Great place to visit. Beautiful spacious landscape. There are 3 parking areas easily accessible to the gardens. The bathrooms are only open from 10am-4:30pm and there’s a vending machine with water and soda. Make sure you have the exact change or else you won’t get your change back. There aren’t many flowers but it’s a nice space to take a leisure walk.
I have been coming to Skylands since I was a child and now going on 3 generations of family who love and experience everything Skylands has to offer. Every season is different with the lilac gardens, daffodils, crocuses, tulips blooming in the spring. Summer brings a new and varied array of flowers, colors, butterflies. Fall is still full of flowers and bumble bees getting their last fill of nectar. Walk further across the wide open field, through the gates, into another beautiful garden filled with lush trees, greenery, rock gardens, streams and ponds filled with tadpoles, frogs, bullfrogs, salamanders, deer. Hiking trails are also on this side. On the opposite side are more gardens, ponds and water gardens with koi, the manor house, gorgeous ancient trees that are meticulously cared for. What many people do not realize is the gardens are taken care of by volunteers. Some people are under the assumption this is a park and want to bring in food, coolers and picnics. That is not the case and one of the many reasons I love Skylands; keep it clean the way nature intended. During the summer months there are outdoor concerts on Friday evenings. Unfortunately, due to covid 19, these concerts did not take place. Skylands is a jewel and should be treated as such. You can spend 30 minutes here and feel renewed, refreshed or spend hours exploring everything Skylands has to offer. Whatever your choice, enjoy, there arent many spaces left in NJ, the tri- state area that can bring calmness, peace of mind and be one with nature.
Sections of the botanical gardens were quite attractive but about half of the gardens had very little maintenance. The many statues looked old an weather beaten or broken or misplaced. The huge open lawn area seemed best of events. Some shaded areas seemed nice for picnicking. The buildings appeared to be in poor repair and could have been beautiful in the past.
Beautiful, gorgeous gardens. More than worthwile to visit. It will be even more outstanding if the statues that adorn the place are restauresd to the original beauty. The place is pleasing for children and adults
Walking paths are mostly shaded. Very easy walks around the beautiful gardens suitable for families & kids. Some visitors bring food and picnic on the vast grass fields. There are no trash cans so visitors pack their own waste. We arrived at 3:30pm on a Sunday and it’s not crowded. Everyone had masks on. Will come back again next time
Nice place to get out and get some fresh air. You can walk for hours. Beautiful place for wedding photos, saw a bride having photos taken when i was leaving. You should try to go every season, as the trees change in the fall and the flowers are different each season.
This place could be amazing! Unfortunately, it seems the state does not provide enough funding. The site is beautiful, the grounds of an old mansion. The perennial garden and hosts garden are maintained separately from the rest of the gardens and are in better condition. Worth a visit. The staff tries hard to maintain the grounds. Given the right funding this could be a spectacular garden.
Amazing place to visit and resetFollow me for more funInsta @pussfoot44
Wonderful place for those who love a quiet rest. By mid-May, dozens of varieties of lilacs are spinning. Very beautiful!
Very nice place to visit along with family and friends, however navigating inside this place is little bit tricky, no clear markings and placard around.
I highly recommend visiting. It is very beautiful all year round.
Do NOT use Skylands Road to enter the park. USE MORRIS ROAD! Do not park on Skylands Road or surrounding roads. Park has changed its hours and capacity because of COVID. Do not follow Google maps. Use Morris Road only.
Beautiful place to walk through or have a picnic. Three easily accessible parking lots and overall just pretty.
A beautiful outing. We enjoyed the koi pond and vistas. Easy trail through woods with white markers. Very serene place. We visited nearby Shepards Lake for a picnic afterwards.
Huge garden. Very peaceful. Good location for profile photo shoot. Will recommend. There is one lake also nearby. We did not visit due to shortage of time. Parking available.
Gorgeous! Its just like a fairy tale ♡
Hiked here with family. Nice trails. Easy to moderate trails. Parking was no problem on a Tuesday morning. Botanical gardens were peaceful.
It was a beautiful experience...the rose garden, the autumn scenery ...it had a very unique enchanted feel
Very enjoyable walk, must be absolutely beautiful when flowers are in full bloom
Beautiful specimens of so many amazing plants both native and exotic!!! Its so peaceful there.
The gardens are so beautiful this time of year. So great walking around after being inside for so long.
The review title should be Green. It is far away from main town of new Jersey and new York. But you wont feel boring because of the beautiful road. The road going through the forest ups and downs. Beside the road there is a lake. Inside the garden there are lot of beautiful trees and flowers. Some statues are available in the garden.
Loved the place, very relaxing.Go with the family walk around enjoy whats around you.
Beautiful clean wide open space to hike, stroll take amazing pictures!!
Beautiful Botanical Garden in New Jersey. Highly recommend a visit.
The place is gorgeous and very intimate. But the drive to get there is tough.
Lovely day at the botanical gardens and historical castle.
Dont expect it to look like NYs Bot Garden. Its a nice, secluded place to walk around and get some nature. Excellent place for social distancing! The map was a little confusing and not to really to scale . It was surprisingly pleasant to see koi in the ponds, but not a lot of flowers around.
Wide open space filled with natural beauty
Great day trip for families especially kids and a great place to run if you are looking for a good workout in the wilderness
The place looks beautiful. But the employees are so incredibly rude.
Great place to walk around and enjoy the day. Enjoy all the flowers and wonderful landscape and manor too.
Perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Beautiful spacious park with plenty of benches to sit and read.
Beautiful place but better to visit when its not too hot and humid
Like walking into Brideshead Revisited.
Very beautiful property just to walk around and enjoy the surrounding nature full of flowers and trees of different varieties.
Magical place, just beautiful. You should go!
Beautiful love the place will go again
Just beautiful...
Gorgeous place.
Because planted only now that the park is open again, formal garden is not planted yet (as of June 6). Perennial garden is lovely.
The service was not impressive. The traffic pattern was not reasonably set up. Had bad experience with the recent visit.
Cute little botanical garden. Free and easy to access. Just park and start enjoying. On a 1 hour walk weve seen, in addition to the trees and flowers, a pool full of frogs, a small snake (maybe a milk snake) and some cute small mammal that I couldnt identify.
Large territory. Good place to go for a walk when the weather allows it. Beautiful flower gardens, alleys, pathways through woods, and an old mansion. Public restroom is available.
A beautiful place, perfect for a picnic
Sad. The poor gardens and glorious trees need so much care.
I love this historic park. It’s a hidden gem. Great scenery, lots of space to explore and relax.
Beautiful gardens and the aroma around the whole area is amazing
Relaxing around, good place to go out with family or walk around with your dog️
Beautiful outdoor space. The gardens are stunning and peaceful. This was the home of a wealthy individual at the turn of the century and he had the gardens designed by famed architects and designers. There is a $5 parking fee for NJ residents and $7 for out of state.
Great
Great park to wander around with family
Just breath taking
Gorgeous lilacs here!
Do not go
Very nice to visit.
Such a beautiful place
Nice garden
Not that much flowers or garden to watch. Will be good for those who need a good walking place, apart from that not a wow place..
I saw 26 frogs
I love this place
Nice detour in a Sunday afternoon. Free entrance with $7 parking fee.
You have to go in the spring
Sprawling garden and meadows nestled between hills. The visit here is free, but it has parking charges ($5 for nj residents, $7 for rest). Best time to visit early spring Bloom time. The manor house is toured once a month, so make sure to check on dates on the site if you are interested. Last tour starts at 3 pm.
Wonderful grounds to home around. Free parking. In the winter there is a gorgeous Christmas display inside the beautiful mansion. In the spring/summer /fall, there are lovely gardens to explore.
Beautiful gardens !!!!
Peaceful, inspiring, beautiful garden for a walk.
It is a cozy botanical garden. It is good for young couples with kids, old people and young lovers. It has three large parking areas. you may stroll around the garden with many kinds of plants. You may hike Ringwood State Park. From the garden you can enter several trails.
Here for the Harvest Fest on October 13th. They make. You park 2 miles away with shuttles coming every 40 minutes. The vendors are poor. If youre looking for a psychic reading or wooden sculpted bear for your lawn, youre in luck. The Biergarden section, if you can call it that, has 3 taps. One of which was kicked by 12:30pm. The other 2 are Sam Adams Oktoberfest and Bud Light. I overheard the guy say they have 2 more kegs for the remainder of the day. Whoever organized this event should be fired from planning any future ones. The park is great, but extremely muddy right now, making for a really messy event to boot.
Oprn hour 8-6
One of the most beautiful places in the State of NJ. Peaceful and a great place to walk and relax
Out of the way but worth a visit. Beautiful. Note that the mansion is only open some days.
Wonderful quiet place to wander around on a cloudy day. Signs are dotted around the estate, telling you about the plants, or displaying maps of the grounds. We werent asked to pay to park, buildings werent open.
No flowers lots of bugs. Wear bug spray.
Nice spot to walk around, you can enjoy the flowers/trees. $5 or $7 to park.
$5 parking fee for nothing
Very nice park
Not wheelchair accessible. Gardens can not be visited with a wheelchair.
Peaceful and beautiful place..
Festival for eyes...
Phenomenal gardens
