While I never went to Mr. Bs center, I have know Mr. B, as Joshua Benjamin Pettis since he was just becoming a teenager,,, 13-14 yrs old. He was a neighbor., living behind us here near San Antonio, Texas. Thats right he has Texan roots!! I have been a part of his creative career in his younger days, and I can tell you I have always been floored by his talent, and hard work. Also he has an amazing character, of integrity, very genuine, and sincere. He attended a magnate high school for dance and acting. He can do everything! I have gone to many performances, both acting parts in plays, and dance.. His main love was always dance. In fact, he started a company here in Texas after he graduated from High School, BENGIA ENTERTAINMENT! His dance style, and choreography skills are unsurpassed. He shares a great deal of talent, and love for his art. I told him he can dance, act, and love well. I think if you are a part of Mr. Bs center, Legends Performance Academy, you are one lucky person. I wish Joshua Benjamin Pettis all my well wishes for a great and successful career of dance~ Margie Kellogg, dear friend for life!

I am a 12 year old student at Legends Performance Academy. I have been apart of a few programs with Mr. B for the past couple of years. My first interaction with Mr. B was his dance camp a couple years ago. This was only for 1 week, yet I still knew that this instructor, director, and owner was a fun, loving, talented person. A good friend of mine has been apart of his competition team for a couple of years now and I have had many interactions with him from that. Since I would see him only because of my friend, I didnt know him very well at first, however, he treated me just like a student and friend. Last year, I had heard of his summer theater production, Lion King, and couldnt pass up the offer. He had seen my potential from the camp a year before and was quite excited to have me apart of his show. The show lasted 5 weeks and I really got a feel for what his studio was all about. Everyday that I was there, his studio felt more and more like home and my LPA family developed. I met a slough of new friends and got to get to know Mr. B even more. Mr. B taught us many techniques and lessons. He wasnt just a dance teacher though. He is super silly and has so much fun with us like you would with your bestie. He deeply loves working with kids. However, he isnt just a fun teacher, he teaches us lessons about life. He will spend a lot of time teaching you about faith, perseverance, working hard, equality, friendship, and family. Some may say that he pushes us too hard, but, he pushes us to the limit of our potential. He wants the best for our life in the performing arts and wants us to excel. He may yell and strive for perfection, but every good teacher does. He only gets upset when he sees what we are capable of when we are not giving it to him. He brings out our inner performer that we hadnt seen. Also, I may not be apart of his competition dance team, but he welcomes me into his studio just like a family member. Therefore, when I heard about this summers production of Aladdin, I was automatically signed up. I have been talking about this show non-stop for so long because I am thrilled to be back in his studio once again. Mr. B has become a friend, someone I look up to, but also family. And I know that he only has intentions of bringing out our talent. LPA is a home full of limitless opportunities.

My daughter loves Mr. B and his dance academy. I truly admire what Mr. B is working tentatively to create and that is an arts academy. He offers exposure of the arts and their various mediums to the children, allowing them to grow their young voices, ideas and creativity. My child cant tell me what time she wakes up in the morning or what time school starts, but she knows when its time to go see Mr. B (thats the first thing she tells me in the morning on the days she has classes). From what I observe, it isnt just my daughter who is so passionate about showing up to learn. I see it on all of the attending childrens faces. We have tried a couple of other dance studios in San Diego, but it was just too chaotic, unorganized, and inexplicably expensive. My child would grow tired of the classes and eventually it be more of a chore than an enjoyment. However, with Legends Performance Academy, my child wishes she could attend every day.

I have had the honor of spending an entire Saturday at this dance studio, and I truly enjoyed my visit with Mr. B and the young people! I got to witness focus, discipline, and fun all under the same roof. It was a great time. A few of the many things I observed, was the well-rounded environment and the sense of family. I highly recommend this dance academy not only for Mr. Bs great talent and skill for his craft, but also for the connection he establishes with the young people as well.

Mr. B is an extremely talented dance instructor with a passion for teaching children to love dance! He is AWESOME with the kids and my daughter had so much fun being in his dance class. If we had not moved out of state, she would still be with him now. He has excellent vision and his productions are exciting and fun for the children. Hes an amazing dance instructor and he truly loves his dancers, their parents and families. We sure miss getting to be a part of his productions!!

I am truly upset about the reviews I have read online here. Lets get one thing straight. Many kids love it here. Does no one get that!!To the parents with their 1 star reviews: You feel this way because it was not your kid(s) that had a great experience. A review is based on an individuals experience and is an opinion of said author of that review. You cannot say that these parents and students are wrong because they have nothing but great things to say about LPA. They are letting other parents know of their situation in hopes that they choose this academy to also experience a positive learning environment. To the friends and family with their 1 star reviews: You feel this way because you supposedly read another 1 star review online. Were you there when the incident happened? Can you say for sure it would have happened to you? I think not!It blows my mind that adults writing their 1 star reviews are based on another review rather than personal experience and do not see that what the instructor is doing right.

I was a student at Legend Performance Academy for about a year and as I look back on my time there and I as I read all the comments. I feel it is necessary to share my HONEST opinion.I know I should have done so a couple weeks ago...But I never had the courage to actually write a review. So here we go. During my time here I was going through the transition of about to be having my Bat Mitzvah. This event caused Me to miss a ton of practices, rehearsals and more. However The Director (Mr.B) was very supportive and understanding that this event meant a lot to me and my family. Also at Legends Performance Academy, you learn powerful life lessons that you cannot learn in just any soccer team. Mr.B gave me every opportunity that I could possibly take and or have.He MEVER talked bad about anyone. There are also two other amazing directors who work there (Ms.Billy and Ms.Isabella) who were amazing co-directors who I felt I could relate to. They have Discipline and they are good with children.I loved there routines I would love to work with them In the future along with Mr.B. However as I did have a great time at this academy, there are also some other things I would like to talk about. Some times when I was practicing with the team I felt the need to try to be better to be in the front of a routine. Also at some points when we were trying on costumes for the first time, we were not allowed to voice our opinions unless they were positive remarks. And some times if I felt uncomfortable in a routine or costume I really wasn’t not aloud to say so. I am not here to talk trash about this company I have had a lot of growth here and I would love to continue here in the future. And to all the haters who are too SCARED to confront people in person. BACK OFF, these words mean nothing and this is a form of cyber bullying. And although I do advise people to read the reviews, do not base your whole opinion on the reviews or what you heard. Like the saying goes “you never know you LOVE something until you try it”

We have had a child (age 6) enrolled for about 6 months now. She loves attending class and has made some great friends. Mr. B is a wonderful teacher, but I think she learns best because of the multi-age classes. Class sizes are small enough to give the fellow students a family-like atmosphere where they are cheering each other on and helping one another improve/perfect routines. There is also kindness when a younger student is still learning. If you think your child would do better in a more boutique setting, then this is the place for you!We also participated in LPAs summer camps and were very happy! When your child looks forward to going instead of feeling like a chore, its makes all the difference in the world! The cost didnt break the bank which helped as well!

We are the second year with LPA and Mister B. My daughter is the smallest in the group. Before LPA, I tried many places and I didn’t like the level of professionalism of these studios. They were so childish and unprofessional from my point of you. For example, one kid had been crying for 1 hour class and the instructor focused on this one kid to calm her down forgetting about the rest 10 kids in the room. Being a parent of a non-crying kid, I didn’t like it. So, instead of providing a high level of dancing, instructors were so nice and human with kids. However, I am at the studio to get a high level of education and get a good result. Finally, I found LPA and we had one month of trial. What I saw I really liked it. It reminded me my Russian dance school where everything was focused on the high standards without any excuses. Dance instructors should teach kids how to dance. That is my style. I don’t blame Mr B for shouting on my daughter when she needs that, pointing on her mistakes, and giving her some lessons of living. I see the huge progress, I enjoy my daughter, and hope that this talented man will pass all his skills to my daughter.

First and foremost, I would like to acknowledge and enjoyed a huge laugh from all the fake reviews from a disgruntled family who have nothing better to do with their time than CYBER BULLY and attack on a small business owner. That being said, POT MEET PETTY and Ratchet KETTLE! Accusing someone of bullying your child and yet youre on here to do a smear campaign against the business owner is not only SLANDER, but it makes you a hypocrite. Its pretty sad for you to sink that low, totally discredits everything you said in the first place. My child goes to the same school and is classmates with the child who was allegedly bullied by Mr. B (the instructor). The child is really sweet and was really good friends with my child. Its a shame that emotionally unstable adults can cause such drama to ruin a relationship and a friendship. I feel sorry for the child growing up in a home where they feel like theyre constantly being attacked, to play victim and basically crying wolf so that they can gain any attention negatively or positively. Trust me there have been issues between my child and theirs that have been brought to my attention. But I digress...I have nothing but the utmost PRAISE for Legends Performance Academy. My child started with their pilot after-school program. They performed the Circus Show and I was instantly amazed with the progress and the level of talent that my child exuded on the stage. Mr. B had that stage presence and sass that commanded not only the stage but the audience. Yes he was upfront about the no video capture or photography but this was because it was a distraction from the dancers. As a former dancer myself, I know for a fact that this is true. Attend ANY Broadway show and the SAME rules apply. The show wouldnt go on if the audience didnt listen, and when the audience listened, the show went on. NO RED FLAGS from me! I knew that I wanted my daughter to flourish and love the stage as much as I did.I was worried about not being able to afford dance classes for the next show my daughter signed up for the Lion King. But to my surprise, Mr. B was very approachable and he worked out a payment plan and even a discount so that my daughter can continue with lessons. The Lion King show was an AMAZING success. I literally teared up watching my daughter not only have fun on stage, but actually be another character Ive never seen before. This is what a great and wonderful teacher does to their students, they help with their students confidence and stage presence and that definitely showed with my child! My daughter was VERY apprehensive about joining the competition team. I told her to give it a try and push her beyond her boundaries so that she can strive to achieve higher goals. Mr. B has the same vision. He will not sugar coat what he needs to see or do to get to success. Hes very upfront with all his emails and most of all accommodating to everyones needs.I trust him with my child. I am giving him MY TRUST as a parent and letting him lead my most precious gift on this planet on the right path. Its not right to shelter our kids so much so that they are blind to the world. It is our job to teach our kids and to keep them learning about how this ugly world works. My experience with him and his studio truly speaks volumes on how I respect him and his business. Words cannot express how much Id like to thank him for his time to make my daughter to be a better human being. WE LOVE LPA!!

Recently, one person in particular has been trying to sabotage Mr. B and his lovely business due to a personal vendetta, however I would strongly recommend forming an opinion based on your own experience. In my own experience, all the staff at LPA are kind and helpful and really care about the kids on a personal an individual level. Not only is Mr. B a good person, he’s also a fantastic teacher who really knows what he’s talking about. LPA has always been a place of love and care, and always will be. I whole heartedly stand by this business and am rather upset to see unnecessarily mean reviews about it. Once again, please give the establishment a chance before letting a revenge review sway your opinions.

The owner of this academy Humiliated our child amongst peers, as a form of punishment by Taking A Photo (after manipulating the top section of hair to one side of a ponytail), in a mirror, Without Parental Consent to make fun of a haircut on a competition day. We advised him of the haircut 2 weeks prior & he chose to wait for competition day to bring up the issue. The hairstyles for that day were dog-ear ponytails & a ballet bun, none of which had to do with a single ponytail. When the instructor was asked, What compelled you to take the photograph?, he said, I had to do it. This was an act of malice. I advised that it was a bullying act & he implied that it was justified because the hed suffered more in youth & as an adult. Shouldnt This Make An Adult More Compassionate Towards A Childs Feelings? I cannot understand why he didnt have a private conversation regarding any issues but instead chose to bully a child. This instructor then exacerbated the issue by lying & advising that the kids were doing each others hair & brought it to his attention. Children at this academy have never styled our childs hair much less on a competition day.Acting, Dance, & Singing lessons are offered by this One Man Show. We were given a schedule with instructors names only to discover the instructors were assistants that showed up to help sporadically. Mandatory expectations included: 1. Leaving all dance attire in studio with no lockers, 2. Children changing in & out of dance attire in the studio without a pop-up changing pod. 3.The censure of birthdays if on class days, which were 3 hrs. on Tues., Wed., Thurs. & Sat. And, while on the subject of birthdays, we received an email requesting monetary only gifts in celebration of his birthday. 4. Meditation/Prayer as part of class. Our child only had a total of six 50 minute beg. stretch/ballet combo classes before coming here but was sent to a small room to self-learn the routine for the 1st competition. The instructor also discussed the private lives of parents whose children are no longer with the academy & told the kids they better not go to school & repeat it. While our child was attending 2 different families issues were discussed in class that of a mom & another regarding a couple. This studio runs helter-skelter with rapid changes sent via email regularly. Competition was chaotic with our costumes arriving without tags in cardboard boxes while other studios had costumes in garment bags, or in Rack Rolling Foldable Dance Bags. The owner also registers to dance with the children for personal recognition. The Pro is that 100% focus goes into the instructor involved routines. Also, the studio doesnt have closed circuit monitoring or clear windows to view class when the doors are shut. If you arrive very early, as we did, the instructor will shut the door & not open it until a few minutes before class Is over. Other studios leave the door open. Most Importantly, this instructor doesnt have an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Education in Child Psychology or Child Education but made it mandatory that the students write their personal experiences in a journal because of the movie Freedom Writers. When the journals werent personal enough he instructed the kids to open-up to him. We requested the return of the journal and it, to date, still has not been returned. It is unknown what this instructors priority is but this studio has one of the cheapest rates & you get exactly what you pay for. The Summer program rate is high at $450 per child as the flyer states, especially when other studios have multiple instructors with posted resumes. If you are okay with all the above and are looking for a studio that will get your child awards recognition rather than proper lessons, as do other studios, this might be the place for you. I now check for CPS Permit registration, Food Sellers Permit & Food Handlers Card as this business made popcorn, cotton candy & sold food on premises, & that proper dance classes are actually occurring.

My daughter was having many self esteem issues due to her learning disabilities (dyslexia and ADHD). We were lucky to find LPA and she joined the summer Lion King play. She enjoyed working with Mr. B so much that she asked to audition for LPAs dance competition team. I was hesitant because of the amount of time the students needed to practice each week. However, she has been a part of the dance team for the past year and her self esteem has grown tremendously. It has also been a huge help because she knows she needs to do the work to do well in school or she cannot be a part of the team. Mr. B will say academics come first. I cannot thank Mr. B and his instructors enough for all they have done to help my daughter find a place she feels comfortable and enjoys going to. Recently she even decided to choreograph a routine for her schools talent show. Mr. B is eccentric and strict, but all of this leads to a multi-award winning dance team. I look forward to continuing on with him and seeing my daughter continue to develop into a professional performer. If your child needs a place to feel welcomed and loved, while still growing as a professional dancer/actor, I would highly recommend checking out LPA.

Anybody find it extremely funny that the ONLY bad reviews are all by the same last name Patton? My thing is, if you’re going to post multiple bad reviews and pretend like it’s from different people, try at least changing your last name on the accounts lmao. I’ve had dance training and posing training by JB for over 2 years and my experience has been more than amazing! Entirely professional and fun to work with. So my advice to the Pattons, just move on and stop making a ridicule out of your family. Also, why are people leaving reviews saying, “I was thinking of enrolling my child but I didn’t after reading the reviews”? Ok, then WHAT ARE YOU REVIEWING!? You didn’t have an experience at all with this company so do not review it as such. Way to embarrass yourselves.

I first heard about legends performance academy at my daughters school last year where she was able to participate in a circus performance. I was initially thrilled at the opportunity for my daughter and was so excited about this performance. This performance should have been a red flag not to enroll my daughter into this academy. The instructor used inappropriate language at an elementary school, using terms like “ratchet”. I felt this kind of language was unacceptable for such a young audience. The instructor also, moments later, stopped the performance due to proud parents wanting to take photos and videos of their children and advised that all parents needed to put them away or the show would not continue. As shocking as this was due to his tone and announcement, everyone complied and the show went on. Children have performed just fine during school performances on the same stage for winter performances etc. so why couldn’t we record our kids on our cell phones which can still be done without a flash. Shortly after, even though having mixed feelings at the instructors behavior and demeanor at the elementary school, my daughter insisted on being part of the summer program which gave her a chance to star in the lion king. I couldn’t say no to her as I wanted her to experience any opportunity afforded to her. This was a choice that I soon regretted. The instructor advised parents could make 3 installments to cover the cost and had until July 22nd to pay the remaining amount. On July 3rd, I was in the middle of preparing my daughters birthday and received a phone call from the instructor whom I thought was calling to possibly wish my daughter a happy birthday. Boy was I wrong! He called and demanded the 3rd installment on this day although I had just paid the 2nd installment and the email stated I had until July 22nd. He was extremely confrontational on this call and didn’t even apologize for any any possible miscommunication on his end. Can you imagine trying to celebrate your daughters birthday and then receiving this type of call? He was not understanding of the circumstance or what I was in the middle of that day and didn’t say I could call the next day or at least the day after the holiday to allow me to get back to my daughters birthday. He remained on the call until I provided the full payment. While I realize most people would have hung up I did not as I did not know what confrontation I would come across at a later time if he was at this level on the phone. I have screens shots of the date of call from this individual as well as copies of my bank statement as proof of this phone call and interaction. I also have a copy of the email he sent advising of payment for this play. So if needed I can remind the instructor of the events that took place that day if he does not recall. Long story short, she finished out the play even though I always felt uncomfortable around the instructor after this call. The primary reason why my parents started helping to drop off and pick up my daughter. Please also know this instructor provides children candy to increase their energy. I’m not a nutritionist but I can guarantee that giving children candy is not healthy and I believe there are healthier alternatives to help any persons energy level let alone a child who is growing. I have a copy of the email advising about candy and nutrition. The “dance studio” is in an inconvenient location with little to no parking. The space is extremely small due to being part of an old motel. There are also a lot of transients in this area so I was always uneasy at what could happen to me or my daughter at any given time. If it was an option I would give no stars to this facility and this instructor, so 1 star it is. I can say that the one star could be that there was a delightful assistant named Mr. Star. I wish he ran this place and if he ever opened his own business I would be sure to sign up! Also, only a handful of children enrolled out of ALL who performed at the circus show at the elementary that speaks volumes!

And I think it has been a great experience at LPA. Everyone is friendly here. THERE IS NO DRAMA. I promise. Mr. B isnt one of those directors who are really sweet to a child. If your director is like that, thats a unsuccessful team. Being here has changed my life and my thought on dance. We came upon a Groupon for LPA’s summer camp five years ago. Well, the rest is history as our daughter begged us to join the Academy and we’ve been so happy ever since. LPA teaches a diverse repertoire of dance, from ballet to hip hop in addition to teaching the kids stage presence, performance skills, and confidence both on and off the stage. The group at LPA feels like an extension of our family and we are thankful to be part of it. It is reasonably priced and while disciplined at times, has given our daughter a solid foundation to do something she loves.
