Ive always enjoyed hiking and going outdoors. I know it says for the San Pedro House, but I am including the trails and the river itself as part of this review. The trails are great and well maintained. I have always loved the sensation of walking from the San Pedro House into the massive trees which line the San Pedro River. It is a shame that most of the river is nonexistent, but there are parts with water - especially so during specific times of the year. If you want a nice hike that really isnt so much so a hike as it is a calming nature walk, this place is for you.If you do choose this place for your hiking/outdoor needs, please clean up after yourself. Stay courteous and remember that we all share that beautiful part of nature. Im not implying that its dirty or riddled with filth and garbage, Im just saying that for those who should think twice before littering.I hope you all enjoy the sights and sounds and have a great time. Stay safe out there, guys, and enjoy yourselves!

How wonderful that weve been able to preserve and protect this wonderful place. The gift shop in the San Pedro house is amazing and the nature walk along the river was a joy. And then the Millville and petroglifs hike made our visit even better. If you dont want or can hike then just come and sit awhile enjoying the birds and the clear air.

Use to love to come here a give the big cottonwood tree a big group hug. Now fenced off. Yeah, we get that its falling apart and could be dangerous. There seems to be a lack of care in the details now. The little signs are now incorrect & confusing, as some of the foliage is dead and gone. Lots of birds to observe.

This little spot is pretty cool. We didnt tour the house but we walked the grounds... public restrooms are available. We walked down the path to the river. Fairly flat and wide path. The path narrows as you get closer to the water. There was still alot of debris ftom recent flooding...but we still got right on the edge of the water. Loved the visit.... definitely planning to go and check out the other trail!

The San Pedro House is a part of the San Pedro Riparian Conservatory. Stop at the house and get a map of the trails. Make sure you have a camera, water, good shoes, and a hat for hiking the trails. Its very peaceful and lots to see. I visited when the caterpillars had just hatched and the Birders said the migrating birds were due in a week. There were several bird watchers on the trail that were willing to point out interesting birds in the trees. The trail is not wheelchair friendly but I would suggest you stop, visit the original home and see the area around the home. Bring a pair of binoculars to watch the birds.

If you like Nature you will love this area. We arrived late in the afternoon on the weekend so there was not much going on and we did not have time to take some of the trails they have down to the river. We did go into the San Pedro House, an amazing gift shop. They have 100s of books for sale on many subjects about nature, animals, birds and local history. There have t-shirts, Hummingbird feeders and gifts of all kinds to choose from. The lady working at the register is very friendly and very helpful so be sure to ask her when you have a question about the shop. We bought some shirts and feeders, picked up some brochures and vowed we would return during the week when there is more activity. We also walked around outside and there were birds everywhere eating at the feeders. This is a must visit location for nature.

Great place for an easy hike. Caught some hummingbird banding going on and my son got to carry one from the trap to the workspace. Ample parking, restrooms available and a gift shop resides in the house. Noticed a lot of bird watchers frequent this place. Its a short walk to the river. Nice place to soak in a little history and wilderness.

I was so excited to attend a hummingbird banding. Birds are trapped in soft mesh cage-like traps, measured, weighed and then a tiny band is placed on one leg. All this is recorded and submitted to a central location. After that the birds are fed and then a volunteer holds the bird up next to you so a friend can take your picture then places the bird in your relaxed palm. You get to hold a tiny hummingbird and feel it vibrate as it breathes. Then it flies away. During the measuring, etc., Sherry, the volunteer measuring, will answer any questions or just talk about everything hummingbird. Shes been doing it for over 2 decades and is extremely knowledgeable. It was all fascinating.

Great hidden gem. Tight paths lead you to the river where we saw tons of frogs and birds. Bought cold drinks and ate snacks at the covered tables after our walk. The kids loved it and we will be back.UPDATE 9-24-2016: Came back again for Humming Bird Banding but you have to come over an hour before to get a number for catch and release. The just widened the trail to the river and made other trail improvements. Still a great place.

This is a great place to come and learn about humming birds. It is fun for kids and adults. First when you come in, you will be given a number, this reserves your place in the line to help release a hummingbird. But first you can watch the hummingbird traps and even transport a humming birth to the banding area in a little net carrying case. There the humming birds are examined and weight by an expert, while a volunteer records what is found. They record the birds color, breed, if they have injuries or unusual markings, and weight. They note if they have parasites as well. If the bird has a band, this is noted, if it does not have a band one will be put on and the number will be recorded. iFrom there they are offered sugar water, which most of them accept thankfully. Now the fun part comes: the next inline release person is called and handed the hummingbird with instructions to keep your hand flat and be very careful with the little critter. The hummingbird is now free to fly away from your hand. Some stay a while, some take off right away. All in all a fun experience. The docents will answer any questions. Some birds caught are repeat customers. They have bands and vome by for theFood? All in all aGreat event!
