Its a cool piece of history. Tough to get a decent photo as it is surrounded by a tall fence. The hand signal instructions for ice are visible. Only suitable for a drive by or a 10 minute close look.
A glimpse into what life was like for Floridians before people had home refrigeration and air conditioning. The ice house would sell blocks of ice to locals back in the 30s. The purchase was made through hand gestures, holding up fingers to suggest how much ice you wished to purchase. The hand signals are engraved into the stucco wall above the door. Unfortunately, there appears to be some deterioration to this building and it is fenced off with a chain link fence. Still worth a visit
I love this place! I drive by almost daily and it never gets old seeing it. I was really upset one day when someone graffitied it, but it was repaired quickly!
Cool to see this old original ice house, historical site
