This zoo is fabulous! Tip, dont come into the morning. They reopen at 12:00, so come then. This is when the animals are being active and fed. We came face to face with an orangutan and her baby! Her face was pressed right up to the glass, and started to poke the glass when she saw me pull out my sparkly phone case! At 2:00 they feed the lions right at the glass. They also pressed their faces right to it! Amazing place. Highly reccomend recommended! One more tip, dont eat there. Its extremely expensive, so bring your own lunch or leave and come back. Other than that, what a fabulous place, full or super active animals and close up encounters.
Much better than the Zoo of my childhood in the 80s. The Asian Highlands specifically are one of the largest improvements at the Zoo. Sooo much better than those sad cement cages. It feels like the animals are happy and enjoying their habitats. The keepers Ive spoken to are knowledgeable and passionate. Definitely an enjoyable experience for adults as well as kids
Please note, my review is for the Zoo and not the cost which is WAY TOO MUCH in my opinion for what you get. The zoo itself has a very nice selection of animals and if you go during the winter the crowds are kept at bay making the experience more enjoyable. My kids loved the kitties in the small animals building and its always fun to watch the sea lions and polar bears. If its been years since youve been, I like the more natural exhibits they have compared to the cage rooms of old. The play place with slides, rope bridges, boats, etc will keep your little ones entertained for quite a while if they need a break from looking at animals.
Cool theme-ing. Its always hard to catch the big cats awake. But the leapord and her two cubs were out playing. It was great.
We went late morning which seemed to be the perfect time to go to the Asian Highlands at Hogle Zoo. The fall weather was cool with a light wind. We also didn’t have to fight with huge crowds. Both the Amur Leopard and tiger were active and moving. They had just fed the tiger a rabbit and it was incredibly fascinating watching the tiger first strip the fur off with his raspy tongue and then dig into his meal.We watched the leopard pace back and forth. The spots and coloring are gorgeous.
The zoo has become unaffordable for families. Same animals that are too sleepy too tired hiding somewhere hardly visible in a setting that looks quite frankly stressful and outdated. My pet chickens at home have more space then the tiger at the zoo
Definitely recommend trying to go when the weather is a bit cooler. Animals are much more active when its early and cool.
Boo lights are so beautiful! We had fun and laughed the whole time!
We come here multiple times throughout the year and its been great every time. The people are nice, animals well taken care of, decent fair admission price. Free for 2 and under. You can walk there entire thing in an hour if youre fast. Lots of food and drink and activities. Kids loved the little splash pad area too. Bring swimming clothes!
This area of the Hogle Zoo is a must-see. The big cats are always out and about and there are plenty of viewing places to see them all. Plus, we LOVE the new red pandas and their enclosure. Theyre always active and climbing about. You can see them from the front area, the side, and from above. Highly recommend walking around the Asian Highlands when youre here at the Hogle Zoo.
Had a great time here, the staff were extremely friendly and gave us tons of awesome information. We also stopped by the food court on our way out and the food was good.I definitely plan on going again. My only issue was that a decent amount of animals weren’t out to see the day I went but it’s understandable. I wouldn’t want to come out everyday either haha.
It was a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but iver all it had a great selection of animals to see. The polar bears were playing so that was fun.
We got a year pass because we love going. The bird show is fantastic. My kids love the carousel. The statues are almost as fun as seeing the actual animals.
Asian Highlands are amazing. They have a variety of animals, such as red pandas, a couple tigers, and snow leopards. The tigers and snow leopards were out for part of the day, I only saw the red pandas asleep.
Loved our visit to Hogle Zoo. It was late in the day by the time we got to the Asian Highlands so the cats were a bit sleepy, but what cat isn’t sleepy. We loved how everything was setup and how close we could get to the animals. It was a great experience to be sure.
Nice local zoo. The animals seem well cared for.
Enjoyed the zoo with my granddaughters
If you have wild kids(like me) this is a great place to take em. Kids have a cute soft spot for animals.
Adorable pandas. Very fun for the kids.
What an amazing interaction. This place is outstanding. Well cared for happy animals and clean enclosures wish we lived closer this would be a weekly thing for us. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Answered all of our questions and helped point out some animals we didnt see at first
Asian highlands is one of the funnest parts of the zoo. You will almost always see the snow leopard and jaguar and all through the winter the red panda are active and adorable.
I was so disappointed in the zoo, you pay so much money, its not worth it its the worst ive seen it in a long time
The red panda is the cutest thing Ive ever seen. Asian Highlands is beautiful and so much fun. I purchased the family membership and its the best money I have ever spent. We can go at a very easy pace and just go back again another day to see the other attractions. I loved feeding the giraffe leaves! So much fun.
It’s a destination you need to visit if you have kids or love animals or quality time with great people. I love the Zoo!!!
They have made so many changes over the years! They continue to improve the quality for these animals.
Beautiful cats in the Asian Highlands. The new cub is growing so quickly. The great variety of cats are beautiful to see. I love that as the weather is cooler, the cats are a little more active during the day.
Great experience. Animal habitats are enjoyable for both residents and visitors.
Always great. We love taking our kids, they ride the train and we stop for lunch in their cafe. The animals seem to be in good spirits around September when the temperatures drop a bit. They also do Zoo Lights around December and Halloween decorations for October.
Alittle hard to view some of the animals but a great time!
Cool animals, Red pandas.
Zoo lights were fun for kids.
Always love the zoo here. Its clearly making money because its expanding and cleaning up nicely. They had zookeepers and volunteers at nearly every exhibit to answer questions and tell neat facts. Specifically in this section, they have a few new momma kitties. Bonus, the tigers were awake also.
The Hogle Zoo is pretty fun. We have the family pass so we get unlimited rides on the carousel and I believe the train. We also get 10 percent off anything we buy there. We usually spend anywhere from 2 to 4 hours here. Today when we went they fed the elephants and it was super cute to watch them stand up, spray water and trumpet. Im only eating this 5 stars because I have been to the zoo in Los Angeles, CA and it is a lot better. However this zoo is fun entertainment for my kids and they seem to treat their animals well.
Asian Highlands is always our favorite stop at the zoo. The red panda display is great. The big cats are fantastic.
Absolutely so gorgeous. The tigers were active and the red pandas were eating so happily
I always love the hogle zoo. It is one of our favorite family destinations. Passes are affordable $89 for two people. $150 for a family pass. The playground and splash pad are awesome, but the splash pad usually doesnt open until summer. They have kid shows that are engaging and fun. The kids got to pet an armadillo. The bird shows are lengthy, but cute. We love the elephant shows with the cool tricks. The lion feedings are super cool, and they have the lions do cool tricks. It is super fun to see Nora and Hope the polar bears swim in the water. There is a cute baby giraffe this year. There are some baby zebras too.
My family absolutely loves the zoo, it has gotten so so so much better from when I was a child...
Fun and cute zoo, with holiday events and decor. Not the biggest but you get some pretty close encounters with the animals.
Lots of animals to see.
Great small zoo. All the animals are well cared for and appear happy. Enjoyed walking around and speaking with the caretakers.
Nice part of the zoo.
It was a cold and rainy day, and the tigers were very active, along with the Amur Leopards, Red Pandas, and Lynxes. The living spaces for the animals strike a balance of making them visible while being humane and giving them enough space to roam. The informational placards are just enough to let you know about the animals and want to do more to conserve them -- this is a great part of the zoo.
Its better now that the new Tiger is more active. The Red Panda is really cute. As always the Leopard pacing us fun.
Fun place to go with family fun atmosphere and so much to see and do
They have really improved the zoo; parks, walkways and different animals. Great place for a family activity or date night.
Nice zoo with a variety of Animals
Everything has been updated each exhibit is tailored to each animal so beautiful we had a great time with the family!
People need to learn respect, and the zoo needs more staff to handle unruly guests. Tired of people knocking on the glass and yelling in quiet areas. However, the lower rating is because of the lack of care shown to many of the animals. Today we watched an elephant eat a post Bernstein they arent fed enough.
I love the zoo
I think how they set up hogle zoo is awesome if course this is one area of the whole experience. What they have done is experience sections of the world from Asia to Africa to america to Antarctica I loved the zoo within a zoo it was a great opportunity for the kids to experience to ask questions of the animals within that region what makes them unique. Of course the red panda
So much fun!And the people who work there are wonderful, I had such a great time!
My boys love seeing the tigers and other cats. They were being pretty lazy though. Seeing them and all the other animals when its cooler outside makes for a better trip to the zoo.
The Hogle Zoo has done so much to make these animals feel at home. Mind you, I dont support captivity for any animal but the ones that cant thrive in the wild deserve a nice place to retire and the Hoogle Zoo is the best place for those animals.
We visited on a very hot day but they had large fans and mist blowing to help cool off. Only complaint is we didnt see many animals there because it was so hot some animals were not in their outdoor exhibits
We love the Hogle zoo. We have been season pass holders for 5 years. The red panda exhibit is awesome.
I live the Asian highlands at the zoo. Hogle zoo has done much over the last 10 years to improve the enclosures for the animals. There are lots fewer cats now so the the ones they do have can have large enclosures with a natural habitat instead of the old cement cages. I love the new red pandas that were added this year. They are very cute.
The last Wednesday of the month is free admission, and I took full advantage! The lions napped right in front of the glass, and we saw the Zebra babies running and playing! The elephants put on a show a few times a day with their trainers. They’ll paint and climb and it’s so fun to watch! I love this zoo and I’m lucky it’s so close by.
It was a pleasant day nice all in all
Beautiful exotic animals
The Asian Highlands are always a highlight of the zoo! The red pandas are very active.
Wonderful experiences. Creative displays and very informative.
Winter time in the zoo!... is a medium zoo with a variety of animals from different continents...
Gorgeous and rare cats plus the cute red pandas. Best time to go is right after zoo opens or right before it closes. Dont miss it!
Love the bear exhibit. Our you see the sea lions, bring a coin, drop it by the water window, and you will get their undivided attention.
Was really cool to see zoo light and the animals
Hard to get up the hill but it has a nice area with mist and shade. Also has tables and umbrellas to stop for lunch or a snack.
This place is quite delightful. Seeing the big cats, the small cats and the red pandas, is a lot of fun with children.
The chicken and tater tots were delicious. The atmosphere was delightful as we ate our lunch and enjoyed watching the red pandas play in their exhibit.
This part of the zoo is fun, but always crowded. The cats can sometimes be hard to see in their habitats, depending on when youre there. The cats also sleep like 20 hours per day so its more than likely that theyll be asleep if youre there in the middle of the day.
Very nice. Its cool, being able to get so close to the red panda, snow leopard, and more.
I remember this part of the zoo being awesome. Maybe I was young and just ok was amazing back then. But I remember it being a lot better. I dont think they have upgraded since I was a kid. What ever happened to Sasta the liger. Dead I know but they used to have a picture and story. At least work on breeding another one. Time for a remodel for sure.
Nice zoo, not too big, not too small. Fun train to ride and lots of animals to see
It was really fun, but we could beraly see the animals. A lot of them where hiding.
We love to bring the kids! 1st thing in the am is best (ssshh).
Its a fun place to me with your Children long drive though and parking can be hard
All the exhibits are so much better than they used to be. More viewing areas for the visitors and more territory for the animals.
Great place so many fun animals, wonderful zoo workers to help you give you new information.when we were there we got to feel a polor bears coat which was pretty cool
Really cool! The food place up there has good food.
Gotta go in the morning. Cats are alert and moving around. Beautiful area to visit at the zoo.
Lots of animals that you wont see around here. Active when its hot.
Grandkids would stay for hours watching giraffes. Fun to feed them also
Love the zoo. So clean and beautiful
Try to go when its bot to busy. Youll enjoy it better. But its cool
Great place to see the big cats. We especially love the leopards and the new baby Pallas Cats.
This is a great addition to the zoo. The red panda exhibit is easily my wifes favorite, and they have a new leopard kitten that was pretty adorable to watch playing with its mother.
We love the zoo and Asian Highlands is one of our favorites, especially since they opened the Red Panda exhibit
The animals are very well cared for and the shows are fantastic plus the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable
Love the red panda. Aka the firefox
The zoo sucked for my Grandkids first time not too many animals and the wart hog they are advertising was not even there lil kids hope gone and to spend that type of money and they close at 6pm really before it would take all day now like i said no hippos gaters snakes what....am I really paying for ...
Its got Tigers and Leopards and a Siberian Lynx and Pallas Cats. Theres a cool Tibetan motif going on with the prayer flags, makes it feel exotic.
Incredible experience of a lifetime. Awesome staff.
Cool cats. Kids loved it
Love this place. The new baby is so cute!! They have so many big cats to see! The red pandas are usually out playing as well.
Had an absolutely wonderful time at the zoo!
Defiantly a fun adventure, with amazing staff
Loved the animals.. prices for stuff is ridiculous like every entertainment place.
