Here you can overlook a portion of the James River at the Semmes avenue bridge. Good spot to make out, park and smoke or whatever. Not very scenic though.

Great place to park while exploring JRPS. Excellent place to park if biking since its not too far from the trailhead. Belle Isle parking lot is typically overflowing on the weekends or any time after 4pm.

Overlook of the scenic James River..

Morning, noon, or night- you can always expect a beautiful view. Belle Isle, the Belvedere Bridge, and the Jame River are visible from several benches. The grassy semicircle lot is also an occasional stop for dog walkers, cyclists/joggers, and even artists! Capping the southern end of Oregon Hill, it remains one of Richmonds delightful subtleties.

Perfect location to take photos or launch my drone for some river shots.

One of my favorite places to visit as a kid, if I ever move back to Va I’ll have to go visit again ️️

Great views of Belle Isle and Southside.This area has changed so much, and to be honest I miss the old Oregon Hill. This was historically a working class neighborhood with a side of art. Now its morphing into a suburban neighborhood in the middle of the city. I guess people feel safer. When I was young, my friends from the surrounding counties werent allowed to visit me here with my mother. I cant imagine that would be the case today.

This is a pretty incredible place to spend the day. Make sure you are ready to hike.

Place I go to just to get away sometimes

Oregon Hill was always a humble neighborhood where people or families could strive for quality of life with modest income & resources. They had their sunrise & sense of community. The City Council apparently allowed the popular tacky Northern Style development on the narrow strip IN FRONT of the Oregon Hill community. It blocks their long established quality of life in the simple viewing of the sky & rocks of the James. Greed & ignorance must have been at play in the tacky crowded housing units dropped on the hillside. The same box units are dropping everywhere now in Richmond & Chesterfield. Lots being cleared may allow ONE more unit but, it ensures run off & erosion. Planting grass doesnt matter. Trees & vegetation mitigate the speed of rainwater runoff naturally & is FREE. Developing the edge above the riverbed causes erosion & safety issues.
