Vin de Syrah is one of San Diegos almost best kept secrets. Secret because you had to find the entrance to the Wonderland . I was referred to this famous San Diego haunt by my front desk agent at The Grand Colonial Hotel in la Jolla @ The Grand Colonial Hotel.I told him I wanted something different unique and full of action and it was just that & more. The bartenders were friendly witty and attentive. we all know that Alice finds an edible that says eat me and finds a concoction that says drink me .To stay in theme, I wore a black and white polka dotted outfit. I brought an apple and I put the words eat me next to it. Well the guy next to me ate it. My bartender makes a concoction and place the words drink me next to it. The drink was called The Viceroy. It was a refreshing drink of vodka served and infused with a very thinly sliced cucumber the drink was nothing short of refreshing yet mesmerizing. My taste buds were dancing in my mouth and I was ready to enjoy the evening. I included pictures of my evening. You will see the very unique & Chic decor I took a picture with the band during a Thursdays live music night.

Great experience overall. I went for Galentines Day and it was an great event! There bartenders were still very attentive even though they were extremely busy! The food was just as good as the cocktails + wine. I would love to come back from another event. Make sure you order the Kimchi Deviled Eggs!!!!

One of my favorite spots downtown!! Perfect if you just want to grab a glass of wine with a friend, or party it up after 10pm! The underground entrance adds a speakeasy vibe to the place, and the Alice in Wonderland theme makes it really stand out from any other bar in the area! You can even reserve private wine tastings!! This is a great place for a date! My boyfriend and I love the atmosphere and the music! We absolutely love the decor, and it is such a fun place to visit. The drinks were well made, too! Not too strong, and not watered down.

I absolutely LOVE Vin de Syrah. Whether youre going out to dinner, drinks, or dancing, its the best spot. The wine selection is fantastic as well as the appetizers & food to complement it. Even if youre not into wine, they offer a variety of unique cocktails as well. We personally went for a girls night out getting wine and ended up staying until midnight dancing the night away! Around 10 is when the DJ starts setting up, so keep that in mind if youre going for a quieter, more intimate night.Fantastic service and beautiful ambiance. Its one of my favorite spots in san diego and is a total gem. They also offer private tastings, which is next on my list! Whether youre local or visiting, Vin de Syrah is a must!

The atmosphere here is like sharing a glass of wine with the smoking caterpillar in Alice in wonderland minus the smoke in your face. Try to go before the evening rush and its a nice place to unwind.

This place is amazing! We booked a at table for the night club for a bachelorette party this weekend. The staff was incredibly welcoming and easy to work with. They even went out of their way to help us with minor decorations and touches at our table for our bride. Special shout out to Jessie and Ki! Thank you for helping us surprise our bride!

Very fun ambiance! We went in for a tasting at about 7:30 on a Saturday and they asked us if wed like to do the sit-down food pairing wine tasting because they had a few open spots. We learned a lot and drank a lot! Ive heard it gets packed at nighttime but we left at 9:15 and it was still pretty empty so if youre worried about a line just get there before 10

So everything down to the management of this place is amazing!!! I went a little crazy with how much food I ordered but nothing disappointed. I loved the meat and cheese board with a bottle of the imported Riesling. Also, the macaron desserts were awesome! Ended up getting two orders because I wanted more. The music and the vibe of the place as a whole was awesome!

Absolutely enjoyed the ambiance of this little place. Small menu but very tasty selection. Great wine bottle prices which was quite a pleasant surprise. They have little shows on different nights which is an added bonus if you are there at show time. After 10 pm they do remove the bar stools for the evening switch over, so just be mindful of that if you happen to be grabbing dinner or snack at the bar.

This spot is perfect for a cozy hideaway downtown, come here and order a delicious bottle of Italian red and make yourself comfortable in their giant booths while you wait for a charcuterie board. My favorite part about this wine bar is how its underground and feels like your going down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland. The theme is carried throughout and really gives it a cool vibe.

If you want a super fun and unique experience, definitely try this place out. It’s a hidden (literally ) gem in San Diego with a really cool Alice and Wonderland vibe to the place. The food is amazing and charcuterie board style. Definitely try the wine flights and the boards on the menu! I already can’t wait to come back

If zero stars was an option, this would be one of them. There was a bouncer outside, and after watching other customers wait, we also decided to get in line. Reportedly the bar was over capacity but many people leaving said they werent crowded. We thought staff was telling customers to say that; after all why wait in line, but unfortunately it was true. The bar was not over capacity at all. Shame on them. Do not waste your time on this place.

Despite my excitement to come here, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The red sangria was pretty solid, and you cant beat a decent glass of wine for 7 bucks at happy hour, but any place can make a solid sangria and sell wine. The cocktail list is very interesting, unique, and appropriately priced. However, both cocktails I tried (pepe le treuse and El Diablo) were too sweet, like I was on a cruise ship sweet. The kimchi deviled eggs were good, though I didnt notice much kimchi. Im honestly not sure if I would come back unfortunately.

Like an upscale dive bar with more natural conversations at the bar. Got some sour beers with my cousin ($15 each) and thought that was an interesting taste. Was like a warhead decided to invade a beer. Id definitely go back with more friends but be warned it gets packed here on Fridays, Saturdays and Padres game nights.

Place was fun afterhours. Good music. Drinks where a bit weak. But over all was fun.

This is a really awesome speakeasy style bar/restaurant that has an amazing selection of fine wines and great bites to go with it! They have this super fun Alice in Wonderland style theme of going down a rabbit hole that leads you to this shrub wall where you feel lost (like wait how do we get in, wasn’t there supposed to be a bar here??) It’s a must see if you have the chance and are in the downtown San Diego area they also have live acoustic music that really sets the vibe for the night

The bar is great and very nice but dont book the wine tasting experience, is expensive for what they offer. Also it is not in a quiet room so it is really hard to hear what the host is saying and they add a 20% surcharge for it. Not worth it!

The vibe is one of my favorites of any bar, and the specialty cocktails ate delicious. A bit pricey, so good for happy hour or a drink or 2 to start the night.

It was really underwhelming in comparison to the hype that the paintings down the staircase give you. Along with the fact that this is a speakeasy, I was expecting more whimsy and wonder, and was not impressed with the atmosphere.Food was subpar for being as decorated and full of class as the drab surroundings suggest, and the bartender informed us that since were in a wine bar, that he had no idea about the beer selections. None of the food paired well with beer or wine in my opinion, but each have their own tastes. I wont be returning.

The Vin de Syrah is one of the most fun spots in the Gaslamp in downtown San Diego!! If you can find it, and then find the proper entrance, you will walk into an Alice-in-Wonderland atmosphere with huge overstuffed chairs, the gardens and vines everywhere, just an extraordinary experience in all! I cannot recommend it highly enough, I know once you find how to get in, you will never want to leave! The prices are moderate, the food is excellent, the service fast and friendly! Please dont miss one of the rarest finds in all of the Gaslamp!

This is the most magical bar adventure in the world. Ive taken everyone I know to this underground bar. The search is half the fun trying to figure out where the heck the entrance and hidden door is ! Total alice in wonderland vibe.

Theyve got it all. Sneaky speakeasy entrance, phenomenal jazz musicians, huge drink selection, charming ambiance. We got so lucky stumbling in here for our first bar in San Diego and I couldnt be happier with how it played out.

Vin de Syrah what can we say?! We love this place and always a must when we are in town! We have been here several times and love bringing new people to figure out how to get it in. I love the TV inside; you can watch other’s try to get in. So much fun! The cocktails are amazing, never had something I did not like, even dealers choice! The food menu is small, but everything we have had we have loved. This time we came during Comic Con and the bartenders were joining in all the fun! It really is the place to go for a snack and an amazing cocktail. We always recommend this place! Vin de Syrah, keep doing what you are doing, we also love the Alice in Wonderland vibe! Awesome!

We enjoy coming here to dance. People here are just chill and out to have fun, not make trouble. We are all friendly with each other and so is the staff. It does get pretty crowded though.

Ive been a fan and regular since right after they opened the doors (I believe its been) 10 years ago.Lets start with the entryway which is a descending staircase that constantly sporting some great mural. Once inside the down the rabbit hole theme is on point. It is a perfect mix of masculine and feminine touches. A couple of my favourite things is the ever-changing light fixtures over the bar and the long natural wood table in the center of the bar where the wine tastings are done each weekend. (Definitely make a reservation and get yourself to a tasting one Friday or Saturday. It will be the highlight of your weekend.)The bar. Syrah has a full bar not just beer and wine which makes it the best wine bar ever! The bar staff are all excellent at coming up with something or knowing how to expertly make what you request.Food. Syrah is not a restaurant but does have some fantastic munchies by way of paninis, salads, and the most delicious chacuterie boards in the city.During the week, the venue tends to be a bit more casual unless there is an event. If you are looking to get fancy then don your best glad-rags and stop in on a Friday or Saturday night.Friday nights are my fave because that is usually when the Ladies of Rouge perform. They are a phenomenal burlesque group that perform around the city. There is always a headlining DJ on the weekend as well perfect for shaking the tush and getting in some good cardio.Finally the staff...they are friggin awesome!Go...drink...be merry!

It was just so cool. Underground? With a secret door? And the ambiance inside was awesome. It was the first stop in a pub crawl, so we didnt order from the regular menu, just from the pub crawl special, but we are totally going to hit it up next year sans pub crawl. If the regular menu is as good as the custom we will have no complaints.

Very interesting spot. The speak-easy vibe was great and we went on a Sunday when it wasnt very crowded at all. The happy hour specials are pretty inexpensive too. We had both the red and white sangrias, both were really tasty, but if I had to pick one it would be the white.

Uhhhh wow this is the coolest bar I have ever been to. The bartender Theron taught me more about wine in 3 minutes than I have learned in the rest of my life. He tasted several bottles based on what I thought I liked and provided the best drink I have had in my life. Amazing.

Loved our bartender and my drink was perfection! The cheese board however was an affront to humanity and the year-old bread that came with it can only be likened to a slap in the face by an old woman.

Always a favorite, great wine list and dimly lit laid back vibe with big booths for groups. The entrance is down a flight of stairs but I think there’s an elevator around the corner.

Adorable and extremely comfortable space for a nice cocktail with friends. The cheeseboard may seem pricey, but it was very tasty. This is a lovely, afterwork place to just slip beyond the looking glass for a while.

This place has a great vibe, great drinks, great decor. the range of music taste is wide here. One night youll get edm another night youll get typical ratchet music, and of course top 40.

Very cool bar. I really liked the Alice in wonderland theme and thought the drinks were made well. Our crew enjoyed the performance and we enjoyed the dj as well. The bathroom assistant had just about every cologne, mint, hair gel, toothbrush, to nail clippers you could ever need but thats not really my style.

Nice airport spot for some peace and quiet. Great wine flights with lots of variety and price ranges. They have food too although you wouldnt expect it from the simple appearance. Also convenient located outlets at the bar for a phone top up. Highly recommend this place.

Fun bar with great interior design and ambiance. Dance floor was fun but I’m only giving 4 stars because they cap the amount of people that can be inside at a very low number. As a result the place felt a little empty at times you expect it to be going off.

Loved this venue! We went earlyish, around 7 before it got crowded and it was really nice. The decor was really cool and unique. The sangria and the food was delicious. The service was great. It got really packed and loud later in the evening--mini Burlesque show and then a DJ but before that it was quiet so you get the best of both worlds (quiet intimate bar/lounge then loud crowded club scene)

This was just my experience: waited 15 mins to get in only to realize that it was not very crowded inside. Once inside probably wait 5-10 mins at an understaffed bar to get a drink. I thought after leaving a big tip it would be faster to get my second drink, it wasnt. The bartenders were nice when they finally got to you. The decor was fun and different. Overall though it was a lot of unnecessary waiting. I understand if the bar is packed but it wasnt. I think if youre not in a hurry its a nice bar.

Coolest place Ive been to in SD. I wont give up what makes the entry way to this place so awesome, but great job to whoever thought of it! Flawless execution and endless entertainment watching the uninitiated try to get in on camera.Awesome decor and style inside. The experience is pretty varied depending in what day you go. Prices are on the higher side. Great spot though and a great place to go if you are trying to show off how well you know the city to out of town people.

We showed up around 10pm and the line wasnt that long. Go down the stairs with walls covered in artsy graffiti and you enter through a wondrous door camouflaged in greens.The club was spacey and beautifully decorated in Alice and Wonderland theme! Lil crows, umbrellas from the ceiling, bird cage lamps, ginormous chairs, deck of cards from the ceiling... I love all the details! It got pretty crowded around 10:30 and finding a place to sit was a bit challenging.DJ was great but the dance floor was small. Yummy wine! I want to try their cheese plate next time!
