Great place to get away from the city. This nature center is nestled right into a little bit of heaven. There is a handicapped accessible trail, Whittier Narrows Police Dept is there, a little museum with #insects #gemsandminerals #taxidermy and they even have outdoor nature classes and events for the whole family. They have night hikes and this was also the place where the Orignal Tarzan was filmed.

Homeless central is what they should call it. If you walk, i wouldnt. If you ride, i hope you are fast or carry mace. Otherwise, i think its a great place to get out for some exercise.

I think its a great place to visit parking and entry are free stop. Do not expect a groomed or are prepared areas. It is a very natural place to go nothing has been done to improve it other than nature.

Definitely a cool place to ride to. Usually there is people flying amazing drones from helicopters to big planes, Im talking four feet long big heavy powerful drones.Moving on there is over 20 bathrooms there is Lakes across the street on the other part of the park you must use the crosswalk to get there. Baseball diamonds a BMX track and more, huge Park. You could easily have a party of 50 and no one would care.

Dear Google,You have mixed up two entities. The Natural Area of Whittier Narrows is within the Army Corps land behind the Whittier Narrows Dam. The Discovery Center is only a idea by an unknown entity in the County Government (honestly - the community doesnt know who wants to build this) to build in a park poor community. The Whittier Narrows Natural Area is not the Discovery Center, which you have placed together. The Discovery Center is still a project in a box by the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, or RMC. The RMC, began as a State funded entity to fund and create parks for communities that were park poor, such as those in El Monte and South El Monte. The early RMC funded a joint project to look into the correlation between poor health/poverty/little or no available community parks. The RMCs Green Visions Plan was a joint project with USC, and had a public GPS Webtool where one could map community by community in the County of L. A.s diverse population. One could see the economic standing + race +parks. The Green Vision Plan showed that parks DO increase the quality of health of a community, but NOT buildings. BUT, somehow the RMC got off course with their Discovery Center Project.The RMC suddenly wanted to turn a public open free Natural Park into 115 space parking lot with a many many times larger building (then what is there now). For several years the RMC and the various side groups made up of many of the same people For some reason, the RMC started thinking that buildings would be great for the community instead of creating more parks. Somehow, the RMC went from an governmental entity for Environmental Justice to an entity that wants to build a huge building - the antithesis of their original business plan. The RMC forgot what their first job was: to do no harm. The RMConservancy has lost its way. Please do not put them together in the same box as the Natural Area.
