Must do hike when you are in Palm Springs. If you hike it any time after mid March be sure to be on the trail by 6 am. Strenuous dessert mountain hike with no shade. The payoff is an incredible view
This is a FANTASTIC hike! When I started out on the Clara Burgess Trail I had no idea that I would end up on top of Murray Hill. The views from the top are spectacular. Someone actually put several picnic tables on the peak so be sure to bring a lunch!
Great view! Took us just under 4 hrs to get up and down.
Great trail and an excellent workout. Bring food and have a picnic at the top, as tables are located up top with tremendous views in all directions!
Awesome hike, beautiful views
I started my hike at Vons before dawn. The first part of the trail is a dirt road that takes you to the Burgess Access Trail and then the Clara Burgess Trail. The hike from Vons to the summit of Murray Hill is just over 3-1/2 miles and almost 1,900 feet of elevation. Im a relatively slow hiker, but made it to the summit in two hours. All of the trails are well maintained and youre never out of cellphone range, so you can use Google Maps to keep you on track. There are three picnic tables near the summit and a Geodetic Survey marker just below the highest point. On a hot day, cool air, steady breezes and terrific views are your reward at the summit.
This is the highest peak in the area. Start from the Garstin trail. Great views from the top and a good place to eat lunch.
Wonderful place to explore and great trail to walk
Views of the Coachella Valley. Moderate to strenous. Bring water 6-8 miler depending on starting route. Worth the sweat and workout.
I started at the Garsten Trailhead (just off Bogert Trail Rd), up to Murray Hill & looped back to Frank Bogert Trailhead (Andreas Hills Dr, below the water tanks), just under 8 miles & 3 hours (slight jog down to beat the sunset). While the route sounds confusing (Garsten to Wildhorse to Clara Burgess), the path/route is very clear. The best is Clara Burgess to the top, more isolated than neighboring trails & expansive views. Well worth the time & energy.
Moderate hike with no crowds
Awesome hike.
