I didnt know you had to buy tickets online ahead of time, but good thing it was easy to do from your phone while in line, and the wait wasnt that long. Not that many people after 4:00pm the day we were there on a weekday. It was worth it, even though the ride was kind of short, just a couple of rounds, but it was enough. The view was pretty good. We had fun.
The SkyStar Wheel is open but you must purchase reserved time tickets online as of October 23, 2020. Masks are required in line and you will have your no-contact forehead temperature taken and be asked some standard how are you feeling questions. Parking is available in the underground lot and we paid $6 for around an hour after 5:30 pm. Only members of your party will be in the cab with you and they clean the cabs after each ride. The apex of the trip around is higher than the observation tower at the de Young, leading to some beautiful views.
One star for the waiting line, not for the ride.I bought tickets online for 12pm-1pm time slot.when we arrived, there was a huge line. We were told it moved fast and it should have taken just 20min. It didnt. After 20min, the line didnt move as much. My estimation that we needed at least 40min more. We were with a one year old. Staying in a line for an hour when you buy tickets for a specific time slot during the pandemic - nope, thanks.
Good spot to bring the kids to. Yes the views arent that great but lets face it if you want views go to a high cliff. The ride is about 15 minutes long, the cabins are clean although i didnt see any disinfecting going on at any stage. We were waiting in the line for about twenty minutes so dress warm if youre going.. great staff, well mannered.
The views are nice not super amazing but nice. the wheel goes around like 17 times and lines are super long this would be worth it if it werent $18 I think $8.50 would be better they supposedly sanitize every time people board the gondolas but seats arent sanitized and all they do is a quick wipe down with the same ol rag and some dis I disinfectant spray. Enjoy!
It was fun but in my opinion it was overpriced ($18 as of Nov20). The views are not that great compared to other wheels I have been to. The line was long but at least we were up for almost 15 minutes. They are well adapted to the covid situation with staff cleaning the booths and having aeration protocols. It possible try to book in advance online, although sometimes they allow buying the tickets on site.
Pre-purchased tickets for 8 pm and didnt have to wait long to get on the ride. However, we only made one full rotation before the wheel stopped and we were stuck in the same spot for more than an hour. Eventually the wheel was manually rotated in order for everyone to get off. No explanation or information from staff as we got off the ride.
Staff was friendly. Hand sanitizers everywhere. Wait was 30-40 minutes. Ride can be slow and goes around 4 times, altogether 10+ minutes. View is OK: parts of the park and a bit of the city. For $20, going to the zoo may be more enjoyable.
A wonderful addition to historic Golden Gate park and surrounding museums nearby. Due to Covid, expect a 40+ minutes in line.
Opening to the public Oct 21,2020. Built as part of the 150 year Golden Gate Park anniversary, this is a much anticipated addition to the park by those of us who live near it.Cars have been installed this week, final touches of paint and so on being added. Anticipated hours are noon to 10 on weekdays, 10 to 10 on weekends.Reservations required and tickets are $10 until the 25th.
If you book your visit at 7pm, I suggest showing up 7:40. The line will be shorter. Also, don’t bother showing up early, you will just have to queue on the sidewalk. You won’t be allowed into the actual line until your time starts. The view at night was not as great as I thought it’d be. You can’t see much. Will try again during the day.Was impressed with the cleaning crew, they’re doing a great job.
Social distancing in the line needs to be enforced! The staff was friendly and the view was nice at night. For a 7pm reservation, arriving at 6:45, there was a 40 minute wait for a 20 minute ride, and everyone in the queue had pre-purchased tickets. I will go back again in the daytime, and will be recommending my experience to others.
The ride itself was fine and views were good. The price was on par with a lot of tourist attractions so I am not complaining. Although considering the covid situation we are in, social distancing was not always happening especially when in line to board the wheel. There needs more enforcement or less tickets sold for each time slot. I went on a weekday and there was already a small crowd, I cant imagine weekends.
My partner and I got the VIP package. Definitely steep in price for a ferris wheel, you get leather seats and hardwood floors. And they let you ride for a long time, 20 minutes but I swear they gave me and my love longer. It was for his birthday and it was beautiful. We had good times up in the air if you can you should make it out. Night time is so beautiful amd the surrounding area is perfect for a stroll either before or after your ride!
Reservations for 11/14/2020 @ 1100. I went with 2 friends and was happy with the temperature checks and cleaning of the cabins. However, we got on and did one rotation that was stop and go as they loaded the different cabins. Then had to get off. It was supposed to be 3 full rotations that were continous. We got one round of stop and go. When we asked a worker after we got off we were told to go talk with the manager which my godmother did. She was told the only thing we could do was to put a review up.We were not able to get out 3 rotations. Which makes this highly over priced for what you get. Very disappointed! Especially since we traveled into the city to do this.
Fun enjoyable place to go not.to expensive on a weekday. Great views From the top.
Was hoping to see the whole city, but it was blocked by the hills in the park. So at night you can basically see nothing.
I was really scared at first, because Im afraid of heights (personal note ), but it was fun and the installation was safe. You could see part of the park and the city, the view is worth the scary and dizzy feeling though.
My date was too cold so we didnt get to go... but i will be going soon! It looks awesome.
Took 20 minutes for line to even start moving. Didn’t expect that long of a wait. I asked the manager for a refund because I had somewhere to be. He was very dismissive. Only gave me credit. Not the biggest deal in the world but left a very sour taste in my mouth. The company has Ferris wheels all over the country, shouldn’t be that big a deal to refund a ticket if the person never gets on the ride.
Awesome at night! I recommend. And yes the parking garage is open. We were there for about an hour and the parking lot cost only $6.50
Not what we had expected, unfortunately. We had signed up for their delayed opening ride in Golden Gate Park for the public at noon on 10/21/2020. We did this because we are pandemic sensitive and we wanted to be the first ones of the day to use the gondola in which we were placed. We arrived at 11:45 AM for the noon kick-off, and there were MANY, MANY people already in line. We had assumed that, because our ticket said 12:00 - 1:00 PM, we would be two of a MAXIMUM of 216 people (36 gondolas x maximum 6 people per car) during that time block, but that was obviously not the case. After 45 minutes in line, we had moved up to the ticket-checker, but the line then continued to wind back and forth in front of us; I asked the ticket-checker if the rest of the wait could be another half an hour; she said, Maybe. . . So we continued in line for another 15 or 20 minutes, but when we had hardly moved, we abandoned ship and left. It appeared that they would load individual gondola cars one at a time, then spin the wheel some number of rotations (3? 4? I didnt count, but it seemed very brief), then unload individual cars, then wipe down the interiors (I observed that action taking a couple of minutes per gondola by one young man - - more thorough than I expected, frankly, but not a quick process). Then, I suppose they reload the cars, but by that time we had left the line and began walking home. There are no refunds, so think hard about how long youre willing to stand in line for a view thats similar to going into the San Francisco Fine Arts deYoung Museum nearby and riding up the observation tower elevator - - theres no time limit to gazing out of the spacious observation room. So, I would say that the SkyStar Wheel was vastly over-hyped for what is offered. Its too bad. . .
Very lackluster experience. We arrived early in anticipation and excitement for this new attraction and ended up waiting an hour and a half in line to get to the wheel. It was freezing cold at the time (Not anyone’s fault) but it was allotted too many people for a one hour time slot (workers there said up to 1,000 people per hour slot) and it is a first come first serve and hour cut off even after paying for it.The ride itself was very very meh. We had 3 loops which lasted 20 minutes and had a stupendous view of dirty and fogged up windows. To top it all off, we were able to purchase two photos of ourselves in a very Disneyland like picture set for the low low price of $37 (without tax).Definitely would not go out of my way to come here and would definitely not come back.
We rode Friday afternoon, October 23. Line was well-managed and the boarding process well-organized. But, the ride itself was a colossal disappointment. We did a mere three turns, each time halting constantly for others to board/disembark. There was never a swooping rush, turning several times to enjoy the up and down, the size of the ferris wheel or the beautiful views. So, if thats all you get, it is frankly way too pricey. Seems like the main purpose of the event is to funnel the riders into a merch store where you can pick up three printed personalized photos for $96.95!
It was good. Nice ride, kinda long wait.
I love the views of San Franciso! The ride is 4 revolutions around.
Nice nice sightseeing for San Francisco. Although they could get a location close to pier 39, with better view and more tourists.Visited it today, and wasn’t excited after that at all!!- there were no line, that’s +- sanitizers around +- we were walk in, the guy in front suggested us to pay with cash $30, or with card $52 (unfortunately we didn’t have cash, so had to pay $52/ but doesn’t make sense why we pay less with cash, less $20!!! Like it looked like they collect cash for them self)- another big disappointment was, when we were on the line, there were a lot of cabins passing empty, but they put us in the same people just left, they had some one clean really quick, but cmon, if someone been sick, winded will not help. At least have someone spray the room, not just clean with windex. But I Do Not recommend this place! Especially because of the safety reasons, they should not put on the same cabin another people a minute later.
Great fun to ride in the Pod on the Sky Wheel. Great views and a fun ride!
Time-slots are a complete lie. Bought tickets, showed up on time, and was told there was over a 1.5hr wait to ride, despite having picked a specific time. We had dinner reservations, and had to leave. Company seems to be overselling to make a buck without caring bout the customer experience
Fun, still scary heights wise and you go around 6 times so if you have claustrophobia or fear of hights I don’t reccomend. Staff is so nice and queer/lgbtq friendly.
Amazing views.....fun way to celebrate 150th year Golden Gate Park.
Nice views, and in a nice location at Golden Gate Park.
IT SAYS RESERVATIONS NEEDED BUT THEN YOU SHOW UP AT YOUR DESIGNATED TIME AND THERES OVER 120 PEOPLE IN LINE, I COUNTED, AND THEY SAID ITS JUST FOR THE AMOUNT OF TICKETS THEY CAN SELL FOR THAT TIME SLOT. ITS ONLY 12 MIN AROUND, NOT WORTH STANDING IN LINE FOR OVER AN HOUR.JUST DO ACTUAL TIME SLOTS! WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME
More than an hour long line despite buying tickets weeks in advance. The ride itself is very underwhelming
So fun and clean!
Honestly this isn’t worth the very long wait
We have arrived at our reserved time and the line is out to the road
We purchased two adult tickets in advance for a slotted time. You show up to a massive line waiting over an hour. This is a tourist trap.
Pick up your trash
Meh
Good
Beautiful
Fun and expensive
Es muy divertido pero mucha adrenalina para mí..
