Did this escape room some time ago with my sister and her husband. There was only one staff member there when we did it but he was very good at his job and very friendly as well. We had a great time figuring out the clues and loved the mystery. Would definitely recommend for anyone who loves solving mysteries and/or is looking for an activity to do in San Diego with their friends or family.

Having done escape rooms before, this one was truly different than any others, mostly because we were able to come and go to the bathroom rather than be locked inside for the hour long adventure that most escape rooms typically do. I do not know if it was for the group of friends I was with, or if it was just this set up overall, but, I and my friends had a great time! We did the Lazarus Crystal challenge and that one had some parts in it that stumped us, but only because when you have too many personalities in one room not wanting to listen to one another, it can create a bit of chaos, but, thats all in the fun, correct?! The staff provide you with assistance if needed and make it lively with their presentations and the like prior to entering. I highly recommend this adventure and look forward to going again in the future.

This was a last minute purchase and I didnt know what to expect- I havent done an escape room experience before. I went with a friend of mine who enjoys puzzles and we had the best time! I called the day before to inquire about a reservation and the gentleman on the phone was professional and very helpful. Courtney, who welcomed us upon our arrival, was a pleasure and a great host. The entire experience from start to finish was truly awesome and I am so excited to try another escape room- possibly the virtual reality experience! Highly recommend.

Don’t be fooled like we were by their high rating. Most of the 5-star reviews were written by profiles with only 1 review. This barely passed as an escape room. They boast of their technology and lack of locks like other rooms. While true that there were no locks, there was also no technology. Each “level” is manually triggered by the game master after you perform certain (somewhat random) tasks to his liking. There’s only one room, but if you like red herrings, you’ll be pleased to know there are enough to feed an army of sharks. There was next to no logic in the flow or the puzzles (if you can call them that). We reached the objective with plenty of time, but frankly we were just glad it was over.

My first time at the Enigma HQ escape room in Little Italy. It was a great experience from purchasing tickets on line until the end of the escape. Robert/Brian Hacker was funny, knowledgeable, and professional in his introduction to the day. We were taken into our room and left to find the clues, all the while, the TV monitor offered some advice and gave us the hints we asked for, we were kept focused on the solution without being given the answers. It was a fun filled experience and I will do it again! (There were no hidden fees or surprise charges!)

Customer service was great, the host had a friendly and energetic attitude. The escape room itself is one of my least favorite escape rooms (Lazarus Crystal). I would not recommend that room. I have not tried any of their other rooms, since this was my first impression, I wouldnt be inclined to return. This review is only about the Lazarus Crystal room.

Our family of 4 (mom, dad, 13 yo and 10 yo) had a great time and we escaped with 6 minutes to spare! We found ourselves in Little Italy after the Farmers Market was over, and called to inquire about open time slots. Rico was very accommodating and squeezed us in. We met trainee Robert in the elevator on the way up, and both game masters made sure we had a great time. Unique puzzle set up with challenging puzzles. We did require a couple clues but definitely manageable with kids. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing experience at Enigma, doing the Crystal escape room. My girlfriend and I were new to this and were not really sure what to expect. Our Game-master, Robert, who intro’d us and ran the room for us was such an awesome guy, passionate, and absolutely made the experience what it was for us. I would recommend this escape room for sure!

Brynn was enthusiastic and clearly enjoys her role. We thought the puzzles were more intriguing than some other typical escape rooms (instead of the usual lock boxes and number codes, there are letter cyphers and higher level associations). It came down to the wire but we beat the challenge. Definitely would go back.

First of all, customer service is amazing here. Megan, our game master, set a fun tone for the escape room. 5 stars for this aspect. As for the escape room itself, it was pretty challenging and fun. Out of the larger and smaller room, we did the smaller room since it was just two of us. This made it more difficult to escape without using more clues. So I recommend playing with a larger group! The design of the room is great and pretty immersive. Its neat and nothing looks broken or out of place. Since Ive done other escape rooms, I cant help but to compare Enigma to those other ones in Los Angeles. Thats why Im giving it 4 stars. One thing I do like is how progression is done by the game master, not by mechanisms. This ensures that even though youre doing something right, your progress wont be stopped by a faulty mechanism. This one is great and you definitely shouldnt miss out on this one (especially considering its one of the better-priced private escape rooms in San Diego).

Friendly staff. The Lazarus Crystal Escape Room was good but not my favorite escape room. Its good for smaller teams since it is linear and would be ideal for groups of 2. We were 5 and it was too many people since it only takes 2 people to solve and the rest stand around. Not ideal for beginners since the concepts are more experienced based. The technology mentioned on the website is an iPad and a video. We enjoyed ourselves but was not a favorite room.

Went with my family and it was awesome. We brought my 12 year old daughter and two teenage nieces and it was totally appropriate for youth to participate. The adults helped with the more difficult puzzle pieces. We all had a blast and would highly recommend this place. We got great tips from the game host. We solved it with 10 minutes to spare and only 4 clues

We went to Enigma on Sunday spontaneously on our way to paint ball just to check it out and see what is was all about. We had 8 kids with us and learned that calling ahead would’ve been better than just showing up with that many people. However, the staff was extremely accommodating and offered to open the other venue in Little Italy for an escape room experience that all 8 kids could play. We accepted and were very pleased with the venue and the escape room. The staff far exceeded our expectations by being accommodating and offering another option for the kids. We will definitely be back to try the VR gaming and other services offered byEnigma. Thank you for a terrific experience and being so friendly and willing to offer other options. We really appreciated that and everything about our time there. Thanks again.

We did the Lazarus Chrystal puzzle with a group of 5, and it was a blast. It was our first escape room but the clues were difficult but solveable. The puzzles were fairly linear but it did require a lot of discussion amongst the group to figure out, so everyone was participating. We made it out with 10 minutes to spare. Dallas was our host, and he was great. Would definitely recommend.

On 5/21/2019 we went to explore Enigma. This was a special night celebrating life and just one year earlier I had given my kidney to my friend whom was able to share a fun night at Enigma. Although it was hard and we did not get out, Ryan made our experience fun and exciting. It also allows our group to see how smart actually arent! Lol! Im kidding. But seriously, I would try another room for sure now that I kind of know how it works. Ryan, you made our night special and we enjoyed our time. Thank you Ryan and Enigma!

The room is one of the best designed Ive done in SD. Tough but doable, fun, good mix of technology and satisfying design. Once you figure something out, you feel like a genius. Room hangs together well, everything makes sense in some way. A very solid experience. Photo booth at the end is a nice touch.

Brynn was an awesome host! She was very patient with us when our group of 7 were a few minutes late and stayed patient when one our team members was more than a few minutes late. While we were waiting for our other friend she was a lot of fun to chat with. I only wish we could have chatted more about her bard character. The escape room itself was a lot of fun. I thought the video introducing the setting of the escape room was pretty cheesy but I am all about that role play so I loved it. It is a smaller escape room than others I have tried but that just meant we didn’t have to move as much to collect all of the clues before beginning to solve the puzzle. The puzzle itself was challenging and creative. Honestly my friends are good at this stuff and I got carried hard. Seriously not sure what I contributed that day but it was fun!

We have experienced several other escape rooms. This was the least interesting. Professional design but Not many if any crafty mechanical features. Single room. Too much video, room made for high turnover volume, less moving parts and things that need to reset for next group.Glad to hear others enjoyed this escape room, just not our preference.

This is a very fun experience and I definitely recommend it to any age group. They tweak it and provide hints if you need help. I came here with my wife and my brothers. Youngest one in our group is 10 and oldest was 23 and we all had fun. The puzzles are challenging but absolutely doable. There is a fairly eerie and creepy feel to the room but not scary. This escape room was slightly more clever than the others I have participated in, but Ryan really was the best part. He had jokes and light banter for days ... I also wouldnt mind one of his jump suits . The entry can be a bit of a Hassel, but just pull up the name on the intercom and Ryan will let you right in ... Jumpsuit and all. So get off your butt already and get to escaping from this room!

The Lazerus Crystal (Little Italy): I visited with four co-workers as a team building exercise. The storyline, the room, the difficulty level... all of these things were better than average. The one element that brought down the entire experience was the host. He was unwelcoming, completely unenthusiastic, and indifferent. He acted annoyed and bothered that we were even there and it soured the mood from the moment he buzzed is in from outside.customer service matters!!!!

My wife and I gave Enigma HQ a shot since we have become avid puzzle room enthusiasts. We have tried a handful in the last few years so we were very interested in trying this one knowing that it was going to be solved a bit differently. The location is easy to get to from the freeway and in a safe neighborhood of downtown. All the equipment and spaces were new, neat and clean and the room itself was very impressive. The game itself was refreshing because in order to solve the room, you need to follow the stages rather than search and destroy the room looking for clues, keys and combos. The stages are well thought out and are not overly challenging to where someone would want to give up. The theme is unique and the technology used for the room is absolutely amazing. The staff was very welcoming and provided just enough hints for us to make our way through the story. The staff has stated that they area planning on one or two more rooms in the next few months so we are anticipating trying out more challenges at Enigma HQ!
