I LOVED the self guided audio tour. I’m always up for self guided tours. The building was beautiful and the atmosphere was eerie. My only complaint was that it was pouring out during our visit. But that can’t be helped by the staff and all. Was just bad timing on our part. It was still great even through the rain. 10/10. Great place to visit. Will be returning for a night tour as soon as possible!
Coolest place in Philly to take out-of-towners. The audio guides are perfect, the tickets are now timed so you dont have to worry about running into large groups or swarms of people. I dont think you would have to even touch anything except the audio guide which is sanitized. Highly recommend for a really lovely afternoon!
Night Tours was new for ESP this fall replacing (due to CoVID) their normal haunted experience around Halloween. The Night Tours run only certain nights of the week throughout October-mid November. If wanting to visit, seeing the old prison at night just increases the natural creepiness of decaying cells. Upon entering, everyone gets a personal audio tour device, so you’re following the signs and listening as your own pace. If we ever go again, I’d visit again at night if available. Very well done!
This penitentiary is one of the older ones and has a feel similar to Alcatraz. At the moment, self-guided audio tours are available and are very well put together. A lot of the structures are in rough shape but that’s what makes it cool. Tours are reasonably priced and there’s a lot to see including one of Al Capone’s cells!
Very cool to walk the halls of the previous inmates and even enter their cells. The tour is on a recording device, so it allows you to go at your own pace. This prison is a maze, so you’ll be here for an hour or so!
This place was so cool! This unplanned stop on our trip to Philadelphia, was probably the coolest place we visited. The tour was very affordable and easy to get into. Tours can be reserved in advance online and begin every 30 minutes. Upon arrival, the staff are very efficient about getting you into the building. While we were there, we found the grounds to be very clean (including the bathrooms). The tour is s self-paced audio tour. The audio tour is very comprehensive and guides you through the prison from entrance to exit. After that, there is a lot of additional content for those who want to explore further into the prison. Overall, I think we spent about 1.5 to 2 hours exploring the prison, listening to the audio recordings, and interacting with the historic items/areas around the facility. The audio tour is extremely entertaining and professional. It includes contributions from professional actors and interviews/testimonials from inmates that were at the prison. I have focused on the audio tour, but the architecture is so cool too! You could spend a couple hours just looking at the architecture around the facility. I enjoyed this place very much and highly recommend it to anyone passing through or looking for something to do.
The employees are very friendly and helpful. The story of the prison was interesting. My high schoolers (boys 15 & 16) were engaged and interested. My middle schooler (12 year old girl) was into it somewhat.Elementary age was not interested at all.
Great experience! The self guided tour was awesome. They gave me some earphones and a player and I was able to take my time listening to all of the info (which was really interesting) while looking around and taking pictures. The place itself is really impressive and creepy. It was fun.
Just feel it. A lot of history. Take some time to listen the audio device they gave you......you will enjoy the journey in history.
Amazing! Very informative staff. No guided tour needed however for there are signs and informational packets as well as self guided listening tours available. Super creepy and really cool to experience!
Great tour! The audio was well narrated and detailed, most of the penitentiary is open to walk through. Great history of inmate life and how it changed of the years, amazing that it was kept intact.
This place is ABSOLUTELY a must-see in Philadelphia! Lots of people come for the spooky haunted version around Halloween, which, dont get me wrong, is awesome and worth a trip every year, however, go during the day too! It was so interesting learning about the prison and the art exhibits inside were very special! You can do a self-guided audio tour so you can go at your own pace, take a breather, etc. Really, this is a MUST see.
Super creepy and awesome at the same time. The tour was great and the staff were wonderful. Witnessing how these inmates lived was a surreal experience. This location was on our bucket list for some time and we were glad that we were able to visit. We have a full review on our blog site and YouTube channel.
One of my favorite places in Philly. They do an amazing job at keeping the prison in a suspended state of decay, along with teaching you about the history of the prison and the criminal justice system and the current issues with the system.P.S. if you come in the winter wear a coat, the entire prison is open to the elements.
Took the VIP tour here for Terror Behind the Walls haunted house. Had an amazing time and well worth the expense! You get to skip the line (which was extremely long) any have a behind scene tour of the jail. Opted in to be touched or taken from the tour and they did not disappoint. Was ‘taken’ three times! Put into a dentist chair once while a demented dentist terrorized me. Taken into a contamination area and grabbed a few times while walking through exhibits. The behind the scenes history tour we took prior to the haunted house was amazing and highly recommended! Spent time at the Speakeasy afterwards and enjoyed a drink. The souvenir shop is very small and was extremely congested. So much so, I turned around and left because of it. They have food vendors at the end that are meh and overpriced. I don’t recommend them. Wish I lived closer so I could do this every year!
Great place, and if you time it right you can be the only ones there. Guided tour with the audio was great and if you book online you get two bucks of each admission. Also look online e for a promo code and got an additional 5 bucks off per ticket making it 9 dollars each!
Really interesting place. I thought it would be creapier, but they tried to keep it light, and we went during the day, and not on Halloween... The exhibits were all interesting. The audio tour was a nice touch with multiple narrators, some being actors. Did not do the guided tour, but would if I went back again. We did a small guided tour through the hospital and solitary cells that was very interesting and informative.
Super interesting histrorical place to visit. For me just being here was worth the trip from NYC to Philly. The penitentiary is really impressive and a bit creepy, too.I recommend to join the 2 pm guided tour (it lasts about 1 h). Our guide (Alex, I think) was well prepared and managed to involve all the people of the group asking for opinions and comments quite often.I suggest to buy the tickets online, thus saving 2$/ea.
Went here on our first trip to Philly with my significant other. We purchased the tickets online (you save $2) and went right through with our mobile tickets. Staff was immediately helpful and very polite! Walkable from the Art museum (less than 15 minutes) Lots of stuff to do, and things to see! You also learn so much about incarceration especially in our country now! So many things to see and enjoy you can be here all day long! Very cool to see and cool things to learn. Left with some cute things from the gift shop that weren’t too overpriced! Keep up the good work!
Definitely worth a visit. The audio tour is well narrated and detailed. However, it is incomprehensible to me that the working hours are not adjusted for covid times. We got the tickets for the last entry at 3:30 PM. (the museum closes at 5 PM) I do not feel like we took any extra time but simply followed the audio tour. And yet, the last bit was rushed or had to be skipped because of the staff was standing behind us and obviously waiting for us to leave. If we hadnt been stopped several times by staff and asked to wait and let the group in front of us clear to ensure social distancing, Im sure we would have finished the tour by closing time. Im glad they are enforcing CDC guidelines and, therefore, I felt comfortable visiting the place. However, it doesnt seem to be fair to sell tickets for time slots when you know it may not allow visitors enough time to enjoy the whole tour.
Great place to tour. Make sure to clear some time in your day because it’s a big place. You’re provided Walkman style devices to guide you along the way. You can also opt for guided tours. (Pre-COVID)
Highly recommend to visit this great place and the history.
I gave 5 stars but I should have not. The place is interesting to visit but the purpose of it is not. Be curious and go visiting this place. This place reminds me of how much human kinds are wrong about how they do things. I learned a lot.
Eastern State was for sure my favorite place while visiting Philadelphia. It’s incredible to see so much history and actual visit one of the most known penitentiaries that existed or even more, have a look in Al Capone’s cell. The audio tour is incredible informative and the time was well spent.
Absolutely excellent museum and well worth the visit. Parking was easy between parallel parking in front and a lot nearby. Prices were very reasonable given the huge amount of content.I followed the audio tour (headset / keypad) which does an excellent job stepping you through the key parts in a very efficient manner. Took me about 1.5 hours to complete it. Once done with that (or at any time really) you can venture around freely. Many areas have additional audio content that you can read / listen to.My favorite part was the variety. As its extremely old, its neat to see different sections set up to be period correct to a certain era. I was also worried it would just be a bunch of empty cells, but its far from it. There are numerous exhibits within cells both historical and artistic to mix things up. Lastly, there is an excellent section on modern prisons and modern statistics that provides and interesting look at the current state of our system.Id certainly reccomend this to anyone!
I really enjoyed the audio tour. I do wish that they would stagger people more with the physical distancing requirement. I felt bad about holding people up or having to wait on the people in front of me who were taking lots of family photos. I was ok with waiting, but I think they felt rushed with me waiting.Parking was pretty easy and I walked around a bit before the tour. I think theyre doing a good job keeping things clean and accommodating needs and questions.
Al Capones cell..no others look this good! Went during covid so pretty much go on your own and listen as you go. I would like to go back at Halloween at night!
I think this place is one of the coolest museums you may ever seen. They atmosphere is so cool including a lot of different aspects of daily life of a prisoner back in 1800s and 1900s.Along with an awesome voice tour guide, you can visit every single room on your own and get lots of information in like 2 hours.I believe it is awesome that they preserved the place and didnt demolish it after it was closed down. Lots of stories about famous prisoners and life styles back that time, and the architect of the place itself will amaze you. This is another MUST SEE place here at Philly.
Drove from north Jersey to get here, and Id say it was worth it! The entire event was so well planned! Parking is tough to find, so keep that in mind. From the second youre in line to even the zombie guard dance show after the scare event is over, its entirely immersive. If you go on Thursdays you get a free daily tour ticket if you buy online. If you come early for the day time. You should try to reserve tickets for the walking tour(its included for free, just limited in space). I know everyone on here has taken those iconic perspective shots down the prison corridors, but it doesnt do it justice to the real thing. Awesome exhibit on how messed up our prison system with mass incarceration fever is. Hope you enjoy!
This place is great. So much history and such a great tour. They give you your own personal audio tour so you can take your time. Then when the tour is over there are countless points if interests that have more information via audio recordings. It is an easy two to three hour expedition. The recordings range from former guards and inmates to psychologists and sociologists. There is something for everyone to learn and experience here. The staff was all very helpful and courteous. There are some great photo opportunities as well. We walked from city hall and it was a beautiful and safe walk. This place is great, right up there with Alcatraz as far as history, architecture and information.
Very interesting history. Can easily spend over an hour or two there. Dress warm in the winter! Al Capone’s cell was closed for renovations. The Synagogue was a cool find!
This is a place you wont expect to visit. Then once you visit, you wouldnt mind going back. Even though the cells are small, the penitentiary is huge.Youll learn about multiple criminals and visit their jail cell. Bring a camera, good place to shoot photos at.
Absolutely worth the visit, this historical landmark is incredibly interesting, has an audio tour, and is wonderfully preserved it its ruined state. Its large enough to hold your interest and small enough to still be fun to explore in a few hours. Dress as though youre outside because, in effect, you will be as you tour the place. Its camera friendly, you just need to pay a little extra for the ability to use a tripod if you want. Worth it, in my view. Id love to return!
We took a roadtrip from New Jersey to Philadelphia and I wish I would of made the visit sooner. We parked across the street for $25. I purchased my tickets online, I was told the price would be $2 more if I brought them at the prison. I advise going when the weather is not too hot. It was 86° degrees outside and you felt it during the tour. Go when the weather is a little cooler. We stayed for over 2 hours but could of stayed longer. The prison was amazing to see. We saw the famous Al Capone cell. Im thinking about visiting again during their Halloween event Terror behind the wall. Its a must see while visiting Philadelphia. Great historic prison to visit and photograph.
This place is special for so many reasons. A prison house which was closed down but is alive with so many memories. It can actually be a pretty haunting experience as you get to hear the stories of all the prisoners and the conditions in which they were incarcerated. There is an audio tour that helps you make sense of the place. There is also an exhibition about the contemporary prison situation. Even the building, that is the structure is imposing and haunting.
The penitentiary has a rich history. Definitely take a tour when you go to understand everything that youre looking at otherwise youll just be looking at a pile of rubble. A must visit when in Philadelphia
Awesome!! Only $16 ($12 for students with ID) for an amazing experience. Many cells are open and accessible to the public. Let’s not forget Al Capone’s fully restored cell! A must see if you’re in the area.
We visited in July 2011. Creepy and Awesome all at the same time! Yes, it is haunted. No doubt about that!
Very fun and eye opening! it was interesting walk through and listen to the audio tours.would recommend to for any newcomers to Philly
Awesome place to visit. The kids loved it also!
Amazing history - free street parking, so much to see. There is an audio tour but that only lasts around 45 minutes and isnt everything. So many cells are art exhibits. We spent 2.5 hours but you could spend more. Also, amazing staff, so helpful
Excellent place to visit! Staff is very friendly and helpful! The prices are really not bad to get in. Kids under 6 are free which is very fair. The kids also get to participate in a scavenger hunt and get to earn a prize at the end. All the staff members were very knowledgeable. It is a huge place tons of information so make sure you have enough time to go through it. I took my kids 4 and 6 and they loved it. It was a lot of walking and it is cold so make sure you have jacket if you go in the winter. Really is an Interesting place a lot of fun to visit!
Eastern State Penitentiary is an awesome place to check out any time of year, especially Halloween. I love the history of this prison complex and all the history it holds. I would definitely recommend any & everyone to visit the prison at least once, you wouldnt be left disappointed.
This place is incredible I have been here twice already and still discover something new also the staff that work here are great
A really cool historical museum to check out.Don’t have to worry that you didn’t hear the guide, cuz everyone will have once upon entry. Some spot is kinda scary that you might only seen that in a movie.Philly is not only famous for the cheese steak, this is a must visit place when visiting Philly. When I visited here, there wasn’t too many people so I can actually take my time and walk through those buildings.Visiting Eastern State Penitentiary can literally kill a whole day.
Hey must go open just about every single day also a great place to go for Halloween they put on a awesome show fivestars all the way
I definitely recommend anyone come here if they have the time. There is a great deal of history and with every admission you get an audio tour that you listen to as you walk through the Penitentiary. There is so much information and it is super interesting! The rooms and the halls are so astounding to look at and it is curious to think about how much prisons have changed and think about how life was here. They offer plenty of information on modern crime and prisons. You can even register to vote here which is pretty neat
The experience at the Eastern State Penitentiary is honestly a very education and enjoyable time. The architecture of the Penitentiary is worth the trip alone: with stone walls up to the 30 feet high, the prison looks more like a castle in the middle of North Philly. The interactive audio tour was extremely engaging, narrated by Steve Buscemi and was a great format to exploring and learning about the prisons history. The most surprising aspect was the Prisons Today exhibit at the end, where they examine the changes made to imprisonment in the United States in the 70s and 80s, leading to the current day state of mass incarceration. Definitely a worthwhile trip in Philly for anyone who likes museums or architecture.
I absolutely loved this self guided audio tour! This allowed us to take our time and really get to explore the building. It was really fascinating to learn about the history of the penitentiary and get to walk the same halls that prisoners did many years ago
Really interesting place to visit if youre interested in how the modern prison system developed, or want to see how prisoners used to spend their time. Its also very interesting for people who like to know about how the US prison population grew to what it is now, the biggest in the world! Furthermore its a great historical and societal site, and a must see for history buffs.
It really was freaky... but its worth visiting atleast once! Make sure to warm yourself.. Its colder inside...
Its a place full of history. I got shortness of breath while walking the hallways of the prison. Scary yet interesting. They offer guided tours and audio tours. Awesome experience! Definitely a must see!
So there are two ways to look at Eastern State Penitentiary, the 1st is as a museum. In this regard, the curators do a fantastic job by giving you a self guided audio tour. You understand how a larger prison like Eastern State was designed and at the end you see a staggering display on the current prison population which was incredibly eye opening. The second way to look at the facility is from an architectural point of view. If you are a photographer, you will love some of the incredible shots that can be taken here.My children and my wife enjoyed the tour. Be aware, there is no heat/AC so dress accordingly.
Creepy, spooky, atmospheric place ;) really cool attractions, Al Capone himself was serving his sentence there ! Highly recommend for Halloween and not only, not really sure if it’s a place for a whole family, but 12+ years old will find a lot of emotions by visiting.5 out of 5Enjoy
One of my favorite places to see while visiting Philadelphia! Very interesting history and has an ominous feel inside. A must see if you are visiting from out of town, or even a local that has never taken the time.
Eastern State has been on my list of places to visit for YEARS!! and the time finally came. Unfortunately they were doing a lot of construction so barriers were up in various places but what an awe inspiring place. Ive also been into the paranormal so that was another reason I wanted to visit. Wish we got there earlier so we could have walked around some more and done some more exploring. I did take some pics, but didnt seem to get anything out of the ordinary but the spirit box app (rapidly sweeps thru FM radio frequencies) did seem to catch some voices thought the 5 or 6 recordings I attempted (between 2pm and 4:30pm).I WILL revisit here, with a little more gear for the paranormal end of it.As for the visit itself, as stated previously, awe inspiring. Could only imagine it in its heyday. Wow, just.... Wow.HThey give you an audio player and headphones so u can do an audio guided tour but I and also my fiance decided after the first couple tracks of the tour to just go off on our own and explore.A lot of the cellblocks are closed off just passed the entrance due to years of decay and neglect but the other cell blocks really gave u chills at the thought of being stuck in one of those cells.Cant wait to see whats going to be different after construction is finished. (And for the paranormal enthusiasts, u know construction/renovations usually hightens activity.)Must see (again), in my book!!
This is by far one of the coolest places I have been crazy history with lots of cool stories. Its an interactive tour you get a head set while you walk around at your own pace. Al Capones cell was very cool and some areas are very creepy.
This piece of history and engineering marvel is amazing. Must see tour with reasonable costs. Absolutely loved it!!
Absolutely great! Awesome audio tour. Amazing building. Great for taking pictures.
We had a great time touring this penitentiary. Lots of information and a great learning experience. Some areas are in disrepair due to age but still very interesting. Id go again
Such an awesome place. It is hauntingly beautiful. Lots of great history and cool audio tour.
Great experience it was spooky but overall it was amazing learning the history of the penitentiary and its a good place to go with your kids. The service is amazing too and staff are very respectful to people. This place is a MUST SEE for the amazing history and staff!
Eastern State Penitentiary, also known as ESP, American prison in Philadelphia, It was build in the year 1828, and it was operational until 1971, It is one of the places to should visit in Philadelphia.
One of my favorite things I have seen as a tourist in Philadelphia. I would rank this above Alcatraz because it looks abandoned and the audio tour really provides interesting facts and stories. Take the normal guide but check out the random stories they offer. If possible check out their night event during Halloween!
Eastern State penitentiary has a lot of history a lot of notorious characters like Al Capone stayed here before they went to Alcatraz I highly recommend taking a tour and learning about the first prison in the United States youll be surprised what you find out
I highly recommend visiting Eastern State Penitentiary if you are visiting Philadelphia. This place is great for adults and children as well. For the kids, they have a scavenger hunt and get a prize at the end. You get to learn quite a lot about life was like at this old prison.
Loved our visit! So much history within those walls. I loved the recorded tour which allowed us to explore at our own pace and soak it all in. Highly recommend and look forward to bringing my other son.
This place was fascinating! They had wonderful tours, along with self-guided tours. I hope very much to be able to make it to the Halloween presentation at some point. There is a ton of History, and getting to see and touch all of these different pieces of History was incredible. They have many displays of animals and videos about procedures that are fascinating to watch as well. There are few places that are closed off to the public, which naturally nearly killed me with curiosity, but for the most part this is all open and informational to the public. Great trip. I would definitely recommend.
Go here, its well worth the price of admission! Unless youre going at specific time go early as it got a bit crowded as we were leaving around mid-day. The narrators on the audio tour were awesome.
This place is just amazing. The admission cost is reasonable and it includes an audio walking tour guide which makes the experience even more enjoyable. This place has tons of rich history and the staff are extremely knowledgeable in answering all the questions. I just wish I could walked through Cell Block 14!
Had a great time here. We did the guided tour which offered a couple hours worth of material if you take the time to listen to it all. It was very interesting and Im glad we stopped by here on our visit to Philly.
It was an interesting tourist site. I learned many things. The guided headphone tour(included in ticket) aspect is great, it gives you all the basic information in a step by step fashion. The tour is less than an hour. The staff is friendly and helpful. The facility has been maintained well. A must see in Philadelphia.
Worth visiting. Excellent museum. Great historical experience.
Omg! This is an amazing place to go to. You are guided by headset and the voice of Steve Buscemi. It’s amazing that people, albeit criminals lived in a place like that. You can spend hours looking at all the sights. We spent 1 1/2. We even saw Al Capone’s cell.
A place that tells the reality of history. My wife and I went here during our stay in Pennsylvania. The access to the entrance was easy. However, as soon as I entered the penitentiary, I started feeling horrified. It is probably because I sensed the long history of this place accommodating so many criminals. There were so many interesting places inside. I was particularly interested in the Jewish part. It helped me understand how the chaplains here helped the prisoners find hope. Definitely a recommended place for first-timers here.
Interesting destination with lots of local history. Al Capones cell is probably the most iconic part of the tour. Audio tour is included in the price of admission and takes the tour to the next level. The temporary exhibit was eye opening and the worldwide stats on crime were educational. Not as interesting as Alcatraz but wouldnt expect it to be.
Highly recommend visiting. Really got a sense of this prison where Al Capone did his time. Very informative displays and shows how prison was back pre-1970s.
Interesting tour, a bit creepy. It would be an excellent haunted house for Halloween. Audio presentation was excellent. Surprised building wasn’t torn down in 80’s & made into apartments or condos due to excellent location.
Very cool spot. The tour included audio that was jammed full of information. Not scary at all for kids. We didnt see one single ghost. Its not temperature controlled so layer up if you go in the winter!
Loved the audio tour. Something very different and creepy place.
Good audio tours. I guess anyone can spend 2hrs here and learn a lot about the Penitentiary. History is well preserved and audio recordings of earlier inmates makes it feel real.
Unquestionably my favorite attraction in Philly. Having grown up with family in Philly and having lived here for years, Ive seen everything the city has to offer. This is the only place I have come back to on a consistent basis. Ive brought dates here, family, friends from out of town, and Ive rented the space for video production. Ive been to ESP probably 15 times at this point, and it never gets old.Definitely pick up a device and do the audio tour. I prefer having the freedom to explore rather than doing the guided tours. Though you can do both.Expect to spend between 2-4 hours here, depending on how much you want to see.Fun fact: 10-20 years ago, they wanted to demolish the penitentiary and turn it into a generic shopping mall. Fortunately, people thought better, and it has been preserved. So take advantage of the fact that its still here. Other than exhibits and structural reinforcements to make it safe, the prison has been unmodified and left in the same state as it was while it was still in use. In some cells you can still see newspapers from the mid 1900s laying around.I cant recall the name, but theres an exhibit that showcases various preserved insects/wildlife from within the prison walls. Its a must see.
One of the best museums/ attractions Ive been to in a LONG time. Certainly in my top 3 in Philadelphia!Entry is $16 for an adult, but you get a headset for an audio guide (the main tour is narrated by Steve Buscemi!)If you want to explore and visit every entry on the map provided at the front desk, you can spend a whole day here learning about the history of ESP and the evolution of the US correctional system. I spent 4 - 5 hours walking around, listening to the different sections and taking photos.Cannot recommend enough!
I spent three hours here just doing the audio guided tour, taking pictures, and reading all the art installations descriptions. One of my favorite aspects was the information on both historical and contemporary forms of incarceration in the USA. Limited climate control may make this place a bit chilly as it becomes fall (I went at the end of September and needed a light sweater). There was a room for resting that was cooled and had micro USB phone chargers. The toilets were port-a-johns. Unfortunately, this historic building is not very accessible for folks with wheelchairs. There are plenty of benches to sit on and rest in.
Audio tour is so interesting i couldn’t make any pause. These cold days get a suitable coat. It’s freazing cold
It was my first time visiting and I had such a great time. All of the guides and employees were super friendly and educated about the prison. We went on a guide led tour and you have options of other tours included with your admission which isnt expensive at all. The gift shop is surprisingly cheaper than most as well. Also we were able to wander around and take pictures after the tour on our own and it was nice exploring by ourselves too. Love this place and the history! P. S. It really makes you think about the state of current prisons.
We went here for Halloween even it was amazing this place is haunted I witnessed as shadow figure on one of the photos which I took. Place is legendary especially with Al Capone doing his time there and getting the baseball games in the courtyard. Very Erie place perfect for ghost tours or just history buffs. Going inside is like taking a trip back in time. Check out our philly trip on YouTube under Erick and Ourbacks
So much fun! Customer service is superb. Im definitely coming back
Bang on one of the coolest and most educational tours we did in Philadelphia. Definitely get the headset and listen along to the audio recording. We were here over a year ago when I was travelling with my 15 year old and we had a flight delay of one day back to Toronto Ontario, so after four days of sightseeing we were then hunting for more to do. We hopped on the Phlash - hop on and hop off tour bus deal and without any plan simply hopped off at Eastern State Penitentiary when the guide mentioned about Al Capone once having been incarcerated there. My teenage daughter and I were both blown away by the history of penitentiary system in the USA and the4 architecture of this building is also stunning. You can easily imagine what the situation might have been like for prisoners years ago before they closed. Such a worthy use of our time - we were ecstatic that we had the chance to visit.
Incredible history, dress warmly for this time of year. Well preserved and the presentation was very thought provoking.
We got there 40min before closing we enjoyed the tour but is not enough time, give your self at least 1 hour and a half to get through almost everything. Amazing historic place, it has a really creepy ambient. Its really worth it if you are in Philadelphia. A must see.
My daughter requested to go. She loves places that are potentially haunted. Great museum for the whole family. We did the audio tour. I highly recommend that. Very interesting stories about the construction of the prison to the lives of some of the inmates and guards. We spent several hours. To take it all in go through it slowly. There is no air conditioning in the prison. One room that provides facts about prisons today does have air conditioning. My daughter took a photo of Al Capones cell and if you are a believer.. then you will be able to see his face on the wall.
Best place to go for Halloween. I actually didn’t even know it was open except as an attraction to scare you.
If you have about an hour or two while in Philly, make ESP a part of your day. It closed down for good in the ‘70’s but thankfully it was mostly restored as a historical spot.Great self guided audio tour narrated by Steve Buscemi, former guards and inmates.A must see, when in Philly.
It was intense being inside this two hundred year old prison. I was fascinated, loved the spell-binding tour and relieved when we got outside. I heard the prison puts on a great Halloween event. I bet it’s spectacular.
Incredibly interesting! The ruins of this building allow you to envision what the inmates and guards lived. Everyone who worked within the park was very helpful and informative. There are many areas off limits for safety purposes, but more areas are opened than closed. Loved it!
Very very interesting place. 1 day is not enough to learn everything there.Better take tour, bc hard to understand what exactly was in particular cell.We spent there few hours and i think that learn 0.001% about whole historical moments.Another interesting thing, that there are researches and metrics about crime and gangs, that we have today.Definitely will come back, and recommend everybody who going to Philadelphia for tourist tour
Defenitively worth it. Great price for the experience. Lots of cool information and cells to see. The jail is large and the tour awesome since you get your own headset and go at your own pace. It is nicely set up along with the map they gave. Highly recommend going.
Amazing haunted house! I love it here every time I come here.. lines are super long but a lot of fun if you are a fan of Halloween & haunted houses.. parking is very expensive nearby & street parking is nearly impossible to find!
