Fay Canyon is a beautiful and easy hike. The official trail is a little over a mile in and sticks near a dry streambed. At the end if the trail you can scramble up the rocks to get some truly majestic views of the canyon and beyond. There is also a side trail about halfway down the trail that leads up to an arch and also offers beautiful views.
Wonderful trail through a wooded area with a lot of shade! Red rocks surrounded us. Saw a couple of javelina and a rabbit foraging for breakfast beneath the canopy of trees. Mostly a flat, red sandy trail with some rock covered areas during the 1.5 mile plus out and back route. The parking lot is across the road from the trailhead.
Great easy hike away from the crowds. Can go in afternoon heat and be in cooler shade at least half the way. Very flat. Optional rock scramble past end of trail if you want a challenge.
We hiked with our 3 sons, ages 9, 7, &1. The 7 year old loves climbing and there was a dry creek bed that he could climb through while we walked the flat path. Our 1 year old walked about the whole path, very flat with rocks to climb over every bit. At the end is a lot of rocks and a great view if you are adventurous. Perfect for an active family with a small one too.
Nice easy trail. Just a little sandy and hard to walk in places. It would be nice if they had a distance marker.
This is an easy trail with not much elevation change till end of the trail. After that theres another hike up a mountain thats pretty steep. There are good sights to see along the way
Loved it. Easy and quick hike that can be completed by all ages. Some rocky areas would present challenges for strollers and wheelchairs certainly cant access, so it is still a fun hike even for advanced hikers. Very beautiful and really great shade scattered thoughout at least half of the trail.
This hike was really good. During the hotter months the beginning half is more out in the open so you feel the sun more. Make sure you take enough water and sunscreen. The main viewpoint is confusing to locate, just make sure to go to the end of the trail then you make your way up to the left of the hill. Worth the hike!
Short little hike about 1.2 miles one way easy.. If you want amazing views you have to continue pass the end of trail sign and go up the mountain.
Awesome trail with shade provided by the tree canopy. Climb the ridge at the end of the trail for stunning views of the canyon.
Nice easy trail to hike, at the end is a rock you can climb and get view of the valley.
Beautiful trail!! My first time hiking this trail. This is a family friendly trail although I didnt make it all the way to the arch. Wonderful views anywhere you look.
Perfect trail for most anyone. Great trail for a hot day. Several shaded areas. Mostly flat and easy hike. The very end of the trail offers an option to climb to a higher level. DO IT!!!!!! It is very doable and SO worth the outstanding views!!!!
Fantastic hike. First we went to the end of the canyon trail. Easy hike. Where the trail officially ends, if you scramble up the rock (its easy to see where others have done so), go up and traverse a couple hundred feet for a spectacular view of the canyon. On our way back out, we found the trail to the arch. This is much more difficult. Its pretty steep, with loose rocks and gravel. But the payoff is worth it if you can do it. You can go under the arch and traverse underneath from side to side for some great views and amazing geology.
One of the best trails, hikes & vistas in Sedona with its picturesque perspectives permeating throughout the entire natural experience. When the official trail ends, you can be courageous and scale the face of the mountains but do at your own risk for the cliffs are of high altitude.
This short but spectacular hike is worth it I would reccomend evening hike the colors would bounce off the canyon walls and also light up the valley floor.
Gorgeous trail... Not too difficult. I have bad knees and pulled it off...
Nice and not too crowded to hiking. Lots of shade. At the end of Trail you can climb up to see the valley. But, if you want to go to see the Arch, its not much shade, trail is steep climb, and its not well marked on trail.
Took this hike November 2016 & climbed all the way to the top of the little pillar to capture this beautiful picture. Easy hike with some shade along the way. Climbing to the top was a little difficult but very well worth it.
Nice trail, not to difficult. Lots of shade. Great views of the red rocks. About halfway up, you can break off to the right and head up to the arch. Its beautiful. Definitely a tough climb, but well worth it.
Great hike if you only have an hour. Trail has plenty of shade and beautiful views of the canyon after scaling the top.
Easy and fun trail, beautiful view at the end. One of our favorite trails in the area!
Perfect for an easy hike. Great parking and even had a restroom (didn’t use it but good to know it’s there). Trail was well marked. There is an arch but depending on what time of day you get to it you may miss it. Noon would be the best to see the sun shining behind the arch since the arch is in front of another rock wall.
This is an easy hike with shade that we recommend when it’s hot out. The end of the trail does allow you to traverse steep terrain and climb higher for some nice views. This hike is good if you have small children and want to let them wander the trail as you hike the canyon. It’s about 1 1/4 miles each way. Plenty of parking across the street from the trail head.
Easy, beautiful, short, mostly shaded hike. Dog friendly, child and elderly friendly. It goes in a canyon between two cliff faces. Awesome views.
Great hike. Less crowded. Plenty of parking.
Very accessible trail (can be done with young kids) with a mind-blowing view of the canyon at the end. Where the maintained trail ends, do climb up the last view meters and enjoy the view above the tree line. Worth every step.
We did this trail at the end of the day after slide rock and bear mountain so we were pretty tuckered out but it was still a very easy trail, mostly shaded and gorgeous lookout points. There’s a lot of social trails but it’s very clear where you should be. There’s big rocks along the way that are fun to climb up on. There were a lot of mosquitoes which wasn’t something we noticed anywhere else but it could have just been the time of day.
A great place early morning to get a charge going first thing. Its about 2 miles RT, and view some of the most scenic views along the road as well!
This is a really sweet little trail. Its a constant very shallow incline on the way in, but it also gets cooler as you go. From sand to dirt, from brush to big shade trees. Hummingbirds and butterflies impressed our daughters, and we had a good time overall.
Good short hike. The hike/scramble up to the arch is pretty cool.
Excellent views. Easy hike!
Easy hiking for a person with any skill level. Path along small creek is beautiful. At the end of the trail you can walk up and keep going to the end. Most people stop at the point where you can see the view but there is a beautiful and serenity at the end of the trail. If you are comfortable walking on the slight slope, it’s worth walking all the way to the end. We saw water falling from the top of the rock and I felt the rain water dropping on my head and it was mystical.
Ive hiked this trail multiple times and loved it every time. Its very easy and is shaded. The arch is beautiful and is definitely worth the hike up to it, though the trail is more difficult and not maintained. The ruins are well past the end if the maintained trail a bit more difficult.
A truly terrific hiking experience. I highly recommend.
My favorite overall hike while in Sedona because it has beautiful scenery throughout and the rock climb at the end (make sure you dont stop where the sign says trail ends!) leads to an amazing view of the canyon, funky rock formations and the desert running off into the distance.
East, flat, just over 2 miles total out and back. Not as scenic as many other trails, but good for kids.
The trail itself is an easy 30 minute or so walk through the trees, to reach the red rock mountain, where the official maintained trail ends. BUT! The trail continues some way up the mountain, and boy, what a view! I highly recommend, if you are up to a little simple rock climbing, to go up the trail. Amazing views! And echoes too.
First trail this trip. Fairly easy and scenic
Incredibly beautiful hiking trail! Easy terrain.
Very cool shade and amazing rocks on a short and easy hike. Great for us old folks!
Mark was very informative on our tour. Sights amazing.
Easy hike to base of the arch. Moderately difficult scramble up the face to astounding views and photo spots. Great little hike.
This is a beautiful hike that even a five year old can do no problems. Its pretty flat and the trail is not rough or rocky. There are some great places along to way to take family pictures.
Its a nice little hike that kids can do. My 6 year old did well. Decent sights of the mountains and a good view at the end. Didnt take a lot of time.
Excellent Family Hike - 1.2 miles out and back. We did this hike with our 6 and 3 year old. Sandy trail 90% of the route with several rock gardens that required assistance for the kids. Very easy for the family.
The place was beautiful and plenty of trails with distances enough to feel satisfied. A great place to bring family and photo taking opportunities. Great place to feed your mother photos for her Facebook feed.
Simple and beautiful. For the whole family.Climb the rocks at the end of this trail and you will have a very beautiful view (take care of u)
I loved the site. We did some hiking with my father. Great experience!
It was a nice trail 2.2 mile round trip trail and was a little sandy, kids will love it. It was a nice trail and pretty views and a nice climb at the end of the trail.
Moderate to easy in my humble opinion, 1 mile each way, great views of red rock mountains specially at the end of the trail where you have the option to do some climbing on the rocks, plenty of shade to rest along the trail, very sandy trail with very fined sand so I recommend to wear high top boots.NOT A LOT OF ELEVATION so you dont need a walking cane but that depends of the person and his / her physical shape, remember to always bring plenty of water with you .large parking lot available . I would say is suitable for mountain bikes since I spot a bike reapir center at the parking lot.
Pretty easy hike until you reach the base of the rock formations. At that point, you’ll see a sign that says “End of managed trail”. Beyond said sign, you can choose to climb the rock formations which is doable, but you’ll need to be careful because of sand on smooth rocks. Beautiful view if you do reach higher of the rock formations.
Nice easy hike...until the end where there is a bit of scrambling on the rocks. But the view is totally worth it. Easy to do with kids as well. Fairly flat and dry the whole way
Beautiful! Great for a quick scenic hike.
One of our favorite hikes in Sedona. There’s a large parking area and the toilet wasn’t too smelly. The hike is very easy. Climb the rocks past the “End of Trail” sign. You’ll get an amazing view of the canyon above the trees, Cathedral Rock, and Bell Rock.
Easy covered hike untill you get to the end of the maintained trail, after that its a steady climb.
Our kids did great on this hike 6 & 4. And we carried the baby in a carrier. Beautiful hike and the kids loved all of the butterflies.
I highly recommend that the Fay canyon trail near Sedona. The variety of trail and Flora in the area are phenomenal. Visiting there in the cooler months of December January February allows for less risk of dehydration and exposure. It can get quite cool in the shade or around sunset so bring layers. The trail itself is a nicely maintained trail with clear markers and leads to an area where you can scramble on a moderately safe cliff.
Not long at all, shady, and view worth the hike some 75 feet above the “end of the trail” sign. Also, natural bridge to the right when going up about 1/3rd of the way.
Nice partially shaded trail. Not technical but good shoes are recommended.
It was great for a nice family hike. Was a very scenic hike, and was wide enough that we had no problem getting through with a 5 month old and two dogs. All the pathways were well marked, and easy to follow. The parking lot was big, I was easily able to park my 4 door long bed truck. If you are looking for a nice day hike for the whole family, this is a nice place to go for the day.
Beautiful hike with fantastic rock formations that are sure to elicit a wow or two!
A really easy hike on a nice shaded path, with a fun scramble at the end for some better views. Could not find the side trail to the arch at all, it really should be marked better.
Nice hike that I a novice hiker and trailrunner can manage
Nice easy hike. Beautiful scenery.
Nice view of the canyon walls and junipers. Trail is shaded in spots with a gradual climb on the way out. Good sized parking lot with restrooms. Just what we were looking for.
Amazing views. A must see! Easy hike. Even has restrooms.
If you have it in you, climb the ascent at the end of the trail. The views are great!
Super easy hike. Once the trail ends, make the short climb up top see this view. Hike only takes about 40 minutes round trip.
A fairly easy hike, rocks on the trail not withstanding. Definitely hike to the end and bring shoes with grip so you can climb up the arch at the end and see the gorgeous valley views.
Great family hike. Beautiful scenery.
Extremely easy hike to go on and well worth it. Now I must mention there is a side trail that you can take that leads to a beautiful arch that you can stand under and look out from. It is absolutely breath taking. The trail to get to it is not easy to find and it is quite a climb. But for the hiker enthusiasts I would highly recommend you do go for it.
Very pretty canyon and a trail accessable to a 77 year old senior
So much to do at Fay Canyon. The scenic views are like nothing else youve seen. First time hiking it, but will definitely not be the last.
Trail is 1.5 miles one way at least, easy trail, not too Steep. Great views.
Fantastic place for a wedding.
Nice easy hike.
This trail is fun - and easy. When you get to the end you have the option to do some climbing.
Easy hiking/ walking trail
Great time, scenic views, and shady trail.
Such a gorgeous trailhead! Much to explore!
Very easy walk through a lovely little canyon. My 7, 5 and 3 year olds didnt have any trouble. When you reach the end, you can continue up a bit if youre willing to scramble.
Great hike. Not different until the last part which has a little climbing.
Nice and level, good for family, elderly and beginners
Excellent and easy hiking trail. Lovely aurroundings.
Worth the short hike.Worth it more to continue on where the trail ends to scale the rocks and see the amazing views.
Very nice 1.5 hour hike. Not too strenuous, shaded, nice views. The view from the head of the canyon is definitely worth the hike!
Always a great hike! Wide easy trails that go back maybe 1.5m. Also clear destinations up the canyon walls, like a beautiful arch, that is rugged and fun. Other hikers will be there.
Lovely way to spend some time. Plenty of parking on a mid week day. Trail is fairly easy with a moderate touch in spots. Very Sandy & well maintained path. There are loose rocks in spots, so tread carefully. Lots of butterflies, bugs, soaring birds, cactus & wildflowers. Some of the tree shapes will amaze. The red rock formations simply awe inspiring. I just loved this trail. I believe the maintained path is about a mile each way. You can continue on but the rest not as maintained & tends to climb up a lot more than the first mile. We were quite dusty when we returned to lot.
Great hike for all skill levels. There are some off trails that would appeal to the more adventurous hikers. Take a side trail to a natural rock bridge, which takes a more advanced hiker to get on top of. Absolutely beautiful spot to watch the sunset...hint hint husbands...romantic spot.
Awesome and very easy hike into a beautiful place! Dont forget your camera.
We hiked this trail for its flat and easy terrain. I babywore my 9month old and he loved looking at the bright sky and red rocks. The path is shaded with trees at one point. For the view climb up the rocks beyond the point that marks end of the trail. Fantastic view!
Like an oasis as you walk between towering mountains & cliffs. Lots of rare lush green around you all the way to the end of the beautiful canyon.
Excellent trailhead for the entire family. If you want more exploration then get off the beaten path and find the arches or go farther in and do some ruin hunting. Off the trail it becomes much harder and bring lots of water when its hot out.
