I went to Medina for some peace and to clear my head during this trying time. My dog and I found quiet places to sit and relax throughout the unpaved trails. The tall trees and the sound of the River gave us respite. I saw the paved trails had a bit more traffic, including bikes so we steered clear. Trail monitors make the area feel safe. We sat at the well kept demonstration garden before leaving. Very nice day!
This is our favorite nature walk in our area. The staff does an excellent job keeping it maintained. It has options for those who want an easy walk as well as for those who enjoy a more difficult dirt trail. We love it !
Its a good trail. We did level three and it took us about 50 minutes walking. We stopped a couple of times to take in the view. Caught a glimpse of an armadillo and got to see the stream from medina river. It was very peaceful. Glad that its not too far from home.
This is one of my favorite parks. So many side trails, the main trail is HUGE. Very well kept and mostly paved.
Nice place to walk and and relax after a long day, trials are nicely marked they have qr bar codes to learn about the environment and animal/insects. Nice river trail, but it would be nicer if they took out the tires from it
A good place to trail/hike. It’s natural which is always a pro for me. My dog loves it!
We go for the pokemon fishing and a really nice place to hang out.. They have volunteers who patrol alot and its a safe place.. Its also where my girlfriend goes to take her lunch break and go for a run after work..
Its a beautiful trail. Some parts are paved and others arent. Theres a map to follow. The restrooms have been clean every time.
Scenic trail, concrete path
Beautiful and peaceful area, however the Greenway is the most underdeveloped paved trail weve been on. It appears there are on- going improvements.
My mom and I come here every now and then. We love the trail thats along the river . Just under an hour. We do this one cause it has the most shade. We will be back when weather gets cooler . Plan on doing the 3 mile trail to Jett rd and applewhite rd.
We really enjoyed the beautiful trails. There are both paved and unpaved trails stretching out about 18miles. Love the river!
Very clean and beautiful. Different levels of paths. We went on a Saturday, and it wasnt crowded at all.
Great place to go for a hike or a bike ride during this time of social distancing to get some fresh air
Gorgeous area, not busy. Easy trails. Pay attention to the signs and watch out for dangerous wildlife (mostly snakes) and poison ivy.
My dog loves swimming here. I do wish they would fix some of the trail. I got hurt.
I love this area. Theres different hiking levels, picnic area, camping, and fishing.
Love it here! So many different paths to take and various different plants. My family and I enjoy the scenery. We also see some fishing in the river which is cool.
Had a great time hiking the trails. The river was nice and we saw some great Texas wildflowers in bloom, curious cows, lots of birds, a baby snake, and a super cute rabbit. Lots of trail options!
Great place great trails so many trails cant wait to try them all so peaceful
One of my favorite trails. I especially like that the area is not full of traffic. Has shorter trails. plus lengthier ones that connect to Pleasanton rd and eventually all the way to mission reach. They have both natural trails and paved for bikes or wheelchairs. You could definitely pack a lunch and eat by the water in a few spots. You might get chance to see some wildlife, and during the right months you can see the wildflowers. Or bring your dogs for a walk. I know people like to fish here and there is also a spot for launch for kayak. They also have large pavilion with tables.
A best kept secret on the Southside. Summer tips: The trail is long and we took our dogs on the hike for over a mile before we saw any points of interest. Take lots of water for your dogs as there is spotty shade on the way. We decided to turn around as this may be a better trail for seasoned walkers/hikers and bikes and not for small dogs/pets with conditions. Wear sunscreen. The area is beautiful. Were definitely coming back with camelbacks and without the pets. :) This would be better for the pups in the cooler months.
Medina River Natural Area is as natural as it gets folks. I’ve been hearing about it for a while now and finally got to experience it yesterday.500+ acres with over five miles of hiking and biking trails. Some paved and some not paved. My favorite trail was the non-paved Rio Medina Trail. This trail is one of the best kept secrets in San Antonio. The trail meanders along side the Medina River and is under the canopy of 100-foot-tall Cottonwood, Elm, and Pecan trees. I do most of my hikes in the Texas Hill Country and the trees out there just don’t get this tall. Make sure you “slow your roll” on this trail and give yourself some time to appreciate it and take it all in.This natural area also connects to the Howard Peak Greenway Trail system via the Medina Chaparral Trail. Within the park, it is a paved 2.81-mile trail, but it continues for a few more miles outside of the park. Lot’s of inclines and a lot of narrow switchbacks guide you up and down the hills. There is water available at the starting point but then not again for 2.81 miles and it does get hot out there.
Love this park n the donkey lady bridge is under construction
I love hiking and this place is awesome, however, it’s too natural for me! which is not a bad thing at all but it was...interesting. Caution snake signs, poison ivy signs, loud insect noises, huge wasps and hornets, very tall trees. If the freaking Amazon in the middle of the city is your cup of tea, have at it.
This park is totally awesome. Im going there walking in jogging everyday that Im home here in San Antonio. The wildflowers are blooming everythings in bloom and it smells so pretty. Theres Sunnyside to the park and then you can be in the shaded area by the beautiful Medina River with the Clearwater. The big cypress trees are a sight to behold.
Absolutely love this place! Pet Friendly, Picnic Perfect, Great trails for biking and hiking. Perfect for all ages. Great Pavillion area, staff is always riding around checking on visitors. Safe. Great for learning. Didnt realize they had camping until recently and my cubscouts and parents loved the experience!
Medina natural area trail is a great trail for hiking and biking and it now extends almost to the mission reach trail.
Nice area. Great fishing spots but lots of currents. We all Still enjoy the trails
Beautiful, secluded trails tucked away just off the highway. Restrooms were kept well and flowers and birds are abundant.
Nice out of the way location to walk, not much traffic. Nice canopy of vegetation, next to a river. What I have seen of the reserve is clean. I have not had the opportunity to walk many of the trails. I look forward to further surveying the area. Although there are warning signs for wild animals; I have not seen any, and that is not a bad thing.
This is a beautiful area to walk, jog or ride a bike. The river is peaceful and lovely. There are both paved and unpaved trails and there are paper guides by the entrance to them to show you the way. There are restrooms by the entrances. Fishing is allowed in many spots as long as you have a license. There are pavilions an some picnic tables and bbq pits. They have a campground to rent. The full trail leads to the Donkey Lady Bridge.
Nice trails, first time riding them, probably best to visit during the spring or fall because more brown vs greens during winter.
Bike riding with hubby at Medina River Greenway Trailhead 18.98 miles very challenging and steep hills. This is not for beginner if you want a challenge this the place to go.
Beautiful park nice and clean and nice MTB dirt trail
Beautiful scenery. Nice place for hiking. Handicap friendly. Trail is not concrete so its easy on your feet and joints.
I walk my dog there all the time, peaceful and a great place to relax and take a nice long jog. Oh yeah the staff is nice and helpful!!
Nice. Clean. Only issue for dog lovers, after 1.5 miles out and back, I did not see a place to throw away dog poop. Had to carry the entire walk.
So secluded. I was there like 3 hours saw less than 12 people. Loved it
Very beautiful place!!
Nice place for a good walk or bike ride and with the kids
Beautiful park! You can fish there and theres also a pavillion with picnic tables. They often have activities for the whole family such as bird watching or floral identification.
This was a very nice park. I was surprised at how nice it was because Ive never heard about it. It was a good walk. There were a lot of snake signs and poison ivy signs which is helpful, especially to people who arent familiar with how it looks or what it is.
I like clean very informative park . Fishing n trails are pretty good didnt catch nothing cause I when around noon still very relaxing n calming.
Wonderful park! Good mix trails and plenty of room to social distance.
Nice public area with alot of fishing spots and good for recreational activities.
A great place to view one of the counties rarest venomous snakes and also the most often misidentified snake- the Northern Cottonmouth aka Water Moccasin (Agkistrodon piscivorus) also, they dont chase people. ;)
I loved my visit. Scenery is beautiful
A little hot be ready to sweat in the summer
I think this is by far the best hidden secret of San Antonio trails.
I love the scenery and it is so relaxing
Fun walk and nice scenery! Good fishing spots. (Use minnows)
Nice stroll, love this trail.
Love the beauty of the it.. first visit fo my granddaughter.. she loved the walk
Fantastic hidden gem. Easy trails. Great, lush, scenery. The views of the river are amazing, as well.Only issue I’ve had is people not respecting the leash law!
Beautiful place to take a walk, dog-friendly with lots of shade. I really enjoyed spending a few hours here with my pup! Absolutely wonderful the city of San Antonio has created this trail system for everyone to use for free!!
What a great place to hike! Not a lot of people
Even though San Antonio is massive. Real quiet and beautiful. Away from noise pollution. Great place to reset your self.
We visited for the first time today and it was beautiful and quiet. We were able to fish and walk some of the trails. My kids loved the river. Definitely recommend.
Perfect hidden gem in south San Antonio.
The park was amazing! Full of life and nature, the caution signs about the poison ivy and snakes are in good taste. However, a clear distinction of direction needs to addressed. I followed the map from the beginning and somehow ended up in the complete opposite of the park. If that get fixed then the rating would have been perfect.
It connects with The Donkey Lady walking trail. A pretty good little walk. Very pretty.
Beautiful walking paths next to a river.
If your into Nature, this is the place to feel free and embrace your feelings.
Fishing and hiking available. Theres also a campground on the other side of the river.
Great place to go for a walk or bike ride
Great Trail very well maintained and they have bike Rangers that roam around in case you need help. Beautiful scenery and a great well kept secret. A real jewel in the San Antonio Park system
Great place for a ride. Unpaved trails are a wonderful surprise (when there open, that is...)
Beautiful retreat to walk around. They have trails and wheelchair accessibility, as well as benches for a reprieve at each fork. There are name plaques throughout of the native/local birds.
A very beautiful and clean park. We loves taking our children and doggos for a good little hike. Tons of trees and plants, small wildlife and a beautiful river. It is not too hard of a hike, and has several trails. We usually spend about 2 - 3 hours here. Close by San Antonio to grab something to eat afterwards. Bathrooms are clean as well, just make sure you bring a good size water bottle!!
No snakes this time!
Very pretty trials!! very nice to bike, walk and hike!
You can get to the other side of the trail by going to Jett rd. This skips the construction part of the trail.
The Loop Trail along the river is wonderful.Lots of shade, birds, and the sound of the water running is soothing. Trails are gravel and dirt so be prepared for some dusty socks and shoes. Our favorite place in San Antonio to take our dog for a walk!!!
Very nice, serene and peaceful. A very pleasant trek. And you can fish there.
Beautiful shaded trails, paved and unpaved. Clean restrooms. Plus you can fish here.
The best hiking trail in the area. My kids and I come down here and enjoy the scenery and river.
Love the nature trails by the river
The nature area is a great city escape. Biking, running, walking/hiking. The trail is approximately 6.5 miles long, 13 miles to the end and back. There is a clear halfway point from the main trailhead - Applewhite Rd with water and portolets. There is fishing, primarily at Jett Rd bridge. Visitors should know they may see deer, snakes, javelina, bobcat, skunks, wild turkey, etc but the sightings are not frequent. Additionally, there are approximately 6 switchbacks, a couple considered steep. These add to the overall fun and recreation but also to the rigor. Visitors should consider carrying water. The main trailhead has plants and birds identified. Truly a San Antonio gem.
Great place, saw a few snakes and a few scorpions.
I love this park. It is shaded, peaceful, and never very crowded. The park is also a great place to walk your dog.
Been driving by this area for years in the dark on my way to work. Would run into wild boar, fox, coyote, deer, skunk for sure. Not sure if anyone encounter any wild life on Jett entrance kinda hidden area. People park there to fish, ride bike, walk the concret path.Got brave enough to stop with daughter alittle to late the daylight was already going down. Dont recommend to get off path. Very wooded lots of tall weed and poison Ivy. You can see several small paths from animals. When its reads close at sunset better believe it!
Great trail to do some walking, jogging, bicycle riding or bird watching. They have paved trails and off paved trails.I myself enjoy off paved along the Medina River. You can do some fishing at certain spots along the trail.Watch out for snakes and poison ivy.Theirs a restroom as you go in they have always been clean.Go out and enjoy one of Gods Great Masterpiece Mother Earth.Peace.
Has anybody been out there lately how has it been havent been there in a good while
Love the park. Nice hiking trail along the river
Great place to swim
It was fun walk but prices are getting high n to do zip line was almost $30 for one
Love being out in nature
Great! I cant wait to see how it looks early!
Just Beautiful!
Beautiful park, good pave trails and some off trails are nice
Beautiful place, both paved and dirt or gravel paths. Riverfront and shady on some of the path but there is some intense sun areas. We did a 3 mile hike and the workout was good!
Nice trails
