This tour was the best of the day by far. It was not the best because of the house or the lesson about Flannery herseld - both of which is totally worth the visit in their own right, but our guide was simply terrific. Cody took the time to make certain we knew everything that made Flannery the women she would become. She made certain every question was answered. She made us feel important and just was a great ambassador for the house and I would suggest Flannery herself. Thank you for a great visit.
Very informative tour! Great job of preserving literary history! Highly recommend it
Fascinating place to visit if you love her short stories.
Essential for any lit lover who appreciates Flannery and her weird universe.
This type of attraction is not my cup of tea. But my wife loved it and drug me across Savannah to see it. Its a quaint little mueseum dedicated to an author I never heard of. But a nice place to stop by if you into this sort of thing.
This tour impressed me for several reasons: Our guide, Cody, was excellent—so much knowledge and energy. The restoration was well done and it was refreshing to see how the average family in Savannah lived during that time period, as opposed to the opulence you’ll see in most restored homes in the area. Plus, the house features actual items used by the O’Connors during their lives. For me the cost of the tour was also appreciated since I’m traveling to several cities and things add up. $8 to hear about one of my favorite authors in an authentic period setting from a passionate, welcoming docent? I’m in. Throw in an embossed collection of O’Connor’s stories and the experience adds up to my favorite part of this trip, hands down.
I am an English major and a fan of her work, so of course I loved it. Went on free museum day, again I wonder if paid tour would show more of the house.. If not then the tour would not be worth admission cost unless you are a huge fan of OConnor. My wife and kids didnt like it.
Very interesting and cheap tour. Right across the street from the Girl Scout house. Well worth a visit!
Wonderful tour! Loved every minute!
Docent was very engaging and gave great local restaurant recommendations. She was very passionate about the author. Definite must visit for literature lovers and fans of Flannery O’Conner. Lots of original items from her youth.
This place offers a very interesting learning experience. Jo, the Docent who conducted our tour, was very knowledgeable and quite enthusiastic about the subject at hand. She did a terrific job giving us an overview of the history of the house and how that related to Flannery OConnors childhood. She presented OConnors life and times in a very compelling manner. The story about her declaration that she was no longer a child at six years old was my favorite. If you are in Savannah, this is a worthwhile visit. The lovely surrounding neighborhood provides a wonderful backdrop for such a visit.
Excellent museum of a wonderful historic home. Well maintained, with a knowledgeable staff.
We loved our tour of Flannerys childhood home. Our docent, Jo, knew a lot of interesting information about Flannerys life and family, and it was clear that she has a genuine affection and respect for this great American writer. It was thrilling to see such an authentic restoration of the house to the way it was when Flannery lived there. This was one of the best moments of our wonderful trip to Savannah.
For fans of OConnor or history this is a great stop. Its an inexpensive way to see how the people of Savannah lived in the early 1900s
Read one of Flannerys short stories and then stop in for a tour. This will help you get a true picture of Savannah and the quirky nature of it!
Flannery O’Connor’s childhood home was on the top of the list for my wife’s and my visit to Savannah. Our tour guide, Cody had a wealth of knowledge about Flannery O’Conner and her family and had a fun way of presenting them. Chatting with her really made our day-and she gave us some great restaurant recommendations as well. Don’t miss this tour if you are a fan of Flannery O’Conner. The family photos, Flannery’s childhood books, and other memorabilia are priceless.
Really cool to see history and the women were very nice!
Excellent representation of 1930s era row home. Great tour and guide.
The tour was wonderful. Flannery was hilarious (excentric, serious, cute) as a child and there are pictures to prove it. The house also has a lot of interesting period furniture (a lot of it the original stuff) that people who were not wealthy had in the 1930s. The tour guide also told us what the neighborhood was like at that time. There are good books for sale and the lady we paid for the tour and books gave us free water bottles since it was such a hot day!
Closed for New Years Day, but I peeked in the windows to get an idea. Beautiful neighborhood, one of the most beautiful spots in the country. Make plans to visit Andalusia in Milledgeville as well! If you are not from Savannah, be careful driving in this area - there are many intersections where cross traffic only has a yield and they dont always yield!
Wonderful place to visit. Foundation manager is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and gracious.
Amazing tour.
I took advantage of free museum Sunday and checked it out. It is a special little jewel in Savannah and everyone there was very friendly.
Jo, our guide, was excited to share Flannerys life story with us. I came away with a new interest in OConnor and am now looking forward to reading her books!
The tour guide really knew her stuff. You could definitely tell that she was passionate about her job.
Beautifully renovated and maintained. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable .
This house was the reason I became excited about going to Savannah. Make of that what you will.Fans of Flannery OConnors work will get a kick out of this brief tour of her childhood home. Her writing was done in the home her family moved later in her life, but the home is a worthwhile time capsule showing how a newly-married couple would have lived during the Depression. If youre a fan of OConnor, historical homes, or want to see some of SCADs work in historical restoration, its totally worth the very modest admission price.
The tour was wonderful and the house was beautiful; the restored rooms and original/period furnishings gave a very real sense of the home as it was. More than that, though, the stories of the home that were shared with us were what made the visit special. Even without having been familiar with the author or her work, I enjoyed the visit thoroughly thanks to our very knowledgable and enthusiastic guide. Recommended for any fans of American literature or early-mid 20th century history.
Great tour, very educational and inclusive for all ages.
A great tour with an incredibly insightful guide. Quick, but well worth the stop.
Great tour. Really neat to see and beautiful area.
Interesting history here but not really much to see. Just another old house in Savannah Georgia
Is very nice
Great tour
Very good and interesting.
Awesome, amazing tour, lots of good history
