It was s crazy place. Ghost and goblins and other scary stuff. Kinda like living during the Obama administration
Creepy old place. I liked it but they could label the graves better
Free sight seeing. Right next to Witch Trials Memorial benches. Several historical stones. Please be respectful. Do not sit on the plots. Do not rub the stones. Great buildings nearby. Salem is a very walkable and friendly city.
This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the US (dates back to the 1600s) and I wish it was cared for better. Many of the tombstones have been damaged, vandalized, and stolen. Its interesting to see the designs on the tombstones (I enjoyed the ones from the 1700s the most) and imagine what life was like for these people that lived there in an era so foreign to us.The Salem Witch Trials Memorial is right beside the cemetery. Come see both.
Interesting little ceremony that contains the graves of very important individuals and families of Salem in the past such as the Hawthornes and the Turners.
This place is a must see when you are in Salem!!! If you are interested (or even slightly interested) in the Salem Witch Trials, you will enjoy walking around this cemetery... very old and very historic!
We walked through rather quickly (I have three young children), but they were interested in some of the gravestones. You can spend as much or as little time as youd like in here. During October, they do limit the number of people in the cemetery at one time. There is also a specific entry and an exit.
Interesting if youre into cemeteries
My 9th Great Grandfather is buried here along with my 9th Great Grandmother. Capt Richard More and Christina. I go to the cemetery whenever I am in the area and leave flowers.
One of the older cemeteries you can find in the US. Very gothic and eerie feel about, but fascinating and beautiful.
Great old cemetery with many historical figures in there related to the witch trials and the history of Salem. There is actually someone that was on the Mayflower buried there, too. Salem was fun to visit in October.
Spooky, smells like ash
Another awesome site we were allowed to walk around.
Its a very interesting place to check out for yourself..
Worth a walk about. The graves are very old and its definitely a walk through time.
If you are fascinated by cemeteries, aka death + history and mystery you should not be disappointed. If you are into prodding ghosts I beg you let them rest.
Beautiful cemetery rich in history.
Very eye opening and a little creepy. It was interesting to see a site this old and preserved as it is. One of my favorite parts of Salem.
Definitely haunted. Bring your camera! The history of this place is incredible. Can get kinda cramped. Watch your steps when walking through because tripping over and damaging the stones can easily happen.
A nice, historic cemetery. Theres a plaque at the Charter St entrance that gives a rough location to some of the notable graves. Quite a small place, but well kept and manageable for folks with a stroller.
Cool old cemetery, fascinating history.
Small cemetery where some of the first settlers were buried. The memorial to 19 victims of the witch Hunt is attached from Eastern side.
One of the coolest old cemeteries weve ever visited. On a quest to find the oldest tombstones, we were not disappointed. I did not find it creepy as some folks have said, it was a bit sad but historically satisfying. The oldest tombstone we found was 1680!On one end of the small cemetery, there is a homage to the many innocent people who were murdered during the 9 month witch month.Keep an eye out on the incredible iconography that is on every tombstone. It can be accessed by a wheelchair but with difficulty and there is nowhere to sit and rest. Very interesting place to visit.
Very interesting. Has a map of notable graves as you walk in from the street access. Volunteers were there to manage large groups and before Halloween.
Amazing place, the witches memorial next to it, is really something not to miss.cant wait to come back around Halloween.
Great place to visit with magnificent old trees too.
Right next to the memorial. Historic place of many of salems past residents. Some headstones are quite small and worn. Take your time and stroll thru to saok in the history of Salem and transport your mind to a different time. We enjoyed stopping by and learning more about salems complex past.
Old Cemetery, cool to visit !
Its a place to visit if you love historical places and visiting the graves of the many people listed on the map plaque located upon entrance of the cemetery, but then there are all the other people buried who are just as interesting because many died before 1776 (before the Declaration of Independence came to be).The map is a little tricky. There were only 3 people that we could find. They need a better map or someone needs to create a paper map leading us to the right grave and sell it in the tourist shops. Why hasnt anyone thought of this?It was a hot day. If it hadnt been a hot day I would have stayed there all day.More photos and reviews on YELP
Sad that people just come and stomp everywhere. They really need to mark off the pass. It looks like the cemetery is being absolutely destroyed.
Its o.k and its free. I was a little disappointed as I walked around and was annoyed by loud construction right beside it. Hard to be peaceful and at ease when you see a beautiful aged headstone and the backdrop is huge cranes and trucks backing up.
This place and the Memorial are next to each other. It was interesting to see the old stones dating back hundreds of years.
Could only see from street, under architectural construction until November 19
Small old cemetery with a couple note worthy names and a couple plaques just outside about the witches who were executed. Nice to walk around for a little while.
I love old cemeteries, being here in Salem, reminiscing the movie Hocus Pocus. I enjoyed walking around and reading the tombstones. However, a majority of them were impossible to read as the epitaphs have faded with time. It was difficult to find the graves based on the metal map and took some time and teamwork to locate specific tombstones.
The coolest creepy place we went. Really old haunted feeling, especially in the evening.
Amazing place! But not well preserved, tiros are touching everything and walking all around and destroying the cemetery, so sad! Lapides broken, dirty with food, grass destroyed...
I heard this place was so popular people were just *dying* to get inlol
Very cool place to visit. Graves as old as 1690s.
Very interesting experience to see such an old cemetery that has been so well maintained. Was possible to read a lot of the unusual epitaphs.
Is it weird my wife and I came here on our first wedding anniversary with our infant son? Great place for some history, though can get pretty crowded during fall tourist season.
Want A surreal experience, GO with a guided tour from Spellbound or their partners, Scary Informative or Historical Great Time
Good part of the story
I think old cemeteries are cool, so I enjoyed walking around and reading the stones. It was hard to find the graves based on the metal map.
I love roaming around here
Solemn and serene location to reflect on the tragedy that the panic of Salem caused. Ultimately the fate of the accusers and the accused was the same, with both destined for eternal interment in this hallowed ground.
Not open 24/7
Simple and nice. But not much historic information about buried people there.
Cool old cemetery. Definitely worth a stop.
A great historic site to visit
It could be renovated to a standard place
Really interesting to see, however, being there over halloween it was really crowded and i was a bit upset by how disrespectful people were despite the fact we were in a graveyard...taking smiley selfies hugging a gravestone seemed...weird...to me
Awesome, old, real graveyard.
Oldest cemetery in Salem. The hanging judge is here.
The coolest looking cemetery Ive ever seen.
I loved it!!!!
So much history in this place.
A must see!
Such a beautiful place.
The sadness is tangible here.
Awesome and a bit creepy
