playing!!!4. During the Christmas train, they play the Polar Express movie on a TV that nobody can see (22 to 27 inch) and is on MUTE!!! This movie needs to be played on a bigger TV that everyone can see and the sound needs to be on the speakers so everyone can hear it!!!5. Even though some crossings have been updated, not all the crossings have been updated. Some sidewalks/ trails still have no safety devices and some roads have no gates! These need to be improved!!!6. I saw someone describe this railroad as vintage, yet there is nothing vintage about it. If this was a vintage railroad, they would not have the new, beautiful railroad crossing safety gates at some sidewalks and trails.7. The last time I went (2019), they didnt let us choose which car we wanted, where the car will be, choose to ride in a car directly behind the engine, or anything when I bought my tickets!!! The only thing I got to choose was whether I wanted Coach or something else. THATS IT!! EVERYTHING is a guessing game and you dont get to choose anything!!! You also dont get to walk from car to car, unlike other railroads!!!They have done some things better over the years, but not everything. They still have a long way to go before they can even be called good. The ride itself is meh. The normal rides are by far the best and the beautiful, new railroad crossings make the ride better than anything else does. Off-ride is amazing because you dont have to put up with these annoying things that need to be fixed. If you are okay with the bad parts of the ride, then by all means, try it.
Day was really cloudy, rainy, & cold. Not their fault, of course, but it affected the foliage colors. Each car has a conductor to share history. Nice experience!
We rode the train from Springdale to Van Buren, it was beautiful. The servers on our train were awesome..Very knowledgeable about the things to watch for. I needed a different type of coffee cup, and they looked high and low and couldnt find one..The main conductor came back and apologized and made sure on the return trip that I had one. They went above and beyond just for a cup. The shopping in Van buren was great. We ate lunch at The Vault Bar and Grill the food was delicious. Would recommend this trip. Planning on next year taking another trip.
The trip out was nice, but the trip back is the same scenery and it gets boring fast. It takes forever to get through the cities to even see any scenery.
Enjoyed my ride. I took a day trip down to Van Buren and back. The scenery is beautify and the ride was quick and easy.
OMG at was s fantastic day ️If ever in the area take this train ride
I enjoyed my weekend ridding the Train from Springfield to Van Beuran
Amazing experience and great friendly conductors
Surprised my mom and aunt with tickets for their birthday (they are twins). We had the best time!! Rode in the Silver Feather. Our guide (I believe his name was Mike?) was wonderful and so informative. We have been wanting to check this off our bucket lists for quite some time and so glad we did. I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially if you are from the area. It gives you a completely different perspective of NWA.
Had a wonderful time. Sonic views and a great conductor! Dont miss this experience!!
We had a fabulous time on this excursion, thanks to the younger conductors. We had a small problem, and Im glad I said something. I would like to take the Springdale to Van Buren trip again, and next time bring my iPad Pro so I can shoot better video. Early April sounds like the perfect time to go! Thank you, A&MR staff, for making this a terrific birthday for my beautiful bride! It was her first train ride, and you made our day!
I had a great ride from Van Buren to Winslow and back. I was with a group and we all had an enjoyable experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend taking a trip on this railroad.
Great day for a train ride, the fall foliage was not at its peak, still enjoyed the scenery. A great way to enjoy the backroads without driving. The swaying of the train on the track relaxing. Spotted a few deer, a few small waterfall. Glad we spent the day enjoying the backroads of our beautiful state
This is the best thing you can do if you want a relaxing day. Its very laidback and the people are the best. You will see some very beautiful vistas and hear about the train and the surrounding towns as you pass through. Snacks and drinks are available for a small charge. Coffee has free refills. You will enjoy this train and the trip.
This a very nice all day trip leaving from Springdale. The rural Arkansas countryside and southern Ozark mountains are very scenic.
I rode a number of long- and medium-distance trains as a child. The jaunt I took brought back all of my cherished memories. Cars clearly recieve loving care and staff are enthusiastic about service and comfort . Narration is terrific. Cant wait to take another trip!!!!!
Ride is too short and the scenery is not so scenic.the people and train are great tho
Nice ambiance makes you feel old school in a good way.
This is a very nice trip through the Arkansas countryside. The narration pointed out historic places of note along the way.
Really enjoyed the ride in the vintage car. Not so much the town of Van Buren, the stay was too long for no more than what was there to see and even hard to find a good place to eat lunch. The ride back was not so pleasant because they filled the car with the passengers from the other cars which made it too full. The snacks on the car were pretty lame and the drinks werent free which we thought we had already paid for in our upgrade. But now that we understand the system we will go again to a different town.
We rode the train from Springdale to Van Buren, Arkansas for you 40 Anniversary. We had a 2 hour layover, got to eat and shop, loved it.
Authentic & historic. Very interesting tour & museum
The people there are awesome! Opened up the museum for my son and help me track down the Saturday train for some Railfan.
We rode the Silver Feather car from Springdale to Van Buren. Its a fun train ride. My 6-year-old loved it!
Had a great time. Fred and the others were so great. Meet some new friends. I love trains and the little town of Van Buren was a treasure.
Great views excellent staff that was well-versed in nearly every question asked during the ride to Van Buren. I hope the history and the knowledge of these people Carries On to the Next Generation
Great customer service, all the employees were so nice. Food/snack/beverage selection at the coach section wasnt much. If taking a longer than 3-hour trip, be prepared. 3-hour scenic route excursion is the best option though, imho. Coffee was barely warm. I wish theyd sell lunch at the coachs.
Neat trip to take. Educational, exciting and fun for kids. My husband and I really enjoyed it.
A great ride with a terrific group of people through beautiful countryside! Well come here again!
Very enjoyable its a relaxing ride and as far as the person complaining about the horn its the law you go through a lot of towns and every crossing they have to sound. The snacks were doughnuts soda coffee and fruit very nice, I guess you cant please everyone, but as far as we go it was very nice and a great change of pace. Upgrade upgrade upgrade, they didnt let anyone that wasnt on the trip down to come back on the upgraded car, our car was the best as far as climate control and very comfortable!
Friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the history. Would highly recommend!
I have a love/hate relationship with the place. I worked there back in 1988 but it didnt go so well. However the place still fascinates me to this day...
Train was awesome! Everyone was friendly...Raymond should not have the Mike he talked to much on our way back and said lame jokes
Just a really fun experience!! Its a must do!
Ride was longer than expected, but all the staff were great and took care of everbody! I highly recommend it, great experience for my husband and I. We loved all the history given to us from the conductor Raymond!!
Well that was fun! We took the car with the bubble top to Van Buren. The tracks were blocked about halfway through so we were stuck and had very little time to see Van Buren. Bring your own lunch and snacks in a paper sack so you don’t have to carry around the container, and so you don’t have to waste your time in a restaurant. You can’t leave anything on the train. Eat on the way and bring a deck of cards. Paying extra for the bubble top does not mean you get to ride up there in both directions.
My 4 yr old wanted to ride for her birthday with her friend. She had a blast. We went to winlow.
Except for the rain, was a great day. Highly recommend you take the trip if you havent.
Really enjoyed the ride and all the info about the history in the area
We went on the Christmas Train to Johnson and back. We enjoyed our time and the carols we sang.
A must do. The train ride and service was great...
My family went on the Christmas ride. It was my first time ever being on a train at all and it was wonderful.
We did the xmas train ride and it was hella disappointing...my daughter was ready to go after about a min i totally could of saved quite a bit of money bc she didnt really enjoy it.
My youngest and I love to drive by and see the locomotives that are there.
Not worth the money for the half day ride to Winslow. The website leads you to believe you get drinks and lunch. You get either water or pop, a sandwich, chips and a cookieAlso, dont buy the tickets for the glass top. Its hot up there and they let anyone sit up there.
Sophie Pinchen made our trip amazing. This was our first trip and we will definitely do it again. Loved that we could see everything from our seats in the dome.
I rode the Christmas train with my son. It was a great experience.
Great way to relax and see the countryside.
It was ok .. but for the $80 a ticket i.paid .. ok is very disappointing .. It was an unusual experience ... the scenery was prtty good and the stop over in van Buren was informative and scenic ... however, the day started off rocky when we ordered coffee and a pastry. After several minutes after our 1st order fred came by and asked if we needed anything .. we told him we had ordered coffee. He said, so youve already ordered? We told him we had but we had not received it yet .. he told us we needed to be patient because they use a keurig. Eventually, we got our coffee. Next came the pastries. Fred asked if we wanted pastries .. we looked through the pastries .. which were like the .25 cent ones you can get at Dollar General. We picked 3 .. Fred told me I had to put one back .. that there were more people on the train than us .. !!!! I informed fred that there was 4 of us at the table. However, he took one of the pastries and left .. needless to say it was quite shocking and confusing ... we paid the $80 to get a VIP experience .. im still confused about the .25 cent pastry. . We also informed the hostesses that the car was very hot .. we got no verbal response .. but they did open a window at each end of the car which made no difference in the heat. If you are going to ride, I wouldnt pay extra for a VIP ticket. You will not get a VIP treatment.
Had lots of fun on the train ride, great experience, and a cool museum
Always friendly, love the Banjo pickin. Staff is the best.
The website booking was a little tough, but it was worth it. Great jump back in time with a great staff on the train!
Loved our train ride! Very educational and relaxing. Take the time to ride the rails with your family. My granddaughter loved it.
My wife and I took the Springdale to Van Buren trip on March 9, 2016. We rode in car 106. All in all, this was a nice, pleasant trip. The conductors were nice and gave local information about the area the train went through. You can purchase pop and water. You can also bring your own, as well as snacks. You will have a three hour stop at Van Buren. This gives you time for lunch and to meander around the shops. There is a free trolley ride waiting when you disembark. The time gos by faster than you think so dont spend too much time in one place if you want to see all the shops. Going in early March, before the trees are leafed out, allowed for better views. We saw several deer. Another three weeks later would have been a better choice when dogwood and red bud would have been in bloom. This was a nice way to spend the day. Arkansas is my favourite State!
I expected great scenery but what I got was the industrial part of Springdale. Debris eveywhere. You literally go forward for half a mile then reverse. The train was nice, seem like I stepped back in time when i first entered. The staff was okay. A slim caucasian girl with glasses was passive aggressive toward us. I wont be coming back because of her.
45 min late leaving and 1&1/2 hours getting back late, rained and the car we were in leaked at every window cold.but it was nice
What a wonderful Christmas trip I made with my family.
Great experience! Lots of history to hear about and the Trolley in Van Buren picks you up and drops you off at station!
A very interesting ride through a few small Arkansas towns.
If it had not been for the fall color I would not have given a 5 star review. When we boarded no one looked at our tickets to tell us to go right or left. People were a mixed up on where to sit. I would suggest getting the lower price tickets as you get the same experience either way. Also I pretty sure you could just get in line and hope on with out paying. Sophie was working hard to make things better.
We bought the best tickets you could with the best view. On the ride back they let people who had the cheap tickets sit in premium seats And the employees would not fix this situation so most of the people who paid extra got screwed and had to sit where ever that could find a seat and most of them had to share seats and looked very uncomfortable. Why pay extra if they just let people who didnt sit in the expensive seats?
My son loved trains.
Train is cool upstairs!
It was nice. Wish the brush was cut down. Makes for a very long trip when you see mostly wooded ditches.
Took the trip from Fort Smith to Winslow. We had a great time. It was very beautiful. They had a lot of interesting facts. It was very peaceful and calming. We are already talking about doing it again. I think the extra cost for the dome was well worth it but it did get a little warm with the sun beating down all day.
So much fun! Great for kids to experience a ride. They love it!
Great train experience, staff has a nice commentary on the towns you pass and the history. Good price to be had using Groupon, wonderful trip for young and old, walking around in town is fun as well. If you are a yankee you might get a dose of the southern memories of the civil war.
We had a good ride.... my issues.... the hot coco u get about an once .... and second santa was busting out of his suit ... one would think with such an attraction one would invest more in a proper costume for the main cause of the ride... his pants were literally half way down his butt with his black slacks holding up the red suit slack.. his zipper on his top was hanging on by its tippy teeth because his gut was bursting the coat out at the seems... the entire suit looked to be a size medium on what is clearly a double xl of a man.... not only was it disturbing to parents to see this but our children as well.... other than that it was an ok adventure..
This was such a pleasant and beautiful ride. We had the lower half of the dome car all to ourselves on the way to Van Buren and then the dome on the way back. We will definitely be back
Loved the Historic Ride on ths Train.
Staff was very helpful.
Had a blast on the Train to Van Buren AR.
We took the ride from Spingdale to Winslow July, 23 2017 . We went on the ride for our grandson that is 3 yrs. old . He is crazy about trains . We enjoyed the trip very much, it was very hot that day, but the cars were air conditioned and we were very comfortable on the train . The staff was great, very friendly and made the trip good . The seating was very comfortable .When we headed back we were ask if we would like to ride in the vintage car and we did, it seemed the view out the windows was a little better . We had purchased coach, but when we arrived at the depot we were upgraded to 1st class, not sure why, but it was ok with us . After reading some of the reviews posted, i do not understand the bad reviews maybe just some people like to complain i guess . Our trip was awesome and we had driven almost 5 hours to get there and take the ride . I would say if you are interested in train rides this is a great one for the money ....very happy
Fun trip through the mountains! Hopefully, there will be more to do once you reach destination. When I went, there were limited places to visit and some were getting ready to open.
So much fun in the silver feather (360 degree dome window) car. Nice scenry from spingdale to van buren. Informative conductor with funny jokes. Highly reccommend.
Very interesting museum
Awesome place to go to for railfans
We did a Christmas Train- it was so much fun, the kids have been talking about it for days. Definately making this a Christmas tradition!
We have had our company Christmas party on the train for several years now and it is so much fun, our staff loves it and the railroad staff is so accommodating and friendly!
We had so much fun as a family
What a terrible ride! To begin with, none of thw staff had any idea what was going on. No one seemed to know where to seat us and when we finally did get seated, it was basically in a side area that was clearly overflow seating. We were sat at three crappy tables (we couldnt even sit together) and spent the whole trip freezing and with zero service (The snacks for sale? Forget it, we saw nobody except once where the guy brought us a single blanket because it was freezing cold for the five of us to share). We couldnt understand anything he was saying over the speaker, either, so any interesting points were totally lost. The people next to us were supposed to be first class, but also got stuck in the crappy overflow hallway seating because no one seemed to have any idea what was going on.All in all, not even worth the groupon price. At first I thought, hey, Im giving my money to preserve something really cool. But it is absolutely the biggest waste. If they really want to keep the railroad going, they need to hire some better people and GET ORGANIZED.
We had a great time on the railroad. Prices were good, staff was great, views were great. Our three year old loves trains, and he was in love.
Dun trip but was way too long
Nice trip. Would have preferred a quiet ride and not as much talking. Price is a little too high.
They had to cancel because of a washout. But they bent over backwards with free ticket comps and still let us tour the local facilities. They could have just given us vouchers for a future trip and sent us on our way. I want to publicly thank them for taking care of all our members.
My family and I love riding on the Christmas train every year and have so much fun with everyone who makes it so festive!
It was a great experience got to spend time with my kids
We took our toddler on the Christmas train ride from Springdale to Johnson. It was fun in the fact that he got to see a real life train and ride on it but the scenery wasnt great. We were supposed to be led in Christmas carols but the volunteers in our car were too shy I guess to do much.
Planning our next adventure
