Easy venue, easy parking, friendly staff, decent appetizers and plentiful drinks for those not driving. JP Sears was hilarious. No metal crazy policies, just wear a mask in and out. No Portland drama in this neighborhood that we witnessed. We don’t go downtown much and particularly not in the midst of rioting, but this proved to be well worth the trip.
Not much to look at from the outside, but indoors was reasonably decent. Not a large venue which was nice. Had a table up front and center for Carlos Mencia which was great. All employees were friendly and the wait staff was prompt while being very discreet during the show. The only things I felt that would have made the night more enjoyable would be a little more comfortable chairs, the hard wood chairs like an old diner got to be a little unpleasant after 2+ hours of the show and a little larger drinks, the 6oz plastic cup for my Jack & Coke was a bit much at $12. Overall I had a great time and will most likely return in the future.
This place was so much fun!! Great service and extremely funny comedians! The host of the show was hilarious so much fun for my first night at a stand up comedy show if you’ve never seen stand up live I highly recommend it!!! So funny!!
Ive only been here twice but my mom has come more often. Their drinks are quite good, and I like that they have service even while the show is going on. The showroom is the perfect size for it not to feel extremely intimate but also not overwhelming, I hope they never add any more seats. Cant wait for the next show.
We love going to live comedy, and went to a show last week. The staff is always awesome, and the space between tables was more than appropriate. I only wish that I didnt feel like I was getting ripped off by the TERRIBLE food and watered down drinks. Every food is fried... Boneless chicken wings were so overcooked we barely ate any. Its hard to go out and spend money in a recession and regret it every time.
Helium is the best place for comedy in Portland! The show tonight was so good. All the comedians were hilarious!
Love going to this place. They are taking every precaution to keep their guests safe during Coronavirus but I will be happy when they can start serving food on plates again.
Great club, the service was on point. And the comedians were absolutely hilarious. I couldnt believe the headliner kept it going as long as he did and had me laughing the whole time.
Seating is not great at this location. It is a small venue so prices in seating should not have a large difference. You are either at a table on the floor in front of the stage or behind a wall looking over the edge to the stage. There are also seats against the back wall. We paid 180.00 (incl. tax) for “reserved seating,” table of 4, but were placed on the other side of the wall. Would not pay this much again, only went through with it because of Felipe Esparza! Also, the house policy is a mandatory 2 item, but we got away with 1 drink each.
Comedians were great and vibe was cool. It was nice to have some fun and normalcy for a little bit. Great show!
Awesome venue. Glad I got to see a legend like Felipe Esparza! and a heckler got kicked out by the crowd lol legendary set
Its my home club! I love them. The staff is great! Nobody works harder!
Saw Brian Regan there. He was awesome! They get a lot of big names you dont see elsewhere in the area.
It was REALLY nice to get out and Tom Papa was fantastic. The downside was the kitchen and wait staff were REALLY loud in the next room. With the door remaining open it was very distracting. Can we do something about that?
Did a great job making everyone comfortable in the very uncomfortable times we are unfortunately living through. Also, Brian Reagan is fantastic
Love the venue! I appreciate all of the hard work from the staff, and the comedians.
Best laugh time Ive had in a while. Thanks Helium
This is a really nice venue! Big enough to feel nice and small enough to still feel intimate. They have a waiting room/lounge where you can get food and drinks before the show with good atmosphere and comfortable seating. The venue itself has small reserved tables on a lower level near the stage and row seating behind that slightly elevated. The servers were friendly And efficient and all around it was a great experience. They even have an elevator so if you have trouble getting up stairs you can still access the show!
Went to see Sam Tripoli live recently. Its great to be able to see comedy again and everything about the experience from the building to staff was great!
It was good to see live entertainment again!
Always a good time with great service!
I like smart comedy - please have more of that. Fun place to see comics perform - the seating situation is kind of intense in a sold out show. Packed in like sardines. Decent drinks and food. I recommend ordering food with your drinks as you may only see the waitress twice if its a packed show.
Had a great experience in the club. The bar isnt anything special though, if youre going to come here definitely come watch a show! I only wish they had a better selection of non alcoholic drinks.
All the comics were funny and I probably spent more money then I should have.....but the one thing that stood out the most was the wait staff once you get into the venue. They worked so efficient and were very nice, offering suggestions. The food was great and came quickly and I never ran out of drinks. The placed was packed and these guys never missed a beat!Honestly, others can learn.....the staff made it a great night as well as the cooks and backstage staff!
Great experience at Helium! It was my wifes and mine first time at a comedy club and we were not disappointed on bit! Great acts from the performers as well as good food and drink for a very reasonable price!
Parking lot stand-up show to laugh outdoors in a socially distanced way! I missed laughing with other people
We always have fun when we see a show at Helium!
Went there to see Sheryl Underwood. It was purely Laughing all night!! The stairs were intimidating but they do have accessible elevators. The bar was nicely decorated with comfortable setting. The show space was intimate n you literally forgot you were there with a crowd of other people
Treated so badly. We have come many times and enjoyed the experience so we decided to take a large group for my husbands birthday. The day before the show I called to add one more ticket to our group and was told no problem i clarified we could sit together 3 times. We show up and one person was somewhere else. I was told at the tickets booth again, no problem, tell them at the door. So we wait in line and as I hand them all the tickets I explain the situation. I was told no. They could we could all 11 sit in the back because the show was not sold out. Not a big deal so I said we paid for reserved can we get the extra $110 back if we did that. I was told no and they only other way was to have someone sit somewhere else. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was. I asked why we couldnt pull up an extra chair and he said it was a fire hazard. We happen to have someone in the group extremely familiar with fire code due to their job and they said that was absolutely not true. So I again say we are very unhappy and he said hed give me my money back for the one ticket and comp my meal. He then offers me a gift certificate and at this point Im wondering why would I want to go back so asked just for the money. In the end the show was great but we received zero compensation.
Way up tight staff they ruided it..not fun at all
Very great comedians and service. Tip your servers!
Definitely the best comedy club in Oregon. They always have great comedians and they also have great customer service with the wait staff. This has become my wife and my date spot. Even though it is almost 2 hours from our house it is well worth the drive. My wife has been a bartender for over 2 decades and usually when we go to a restaurant or a club she finds something wrong with the drinks....ie short pour or too heavy with mixers or just blatant attitudes from the bartender. But every time we have been to Helium they are so nice and have great smiles and really make you feel happy that you are there. Plus they made her drinks perfect and my Vodka is always a good potato vodka that they pour just a little heavy to my liking. And that is why we tip well and will always go there for our short get-away.We love it.
Just saw Fortune Feimster and it was a great time. We arrived early and enjoyed the lounge and were able to get up and hop in line for the showroom. Yes, seating can seem tight, but its better than a theater in small chairs. No seat seems bad in here as the venue is intimate setting. Food and drink service was good. I like the pesto quesadillas!
I always have fun here weather I go with friends or by myself. If you like stand up comedy, than I recommend it. Occasionally some big names will appear.
Great comedy sweet space
So grateful to have this comedy club in town! Ive seen so many big headliners at reasonable prices and despite somewhat crowded seating, you can always see the stage really well.Used to go to Harveys in Portland but was regularly was disappointed by their consistently rude and terrible service. So grateful Helium came on the scene, these guys do it right!
I just finished Stand-Up Comedy 101 with Alex Falcone and it was such a rewarding experience. Alexs teaching is smart, kind and extremely positive, allowing him to bring out the funny in just about anyone. The class is super supportive, Alex is hilarious, and the grad show is a blast. I highly recommend studying with Alex if youve ever thought about stand-up or just want to explore the funnier side of yourself - hes amazing.
Great Comedians! The employees were very welcoming and helpful. The servers were great!! The drinks were worth it!! We had a great time!!
Fantastic food and drinks! The entertainment was hilarious! I hadnt laughed that hard in a long time!
Absolutely love coming here for shows. It is conveniently located not too far off the freeway and surrounded by a lot of local breweries so there are many before and after show hangout options. They have great big name comics come here and Ive enjoyed every show. It can be a little cramped if it is a sold out show which on one hand is good cause youre close to the performer but can be uncomfortable when trying to eat. Great menu and staff. I recommend showing up no later than an hour before show start because you have to get in 1 line for your tickets then another line to get seated.
I very much appreciated the way the staff kept the unruly patrons in check in a timely manner, letting the rest of us truly enjoy the show. Nothing soils a gathering like that like an inebriated mouthy individual. Then add a great comic, and its magic!!
The comedians were funny. But our waiter decided to ignore us and only brought our drinks after I asked the hostess about it. Do not get the orange juice! Its just water with food coloring!!! And they never came back to get a food order. I left hungry. Had to go to Sharis for something to eat!!! But again the comedians were funny!!!
I always have a good time here. They have some good names come through. Food and beverage is a well oiled machine. Will be back!
Great comics come through and they showcase some good local talent as well. Seats are comfortable, food is good (if a bit spend for the quality - beers $8-$9, cocktails $11), 2 items required to be purchased per person during the show. Its a great date night.
Went and saw Michael Rapaport last night. For some reason wasnt expecting good service at Helium. I was wrong! Sat down at our table. Our waiter came up right away, took our order, and less than 10 minutes our food and drinks. He was so attentive. Fast. Took care of his tables like a professional. Great place and service!
I saw the great Adam Pasi last night and it was of course a great show!! This club has great environment and staff, I really enjoy the comfort of coming here :) Thank you!
I enjoyed the shows very much, good selection of beer. Bartenders are friendly. Blew my socks off laughing! and the food was great! Cocktails are fantastic
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Lacking on drink selection. Would go again tho!
Ive been going to Helium Comedy Club for several years and always have a great experience. Excellent talent and entertainment, good food and drinks plus the staff is always friendly and helpful. Easy parking around there too.
Headliner was great; opening acts were funny, but I’m modifying my review to reflect our experience last night in hopes that management sees and chooses to do something about it. The man running the door was rude, talked poorly about other guests in front of us (and to them for that manner), and had absolutely no organizational plan when it came to running the door. He ended up letting TONS of people go in front of the correct people at the front of the door due to his poor crowd management. I managed to run into one of the other customers who were belittled by him and allowed them to cut in front of us. I’ve NEVER seen such poor crowd management and service at either Helium or Harvey’s. Service is slow, but you’re there to see a comedian, not eat an entire meal. My advice; order your drinks and food all at once (you have ample time to look; don’t give me a weak excuse haha) and I’m sure you’ll be satisfied. Things happen, kitchens run out of stuff, the world goes on. Our server was pleasant and it was one of the best Dirty Shirley’s I’ve had. Have reasonable expectations and you won’t be disappointed here (aside from the verbal assault at the door).
The arrangement of seatings was awesome. Didn’t seem to be a bad seat in the house. Food was unexpectedly great. Comedy was EXCELLENT! And food service was above expectations. Highly recommended.
This is THE #1 professional comedy club in PDX & has outstanding professional performers that tour through here. It is also a wonderful place for personal enrichment where you can take a comedy class & try your hand at cracking a few jokes! The food and service here are excellent! Staff are friendly & helpful. Definitely dont miss the opportunity to check this place out!
Enjoyed the show, and appreciated the bar outside the show where you line up. Nicer than Cobbs Comedy Club in San Francisco where you line up on the sidewalk for 30+ min. Also excellent food and drink service during the show. One issue was the sound system seemed harsh or too loud at times. Could have just been our particular seats in the general admission area.
We went to a popular event. Comedy was fine but crowd control was very poor with multiple lines and people sent in out of order. I think we entered towards the back because we followed the directions. I believe they could have cleaned the room much faster and started seating people long before the line got so long.Staff doesnt seem to care about customers very much.Comedy itself was good.
Nice size club. Would love better seats next time but who wouldn’t.
Best place in town to just kick back and let the stress fly off with laughter.
Food really good, better than you would think a comedy club would offer
Not my exact style of comedy but a great way to spend the evening. Only 4 stars bc the tables are so small its hard for 2 people to eat. Nice place good atmosphere
Fun show, great staff
Grate venue with decent food. I saw Cheryl Underwood there and had a great time!
Best comedy club in town! Been here 30+ times and really enjoy the consistent lineup of great acts. We bring friends with us often and enjoy all aspects of the club. Will be back! See you soon
Great night, a lot if talented comedians. Seating was extremely dark, coming in from daylight, there was almost no way to see where seating is until my eyes adjusted. Seating is packed with very little room per table. Service was a little slow, took over 30 minutes to get a drink. Establishment could do better to direct newcomers around the building, wasnt sure where to go upon arrival.
I always have so much for here! Great date night and entertainment!
I absolutely love helium I have been to some awesome shows their the last show was to see Jay Mewes... The show before that was to see DL Hughley Kevin Smith Ive also seen him there absolutely love it great for date nights.
Great place and loved the act we attended to see. Great fun!
Helium is a fun, intimate theater. I have a good time every time I visit.
Chad Daniels was hilarious, the comedy club is laid out a little weird but it sure is efficient! Pricey, worth the drink prices
Love the atmosphere, 2 drink minimum thing is a downer, especially for those who don’t like to drink. If you don’t order 2 drinks they still charge you for them. You can get around this by ordering two sodas or whatever your preference is. Reserving seats gets you the best experience and super close to the comics. Overall though one of my favorite places to go for a stand-up show!
I wish we wouldve seen a better comedian. Also, service is SLOW. We tried leaving early, but were held hostage because our waiter wouldnt close our tab. We were literally forced to sit through the remaining 30 minutes because our waiter didnt want us to leave. Absolutely unacceptable.
Nice and clean. Staff was quick and friendly. Show was awesome! All around great comedy club
Packed in seats, overpriced items, and bad service that hasnt improved in years. Up from two stars because they finally dropped the two item minimum. Good comedy, though.
As a former comedy club employee, I have utmost respect and love for the promptness, efficiency, and patience of the wait staff in this place
Good comedy in small venue, from tickets to wait staff all friendly, good service.
Its your typical Comedy Club. The stage is small and the places intimate so thats a bonus theres a lot of seating in the back so its nice if you want to be removed from the stage is supposed to be dead center and get made fun of the entire show. Services average not necessarily friendly but quick. The food is grossly average and nothing special about that at any fashion but youre not there to eat food. Overall I will go back and its a neat little place
Always a great time. Spend the extra couple bucks and get VIP tickets. This way you can bypass the line.
Have only been once, and for open mic night, but we had a great time! I always assumed open mics would be awkward to watch but it turns out the vast majority of the 20 or so amateurs who performed the Tuesday we went were really good. Even the 2 or 3 people who werent so great, gave it a good try and the crowd was supportive. I think the 7 minute format is a good idea as it gives the comics a but more time to get into their material. Id definitely come back.
Both warm up comedian were great; Leanne was awesomely funny!!
We had a great evening and the comedian was off the hook! So funny we all need to laugh more!
I am always impressed by the quality of the comedians. It is a fun night out with friends or on a date night.
My group of 6 arrived 3 min late and they were trying to find us seats together. Luckily there was a reservation for 6 that didnt show up so we waited until 15 after and they gave us the reservation. So we had amazing second row seats. The service was great, the acts were hilarious and we had a great time! Would definitely go back again!
Loved the VIP meet n greet. Food was pretty darn good too!!Saw Stonecold and the Jackal- great show!!
Always enjoy my evening when I go to Helium. Theres almost always a great headliner, and when they dont have a national stand-up on stage, they still provide premium comedy for the dollars. Food and drink are inexpensive, and always tasty. The staff, from box office to servers, is always kind and considerate. The only issue I have is when they have a full house, my large, broken frame gets sat between people and a wall. But its a minor gripe, and the shows more than make up for it.
Ive been here for two different comedians, Margaret Cho, and Michelle Wolf. The venue seems to be the premiere place in Portland for Mid-Tier Comedians. I put that in quotes because the acts Ive seen have been as funny as anyone around. The Venue itself is perfectly sized. Its just small enough to feel close and connected with the Comedians (even if youre at the back of the place), but its big enough to get a good uproar when a good joke connects. There are two bars in the place and table service. During a packed show you can expect the wait staff to drop by one or two times for drinks and food.Id highly recommend going here. Im sure Ill be going back.
I assumed the venue would be small but it was even more intimate than I expected. The reserved seats were worth the upcharge. Would definitely go again.
The club was nice and the show was fantastic. It’s the neighborhood that rates this place low. Nowhere to park because I wasn’t going to park right in front of a bum camp. It would be good for business if you would get them out of your neighborhood.
Love the intimate setting. Great background great names to watch. Food is good, even the hummus.
Saw a local talent contest. Diana Potter was halarious. Tables were really small for 4 people. It was really dark in there! Small venue. Had a blast!
The place was great. Getting tickets for the show was easy and was happily suprised with front row seats for one of my favorite person on earth, Cheryle Underwood. I got to see her when I was young on cable and felt blessed last night.
