Very beautiful place. The history in the home from way back when and the scenery was so great. Would love to come back and do the multiple trails and explore more. From NM to AZ with love.
Beautiful and peaceful, however it was better when you didnt have to pay a fee when your only there for 45 min or so and no telling who actually paid and didnt when you see everyone else not going to the payment envelope slot and your the only one doing so.
Hey folks its a very nice place... Come out and spend an hour or two or maybe use it as a jumpoff point for longer hikes up into the mountains... But its not really a big deal. The volunteers have done an amazing amount of work getting the old ranch house open for us to visit and theyve put a lot of time into researching the who what when but theyre real short on the why. The interpretation on what it was like for the folks that loved here to wrestle a living from a hard land is missing.Come in our anyway... Do the nature trail like we did give a big donation so the volunteers can do even more for us. You wont regret it.
Brown Canyon ranch is a great trail for beginners who want to explore the trails of southern Arizona but dont really know what to expect. The trail is generally flat and mildly steep with plenty of shade, and can ease you into exploring more difficult trials like Miller Canyon/peak. The parking opens at 6am so I suggest you get there right as it opens to beat the sun and heat if you are hiking during the spring/summer time. For parking I suggest you drive in the extra mile to the ranch house to park, as it offers direct access to the main trail and other trails, and you dont have to walk through the dirt road and avoid traffic.Even though I rate this trail as suitable for beginners I recommend you bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Be prepared!
My first time to visit this area. It is an absolutely beautiful place to take a hike or have a picnic. The scenery is awesome and the hiking paths are mostly level so it is very nice for beginners or those of us with age problems. There is a parking lot off of Ramsey Rd. or you can drive in a short way on an unpaved road with ruts to the old ranch house where there is a nice large parking lot there. It is pet friendly and they have plastic bags for you to use.
An incredible place thanks to the service of some amazing people.
Walking back in time exploring the pioneer home was fun. Also had a great view of, The eye in the sky. Plentiful parking as well.
We just did the nature trail, which is not shaded but a nice walk. The house and water basin was interesting. Beautiful mountains all around
What a gorgeous place to visit! The history at the house was interesting as well.
What a gem! This wonderful old 1880 ranch house and surrounding buildings gives a glimpse into life as it was back then. Not the comforts we experience today. Doors didn’t fit tight, floors squeaked, no indoor bathroom, cold bedrooms. But these folks enjoyed the beauty of their surroundings and eked out a good life, hopefully. A lovely setting anytime of the year for an adventure and a picnic. We drove all the way to the ranch house itself and parked in its parking lot. There is a public restroom and a picnic table on site. Trails for short hikes around property. There are two ponds which draws in birds and wild life.
Such a beautiful place. Very peaceful!
Great for walking until a car drives by over 15 MPH and dusts you. Nice if they would be more respectful of pedestrians. I like to walk from the road to the ranch as it is the prettiest grassland in SE AZ
Beautiful, peaceful place. .. nice hiking trails. ..easy access
I didnt go there I had a photo shoot there it wasnt good
This is a gret place to take a picnic or hike the history behind this place is amazing
A family friendly trail! I brought my 5 yr old, 2 yr old and 8 week old on the Nature Loop trail then to the duck pond they loved it and the hike was very easy!
Absolutely gorgeous! Definitely worth the hike!
An easy trail, with intermittent shade that connects to the Pomona Mine trail, and at a much higher elevation also connects to the Ramsey Canyon trail. Occasional water is possible in the snow melt and monsoon seasons. Bring water and rocky trail boots.
Historic spot with access to hiking trails
Its a nice place for hiking and photography depending on the season and weather, and the house and the ranch itself have history. Inside of the house is information on the history and its first owners. Gorgeous views.
Im really used to it being a free place to visit. Today I saw the new signage about the fee schedule. Its sad that low income people are being priced out of places to go.
Great place to hike.
A good place to visit, hike, and take pictures. Just you be informed that you have to pay.
Nice trails. Fun AZ history. Ive gone on this trail sense I was a kid and its so fun to share the experience with my kids.
The trails are really nice for hiking or bike riding. The homestead is a great example of the way things were.
This is a great place to go hiking, alone, with a friend, or even your entire family. The beginning part is easy to hike. The further you go, the more difficult it gets. We’ve taken my roommates 2 dogs before and they loved it. It does get a lot rocky, and the further up you go, the colder it gets. I’ve been here 4 times and each time our group has ran into about 5 other group hikers during the 3 hour trips, so it’s not crowded at all, or so is my experience. If you’re hiking during the summer, it might get hot with spotty shade cover at best, so be prepared. The grounds are always clean and I’ve never ran into an employee yet, so I can’t comment on the staff except to say it’s clean.
Beautiful place for pictures
Im really not sure why this exists. Maintaining a place for people and the kids from the area is understandable, but not to the point where the building looks rundown and improperly maintained.
It could definitely be maintained more adequately, especially the house–small museum-like facilities, but the views (Huachuca Mountains, Fort Huachuca, aerostat, wildlife, etc...) and accessibility (connection to several neighborhood-accessible hiking, and mountainbiking trails) are unbeatable.
Very historic! Great ranger!
A beautiful oasis in the high desert of Southern Arizona. Be sure to make the 10 minute trip to Ramsey Canyon to fill out your day
Good for kids, but not much for adults
The view is magnificent. Historical ranch
Gorgeous views, and hikes for every level of fitness
Come join the fun at BCR.
Peaceful, beautiful scenery, nice hiking
Great short loop with some small challenging hills. Great for family Hikes
Beautiful and peaceful, a step back in time.
Its just beautiful
Beautiful views and many connections to trails.
One if my favorite places to hike.
Great hiking area. A network of trails exists. Going into the canyon there are side trails but the main trail leads into the heart of the Huachuca Mts. The ranch house is a sort of museum and around it is old ranch works such as a working wind mill that is pumping ground water and cattle pens.
Easy trails nice to walk on a beautiful day. Although you do need to watch out for the bikers who sometimes dont warn you that theyre coming up behind you
Brown Canyon Ranch is one of my favorite places to visit. The grass and the cottonwood trees make the place feel alive. The Old Ranch House is an awesome historical site to check out. There are some really good hikes that had to go through this area and a lot of mountain bikers enjoy these trails as well. And I also heard that it is becoming a city park and this will be a very cool addition to Sierra vistas City Parks.
A trail which starts at the base of the Huachuca Mountains. Nice and pretty walk up a draw, which slowly progresses in difficulty as the rate of elevation increases. This trail has flowing water down to a trough just before the start of the main ascent (about 1.5 miles from the ranch itself). On the way, you pass a historic grave and see the local flora.Best enjoyed in the mornings, this walk is still fairly cool because of the shade of the mountains and trees.
Delightful, and fun exploring for my small children! Had family photos taken there.
Great place. Its like a trip back in time
One of my local favs, always brings peace to mySpirit..
Beautiful place for either early morning or early evening stills or hikes. Not very shaded so beat the heat.
Very cool place!! Can certainly understand why the original settlers decided to build here.
Old homestead ( look for the books ) and hiking to aerostat base ( fenced off and guarded ) or old mine (2300 vertical feet up ). Carry water & sun protection.
Very beautiful, well maintained. Had a small wedding there. It was perfect.
History was fascinating. Great hiking. Trails nicely marked.
Amazing place. Worth the trip
Serenity. Tranquility. History. #SierraVista
Great place for puctures and relax
Great trails and beautiful scenery
This is my favorite spot for hiking. There is a 5 mile hike that takes through tall trees and rock formations. The ranch house area is an awesome area if you want to relax and take in the scenery. Theres a pond on site, an old windmill, and horse staging area. Great place for picture taking.
Really pretty views great place to take kids to explore
I went for the great trails and loops in the area, and this ranch home was a very nice surprise. Let yourself in for a self-guided tour with some great history and artifacts. Now Im not giving it five stars in that it compares to a major museum, but its a wonderful way to spend twenty minutes to a half hour along your hike.
Nice place to go looking around and take pictures and hiking
Nice little ranch. My two kids had fun. We went hiking
My family was visiting from Texas. my sister and her three young children enjoyed looking around inside and out of the historic ranch house. We also did the short nature trail including her 6 yo son in his wheelchair.
Very interesting history, worth a stop.
Awesome little piece of Sierra Vista history!
Good hike
This is a really cool pice of history and well worth the time to visit, and it is just right outside of town.
I was never there
Be sure to go inside the ranch house.
Great place to hike or MTB
Nice place to do a little hiking with some history. A family was there having a picnic and enjoying the area all day.
Beautiful ! Love the history.
Beautiful place to hike and relax.
Great place for dog walking. Also saw SV blimp grounded due to high winds.
Very easy to walk and take the kids on to learn the history of the brown canyon.
Meh its okay if youre new. not bad not good either. if you want to get out of the house and do some geocashing its fun
Great place to get away from the day to day just make sure you bring water n please stick to the beaten path if your not exp. I also noticed theres volunteer security usually all day every day his names Threeper hes a very polite man hes former military n volunteers his free time making sure the ranch house n other areas are safe for families he usually has his service dog which is the most well behaved English bull Ive ever met. He also has first aid n water if anyone is in need of first aid Check at the ranch house he wears desert digital camo he is masked but not a threat it gets cold n Sandy when the wind blows so its understandable enjoy all .
Nice Trails
