The area is so unique that I visit it once a year. Giant sand dunes combined with groves of juniper evergreens seems paradoxical. But it turns out to be a perfect habitat. The larger dunes complex is fully surrounded by farms making access limited. Most of the southern portion is an ORV paradise. The upper section is a protected wilderness accessible only on foot.

I personally love hiking and the place was great to get away from crowds, but need to have map of trailhead for visitors and need a better access to the area

Tried to go here. The directions google gave led us to a cow farm in the middle of no where with the same name. No overnight camping like we were told. Didnt see any sandy area to ride an atv at either. Just day hiking allowed from how the sign reads, and lots of brush and cows. Maybe we were taken to the wrong spot, i do not know.

Its difficult to get to the trail head as its only accessible through the ORV park. Be warned there are no trails only giant crickets and miles of sagebrush and juniper trees. The wilderness area offers sweeping panoramic views of the dunes surrounded by dramatic basalt ridges. Worth checking out if your already in the ORV park but not sure if its worth a special trip to see.

This wilderness is a great place to get lost. Even though you are close to town at dusk climb up on a dune and find out how small we really are.Getting there: It is a long, slow, bouncy drive through the ORV park. Towards the end you need to make a choice between getting close to the trailhead (opening in the gate) or close enough. It gets soft and the risk of being stuck in the sand becomes very high. The wilderness: By in large the ORV guys have respected the boundary and not rode past or through the fence. Some times you can see a track or two but not many. The ORV park boarders it and at times you can hear that traffic. There are no trails. Lots of sand and clumps of Juniper. That is your shade. There is no water...bring lots, it gets very hot. You get to wander around and really it is a beautiful place. Some small wildlife and millions of Morman Crickets.

One of the few off road areas you can ride. Its almost all sand dunes and trails. A little bit of beginner friendly trails in smith canyon.Note - Flags on your rig are required and yes the county sheriff does patrol it

Spent a lot of my childhood here, had a lot of fun. Cant say we ever harmed the sand or juniper. Yall that just vote Democrat all the way down the block are to blame for our state being taken over by the federal govt our land being stolen from us.
