Definitely give zero stars if I could, we used the ymca last summer for the first time and from the get go they were horrible and unorganized, unprofessional and doing a lot of things that aren’t even following the educational laws. I wouldn’t ever bring my child back here again. Nor would I advise other people to take their childern here either, especially if your child has any medical or health conditions, look somewhere else, because they’ll pick and chose the days your child can come because they clearly don’t know how to schedule either.

The people seem really nice, and genuine. However I’m feeling frustrated and would not recommend the Salem YMCA. My wife and I signed up this month up predominantly due to the YMCA offering childcare and for a young family this a deal maker.Considering the building is falling apart, the weight room is outdated, and the basketball courts/pool are closed due to a fire. Childcare is it’s one saving grace. Unfortunately, The childcare situation is not ideal. The first time we took our kids to the daycare both come back with pinkeye. The second time we took our kids to the daycare, it is completely closed during scheduled operation time, and none of the staff know why it’s closed or how I can find out when the childcare will randomly be closed in the future. It’s a lot to pack up the kids stuff, get ready to workout, load the kids up, drive down there and have to turn around with clear no explanation.

My husband and I have been members for about 7 years. We love the Y family. Instructors are knowledgeable and take an interest in all people of all age and skill levels. Members are very diverse in age and abilities. Everyone is important and accepted. The Y is interested in helping everyone be their best.

I had a horrible time with the YMCA in the Month of June 2018. I wanted to sign my daughter up for their day camp for the summer. Staff was rude, Felicia the assistant for Kim who runs the camp, hung up on me. I should have seen this as a sign, but nonetheless i continued to work with them to get my daughter signed up. On my daughters first day, she came home almost in tears and refusing to ever go back. There was an older girl who bullied my daughter all day. I asked her if she told the camp counselors and she said she did but they dont care. I pressed her for more information on what happened and she stated when she told the counselor, they patted her on the back and told her she would be fine and to go back and play. I was shocked and upset that this is how they handled things. Bullying is a serious issue and for it to be ignored and brush under the wrong is just sad. I never took my daughter back! She is now at the Kroc center camp which is a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. She happy, doesnt want to leave at the end of the day, loves the staff and all the activities she does. Its more pricy then the YMCA, but its money well spent in my opinion. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE YMCA FOR ANYONE. The staff is rude, disrespectful, and dont care.

Ive been a member of this Y for about 10 years. I love it! Yes, the older building does have some challenges, but the programs and staff more than make up for it. The group exercise classes are AWESOME! They make you work hard, but the staff are supportive and help you reach your goals. Ive also met with one of the personal trainers and he is fantastic. Im planning on putting my daughter in swimming lessons soon and cant wait for her to be old enough to try some of the other activities.

I wish I could give this place 0 starts. I went in to get my friends a membership(who is 15) and I told them that he wanted to work out in the work out room not knowing you had to be 18. With no one telling us you had to be 18.so we set up an account and all was good eveyone was nice but then after only working out 2 times in the gym a guy came up to us saying to work in the guy would cost $30 per a lesson!! On top of the $26 I was paying for just to work out 2 time a week. So we just said it’s not worth and ended the membership they said to me because it’s not within 30 days of ur payment that I will have to pay even if I don’t go. Not even one day I still have to pay $26. So I call on the weekend and I talk to a guy(who was really nice) I ask if they anything we can do and he said I will wave the fee. I think okay cool I mean that’s great!! But then my friend gets an email and it says “thank you for renewing ur ymca account” so I call on a week day and get a girl. She was very rude saying she told me you had to be 18 and pay $30 for ONE lesson. Like honestly do you think if I new that I would sign a paper for me just to pay for more. then she became even more rude and just kept saying you signed. And I mean I get that yes I signed but She never told me anything about being 18. I got off the phone about 30 minutes ago and I really wish that she was nicer even if I had to pay 26 I really don’t think this play is nice and it’s old and for that much money I don’t think I should be getting yelled at by a worker (I called on Monday feb. 11 at 3:30)

Good price and good facilities however they change their pool hours often (which is the main reason I go) without notice and they dont even inform their employees when they make said changes. Ive 3 pool schedules printed out that I have to throw away because they change the hours some way since... kind of annoying but not annoying enough to take business elsewhere

Price is competitive, and the variety of services is good. the building itself feels a bit old and in need of upgrading. navigating the maze of stairs and corridors is a challenge at first, but once youre used to where everything is it isnt a big deal. good option for families.

Ive been a Y member for about 6 years. I love playing racquetball there and do so with a great friendly group. If you looking to get into a new sport racquetball is the way to go. However, in the last months they fired a bunch of staff and replace them with new staff. The are not nearly as friendly, or personable. The previous staff even knew my name, but I rarely get a hello when I enter the building. The elevator is constantly not working. I have to carry by one year old up and down the stairs which is very tiring. The ONLY thing that keeps me there is the price. I would switch to the Courthouse if the price wasnt so cheap. Which they seem to be reducing services, but increasing prices so it might not be long before I do switch. Too bad, the YMCA is a staple of the history of downtown Salem and its further going to....crap.

This YMCA is a great addition to the Marion and Polk communities, offering a variety of services for families and kids, with programs to offer discounted rates. The gym is a little dated, and not overly active, but definitely does the job with both cardio and weights, as well as a running platform on the upper level that runs around the edges of the gym.

Ive been a member of the Salem Family YMCA now for over 5 years and use their facilities for hoops, weight room, indoor track, fitness rooms & training facilities and the new pool is spectacular. Its a great deal for a low price and the staff are always incredibly helpful and courteous.

I like this Y. I never had a bad time in any of the classes. They let you go at your own pace and modify if you need to. I am a sporadic attendee, but never have I been made to feel bad about that. The thing I love most about this gym that you really dont have to be beautiful to go. No posers or pick-ups, just health. It is downtown and there is some strangeness, but I have found that to be harmless. Most of the staff is friendly and energetic.

The racquetball courts are filthy. Its an old building, but should be kept up better. I belong to a similar aged Y in Wenatchee, WA, and it is kept clean and bright.

Wonderful place! The gym is not by any means state of the art but they have plenty to choose from, its not crouded, the building is old but has a charm to it, they base membership off of your income as well so anyone can come, they offer all sorts of activites too including sports!

Poor. I got the run around in trying to pay for my granddaughters day camp. Depending on who I spoke to at the YMCA I received different information of what paper work and documentation I needed to register my granddaughter for camp. It was frustration and took a lot of my time away from work to go in person as they required to complete the registration. Their organization is disconnected between supervisors and staff.
