I love that I found Sincere Ceramics! You sign up for classes one at a time--making it really easy to fit into your schedule. And the price (about $15) for a two hour class, including all materials, is beyond reasonable. Instructors spend much of each class helping out beginners (of course), but always make a point to stop and check on everyones progress. If this is your first time trying out ceramics, just be aware of a few things: It can be messy, so dont wear anything youre not ready to get a bit dirty. It takes at least two sessions to finish a piece, as you have to fire it once to solidify the clay, and then a second time after you glaze it. And last, its not as easy as it looks! Dont get discouraged, it takes a lot more than a class or two to learn how to really work with and understand clay.
My sister was in town and we decided to do the beginner ceramics class. We got there at the end of the instruction and the teacher had no problem repeating himself and was very patient. Unfortunately the space only provides 8 throwing wheels and there were way more people than that in the class. The majority of students had been interested in learning how to throw but a few of them (myself included) didnt get much time because we didnt take even turns (make sure you claim a throwing spot right away). When we did finally get turns, we didnt get much time and were left with the task of cleaning up after all the previous students because we were the last to use the space. If the class size had been limited it would have been the perfect experience. I hope to go back for another class when it isnt so busy.
My husband and I purchased tickets to the introduction class as I had never worked with clay before. When we got there nearly all the turn tables were taken by other people who werent part of the class and were just there working on their own projects. As a result we sat and waited for about 30 minutes for a wheel to be available. While attempting to make our products we asked questions of the instructor and he wasnt very helpful. He mostly shrugged and said just keep working on it and youll get it. We ended up not having enough time to finish a single project before class was over.We left with more knowledge than we came with, but definitely dont feel a desire to return.
The instructor is great - what a wonderful space to play and develop new skills. Nice to have time to work without someone hovering over you, yet still be available when needed for assistance. Thank you!
Very fun place for an introductory ceramics class. Almost all of the classes have an optional intro tutorial to sculpting and throwing. The staff is very welcoming to people of all levels (I had never done any ceramics before) and are as hands off/on as you want them to be. Plus its super affordable and theres free coffee! I recommend giving it a try.
My goodness this place is amazing! The first time I bought tickets online I ordered the wrong ones and Sincere 100% accommodated me and i have been going ever since! Justin is a very good teacher and the studio is also so cute!
We love this place. We try to go about once a month. Check Groupon for a first time deal.
Great place to go and work on your skills. Very nice people. Chill atmosphere.
Great place. Awesome owners. They offer beginners classes and open studio time. Very affordable
Been going there for a while now. Best place in town to learn the wheel and some sculpting. I meet up with friends there once ina while and we catch up while creating something...its also super relaxing and you feel so acomplished when you finish something and take it home! Unlike some studios they dont nickel and dime you. Your price includes the clay, bisque firing, storing, glazing etc...
Very nice and also helpful with instructions. We look forward to more classes and fun.
This place was so fun! Id never done ceramics before and the instructor made me feel comfortable in a room full of people who knew what they were doing.
Great instructor, awesome experience!
My husband and I decided to do a date night together and get dirty, wet,and throw things with passion (aka get elbows deep in clay). Now, I always imagined throwing on a potting wheel to be something akin to the sexy scene in Ghost. Uhhh, yeah. Reality check. Our first class definitely threw that fantasy out the window. I just had to make sure I didnt lose a finger or my dignity!I found Sincere Ceramics via FB. They had an event listed as Fired Up Friday which is essentially an intro class to those who have never worked with clay, or are still new and want a refresher course. Its essentially open studio time to play around and create things that only your mother could love. Just kidding. I say this because I recreated my kindergarten ash tray when we went (which was humbling and hilarious). In fact, I recommend you go through their FB page to reserve your spot in their numerous offerings during the week. They seem to do intro classes on Wed, Thurs and Fridays but check online to be sure. I know they also have open studio you can go to, but its definitely more for those who have experience, especially if you want to use the wheels. We were greeted warmly by one of the artists and members of the studio and paid our $12 each. We were then walked in, offered coffee/tea and then once everyone arrived we had a tutorial led by Justin on the types of clay and the different methods of creating with clay. It was really cool because I remember learning this 30 years ago as a kid, and it came back to me pretty quickly. We also had the opportunity to see and experience using the potting wheel. Its a different beast than the rolling, pinching and scoring you do with your hands when creating but it gave me a new appreciation of the gorgeous handmade bowls and mugs I admire often when shopping.Sincere Ceramics also has a studio with art and ceramics for sale by those who use the studio. Its really amazing to see such beauty come from something as simple as clay. A great place to pop by to grab a one of a kind piece for sure.If you want a fun date night, or something creative to do with a group I recommend Sincere Ceramics! In fact, they are kid friendly so it would be a good option if you want something to do with the kids. Its an active studio and offers studio time and materials for a reasonable price. I also recommend you come wearing clothes you dont mind getting dirty and closed toed shoes. It can get cold in the studio, but you will get warm once you start working with the clay. They have all of the clay, and tools you need to create but definitely do some research before you go to help inspire you, and so you know what questions to ask of Justin the instructor. He was really helpful and a total pro when we were there and I only wished we had more time!
