Quiet, peaceful shoreline walking trails excellent for birders. Always visitors photographing birds. Met a birder photographing migrating Ruby Throated Hummingbirds near entrance to preserve where they have gardens that attract these beautiful birds. Never disappointing.

The opportunity to walk through one of the few salt marshes left on Long Island makes the Oceanside Marine Nature Study Area a must visit. The diversity of marine birds, including a pair of nesting ospreys is tremendous. I have seen dozens of different species, including an Osprey flying back to feed its fledglings with a whole flounder in its talons. The Study Area is particularly beautiful during the changing of the tides when the mud flats are exposed and bay is either filling or emptying its basin. The only downside is that the Study Area is not open Sundays and its limited hours.

Alot of birds to look at. You really get to appreciate the marsh land ecosystem on longisland. Staff is super knowledgeable. Just remember to be quiet around the bird photographers/ watchers so you dont care the birds off.

Great little area to walk around and see how our native wetlands should look when allowed to thrive. Conveniently located in between a golf course, old landfill, and residential area :(So grateful for what the folks at the MNSA do for our environment and for the education of our community!!

The Nature Study is Beautiful! Not very big, but pristine wetlands in the midst of Suburbia. A wide variety of species if U look around. Highly recommended for a nature stroll and a beautiful afternoon. 1 hour to 90 minute visit is what U need.

First time here. Looks nice so far. Entry is free. They have a small parking lot (maybe 12 cars).RestroomsPicnic tablesBicycle rackMore to come ...Been here less than 15 minutes and so far weve seen a green heron (1) and several white heron / egrets (about 15 or so).Seems like a quiet / peaceful place. Great to come for a relaxing walk. (Not a good place for running or cycling.)Nice place to spend an hour. Maybe 90 minutes. Thats about it. It isnt huge.It is nice. The trails are very peaceful. The marsh is teaming with life! Shorebirds. Clams and mussels. Killifish. It appears to be sandwiched between a golf course and landfill - so its fairly quiet. You do hear the occasional plane overhead (coming from JFK, I assume). If youre a photographer, be sure to bring your camera - with a telephoto lens if you have one.Enjoy! :-)
