There is a small parking lot by all the historic buildings but the park is really big. The trails wind all back and around that part of the reservoir and there are some historical markers giving explanations for the forge and water wheels and remnants of the old iron processing areas. It is a place with some really cool history and that should not be overlooked but even if you did ignore that part the trails are pretty great on their own.

Nice little hiking trail with old steel mill ruins scattered throughout. Streams. Wide, flat trails with some placards explaining what used to be here. Pretty pretty interesting. Ponds seems decent for fishing. Saw a bunch of fishermen walk past. Definitely appropriate for kids, dogs, etc.

It used to be a beautiful place to fish & kayak. Then the rentals came. Along with incredible amounts of people with coolers, blow up tubes, tents, lawn chairs, BBQ grills, etc.I thought swimming was not allowed, but apparently not.I wish the rangers would patrol more frequently. South ramp, just paddle to the right about 1/8 mile and see the party(ies).Free place to swim I guess.

Literally impossible to find any trails. Spent an hour driving back and forth and couldnt find one at all! Stared at the map a million times including the PDF of their own map from their website and it was just not helping. This never happened before, absolutely crazy. Ended up going to Ringwood State Park instead. Very disappointing. Can someone please explain how to find the trails in a review? Thats be great, thanks.

Doesnt look like much from the street but behind the first two old buildings is a trail full of 250 years of history. Not just a forest trail: Around every bend is another structure from an ironworking village dating back to George Washington. Great views of the reservoir and the river. This place is good for a short (2 hour) and easy hike, even for small children; or if you want an adventure, the map shows a longer trail that leads to Ringwood Manor. If you come during open museum hours, the staff are very excited to explain more of the history and the iron artifacts. They also put on shows (like Shakespeare or night-time candle walks), so if youre local, ask for a schedule of upcoming events.

There was parking available at the Long Pond Ironworks Visitor center. However, we had to walk to trailhead from there, partially on the side of the greenwood turnpike, which was quite busy. The trails were easy to find and follow, and were well blazed. There were a few very wet stream crossings on the highlands trail, north of greenwood turnpike. Then we tried to hike Jennings Hollow trail. We could not complete the loop, because of one very wide stream crossing in the north part of the loop. There was a rope tied between the trees to help you cross, but with the high water level and slippery boulders, it looked impossible. Also, could not help but notice a couple of beer cans some savage tossed on the side of the trail! How despicable! Whoever that was, they don’t deserve to be in those beautiful woods!
