The place is great for fishing. Nice place for canoeing, currently need to get your own canoe though. Good ambience. Small kid park which is closed now.

My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful fall afternoon! Families having birthday parties, boaters, a father and daughter fishing, a baby bump photo shoot, all in great weather with a view!

Absolutely adore it, good staff and a lovely environment. I would recommend a table cloth and cleaning rag due to the dire state of the seating arena. But an overall great place to commune with others

We went down by the lake and walked on wooded trails. We needed help finding the trailhead. Good parking. Bathroom was clean.

A beautiful park with some lovely shady trails. Too bad there werent very many and they werent very long because it would have been really nice to walk a few more paths around the lake. It was really disappointing to find out that you arent able to access the water of lake Wheeler by banks. There were so many signs posted telling us what we could not do that it was rather depressing. Not really sure why you arent able to wade even at easily accessible more beach-like areas, but it was rather sad to be so close to the nice water and not at least be able to dip our toes in. Im sure theres some rule about water safety or something, but it seemed a bit arbitrary when were watching people drive around with motorized boats towing inflatable rafts filled with little people bouncing around. Obviously theyre in the water but we couldnt even wade??? Oh well its still a nice park to walk around even with the fairly arbitrary rules and limited paths.

My get-away-to-be... nice place. The coffee is good. You can make bbq, rent boats etc. the lake wheeler road is also a beautiful ride.

Great area with smallish lake for fishing boats, kayaks and canoes. Restrooms available but close early. Water craft rentals available also with playground, dock fishing and more. Gates open and close at specific hours so no unlimited usage window for early or late fishing.

Great boat ramps. Beautiful lake and facilities.Took my Carolina Skiff to the lake this morning for a gentleman to try out. Loved the boat and how it handled with 4 people on board. Bought the boat upon arriving back to the docks

Very pretty views from the deck! Great place to go kayaking. These kayaks are easier to control then some other parks we have visited. The kayaks are longer and more comfortable especially if your tall . The single ones have more leg room and good back support. My husband who is 6’4” is very comfortable and even my son likes these and he is 6’ 7”. Very peaceful to paddle around the edge and relax. Great place to fish too!

Great place to fish, take the boat out, have picnics and/or walk the trails. Has a play ground for the kids and dog friendly. No entry fee but there is a fishing fee and boating fee.

Beautiful little park with boat launches, paddle boat and kayak rentals. Freshly painted concession stand and updated restrooms. Too bad covid 19 has put a stop on rentals. Fishing spots off deck. But no swimming or wading allowed. They do have pavillions to rent for get togethers.

Lake Wheeler Park is very pretty with nice facilities, and well maintained. There are picnic areas, playgrounds, a fishing dock, clean restrooms, and lots of green space. I have to give the place only 2 stars though because as a boater/fisherman, I have a problem with the boat ramps.There are 5 boat ramps which seems like a good thing until you realize that the ramps bring your boat in at least 10 feet away from the docks. Instead of being parallel and close to the ramp, the docks actually even further diverge away from the ramp. This means that its difficult for one person to launch a boat from a trailer because he/she has to back the trailer in, release the boat, and then wade in thru rocky, slippery water to push the boat all the way over next to the dock to tie the boat off before returning the trailer to parking. In other words, you cant just back your boat up into the water next to the dock and then tie it off like every other boat ramp in the world. Who dreamed this access up? Somebody who doesnt know boating evidently. Ive put boats in at Harris, Jordan, and Falls Lake as well as the ICW and never encountered anything like this weird setup. If you dont have a second person to power the boat off and on the trailer while the other one backs the trailer in and out of the water, youre just SOL. To make matters worse, Lake Wheeler staff evidently allow folks to tie up boats to the dock and leave them there indefinitely which means that that dock cant be used for launching any boats, at least other than small craft. I saw one boat tied up to the west dock there right near the end of the ramp for at least 3 hours. Too bad. The young park staff seemed really nice and polite but clueless about this issue. Not really a boater friendly place.

Great place to fish, kayak and enjoy a natural setting. I would like to see extended hours if not have it open 24 hours. If its a public park, paid for by the public, it should always be open. Although I understand they cant staff it 24/7 but maybe have certain services not available outside of normal hours but still allow the park to stay open later. The hours during the winter are especially short.

It was great, bigger than I expected. The only thing is, driving in, we werent sure where to go. We drove straight until we saw a bigger body of water, boats, and more parking. I figured on a Sunday afternoon it would be packed, but it wasnt bad. There were people unloading their boats, a playground for the kids, and a lot of seating. I wasnt there for very long, but I will definitely be going back.

This is my first time at Lake Wheeler, and my is it beautiful! Our church rented out the building for our annual picnic today. The building is air-conditioned, the bathrooms are too! In fact, the bathrooms were the best bathrooms at a NC State Park Ive ever been to! There is a huge patio outside the building that is right above the water, with rocking chairs and tables, it was quite stunning actually. There were canoes & peddle boats to rent. The ducks were wannabe to watch as they Sean and walked on shore. I wish I would have taken pictures... I guess I was living in the moment. :) There was a park with play structures for the kids right next to the building. If youve never been, I definitely recommend checking it out. :)

Great place to just take a rest and escape from all the hustle bustle of the city. I went on a weekend and the lake was full of seagulls. It was very beautiful and calming. The park has rocking chairs where u can sit and enjoy the view.

Very cool park. Kayaks and paddle boats for rent, snack stand and covered pavilions for relaxing, playground equipment for children, and exercise options for adults. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Id definitely recommend it for a fun day excursion.

Nice park and lake. They have a nice conference room located right on the lake. Nice deck with rocking chairs and picnic tables.

Lots of great activities to do at this park! The lake is actually a man made reservoir with over 12k acres. There are different access areas for camping, hiking, biking, fishing, boating and swimming. No fees for parking during off season. They start charging by car load on Memorial Day.

We visited Lake Wheeler to paddle our inflatable kayak. There is a $6 fee for non-residents and $4 for residents. We enjoyed a picnic lunch and put in at a sandy beach near the boat house. The boat house has has snacks and drinks.

FUN FUN FUN! Just the perfect size for a day on the lake.

Great park minus the smell. Sewage is right next to walking trail making it unpleasant to walk at times.

I really enjoyed this paddle! I’m relatively new to kayaking but am quickly falling in love! This was my first paddle along side power boats so I was nervous but boaters on the lake were courteous to small craft! The best part is, cross under the road and an entire world opens up. It’s quiet and bird watching is plentiful. There are a lot of coves and Chanels to explore and all were navigatable in a kayak. I was out for almost 3 hours and did not run out of places to paddle. The park itself was busy but not crazy and the staff I dealt with were pleasant and helpful. I will definitely return!

Great place to bring family for picnics, playgrounds, and boating. Theyre are trails to walk here, but I personally dont like it for dog walking as all the trails are random, not connected and not very long.

Biggest handicap stalls Ive ever had the pleasure of using.. I literally fangirled about them for days after using them!! My wheelchair has an elevated left leg rest and I could still easily turn around inside the stall.. oh look, Im fangirling out again.. you get the point lol

This Raleigh City park south of Raleigh is a good sized park. Takes nearly a mile to drive into the main docks and visitor area. They have a snack shop and rent various boats during the summer including paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. There are several docks to walk out on.

For a public space this is about the best you can hope for. My only caveat is that now and then the ramps are out of service, and I wish they still had the SUPs for rent.

My heaven!! Didnt like the the deck lookout area was taken over by people fishing !!! Should be another area for that and let the families enjoy the lower decking area.thx...

We got married here April 2017, not only was the venue affordable but it was gorgeous and a dream for our photos!! They were easy to work with and perfect for our small wedding! The only thing we disliked was still having the snack bar open during our wedding since people stopped and watched who weren’t with us.

Really enjoy going out on paddle boats in the summertime. Beautiful lake with excellent scenery and lots of wildlife.
