Though when I pulled up I expected something more than what it was it was very well maintained you can go up the 2 towers and look around but beyond that theres no educational plaques to explain what you are looking at and where you are. But it is a very nice area to stretch your legs and let kids run in the field.

This place is really good and fun to be at. They give you a good understanding of what happened and the demonstration they put on was realistic as it could be, but it was still cool. Inside of the fort was really interesting to see the clothing, animal skins, pottery, and kitchens they had in the fort. Going up into the watch tower, also gave a great view and how they seen when people tried to attack back then.

My kids and I love history. So when we were down in Ocala visiting family. I took the opportunity to take them here, and teach them a little bit about the Seminole tribe. My kids really enjoyed getting to see the history, and hear some of the stories I told them about Fort King. Best part is that its completely free.

This place is great! It has no admission fee. When we first walked in, I thought, “there’s not much in here.” Then the tour guides (a husband and wife duo) started walking us around and Giving us more detail. They truly MAKE this place just as much as the history! You can tell they have a passion for it and are excited to share. They also told us that there is going to be more additions to the complex, making it more historically accurate to what was in the fort. They do a battle re-enactment every December as well. Make sure you give yourself an hour or two and even more if you want to walk the surrounding trail.

I was thrilled to be at an actual fort which is in the middle of the city and grateful they preserved it. I didnt get to go inside the museum adjacent to it, but I enjoyed walking the grounds and explaining to my daughter a bit of how soldiers used the fort. She even added her own views, and it was an interesting discussion.I wish we couldve been taught more by a park ranger, though. We went during open hours (at 5 PM), but there was no one in sight and the museum was closed.

Another forgotten hidden jewel. If you are a history fan, this is a stop you need to make. This is a historic work in progress. Last time I went they had the main fort walls constructed. There are plans for the garrison and the rest of the fort. I enjoy the reenactments and the living history of visiting the blacksmiths, weavers, and other hand crafts exhibited at the museum. This is not available all the time, yet. Check their schedule for current events.

We always like to explore different places and came across a sign for Fort King...decided to give it a try. No fort that we could see but there was a house there so we decided to see whats what. There was a trail map in the door so we took that planning on just walking around. As we were leaving the door opened and Bill R. Invited us in... He is the Fort King Resourse and program coordinator. Very very knowledgeable of the area. The fort will be at the site next year...they have already cleared a very nice walking trail..saw an owl in the tree..magnificent! Its worth just a poke around if you are in the area! Theres lots of artifacts and history galore at the site. Cant wait to see it when its done. Fort King was the furthest inland fort in Florida! They will be recreating the original fort in its exact location! Thanks Bill, you were fun to talk too!!!

Great place for a history lesson. Parking is scarce though. During events, you have to park about 1/4 mile down the street and either walk to the park from there or wait for the incredibly slow shuttle. The events there are cheap or free though so I cant complain too much. The rebuilt fort is pretty cool.

My wife, I and our service dog saw the Historical sign and swung in. Whats to see ..right? A monument and tablet? Hardly. Two older gentlemen (Im 64) proceeded to take us through the artifacts. We sat through an informative 12-13 minute movie. We were then guided to the springs that the Fort utilized for water. Think about it. In the 1830s Chief Micanopy(yes..as in the town) surprised and killed the entire Garrison.Fort King is an ongoing archeological dig. Funds are as slow. Theres a good start however. My wife and I walked away happier, and better educated about Ocala history, than when we arrived. If you love history of America, Florida and Ocala, this is a must see.
