Nice trail but too short for bike ride unless a couple miles is enough. Start in east hampton and you can ride as far as you want
Great little section well kept. Just wish it connected to the main trail.
Gravel trail lined by trees thats great for hiking, walking or biking if you have the stamina --- the trail is not totally flat and does have some inclines. The trail wouldnt be good for a wheelchair or even pushing someone in a wheelchair or stroller - youd need some strength because of the gravel and inclines. I entered with my bicycle at the Portland Trail head on Middle Haddam Rd where there is a ginormous parking lot. There is a roadside sign for the trail so that you wont miss the turn into the ample parking lot. The trail had a closed and locked gate when I was there, but you can walk/bike around it. I presume that gate is up so that cars dont get the impression that they can drive on through. There is trail signage with historical information about its origins. Even though the trail is clear and trees are about 10+ feet back off the trail, I noticed that a lot of little flies/bugs either flew in my face or got stuck on my shirt --- not sure if it was just the conditions of the day OR the area! Either way, maybe put on a layer of bug spray. There was no one else in the parking lot or on the trail when I was there, which rarely happens when I go cycling on other trails. It was in a sort of secluded, quiet area surrounded by trees and farmland. So if feeling solitary and detached from the hustle and bustle is not your thing then maybe avoid this trail, especially if youre alone.
Great for biking. Our family of four enjoyed it.
Beautiful day to walk it today.
Great for long distance run
Peaceful place to walk.
Easy hike, peaceful
Im a huge fan of the Air Line trail, especially in Hebron & Colchester, this latest addition to West is well built, but is challenged by long uphill access path and a unceremonial deadend with limited scenic views. So this a great local walk but not a destination hike, yet! Hoping they will be able to continue the path westward!
Nice hike. Some day they will complete the trail to the Connecticut river which I have been waiting for.
Very well groomed. Clean. Easy access.
A recuperative walk for us and our dogs.
Not as scenic as other parts of the Air Line Trail.
Great job Portland!
Nice walking trail
Love it!
3 miles new trail
