My boyfriend and I had a great time here. We bought a Groupon and it was $30 for both of us to go in. We spent a little over an hour here. We had a fantastic time feeding the monkeys, and looking at the other reptiles, and birds. They have name plaques for each animal and little inserts to read about their species! All in all a fun time!

I enjoyed seeing the cages clean and well taken care of, some could have used a little maintenance. I loved you could buy monkey munch for them to snack on; you can see in my first picture they have little tunes you can put the (popcorn, pretzels, and peanuts) through. I think that the inclusion of information and the name tags was a great idea. For the most part, the volunteers/staff were great, some must have been new and they werent sure or confident in answering questions. All in all a great trip!

This is a very cool sanctuary! Definitely worth the time to visit. What they do here is amazing. All of their monkeys and other animals they have there are rescues that were in bad situations and got to come there where they are totally cared for and loved. Places like this need more recognition! Go check them out! just by going your helping them with financial cost that will help them make it even better. They also need more volunteers and donations.

Drove the four hours stayed overnight excited to have a magical visit & learn more about their sanctuary and their primates.Unfortunately because a volunteer told me in error I was allowed to take photos with my camera I was verbally assaulted and harassed during my brief visit by direction of Park Manager Debbie. She decided I was with PETA and an animal rights activists. Accused me of lying about my intentions to the extent of demanding me to provide her a business card which we retrieved from the car promptly. (I work in real estate and photography is a passion of mine).I left feeling sad and embarrassed for Debbie as her behavior was awful. She truly believed I was there to photograph the animals and report back to PETA. After she ruined the experience for us we decided to leave. So sad Debbie. You have my email and are welcome to send your apologies. To the board: Debbie needs an intervention before she runs all those who choose to support off with her conspiracy theories!!!

Very sad place to go. Cement prison cells with plastic toys if some were lucky! I remember being so angry we would donate a penny to such a misguided sanctuary. I remember one caretaker throwing peanuts at the poor orangutan in a depressing cement cell trying to get it to move or something. Then a small baby monkey locked in a bird cage had wrapped a blanket around itself and was rocking back and forth. Truly broke my heart that places like this are allowed to keep animals for a tourist attraction. They have no natural environment or any privacy just forced into the spotlight in small cages.

This place does really good work. Their animals are treated like family members of the caretakers. The caretakers really seem to love what they do and love the animals. It is a small, family run type of place. Theyre a great place to donate different types of food, or toys to. The monkeys and apes seem to tear through toys regularly, so if you have some sort of durable toys, im sure theyd be happy to take them. We learned a lot from our trips here and have gotten to hold various types of animals like monkeys, alligators, and snakes. We take family and friends here whenever we have guests from out of town. Also, check Groupon. They usually have specials.

We are very disappointed with the volunteers of this place. My family is tight on money due to the coronavirus but we figured that the sanctuary would have been low on donations for the past couple of months as well. Knowing this, my two kids and I put our money together and purchased $130 worth of fruits ( one big box of apples, two boxes of blackberries and five big boxes of strawberries which each contained a dozen individual packs) that we got them from warehouse in Tampa would go to the animals at the sanctuary. We showed up a little bit past their normal closing time just to drop off the fruit we had just purchased but there were a few staff members still standing by the front. After helping us unload the fruit, they explained that we could walk around and check the place out real quick if we wanted to.Within a couple minutes of entering the sanctuary, I spotted one of the volunteers eating some of the strawberries that we had donated FOR THE ANIMALS. When she realized I had seen her, she said “I have to try this out before we give them to the monkeys” while having a grin and strawberries in her mouth. A few moments later, I see the volunteer that had helped unload the car earlier walk by and say “mmmm these were good” as he held a pack of strawberries. The boy proceeded to walk to a few cages and hand out one or two strawberries per monkey even though there was plenty for all the animals in the park to have more than a couple. The volunteer’s only remark was that “the monkeys had just eaten”. The last incident is on our way out of the park where I saw another young girl volunteer walking around with a full pack of strawberries in her hand and we did not see her disperse any to the animals in the sanctuary. It seemed as if she was going to take the pack of strawberries home with her.We told them those fruits we donated was for the animals.I hope these volunteers are the minority and don’t represent the whole sanctuary staff as a whole. My son and I were disappointed and saddened to see the faces of the monkeys as we strolled through the park. We can only hope that our donations get to the animals as intended.I DO NOT want people to stop donating because the only victims would be the animals in the sanctuary. My intent is for the staff members to understand these donations whether it is monetary or items are NOT for the staff but for the animals. The staff members can go home after their shift and eat whatever they want but the animals cannot. The animals are relying on the staff members to feed them and protect them.

Dont get me wrong, the animals are well cared for but the place is a dump. If I were financially able, I would raze the entire place and rebuild it. This is the second time I took my granddaughter to the sanctuary. We brought a little jar of peanut butter and paid our $25. I was sad to see the condition of the cages. They need so much, and I don’t think enough people are aware. The animals weren’t all out as it was a cool day. I really missed seeing Pongo. He was hiding in the back. This Sanctuary takes animals that are older that other locations like zoos no longer want. In that aspect I have respect for it. However after going there and taking a walk around, I am a little saddened by the conditions. Maybe they need more funding or more patrons to go so that they can improve the sanctuary more. Sometimes I felt like I was looking at an abandoned area with junk in the yard. The cages had old childrens toys as items to climb on and play with. I like the idea of recycling but it just seemed like the park was very poor. Im giving it three stars because I like how the people that work there are all volunteers. All the money that goes towards this place goes towards the animals.

I can how this started out with good intentions but the facility is run down and outdated. Wish that among the few signs they had that they included rescue stories. Saw many animals either pacing or displaying kinds of repetitive walking/swinging behavior, which is an indication of neurosis - many looked sad and my whole group was concerned. The enclosures are too small and dirty. I understand they were rescued from poor situations but that shouldn’t be an excuse for allowing these conditionsLeaves me thinking there must be a better place for these animals to live

2 stars for what they are doing, rescuing animals? But maybe they need to include signs & stories about what the animals came from to understand that they’re in a better place?? I was really disappointed with this place. First I tried to use the groupon and it wouldnt go through. So when we got to the desk and asked the lady could she honor the price and I showed her on my phone what the price was and she snappily said they had nothing to do with groupon, or the prices posted. I shrugged it off, maybe she was having a bad day. We paid the price and went in, even bought a bag of food for the animals. BIG MISTAKE You would have to have the arm of a professional pitcher to get that food into the cages. The grounds were deplorable, the random birds flying around ate the food that landed all over the ground, the large apes were sad looking, the alligator enclosure was cramped and I couldnt even tell if it was supposed to be anything in a couple of the cages. I felt so bad about how it looked I video chatted it to a friend. Save your money. Go to the aquarium.

Its wonderful these beautiful souls have been rescued and are free now from abuse and neglect. Still so sad to see them with plastic toys meant for humans in their cages. Id think providing things similar to those that theyd find in nature would be much better. Also, it was disappointing that the only snacks for sale ($1/snack bag) were comprised of artificially colored cheese doodles, bleached white flour animal crackers and pretzel sticks. Most cages had a pile of this junk food already inside so when you offered more they ignored it. I dont blame them. I would not want to eat that stuff all day from visitors either. I would have expected fresh fruit maybe, nuts and leaves etc...something natural, something healthier. But yes I understand that this is a humble non profit venture so perhaps healthy snacks may be cost prohibitive? P.S. Id have gladly paid $5 for a snack bag of healthy fruits, nuts or whatever was appropriate that theyd enjoy that wasnt simply human junk food. I have a (hopefully helpful) suggestion to offer about the snack issue if anyone at the Sanctuary is interested...

They also brought clementine (their ball python out for guest and my son to hold. Tito was my absolute favorite, he had a personality out of this world along with a few others. We cant wait to go back for sure. Thanks to all those that help these animals! And a little note to those complaining about the cages and grounds you are more than welcome to donate money or simply your time to help . They arent a zoo making 1000s of dollars a day they are a humble place that truly care for these animals. After talking to workers I found that several of the monkeys were diabetic and from a horrible testing facility so Im sure they are 100% happier ( I was sad at first we couldnt feed this pair and then realized it was due to keeping them healthy because some of the treats would not be good for a diabetic) so before you make assumptions talk to someone and maybe then you can see how much better life must be for these babies.
