The theater was gorgeous. And there is an organ player who came out before the show and played some of the music from the movie. It was so memorable. We had the best time. We were even in the balcony and It didnt even matter the sound and picture was really great. I would have loved to go see MILK there too. Any movie for that matter would be really great in there.
I cant really complain about about a movie theater where the ticket to watch a (or more) movie cost only $2.50-3.50, and that offers 2 tickets, 2 pop corns, 2 drinks for only $10 (on Wednesdays). So Im not going to. Its just an old second run theater. From the projection system to the seats, from the hallways to the restrooms, everything yields just that. Again, if you want premium picture and sound quality for a decent price, you go to AMC on Tuesdays. Anyway, the only little complaint I have about this theater is that the movie is cropped out of the original footage. The screen is also faced slightly to the left, that was a bit strange to me. Again, none of those matter because its dirt cheap.
Best movie theater Ive ever been to. Super clean, helpful employees, giant screen, and comfy, reserved seating. Absolutely no reason to visit any other cinema.
I went to see Once Upon A Time In Hollywood with my aunt there for an insanely cheap price of 2 tickets for $5. It is a terrific place to screen movies if you do not need to see a movie immediately after it has been released. Also, the snacks and drinks selling at this movie theater are also cheaper than usual, yet the ambience of this place is so nice, since it has the characteristics of an old-fashioned movie theater.
Truly a landmark. Its not a super nice, fancy place, but the staff is nice, the theater is clean, and the movies are priced incredibly low. I remember it from my days in high school many years ago and now I still come back because its a great value.
Great prices for tickets and food. it was clean so thats a plus. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because there was a last minute movie change and we were not informed. We purchased our tickets via Atom a on Sunday and we did not find out about the change until we were sitting down. Overall good experience.
You can’t beat these prices, and it’s kept nice and clean.. and the staff are really friendly. Me and by boyfriend love coming here, great movies always showing
I really like the Wednesday deal. We got our tickets, popcorn and a drink each for only $10. Wow. The staff was friendly. The bathrooms are spotless and well stocked. Its a very homestyle, old school movie theater. We will be definitely coming back.
Great lil gem! When I say inexpensive, I mean INEXPENSIVE! Old School seating in a small intimate setting! Sunday 3:30pm Show $2.50 per ticket! Yes Two Dollars and Fifty Cent for one ticket! Popcorn, soda pretzels candy all there! Good just out of the Main Theater movies, I saw Black & Blue! A must see, since this isnt a Movie Review, Ill stop here, however given The Academy had it so quick speaks volumes of their Offering! Lets keep The Regal Academy Theater in Pasadena for the next 75 years! 5 Stars!!!
Super nice staff, and you can not beat the price! Popcorn is tasty and tender and truly fresh. I love this place!
Love this place. Cant beat the price and the popcorn if one of my faves. The Staff is so friendly. Just feels very nostalgic. love it that old hollywood feeling.
$2.5 before 6pm and $3.5 after, super cheap for a cinema. It is not the highest quality cinema, but its still really good. Perfect if you are just looking for a casual movie night.Wednesday is $10 for two tickets, sodas and popcorn if you go 6pm or later, that is the cheapest I have ever seen.
Cant beat $3.50 movie tickets...who cares theres no waiter service and that the seats dont recline?.Perfect for a family on a budget. They still have $2.50 matinees and parking in the back lot is free after 9ish pmRecommended.
Prices within the limits of what should be now days. The theatre is starting a new thing on Tuesdays. Called flashback Tuesdays and theyre showing some really good old movies, a number of which Ive never seen on a big screen.
Awesome prices great staff! I love this place I come here with my family and they love it too! I of course the movies are second run but I don’t mind because I use ally miss movies in theatres. I just wish that they had a few more Kids movies. Please give it good review!
You cant beat this place for value. The place is kept clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and you CANNOT beat the prices. Just took the family to see Secret Life of Pets 2, still playing in other theaters, and spent $10 total for four tickets (yes, $2.50 per person) on a Saturday afternoon. And you wont be gouged at the concessions either. I mean, it is movie pricing on the food, but reasonable movie pricing.5 stars.
That is my family and I go to place when we want to watch a movie. Nice people great prices . Some people cant pay for everything so, it is cool to just pay so little so then ur able to buy the candy and the food and drinks. Good theater.
Good movies at a great price. $3.50 for evening, and $2.50 before 6 pm. What a deal!!! Very clean and good sounds and screen.
Movie for $3.50. Thats less expensive than renting a streaming movie. Two people with some snacks for less than $20. Lets help this business thrive.
Its nice to be able to see a movie without breaking the bank. Its not the nicest place, but definitely worth a visit for 2 hours of entertainment. Staff is decent, concession prices are reasonable. I prefer this place over spending over 100 dollars in one visit.
Great theater but a little dirty. I love flashback tuesdays!
Inexpensive, but floor was concrete and could hear everyone in theater really easily.
Low budget theater is great for older movies and taking lots of kids for next to nothing. 4 kids, one adult, all of us a kid meal each, and 3 hotdogs for only $50~ cant beat that. The seats arent extravagant, but the air conditioner works wonderfully and most of the seats dont have a horrible view. This is my go to place when we want to not be home. Beware the top theater has a few seats in the back that should be replaced. Also, the employees are very friendly and smiling
I love how affordable it is. Some theaters charge like $20 for a single ticket. So it’s nice to have a place where it’s like $3 even if the movies have been out for a while.
Dirty and run down. Felt weird in there... Carpet is FILTHY. Items at the concession stand are not comparable to the ticket price. We sadly will not be returning. Absolutely GROSS place. Clean it up please!!
Old time movie theatre at an unbelievable price. A true Pasadena treasure. Seats are a little compromising but staff were friendly and snack bargains galore. Nice time.
There are some really great prices in this Regency Theater. I didnt expect the tickets to be so cheap and the hot dog prices were equally as surprising. The workers here were also very friendly. If this place had better chairs, this would get 5 stars.
A great little theater. Screens arent bad for paying $2.50-$3.50 for a movie. Great place to catch a movie you missed a few weeks before.
Nice place, good movie experience, free 2 hour parking only 1 block away
Nice little theater. Cheap tickets and the have pretty good deals on Wednesday. The only complaint is being able to slightly hear the other movies playing in the theater I was in, but you cant beat the ticket price which was like $3.
This is one of the oldest theaters in Pasadena. They do their best to accommodate those who are in WHEELCHAIRS. When ever I can I check to see if the action movies is on the first floor.
Passed by this place for what seems like decades, thought Id finally check it out. For a place that has discount prices on older titles, it aint bad. Yes, its old school and a bit of a humble dive relative to the megaplexes, but its clean and the service is very friendly and welcoming. Seats are also the older style and the sound aint gonna knock your socks off, but $2.50 before 6pm and $3.50 after, plus concessions are way cheaper than the big theaters, how do you beat that? Im in my mid-40s and this theater reminds me of all the smaller theaters that used to be in almost every neighborhood in LA when I was a little kid. Anyhow, movies these days have such a quick turnaround to streaming/home video, so the titles are actually still pretty new. If I have a choice Id rather go to theaters like Regency Academy Cinemas than stream the flick at home for up to 5 times as much. Only issue I can find is maybe parking. I had time to kill so I parked in a Pasadena city public parking lot and took a nice long walk on a perfect summer day.
Great spot for a movie, cheap tickets, good movie food and a nice place to go to with friends and family.
I went to the snack bar and I bought some snacks. I was having a hard time carry my stuff with me. One of the employees of the theater help me. The clientele were well mannered in the theater.
I spent less than 20 bucks for 4 hotdogs 1 large soda and a movie. Staff was great theatre small and seats dated but hell less than 20bucks
Cute little dicount theater. People were super nice! They do bag checks though. It was one of the rare times all i had was water in there.
Great seating prices as well Top/CurrentMovie selections
Somewhat a Small theater but really clean and affordable!! Every time Ive gone Ive payed $2.50 for ticket. If you trying to hit the theaters but are on a budget this is your spot
Great value for the price, very friendly staff and awesome popcorn!
Id like the prices of this theater and the popcorn is always really good.
I would give it five stars if I get free parking like they use to. Now they charge 3 dollars even if you go to the theater .
Fun locale to pop in to enjoy a past flick that you missed for a few bucks. I tagged along to see the fun scary shark movie ... 47 METERS.
Cant beat the price. Staff always friendly and courteous.
For the price its great. I love this theater since its around where I live. You cant argue with prices. You can see all the movies that left major theaters. $1 hot dogs and good prices on food deals compared to regular theaters. The only thing I do dislike is that whenever you go watch PG-13 movies and under. There is usually someone who brings their infant/toddler and lets them scream/cry throughout the movie. So you might end up having to REWATCH it.
Awsome place to watch a movie. And staff very friendly.
THE CITY OF PASADENA IS 5 STAR BY ITS SELF ALONE THE LOCATION ACADEMY THEATER IS JUST SPECIAL CONDIMENTS ON A GREAT MEAL.AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT LIKE LETS MAKEA DEAL AWIN WIN ON BOTH ENDS.
Old theater with semi-newer (2nd run) movies at low prices. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours catching a film you might have missed the 1st time out.
Great price. Seats are old & uncomfortable though.
Is these theater open already??
Its a low-budget great time, the great movie selection, and relaxed environment make this a really good option for a date or boys night out.
Great little theater cheap price for older movies
Wednesday Date special $10.-2 tickets 2 drinks 2 popcornIts a run down but totally worth it
No, its not the Arclight, but at 1/6 the price, this place is great! Had A GREAT afternoon here with my family. ALL FOUR of us got in for 2/3 the price of one ticket at the first run theaters. The experience was surely helped by an enjoyable movie wed never seen before. The popcorn was great, too. Sure, the carpet is worn, the seats are weathered, and theres no stadium seating. But the staff is very friendly, and the facility is clean. And did I mention the ticket prices?! Cant recommend this place highly enough.
Free Easy parking on street, very nice staff, very clean, and $3.50 WOW
Absolutely cannot beat the prices. Staff are always great, popcorn is solid, seats are nothing fancy but perfectly comfortable.
LOVE IT. Movie for two, two popcorns and drinks for 10 bucks total. Cant beat it. Sure the movies are off main screens, but barely. Totally worth waiting for.
Very dingy and odd theater layouts. I would still go through. Price is good.
Not the best but its fine for the bucks.
Very good pricing.Highly recommend!
Friendly staff. Good movies. No hassle about backpacks except they might briefly check it. Great for those of us die hard backpack carriers. Also, you can dress your popcorn with several flavors! Would give 5 stars if had mirrors in restrooms and if theaters were deep cleaned. Can smell mold in some areas (theatre #3). Overall, a good place for cheaper movie outing.
This place is clean and has great prices. The staff Is nice and the food is good.
Friendly staff and reasonable price. I will definitely be coming back.
Man, we had a great time here. You cant beat $5 for two people before 6 oclock. So the movies are older releases, no big deal. Gotta love the free street parking in the area as well.
Pros:-This theater has the best prices for Movies!-The concession stand is also better priced than the local theaters.-Movies are decent quality.Cons:-Considering how many people still attend this theater, you would think theyd put new carpet or at least shampoo the seats and carpet.-They only show movies that have left the competing theaters.-On cold days, the theaters on the ground level are freeeeeeeezing.
Cheap prices, fairly clean, the snacks are standard, but thats to be expected. Sometimes you can hear the noises from the theater next to yours, but theyre muffled enough. Pretty nice place to catch movies that arent in theaters anymore and they have special showings for certain movies on Tuesdays so thats fun.
Its great way to save and see movies I love this spot.
The best plus about this place is admission is really really! Cheap here! Like less than 4 dollars! From $2.50-$3.50 depending on the time of day before or after 6pm you watch a movie. They still sell $1.50 hot dogs but they need to be asked for or requested because its not on their menu. Was about $10.30 at concession stand for 1 Medium coke with a sour patch candy and 1 hot dog. But they have $10 deals with-2 popcorns with 2 sodas deals. The visual movie quality I have no complaints; the seats and audio quality well.... its not the greatest, but we get what we pay for. Not really complainting here either just clarifying. What I like about this place is the movies are more than affordable here and if you are on the late train for a movie that has been out for a while you can still catch it here. This is not a place where youd want to impress your date with an ultimate movie experience. Meaning if she gets ticked off by slightest hint that maybe youre being a cheapskate; then you might wanna go by and play it safe by taking yo high maintence girl elsewhere!
Love the cheap tickets. I hate paying $10+ for a movie ticket. I dont mind waiting to watch here. Not the fanciest theater, but tickets are so reasonable you kinda dont care. Sometimes audio/visual quality could be better, but again you get what you pay for. Their concession stand is nice and they have a good variety of snacks. Wednesdays are the best night to visit. Parking can also be a pain, so give yourself enough time before the show.
It has character with two stairways and marble in their upstairs bedroom. Friendly and helpful staff. They have returned to limited free parking in the back and time limit Street parking. Great price to catch that movie you may have missed.
It was a great experience going there nice people that work there Ill go again with my family
If you long for the days of sticky floors, smaller rigid chairs and free for all seating, this is the spot. Great nostalgic feeling. Great to see people sit in the very front and pay the consequence of showing up late
First timers! Didnt know what to expect at first because didnt see a lot of people compared to other theaters but I enjoyed the movie, friendly staff and clean location. The best part is tickets were $3.50 after 6pm.
Cool little place. Prices are great. Old school.
Great price for movies and concession goodies!
Great theater and EZ on the budget. A delight.
Im grateful we have this theater in Pasadena. Its great to be able to catch movies here when theyve already disappeared from 1st run theaters. Its also good to get a bargain sometimes. Some theaters have quirky layouts, and some seats are in bad shape, but Ive generally been able to get a decent seat, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff is friendly.
One of the best deals in So Cal!
Old small theater... Movies are not new releases here... these novies are usually a month or more after movies have been released. Worst part is one has to look up at the screen. I took my 2 boys to see POKÉMON. For the price of admission, its a great deal!
Great place for movies and the staff is helpful and available
You get what you pay for. The $2 entrance fee (before 6pm, I believe) and $1.50 hotdogs are great for the budget-minded and those who dont mind seeing films weeks, months after their first run in regular, upscale theaters. Its air-conditioned, and not a bad way to spend a few hot summer hours. The Academy has become a Pasadena institution. (I actually remember when it was a single-screen theater!) Enjoy.
It is what it is. Drove all the way from Koreatown to catch a flick. Large popcorn offers one refill which is great if you’re in a group. Overall good place to watch non blockbuster films.
You can come her and see movies at a cheap price but know that youre also going to have to deal with grimy seats that have never been cleaned. And carpet that isnt really black. The bathrooms were pretty clean though. Last time the wrong movie was playing. Came to see Jurassic world but a horror film was on instead. Thats happened to us twice. Weve been coming here for years but last night for Infinity war it felt so gross. Like bugs were crawling all over me. I dont think well be back.
Not bad entrance price never crowded big parking lot.
Best cheap seats in town. $1.50 hot dogs. Whats not to like?
Love it, is not a 5star place but the tickets are cheap and You get what You paid for..
This place is a really cool second run theatre. I had missed out on seeing Infinity Wars at my local theatre, and just last week this one came up as showing it. Tickets are so cheap! Was $3.50 per person. Very reasonable concession stand prices, and the popcorn tastes fresh- a BIG difference from the usual I get at the high priced places. Very quaint place, reminds me of theaters from my childhood. Awesome sound system too.
As movie theatres go, it is not as opulent as El Capitan and doesnt run the latest movies; but it is inexpensive and you can watch month old movies. The positives of this theatre are its inexpensive movie tickets: under $3 before 3pm and $3.50 thereafter; plus concession prices are lower too and more reasonable than most multiplexes out there. This is an old theatre, so do not expect stadium seating. The restrooms are clean and remodeled. The workers do their best to keep their patrons as comfortable and happy as possible. This is a great place to watch that movie that came out a month ago, but you were too busy to watch. I enjoy coming here because it is affordable and comfy to spend a couple of hours at the movies in Pasadena.
Great prices on both tickets and popcorn especially when compared to other theaters. Loved the classic experience and will definitely go back
Great discount movie theater! Just wait a few days to weeks to see your movies that are out! Fantastic place to see movies with your kids. Often free parking within a block or so. Other option is a paid lot right behind building. Great selection and group discounts but similar to other movie theaters but great deals! We find ourself going here for date night as well as with our kids!
Im giving a four stars review because honestly this is the best pricing for a cinema Ive ever heard of ! They offer two movie tickets, two, popcorns and two drinks for ten dollars !How often do you come across an offer like that ?Every Wednesday evening after 6pm at Pasadena Academy Cinema !Okay, so you might have to wait a bit longer for that movie youve been wanting to see to come off the main circuit but its still worth the wait. Perhaps its not the most luxurious cinema youll ever sit in but, unless you and whoever you go there with are total primadonnas, its a fabulous deal at a decent enough theatre.w
Excellent service, really good people.
3 bux for a movie you really cant beat that. Dont have to worry about boujee people here. Wednesday has a good deal. And staff is always friendly gotta love that.
Its a cool little theater with great admission prices. I recommend getting the free rewards card if you do end up liking it there and plan to visit often.
Movie was great, not crowded and snacks were good!
Great place!! $2.50 before 6:00 p.m. & $3.00 after. You cant beat that. Then they have other deals & specials through out the week. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because the theater room is not as big as a regular theater. The screen is the same size & the seats are in great condition & the room is clean.
Great deal. Movies and concessions are reasonable prices. The seats are old and uncomfortable, but $2.50 for a matinee!
