A uniquely interesting and somewhat eclectic blend including vignettes of liberty through the ages, glass art, historical collections and feature installations, at a reasonable price. Can’t quite describe it completely, which is like so many worthwhile things in life...
My friend and I were just walking around the city to explore the area and accidentally came across this museum. This place does not have an admission fee. We were greatly surprised by what we saw, we were so happy we stumbled upon this place in our way. Every floor focuses on a different theme but in general it is a very uplifting and inspiring place. There are a few great messages behind all the displays about unity and sacrifice. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
Campos cheesesteaks loves the National Liberty Museum
Neat Museum with very cool artifacts from 9-11 and history in general. There was a cool art exhibit themed after David Bowie when my wife and I went.
I highly recommend this place! Beautiful museum (not too big, great for elementary school aged children) and friendly staff. The ladies in the education department are fantastic. Ask about their events!
Beautiful place to bring your family or love ones for a day of fun. There is so much to discover. I learned alot about people and things I was unaware of. Very educational place youre guarantee to takeaway knowledge from here.
Awesome place to bring our kind and youngsters to get them aware. I had great experience here because last time when i visited here i found lot of great stuff. I would like to recommend this place to all .
Some very powerful exhibits. Educational, emotionally provocative and aesthetically pleasing. Worth a visit.
Since this city is full of history & museums... this museum is considered a smaller one. Admission is way cheaper as well. If you have limited time visiting the city, then use your time wisely since there are so many museums in this area.
Nice museum filled with lovely sculptures interesting history and some very shocking, disturbing but necessary facts about the worlds and this countrys history... At the same time sadly, I feel like its a bit bias towards alot of people and races that have also suffered. I also got the feeling that some of the employees are keeping the hate/divide agenda and segregation alive rather than teaching, collaborating and unifying which I thought this country and museum was all about....It truly is a sad and misguided day we live in. Smh
I love it because it has a lot of history and the way it has stories.
The exhibits were well described and documented. Recognition of the close relationship of three monotheistic religions in the search for freedom and liberty was great. The price was right.
My friend was an art person and my first time visit to this place.. thought it was boring but I liked the museum and a lot of good information!!
Interesting, educational and moving
Beautiful place to bring family
Great museum with a lot of interesting things to see
Outstanding exhibits. Inspirational and well worth the $9.00 admission fee.
Love this place! The Flame of Liberty Chihuly in the lobby is my favorite piece. This is a inexpensive gem of a museum located in Old City with the Heroes of 911 memorabilia, stained glass biblical scenes, & jellybean babies.
If you havent been there go. One of Phillies little treasures.
Came to the National Liberty Museum for a class trip. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is because I wish we were able to see more of it. Our Tour Guide was awesome and explained things really well, I went with my sons 5th grade class, our tour guide definitely kept the whole class interested and explained things more on their level so they werent left looking clueless. This was the first time I been to this museum so I must say, it was better than I thought it would be. Theres alot of history and meaning put into this place. A bit shocked that I lived here in Philadelphia all my life, been to so many museums for class trips, but never once been to this one. Im glad I had the opportunity to go and will hopefully go again soon but this time, not on a time limit.
Very inspirational
Nothing really to see .
Very educational experience and lots to look at!
It was nice to be able to walk around and see pictures and learn about American history and other histories throughout the world They had pictures of the people to Warner and told the back story about them it was a very enjoyable place
Went there with my 10 y.o daughter - we both got very inspired. Great place to visit if you want to restore your faith in humanity & learn WHY we shouldnt be taking our liberty and freedom for granted.
I love this place! I loved the support to the people that outwardly they are such wonderful stars but personally have their own battles to fight. And they are real heros. I loved the beautiful flame which is lit only by group effort..I enjoyed seeing the video about the teenager who grew veges to help feed the poor.. And the story of the artist who is thankful to be in the sweet land of Liberty the USAI also enjoyed learning about the wonderful group of people who celebrate their musical abilities instead of focusing on some disability they have. It was very inspiring for me.I loved the extraordinary exhibits for example the one exhibit of the stained glass pictures with themes from the bible that show the peoples fight for peace and freedom, and giving people hope for liberty..
Event for AA on Friday for Womens History Month. Dynamic women whose careers have been very successful to date. Reached n went thru Glass ceiling in a Museum about history that features items made of Glass.....Most fitting....fragile yet very strong.
Amazing Museum! There were times my heart and soul was touched and overwhelmed at the same time!
It was a great trip you got to visit !
Cheap tickets for students. The glass sculpture is great. The switch on the corner can be used for ochanging the lights for the later. I expected movie to be general but its bit focused. The museum also has full.size liberty Bell, so is a good place to take pictures.
Very cool, Bowie exhibit.
Beautiful stories explaining the history of freedom. Start at the top floor and work your way down.
Great and moving museum. I really enjoyed it
Great exhibits on meaningful contributors to liberty, both domestic and abroad.
A great bit of history in such a small place. Theres tons of artwork from LGBT on the first floor and lower floor. As you go up theres much more on liberty from around the world with pictures and videos, as well as some interactive listening stations. Great for all ages to learn.
Love this place on mothers day it was raining and we were the only ones there
I visited this museum because I mistakenly thought it was aimed at adults. But once there, I realized this is definitely a children’s museum (and a young children’s museum at that). The two pieces that I thought sounded most interesting – recreations of Nelson Mandela’s jail cell and Anne Frank’s bedroom – were both very simplistic, with little effort or research behind them. The entire top floor is an exhibit about religion, claiming that religion is the basis of liberty and has never been used to promote bigotry or pass oppressive laws. This floor also includes a chess set with Jewish caricatures as the pieces (see photo). Another floor features a lot of Chihuly-style glass art, and I still dont know what that has to do with liberty. Recommended for ages 10 and under.
I visited the National Liberty Museum earlier this month, and I found it to be a wonderful experience. For the art lover, there are some beautiful art glass exhibits, and I found the museums theme of character-based education through the lens of liberty to be truly moving. Some of the exhibits that use artwork to highlight the many challenges at-risk youth face in modern America are emotional, but hope is offered by highlighting historical examples of folks who have overcome challenges by focusing on leadership and good character, diversity and inclusion. Definitely worth a visit, and the museum can be easily experienced with an hour of spare time.
It was great .I enjoy every bit of it
Really enjoyed this museum.
Today, I had the opportunity to visit the National Liberty Museum with my students. I had never visited the museum before, and was blown away by all the exhibits. Our guides were wonderful and very knowledgeable. The students also couldnt stop raving about everything they learned and saw. I will definitely be going back again, this time without my students, to see and learn more. It was such a great experience for all.
Multimedia. Well done. Less about artifacts and more about Native Americans.
Wonderful exhibits about people who stood up for all sorts of rights and liberty...from early settlers to gay rights activists. And the Dale Chihuly and other glass artists sculptures were a beautiful counterpoint. We think the museum needs a better name and external advertising that is more appropriate to the content...but it was a treat to actually go in and find very moving exhibits (that I didnt expect at all from the outside...thought it was a touristy, right-wing rah-rah kind of place and its not at all!! Great for the family, with activities especially for kids, interactive exhibits, and a lot to inspire all of us to be courageous and to stand up for whats right and for those who are denied their rights.) And the 9/11 photos are of first responders, police and firefighters and others who gave their lives in service of others.
Dont be fooled by the name the national liberty center, it is far from any of your expectations. If you like to see pictures of Americans who died on 911 and you enjoy glass vases then this is the place to visit. Why its called the national liberty center doesnt make sense at all to me. The name is a scam to get you to go inside.
This is not a place to visit if you want mindless entertainment. That is what the one-star reviewers probably expected, and there are other places to find it. However, if you want to experience beautifully presented thought-provoking exhibits, if you want to be enriched, if you enjoy fabulous glass art, then this is a museum that you shouldnt miss whether youre young or old!
Great Museum. School groups were there when I visited; students seemed totally engaged and interactive with very attentive tour guides. Wonderful glass sculptures.Outstanding anti-bullying messages and we all have the ability to be Hero. Glad I found it!!
Awesome and moving
Parking is tough but nice little museum
Great place to visit!
Powerful. History that needs to be remembered forever.
I got to see the p funk mothership.
Great exhibits, very educational and uplifting. Great for students, informative on liberalization why we are all one regardless of class color or creed...
Would thoroughly recommend for all ages....possibly not really for under 6 s but so worth a visit . Extremely informative and thought provoking from the introductory video. We spent a lot longer than we thought we would and learned so much. Well done all involved with this Liberty Museum.
Great place to take kids !
Quirky little space. Kind of a hodgepodge. Some amazing glass art on display, including a chihuly. Also some original works by Chagall. Not a destination but not a disappointment, either.
Interesting museum with a number of random exhibits however primarily on glass and other general concepts on liberty as well as those who have striven/strive for liberty worldwide ( read Nelson Mandela, Anne Frank, Mahatma Gandhi). They also have dinnerware items from the White House, upto Jimmy Carters administration. The centerpiece exhbit, flame of liberty is beautiful, serene and the whole space has this vibe when not busy.Start on the 4th floor as suggested by the staff and work your way down.Went on a free day as part of the Wawa Welcome America events. Friendly Staff.
Pretty cool museum, and aside from the beautiful glasswork, an effective and moving reminder that freedom and equality is an ongoing fight
Really not good. Nothing in it
Awesome experience, a lot of History.
Let us help the young homeless man (left lower corner) lives a life of hero
This museum was a waste of time and money! 3 floors of absolutely nothing and its not related to American Liberty history in any way. The messages about love, friendship and diversity that tries promote was nice and the staff is friendly. But the museum itself has nothing to offer. Maybe for really small kids (?) and besides the huge attraction is a glass sculpture you can see from the gift shop. My advise dont go
Well done museum in old city. Lots of unique exhibits.
Very touching
You need to make your way to the famous glass chess board that used to be at corning glass musuem
Good Theme, less content. Needs about 2 hr
A spectacular experience! A well keep secret!
Fantastic place to visit. I strongly recommend taking a tour.
Skip it! I was fortunate to tour it on MLK Day so the admission was free, thats the good news. The bad news is it was not much of a museum at all! The entire building is dedicated to art and social causes with political agendas. Tyrants, atrocities, holocaust....etc. and human struggle for liberty.None of it pertained to any of the local Philadelphia colonial history right down the street which is almost all free admission. There are no historical objects in the entire building except for a US flag signed by rescue searchers at Ground Zero 9-11.I would advise you skip this at all costs unless its free admission. Had I paid for admission I would have been very upset.
Nice little museum. If you follow them on fb, the admission fee would be 3 dollars. But that was 4 years ago.
Awesome adventure!
Great experience
A wonderful place to seek inspiration from history
Very nice place, small but very meaningful
I have lived in Philadelphia area 17 years and never really heard about this museum (it is not the Liberty Bell museum), so we were very pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon it yesterday. This museum promotes freedom and diversity. It is very open minded and forward thinking. It advocates against violence and discrimination. It has thought-provoking exhibits about religion, DNA, violence, etc. Also, there is some surprisingly beautiful glass art. I think children and teens can especially benefit from visiting this museum. Some highlights – memorial for the 9/11, jelly belly people – we all have the same ingredients even though we may appear different, advise how to avoid and resolve conflict, etc.
Very inspiring and moving
It was good
Fabulous theme, and incredibly inspiring!
I loved this museum!!!! Very powerful and emotional
Just go, you have to see it!
Amazing place. Moving.
Love love loved it
Theme is vert good, content is less
Did an amazing job with my friends wedding
Nice place to visit for history
This name is heavily misleading. This museum is about Glassworks, 9/11, and LGBT ideas. Had nothing to do with the revolutionary War or the history of Philadelphia.
Good history information
Great

I like it a lot
