Wonderful trails in a clean and quaint Park. Social distancing was easy and it was a nice hike along the trails.

It was a great spot to meet neighbors and their dogs. Now theyre putting in a bunch of leash laws and other things to limit access so it wont be as positive and inclusive of a community gathering space. Real shame this place used to be an easy six out of five stars.

Pretty maintained woods with native Maine trees. While not a large park, it has lots of trails and is very dog friendly.

Not bad for a quick walk through the woods being in such a big city. Some informative plaques to read along the way. But road noise kind of takes away from it being a nature walk. But it is only 30 acres

Very nice quiet wooded area to walk in. Provides cooling from the sun on a hot day. There are a lot of old trees 4 and 5 ft in diameter trees which are a must see.

One fat fabulous forest in the city where dogs can walk off leash. City council trying to change this law. Many people are very upset. Dont take away our dog park!

A nice place for walks with kids. Predictably, its completely mosquito infested, so come prepared.

Little sanctuaries like Baxter Woods make Portland so amazing. Sometimes there isnt time to take the pup on a real hike, so being able to escape into Baxter Woods for a few minutes is perfect! Love this park.

Such a neat little place in the city to get away from the city with out actually leaving the city. Although wish patrons would be more careful with their trash and not treat this woods poke a dump. Lots of dogs off leash, be careful if your dog doesnt do well with free roaming dogs.

Needs more maintenance. Signage is fading and it makes the place feel cheaper.That said, the initial design of Baxter Woods is so excellent and abiding that it is still very much worth visiting. I dont know of any other place in Portland like it.

Baxter woods is a fairly unique forested park boxed between residential streets. You have to park on one of the nearby streets to enter. However, you quickly forget how close to houses you are in the dense vegetation. The loop around only takes a few minutes, but its perfect for a quick stroll or dog walk. There are also a ton of squirrels which is great or terrifying depending on how you look at squirrels.

Nice trails to walk through. However its not the best place for me to bring my 7 month pointer-pit mix. It maybe my fault she isnt better trained on this but she takes off running after squirrels and birds. Takes forever to get her back and I get nervous for her because of the eventual roads she could run into. I need to be clear that this isnt anything against the woods. More of just warning if youre going to bring your high energy puppy. Ive seen raccoons there and interesting birds. Very nice time when I am not chasing my dog down. I wish Portland had any fenced in areas for me to bring my dog by the Brighton Ave area so I could work on training and play.

Baxter Woods is one of my favorite places in Portland. Its a relatively quiet off-leash dog park, one that places more emphasis on the park than the dogs. Youll see several dogs and friendly owners throughout the many trails and clearings, but its a great place for anyone to take a short stroll with or without a dog.

Baxter is great. You can let your dog off leash. A small field to toss the ball. Good for jogging. The trails are well maintained.
