The family enjoyed it! Too bad the museum was closed because of covid. Open it up! Masks are required anyways!
Uncrowded on Tuesday morning. Shady parking. Nice people. Cost 8 bucks a piece. There is a restriction, nobody under 44 in can climb up the stairs. Also, no flip flops. The stairs are steep spiral. 166 of them, but a fun climb. I didnt get her name, but the volunteer at the top was great. You can really see a lot of the beach and NAS. A good visit.
My bride and I went to the museum after watching the Blue Angels. Steps up to the top were incredible. People going up had to move towards inside and coming down from the top had right of way and could hug the walls. I believe the lighthouse tower walls are almost 3 feet thick, that is incredible. Each 20 feet or so up there was a window with a small landing. The light is still functional with all original parts and gears working. View from top is incredible.
Highly recommended. Staff are friendly and welcoming.
It was very pretty. Although, I would call ahead and see when the Blue Angels are practicing. The staff there told us you can see them from the top which would have been much cooler! Also, I regret not getting on their mugs at the gift shop :(
Great place to go while in Pensacola. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Safety is also a main priority there. Make sure you wear shoes with a backing. I certainly recommend tennis shoes because of the steep steps. It took us about 30 minutes to climb to the top, take a few pictures, embrace the view, catch our breath, and go back down. The museum took about 20-30 minutes. Your time spent is based on you and the size and interest of your group. There is also a small play area. I will certainly be going back with my family next time. The price I believe was $4.00 for military (active duty member, retiree, or veteran) and $7.00 for all others. So to clarify, if you are AD and you bring your dependents, you will pay for one AD entry and $7.00 for each dependent. Lastly, if you don’t plan to climb the lighthouse but want to enter you still have to pay the entry fee to go beyond the gift store. There are places for you to have a seat while you wait on the other side.
Cant believe I have never been here before!! Definitely worth a trip. The staff is super helpful & friendly.
Light houses within the navy base interesting to look at from the outside. The admission charge was very hefty something like $8 per person so we passed on actually going into the lighthouse. It is worth stopping out especially if youre going to the flight museum on base which is definitely worth it.
What a fun place.. Totally enjoyed our visit
Lil pricey to climb some stairs. Cool view. No discounts unless youre Coast Guard. Cute lil gift shop, stuff I purchased there below.
We see this epic lighthouse every time we fly and it never gets old! Love the history surrounding it and the different types that were there and what happened to them. We’ve also climbed all the steps too! Highly recommend coming to see this great piece of history and the other historical sites located next door!
I have a major fascination with climbing every lighthouse I can and this one was amazing! I had to climb barefoot as they do not allow strapless sandals or flip flops to climb. Made it a little more exciting!
Loved it!!! 176 steps up. Leg day done. Beautiful views
Cost of admission was $7 per adult, $4 per kid and $4 if youre military. Well worth it! We all enjoyed the museum portion of the place and two out of four of us were able to make it to the top of the lighthouse. Those that didnt were an 8 year old and my mom who is not medically cleared for strenuous activity. The climb is worth the view, even in inclement weather. The gift shop was fun and everyone that worked or volunteered in the lighthouse and gift shop were eager to share knowledge. Well be back!
177 steps up! Pretty scary for anyone just because there is a rail on one side and if people are coming down youve got to inch your way holding a step until they pass. Either way its a gorgeous view! Too windy up to stand being afraid of heights. The little musuem was really neat with all the artifacts collected. We ventured a little on base and saw the beach as well. Would def go back!
Visited while I was in Florida. Quite a nice lighthouse on the military base.
I drove over after buying the park pass. Its closed unless you are military. So kind of a bummer for security reasons you cant check out a really old lighthouse. Also, You can change your google listing to closed its pretty simple.
Beautiful place and a lot of information here..so nice to spend time with friend and family..
This lighthouse is beautiful. Amazing view. Close to many other historical sites to visit and the Naval Air Museum. A great way to spend a weekend in Pensacola.
Neat historical site, most everything in the lighthouse is authentic and original, except the modern lightbulbs! The 177 steps up is a great workout made even tougher with the mandatory Covid facemask. The staff is very friendly and informed about the history. Great view of the Gulf as well as runway area of NAS.
SOOOOO beautiful to see! Id put six stars on the review if I could. Great tour and an amazing view.
Grounds were pristine and Dave the lighthouse keeper was full of knowledge. I made it to the top and could only wish it wasnt raining to enjoy the view!
If you like lighthouses, this is a nice one with a good crew of both the beach in one side, and the NAS Pensacola flight line on the other. When the Blue Angels are in town, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the planes parked or even flying in the area. The lighthouse grounds have a couple of buildings, one of which has several rooms to explore, but overall the grounds are pretty simple
This place is amazing! The woman at the top of the lighthouse was super sweet and had alot of knowledge about the history of Pensacola and was able to point out different landmarks. A really cool experience all around!
Beautiful views of the Pensacola area. Wouldve been an amazing spot to watch the Blue Angels practice!
This is a Pensacola must visit. The 177 steps were totally worth it. The museum was great and one of its kind. There is no need to worry about it being expensive to visit since the admission for adults for $7 which gives you access to the lighthouse and museum. Make sure you bring comfortable tennis shoes and a pair of sandles to visit the bay right across the street. You will have an amazing view.
Great place to visit! Its 177 steps to the top but worth the view and gorgeous breeze when you get there. Really nice museum and gift shop too. My six year old had no problems going to the top and back down. There is a height requirement and you cant bring and kind of purse or bag for safety reasons.
Beautiful lighthouse with amazing views. Suggest you bring water, a rag for sweat, closed toed shoes or you will have to climb barefoot. When you get to the top, ask the volunteer why they enjoy helping the lighthouse and whats their favorite part about it. There are rumors that its haunted so ask different staff members their thoughts.
Amazing experience! So much to see. The kids (big and small) had a great time... I love learning this way. It makes it fun...
Very impressive!!
Beautiful grounds. All is well taken care of. We really enjoyed this one!
A great display of the history of the lighthouse. It’s affordable to get in and they have a plethora of things to look at and read. It’s a great experience to be able to climb to the top and take a view from that high up. Be sure to wear socks and closed toe shoes. No flip flops. And be ready to make the climbs great experience!
Lots of history and great view. Definitely go on a clear day to get the full experience. Make sure you wear shoes with backs or you have to go barefoot! Dont want to trip and fall down those stairs.
Lots of history here. It is a LOT of stairs. My oldest son and I only got about 1/3 up. My 2 youngest and hubby did them ALL......177. My daughters legs were visibly shaking when they got down. If there is lightening anywhere close they close it. Then they send someone up to see if its all clear to reopen. They take small donations to help restore and they are trying to add on to make it where handicapped can also enjoy, I think via VR.
Really really liked it. We had a blast!
Really neat lighthouse! They charge $7 to go up the 177 stairs so it’s not too bad in the price. Very friendly staff and the grounds were very clean. I will be coming back for sure.
The climb is challenging. Do not go with flip flops or youll have to climb barefoot. There is a $7 admit fee for adults. The view is beautiful.
Whew the walk up those steps will get to you but the view from the top is worth it. Beautiful! Really enjoyed the museum also. Bonus seeing Blue Angels while we were here on vacation.
Very cool experience and well worth the admission.
The 170+ steps are well worth the climb to the top. Dont pass up the women who kept the light exhibit. Very neat! Great views and great staff.
This place is definitely a must-see for everyone at least once. There are many little lessons to learn about boats. They teach you how to tie knots, how to navigate to shore from a boat, and explains how lighthouses work! Great for kids.Of course, the main attraction is the light house itself. It consists of 177 stairs and gives you a beautiful view of the base, airfield, and the beaches. Only downfall is it can be difficult for people with bad knees.Would highly recommend everyone to come here at least once, and tie it with the museum for a full day of fun!
Well maintained and just beautiful. 15 stories high or 177 steps to the top. Totally worth the climb. Breathtaking view. Friendly staff.
This place wasnt too bad to climb and it was very calming at the top to see the ocean like that. Pretty cool.
The lighthouse is an icon in the Pensacola area. The visit is on the Naval Air Station. If you are downtown, be prepared to drive some 13 miles to get to the west gate and bring your photo ID. There is a nice museum about the building and operation of the lighthouse (longest running in the US) and still in use. There is a charge for admission. You can get a great view of the area by climbing the 177 steps to the observation deck via spiral staircase.
Fun area to walk around. Climbing the lighthouse must be 48. Stairs are rather taxing due to the height and angle. Great views from the top of the lighthouse, plus you get a chance to see the actual working light mechanism spinning. Museum was interesting, and some other areas around the grounds, like the 2 holer which my son was fascinated with.
This was a interesting place to visit. The museum attached to the lighthouse was very informative. I would recommend going to see this historic landmark!
Beautiful, historical. Friendly staff!!! They waited for us to get in before closing & let us buy souvenirs!!! Fabulous!
Beautiful working lighthouse with awesome historical museum.
Not a big deal but kinda cool and oldsy like in the movies but. We didn’t go to the top but I bet the view must be great being so close to the shore and all.
Absolutely beautiful lighthouse the view was awesome!
177 steps to the top of this lighthouse ~ Great view once you get to the top
Great place to visit. Its quite a hike up all the steps, but it worth the views. And there are many areas on the way up and down, to take a breather. But no bags of any kind are allowed, nor can you wear flip flops.
Loved. If you can handle 177 steps must climb to the top
Great view and interesting. You can climb the stairs of the lighthouse. Opted not to do the climb. Beach behind with view of Fort Pickens and Fort McCree.
This place has very pretty views and an interesting museum. The lighthouse is hollow and you take a spiral staircase all the way up to the top and then you can look out over the naval base, the Pensacola Bay, and the intercoastal waterway.
A very quiet place with great history. The views from atop the light house are incredible. There are spots along the way up to step aside and rest. There are a bunch of great things to read and learn about.
A visit in Pensacola is not complete without dropping by here. Nice view on the top. Nice beaches around. Perfect place to kayak or paddle board. Staff are friendly too.
Neat experience and the climb is worth it. It wasn’t extremely crowded on the climb but I can imagine it being difficult if you are constantly waiting for others to pass. Historic buildings were very well maintained and educational.
Definitely worth the walk up the steps! Could be a few dollars less expensive, but it wasnt a rip-off. I would have liked a bit more signage about the history, or maybe people around to explain things in the house. But we were very glad we went!
Fun climb with a beautiful view. Friendly and informative workers.
Very affordable place to visit and had a gift shop. Got a brass and gold lighthouse tree ornament
Very well maintained lighthouse. Make sure you are in good physical condition, as there are 177 steps up a steep, spiral staircase. The view from the top is breathtaking; you can see Pensacola, Mobile, and more from the top. Definitely worth a trip.
Nice lighthouse and museum. Lots of climbing, be prepared.
What a lovely museum! There is some interactions you can do like trying or making different kinds of knots at the stations thats outside. Inside you can go upstairs to view different exhibits and then downstairs and also the basement. After touring the museum its time to go outside around the side and climb 177 stairs. I was terrified of climbing the spiral lighthouse. I dont like heights. I wanted to go back down but I made it to the top. The view is breathtaking once you make it to the top you can walk on the outside. I made sure to hold on to the railing I really didnt think I was going to go out the door at the top. The volunteer was nice. The lighthouse is still used by the coast guard.
177 steps make sure you ask yourself am I sure I want to do this? Then make yourself. The view is amazing.
This was an awesome experience! The climb up to the top was a workout, but once at the top the view was like nothing else. We paid for the Blue Angels show practice tour, and it was worth it 100 percent! Watching their show from the 151 foot tall lighthouse was great and an experience I will never forget.
Great view from the top. Nice to see things like this still around. I dont think it should cost $7 to climb some steps though. Thats outrageous. I get that there is up keep and maintenance cost. But $7 is a bit much.
I thought it was beautiful. It started raining soon as we walked up and thunder clapped. If there is a lightning strike within 3 miles they close it to foot traffic. If it hadnt been late in the day we would have just waited out the storm. Only 4 stars because I havent seen enough to go 5. Glad they were concerned for our safety, Well be back looking for that last star ☆
Absolutely fantastic!! The guides were a lot of fun to listen to and it was definitely a challenge to get to the top but so worth it. I hope to go back again someday.
Very nice and educational. Did the lighthouse stairs and was very satisfied I accomplished it after my heart attack.
177 steps to the top. And then back down. Make sure to wear tennis shoes when you visit or you are going to tote your shoes. The view from the top is breathtaking.
Great Lighthouse museum! Need to be physically fit to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse, but the view is awesome.
The museum was so nice, and the lighthouse (177 steps) was amazing. The steps are so pretty.I was surprised to find Mike the volunteer tour guide at the top. The lighthouse still works to guide boats and ships today.
Beautiful Lighthouse! I am little scared of heights, but I went up and the view is definitely worth it! It might seem like it’s not that high, but it will definitely have you sweating...177 steps. There is also a little museum at the lower part of the building.Currently, you will not be able to get there unless you have proper DOD identification.Staff is very friendly.
Loved the light house, its a long walk up but the view was amazing.
Very well kept grounds and buildings. Couldnt go up inside lighthouse for the view due to approaching storm-- but the views must be amazing! Note that this site is located inside the same military base as the Naval Aviation Museum (which is a must see) so dont be confused when your GPS leads you to the bases entrance.
Beautiful views. The angels were flying too that day.
Very beautiful restoration of the lighthouse with a nice little history display inside as well (just a short distance from the Naval Air Museum). There is an entrance fee.Note you can go up the lighthouse tower via narrow stairs (lots of stairs), but given the layout, Id not recommend this for folks that have difficulty with their knees at all.
Had a great time. Went in January but weather held out for us. Wife had issues with see thru steps as she is very afraid of heights, but still made it up and down the 177 steps . Loved all the history and educational opportunities...
Such a rich history, with incredible views.
A great view... and workout!
Been to many light houses. This is standard fare. Gentleman at top was a great talk.Keep up the work. Appreciation to you all.
The climb to the top was a little nerve wracking. When they say hold on to the railing, that is a direction one will easily comply with. The view at the top was beautiful and worth the trek. We even had the Blue Angels practicing formations which made it even better.
Loved the climb. View from the top was fabulous. Great family experience.
This walk up is not for the weak, but the view is indescribable! So glad we went.
Awesome view once you get up the semi scary steps.
Love this place! Of course I’m partial to light houses and find them special in the first place! For anyone who loves lighthouses this one doesn’t disappoint and is a real beauty where you’ll find yourself wishing you could live there! Nicely maintained by people who care with information available about the grounds and lighthouse making for a fun visit!
Nice, relaxed presentation of an important historic facility that is still in use today!
Nice place to tour. Lots of steps, 177 to be exact and they are numbered with brass plates.
If you want a wonderful view make it to the top the also have a selfie stand in front of the lighthouse
This is such an awesome place! Loved seeing the lighthouse even though I could not make it to the top that day thanks to my back! Looking forward to going back soon!!
Beautiful lighthouse and well worth the visit. Make sure you dont wear flip flops if you plan on climbing the tower. You must have shoes that have a back unless you are ok climbing it barefoot. The veiw from the top is beautiful. Also loved the meuseum. Definitely a must visit for anyone who loves lighthouses or history!
Fantastic experience! Saw the Blue Angels practicing while we were there.
First Lighthouse Ive been to. But it was very fun. Lots of information about the familys that have lived there and about the lighthouse itself. Also some hands on activities for learning knot tying and related stuff.
Beautiful place to visit! Google maps wont take you to the right entrance since it is on a military base, so you do have to do some navigation yourself. The workers are friendly and genuinely love visitors!
Beautiful and alot of history. Make sure not to wear flip flops for you will have to walk up the light house barefoot. The view is breath taking and the staff is very kind. Fun for families there is a fee to pay before you walk the light house. The fee helps to maintain the muesum and light house.
