We had a good time. Restaurants are open for sit down eating. Otherwise food must be eaten outdoors. There are tables set up in the plaza for take out eating. Most stores are open.
This is a wonderful plaza to enjoy the cherry blossoms during springtime. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, so when the weather is nice, its ideal for a little picnic lunch.
COVID19 REVIEWDuring covid19, they transformed the Japantown Peace Plaza to a nice plaza to eat food with great importance to safety and social distancing. They have small tents outside where you can look at restaurants menus contact free. Some restaurants will even delivery the food out to the plaza to you. The service is amazing and Id love to go here again.
The peace plaza is wonderful. Lots of great places to eat around, and it all has such a fun atmosphere. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but if youre really stuck you can just park down the street at the Safeway.
Good experience and very nice location. I like the restaurants in Japan town very good food and shops too
Really enjoyed the food and Japanese feel. Was happy I could wander around and have a snack on a terasse with my dog.
Neat and clean area with some buildings and architectures in Japanese style. I hope the area was bigger and had more things to sight-see. There are many (Japanese and some Korean) shops, restaurants, and cafes in the mall. I couldnt buy anything because there were too many people in line due to a festival going on but I will visit once more to shop.
Very unique with lots of food options. Will definitely be back.
Dont call it a comeback ita more like a welcome back.. more people need to go here and enjoy the great shops and dining that have survived the pandemic.. r.i.p. to the onea that couldnt hold on. Well miss you.
My son likes to go to Jtown with me. Its kool&fun fam time.
Love this place. Great shops and food
Quaint and cute little spot. Love the shopping!
Just went to Daiso. All shelves pretty empty. Nothing to buy
A nice place to hang out for locals and tourists. We like to take our visitors here for some food, shopping and snacks. Usually we come on the weekend to pick up Japanese snacks and other groceries from Nijiya market. Many Japanese and tourists shop here.
Currently everything is outdoor to eat, restrooms are currently closed due to covid, but still a enjoyable experience for everyone.
It was the first part I went when visiting Japantown. It’s a quiet place with some benches to spend some time just enjoying it.The Japanese community is all over it, not only tourists, so it’s a good experience.Connected to the square, there is a huge gallery mall divided in two sides(East and West) with many stores and food places. It’s accessible to wheelchair users and since it’s opened I would say it’s pet friendly as well.I recommend the visit!
Great shops. Great food. Good people
Social distancing in all areas. Different then before but still a great place to visit.
Not as lively as one would imagine. However, the signs with words in Japanese showing you to say animal names, was pretty neat. There are a few eating places, and a small mall with a Japanese arcade, gift shops, convenient store, and cafeteria. Not a go to place, but still nice.
This area has many nice Japanese restaurants and shops. It is like having a small piece of Japan right in San Francisco. Since I am studying Japanese, this was a wonderful way to experience some Japanese culture and fine food.
Has alot of diffreent stores and restaurants! Three different buildings! Plan to walk alittle!
The dining pavilion they setup for Covid is well run.
Daiso is the best! Kids loved the funny looking buildings.
A small representation of the long history of Japanese culture in San Francisco! Japanese immigrants began moving into the area following the 1906 earthquake. By World War II, the neighborhood was one of the largest such enclaves of Japanese outside Japan, as it took on an appearance similar to the Ginza district in Tokyo. The San Francisco Peace Pagoda is a five-tiered concrete stupa between Post and Geary Streets. It was constructed in the 1960s and presented to San Francisco by its sister city Osaka, Japan on March 28, 1968. on the weekends, you will often find festivals happening here. If you scroll up in this Google Maps listing, you will see any upcoming festivals listed! The Cherry Blossom is one of my favorites. Whether theres a festival going on or not, this area is surrounded by plenty of great places to get authentic Japanese food! The mall, East & West are divided on either side of the Peace Plaza, has a number of restaurants and quick food choices.
This place is a preserved cultural significance in the west coast. No where in the west you will find another place just like this. Youve got shops and restaurants here with items and tastes locked and stranded overseas. Places like Vancouver or Seattle all have moved on with influences from modern day Asia, but this little hidden spot in San Francisco, similar to the China Town, has yet to convert.
Great food. Something for everyone.
Of all the places I visited while touring SF— Japantown was in the top 3. Not only is the Peace Plaza a sight to behold, but the entire are transports you. So many fun food and shopping options. If you can arrive before dusk it’s really fun to see the area transform from day to night.
Beautiful, close by to many stores and restuarants.
Its a nice, well-kept plaza with shops that feature Japanese products and culture. Daiso is a fun little store with many inexpensive yet useful items you cant find anywhere else.
A gorgeous, aesthetic, peaceful area! the shopowners were very kind and courteous, and Daiso was especially a very attractive shop.
Nice plaza with Japanese restaurants. Stroll through the neighborhood to see some beautiful Japanese architecture. Walk towards Fillmore Street for more dinning options.
Love to visit JTown a lots .Love to eat the foods.A++++
Interesting. Lots of places to eat nearby. They have a cute little arcade in the mall and some stores.
Tranquil tourist spot in between shopping malls
Be sure to see the famous Peace pagoda. There is a warren of stores and cafes throughout. Good parking garage. Fun shopping at misc stores.Seek out the famous Blums knockoff Coffee crunch cake.
This is a definitely must go to explore Japanese culture. Great Japanese food in reasonable price. There have two decent size mall with tons of great Japanese shops to see! Even a Japan base arcade games place. If you like anime, you can’t miss to explore the Japantwon!
Peace plaza is a nice peaceful place in Japantown. Convenient street parking, good foods and markets nearby.
Always love to come to Japan town
Nice place with japanese culture. It is actually very similar with the Little Tokyo in LA however a bit smaller.
Great place for shopping and photos
Pretty cherry blossoms- great place for pictures
You can get any type of Japanese foid and goods
So fun to walk around and I found a lot of cool stuff too.
Japantown is a fun ethnic shopping center with many items of Japanese interest. The Peace Plaza is a pleasant place to people watch.
Every time we come to my old city my wife has to come here. She says that she feels like being in Japan.
Really cool place to go and check out ig you have time. Nice and chilled place but also very cool as you can check out the loval Japanese culture in San Francisco
They had an Amine festival there I got some nice photos.
A place to meet friends for an Al fresco lunch to get away from the hustle and bustle inside the busy malls. Often the site of celebrations such as The Cherry Blossoms Festival where there are stages set up throughout this plaza. During those events it can get pretty crowded but all in good fun.
Beautiful and friendly little area amidst the SF hustle. Lots of shops inside the malls and along the plaza. It’s tough not to spend your whole afternoon here - there’s so much to see and do. Your biggest decision will be where to eat, as there are a lot of really great places very close by. The mall with fountains and mirrors is very 1995 and you can feel the waves of nostalgia just walking through it.
Great place!! Japanese and tourist everywhere. Often the same. As you may not know, Japanese dont travel well. So they seek out their own when abroad. Not really into strange things like blonde hair or long nose. Still there are some tasty restaurant here. Prices not too bad for San Francisco. Or Frisco as the natives call it. Try it, lets locals know you are homeboy! Get you a better price in taxis.
This is a great location to relax after having a nice meal at one of the local restaurants. Maybe even bring some snacks and enjoy the calm plaza.
Beautiful area...went to the Cherry Blossom festival.
Lively when eventful, peaceful when quiet. Best spot to chill in the city~
This place is the best place to chill with friends and eat. Their is no weed so you can enjoy the fresh air unlike the the other places in S.F. The restaurants are great and the street food brings you to Japan. Daiso is a cute shop for snacks and toys. Through Japan Town you can play arcade games eat crepes and ... Eat more.
Good food, fun shops! Really enjoyed Daiso (the dollar store) and walking around all the different shops. Parking was a fair price as well considering the coat of parking in other parts of the city.
Very nice Japonesse place and mall
A great place for to buy Japanese items and know their culture. Is small but you can find a lot of interesting shops.
People respect social distancing here, people wear masks.
Nice Asian mall with restaurants, gift shops and a supermarket. Theres a paid parking garage on site.
I love this place! Just so many stores and restaurants. Everything is just awesome there! Plus they have a huge daiso shop there so thats even better!
The plaza itself is pretty small. There are a modern pagoda sculpture in the middle of a square and a few benches scattered around the sculpture. The pieceful and quiet place. There is shopping mall close to the Peace Plaza. The mall is divided on two parts, Western and Eastern. There are a lot of shops in the mall where you can buy some specific japanese things, books, toys, etc. Also, there are restaurants and cafes in the mall.
Not interesting at all, just the center of Japan town.
It is always good to order food to go and sit outside and be with nature and see the pogoda.
If youre looking for Japanese stuff this is the place to go. Good variety of prices.
I dont know, we always go at least twice a year, its sad to see so many businesses that have left when they have the street fairs or the events its a little bit more of a exciting time to go......
Great for shopping and always clean and feels safe. Easy parking also!
My family went here after we saw a movie at the Kabuki theater. My step-mom, who lives in Southern California, said it is better than Los Angeles little Tokyo. It was a pleasant escape from the summer heat here in Sacramento. ( I live in the former Japanese neighborhood here...Sacramento should have a Little Tokyo shopping area.)
Cherry blossom festivities great
Ironically for the longest time most of the Japanese cuisines are not authentic. It is changing and I see real authentic Japanese eateries here. Keep it up.
I love it here good work Place
A piece of japan into SF. Very clean. Very kind people. I buy some food into the market... Very good products. Like in japan... I Guess
Japantown Peace Plaza is a family friendly place with lots of shop and restaurants. The Cherry Blossom festival is one of the most popular public events in the city.. Part of it is indoors which makes it perfect during the rainy season.
Small open area in Japan Town SF. Just as popular with the locals as it is with the tourists
A lively place with lots of restaurants and Japanese stores with cute stuff.
Nice clean place the restaurant that we went to add authenticator very good quality Japanese food. I my wife enjoyed. My wife is harder to please than I am being that she is original Japanese from Osaka. And she was very happy with the food and the quality in the service
A shopping mall with Japanese influence. Most store targeted Japan interest. A quiet and safe place to shop, dine, or just wander around. Easy access with buses also parking structure to park.
Was def a whole new experience that I would love to experience again! Had lots of stores with different places to eat as well! Loved the scenery and vibe will definitely be back once I can go back to the bay!!!
Had a nice time speaking with Mr. Onishi, owner of Japan Video & Media in his wonderful store. They have the finest selection of Japanese films with English subtitles in this nation.
Great place to visit but be weary on how long you are there for, Had my vehicle broken into parked right next to the plaza.
Wonderful place to walk around. We spent the afternoon walking through the mall, absorbing the sights and atmosphere. The eateries are traditional and delicious. We will go back soon.
Great place for Japanese American culture. Between the shopping mall to the Pagota this is one of my favorite places in San Francisco. The food is delicious, the shops are cutesy and the atmosphere is always pleasant. Great for a day trip to the mall. Be warned, it does close up early for the night.
Japantown has always been a cultural jewel in San Francisco until they closed the bowling alley, which used to be a diverse hub for family, friends or just hanging out solo for food and drinks. Today, they offer a small selection of shopping stores & food eateries, (we like Benihanas) and you can sit in the plaza to enjoy your meal or people watch on a nice day.
Great place to sit down and check out Japanese girls. You can also go into the mall on either side and shop till you drop.
Nice place, family friendly. If you dont like noise dont go there. Great stores.
Neat shopping mall you can find unique items usually exclusive to japanese stores although it is not very big you can see all the shops in like 2-3 hours tops.
It is a beautiful place to hangout and enjoy the day. Plus there is so many fun shops around the Plaza.
A large enough space to accommodate the community performances, like The Sakura Blossom Festival, Sumo Festival, etc. However, arrive in advance, if youd like to take pictures or videos, as the place is usually busy. Being tall enough or sitting on someones shoulders during performances might be an advantage, though.
The West Mall end is huge!! Bigger than you’d expect. Never even got to finish exploring it. The West end has tons of restaurants, snack places, authentic Japanese items, gimmicky Japanese stores, makeup, anime stores, a Japanese book & manga store, & I even saw 2 arcades.East Mall only has a large Daiso, a home goods store upstairs, a few restaurants, & 1 well-known ice cream shop then it ends at the Hotel Kabuki’s side entrance.
Excellent place to hang out.... and many options to eat Japanese food
Homeland feel for me. Just crazy parking and traffic at times. SF being SF. NO LEFT Turns. Three rights makes a left.Weather is always suspect. Always bring a jacket.
Still one of my favorite places to visit.
Very clean place with lots of options and good for hanging out with friends and enjoying the Japanese culture. Way better than in Chinatown. Japanese people are very respectful and hospitable. You will have a good time here and the food is just awesome.
Great place to shop and explore. Excellent good options with a friendly, fun atmosphere. Check it out! ^_^
Good place to relax but not much going on
